" I have heard about Lin Chi, a Zen master. As he was sitting one day in his hut someone came to see him. The man who came was angry. He may have been fighting with his wife or with his boss or something - but he was angry. He pushed open the door in anger, he threw down his shoes in anger and then he came, very respectfully, and bowed down to Lin Chi. Lin Chi said, “First go and ask forgiveness from the door and from the shoes.” The man must have looked at Lin Chi very strangely. There were other people also sitting there and they started laughing. Lin Chi said, “Stop!” and then said to the man, “If you don’t do it then leave. I will have nothing to do with you.” The man said, “It will look crazy to ask forgiveness from the shoes and from the door.” Lin Chi said, “It was not crazy when you expressed anger. Will it now be crazy? Everything has a consciousness. So you go, and unless the door forgives you, I am not going to allow you in.” The man felt awkward but he had to go. Later on he became a monk himself and became enlightened. When he became enlightened, he related the whole anecdote and he said, “When I stood before the door, asking forgiveness, I felt awkward, foolish. But then I thought that if Lin Chi says so, there must be something in it. I trusted Lin Chi, so I thought that even if it was foolish do it. In the beginning whatsoever I was saying to the door was just superficial, artificial; but by and by I started to get warm. And Lin Chi was waiting and he said that he would watch. If the door forgave me, only then could I come in; otherwise I had to stay there until I had persuaded the door and the shoes to forgive me. By and by I became warm. I forgot that many people were looking. I forgot about Lin Chi - and then the concern became sincere and real. I started to feel the door and the shoes were changing their mood. And the moment I realized that the door and the shoes had changed and that they are feeling happy, Lin Chi immediately said that I could come. I had been forgiven.” This incident became a transforming phenomenon in his life because for the first time he became aware that everything is really a crystallization of consciousness. If you cannot see it, it is because you are blind. If you cannot hear it, it is because you are deaf. There is nothing the matter with the things around you. Everything is condensed consciousness. The problem is with you - you are not open and sensitive. This technique says, this consciousness exists as each being, and nothing else exists. Live with this notion. Be sensitive to this and wherever you move, move with this mind and this heart - that everything is consciousness and nothing else exists. Sooner or later, the world will change its face. Sooner or later, objects disappear and persons start appearing everywhere. Sooner or later, the whole world will be suddenly illumined and you will know that you were living in a world of dead things just because of your insensitivity. Otherwise everything is alive - not only alive, everything is conscious. Everything deep down is nothing but consciousness. But if you leave it as a theory, if you believe in it as a theory, then nothing will happen. You will have to make it a way of life a style of life - behaving as if everything is conscious. One of the best and most clarifying explanations I have heard. With this I finally understand why Christ could say 'forgive them for they know not what they do'. Even when King Lear is so divorced from John Smith, that killing John Smith becomes 'holy to him - John 16:2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God - even behind all that, John Smith is still present in the other - but, on a spectrum, as far divorced from Self/King Lear, that killing John Smith appears Right / to 'lead to life /to lead to some type of righteousness / fulfilment ' for King Lear.
In fact ,your eyes project your understanding and perceptions into your previous projections. Receiving back only the understanding of self they are looking for. All is as you see it. You,your eyes, are one with what you’re seeing.

I can only intuitively understand nonduality. I know it exists. Maybe it's too profound for most of us. ❤❤❤
As a teacher of Spinoza and Gurdjieff works, that courage, enlightenment, and freedom from pain and suffering are possible when we understand the laws that influence our nature.
@@MichaelDamianPHD Michael, a PHD implies that you are accredited, educated in a agreeable format. If you haven't studied and understood Spinoza's Ethics, you'll never really understand the laws that influence and directs human nature. You erroneous believe in free will, as well as over 8billion people. Pain in a feeling of powerlessness, helplessness, and knowing what to do with our fear, being rejected, a loss, or a failure. We suffer because we are stuck with old confused thinking. It's possible with the aid of a journal, a pen and begin to factualize the events that trigger your emotions, pain and suffering will stop. This is not a permanent thing, this effort must be applied to every situation that causes us pain. Pain, in reality is not knowing how to deal with the problem before us.
@@MichaelDamianPHD It's obvious you do not understand the nature of man, even though you have a PHD. PHD means that you follow a teaching model that is limited with boundaries of beliefs and traditional thinking. If you read and understood Spinoza's Ethics, you will be able to grasp the reality of what I am communicating. Pain implies that our desire is not met or satisfied. Example: you are meeting a friend at a coffee shop, she never shows up. You will automatically fee pain. Pain is a feeling of powerlessness, helplessness, and the belief in free will. Freedom is when we understand the laws of our emotions.
Speaking in religious terms, what is understood by enlightenment or achieving that PEACE and HAPPINESS is a GRACE that is given to us not in a mechanical way after practices, meditations, prayers and desires to achieve it, but I would almost say "miraculously" from above (UNIVERSAL CONSCIOUSNESS). That is why only some people, usually mystics and some people from the East, have achieved that GRACE. The rest of us human beings have to continue to desire it and investigate it and be lucky enough to receive that GRACE at some point in our existence.
Thank you very much for this interviev. It's clearing up so many aspekts of lives... in a tender way to speak of. The way Rupert Spira sets a different focos on ouer behavier gives me a very hopeful inner picture... This is such a good explanation of Non Duality, and what it offers to us, even in the context of actively living. Thank you! And for mental health practitioners, The Clearing Process approach is as described here - dealing with thoughts and feelings, not by changing them, but they go in deeply into them, ultimately opening into the nature of what life really is
Everything is your understanding alone. All that’s in your world is your definition of what and who they are. You don’t deal with mass, you deal with your thoughts alone, and what you think of them. Everyone’s looking is lost, because they seek the answers to questioning of themselves.
Niall, thank you so SO much for this interview. It was enchanting, i didn't knew Rupert Spira work. I found him fascinating. Weekend Uni (always) have amazing guests! Thank you so much for sharing this incredible content with us. Much love from Portugal
Really good interview Niall, thank you. Clear, concise and very helpful. I've been an avid follower of Rupert for quite some time and, as a psychotherapist who's been trying to integrate psychotherapy with the Direct Path for years, I particularly appreciated your question which gave rise to Steve Hayes' concept of Psychological Flexibility; how we relate to our experience, thoughts and feelings rather than being entangled with them...which as Rupert says, is a half way point on our way back to remembering who we are.
The "turning around" Rupert references in relation to the story of the prodigal son: In the scripture, it said, "He came to himself"! It was when he remembered who he is that everything shifted for him.
So we can still enjoy outer relationship, experience, substance etc for enjoyment sake as long as we don't think they will give us lasting happiness. I think I got that right? ❤
Is the happiness you seek inside the understanding of who you are,the God you searched the world over was you yourself . I hear your happiness as contentment in knowing yourself the source of all that is. Proving your consciousness of what is,makes it. Thinking there’s no hope can’t mustard any,and finding yourself that hope, makes what wasn’t a world of hope. All is one,in the understanding of yourself as it. Duality is one without difference, you without the measure of another.
I greatly appreciate the discussion of motivations. I was pondering this for the past couple of weeks. Now I understand the motivation has shifted away from quelling the suffering in pursuit of happiness outside of self. Wow! Thank you!
We have to transcend duality, both good and bad; to a state of non-attachment and non-aversion. Attachment and aversion are the bete noires; the dual modes, that take us out of our inner state of conscious awareness, unity, and peace. The outer world is substance, ideas exist in our minds, so our interaction with the environment is a play of ideas on substance. Consciousness is within and without, mind is the intermediary that connects the inner and the outer.
Once conscious, one can never return to the unconscious state. Waking up does not equate to becoming conscious. There truly is no comparison. However, one must become aware in order to realize that more is possible. Rupert Spira found consciousness via Eastern Spirituality. The West's version is very different - it's through psychoanalysis. Yes, Rupert understands the Western approach. I had to reconstruct the Psychoanalytic process to suit my needs. If Rupert took 20 years, I would suggest that it took me 10 years after realizing where my psychological issues began. I'd enjoy meeting and comparing notes with him, because he we definitely speak the same language.
I love this! Thank you for sharing! What if someone has self-harming tendencies/habits (as most people today, if not almost all do)? Don’t we have to address this as well? Knowing we are all one doesn’t change this.
The reality is that all humans do not know real love! They only have a fantasy of what love is. Furthermore, all parents do not love their children. This fact is typically where most people's problems originate!
I suffer from unbearable accesses in my ear canals, leaning into the pain psychologically does help, it does require a lot of focus and attention which is limited. I can do it but maintaining that state for a long period of time is difficult.
How can there be a reality independent of minds, when all is one. That would feed every thought we can’t be one without it. Every idea and plan is doomed,in its path in the midst of all it doubted in the making of the plan. A separation of one, because every path is yours to you. Awareness makes you feel better a in knowing, and doesn’t need your proving in your doubt ,in your mind.

If everyone is firmly established in his Self there should be no creation of our type at all. There will be no need for it to exist in our kind of world.
Very good, But I would add that "everything we know" is perceived through the functions of consciousness, thinking, feeling, sensing, and intuition, and the modes of perception, which are perception itself and judgement, aka discriminating consciousness. The modes of perception are at first like wearing orange ski goggles. We think what we are perceiving is "what is". The modes of perception are clouded and distorted by the wounds, complexes, and repressed instincts, emotions, and feelings, of the subtle body-mind. This distortion is further obscured by the false identifications of the ego. The ego goes through hell as it develops in life. We are told by a teacher or by abusive parents that we are "worthless" and the young developing ego identifies with being "worthless" and "unlovable". Nature/Being gave us a natural process called "spiritual awakening" and this process first purges and purifies the modes of perception and clears and heals the subtle body of the wounds, repressed energies, complexes, false identities, and etc. This process brings one from being a contracted, wounded, separate self sense ego to a unified Cosmic Soul Being. This is the first realization/actualization. Then the Soul discovers its non dual Oneness with Being itself. This does not negate the unique such-ness and Individuality of the Soul Person but enhances it and integrates it with Being Itself. One cannot bypass the painful Soul work. It is built into the fabric of our psyches and Reality itself. Non-dual does not negate Individuals, it heals them, expands them, and integrates them into the Wholeness of Being Itself. Until one achieves Soul Realization, which takes lifetimes, one cannot even begin to grasp non duality. But this teacher Rupert explains it very well and with clarity. Excellent!
I want to confirm what you are saying here. Unfortunately, for centuries, the egoic self has taken such a bad rap . And too much spirituality is about the "spiritual bypass" or "Peter Pan" spirituality. Thank you for recognizing that the ego goes through hell and that soul healing is a necessary process on the path. Over the years, I have found that being a "horse whisperer" to my own wounded psyche has helped me relax enough to experience non-dual states.

What a wonderfully rich interview. Thank you, Niall and Rupert, for sharing your insights into the nature of true Self. 🙏🏻
This is a profound revelation and clarity I so needed to hear presently. Thank you Rupert.
I can do it... together yes, we can do it ... save this Planet ...the only home we have. ❤This beautiful home❤
ACT is amazing and blends well with Rupert's thoughts and analogies!
This is such a good explanation of Non Duality, and what it offers to us, even in the context of actively living. Thank you!
And for mental health practitioners, The Clearing Process approach is as described here - dealing with thoughts and feelings, not by changing them, but they go in deeply into them, ultimately opening into the nature of what life really is
Very good explanation of self awareness
I have just found this. What a joy this interview was. Thankyou both. Love, peace and blessings to you both.❤🌈
Brilliant conversation. Thank you for this.
What a great, intelligent interview.
Just a lovely conversation. Thank you both for it.
Fantastic meeting of two great speakers..potentially life-changing stuff... Super!!!!!
Everything is your understanding alone. All that’s in your world is your definition of what and who they are. You don’t deal with mass, you deal with your thoughts alone, and what you think of them. Everyone’s looking is lost, because they seek the answers to questioning of themselves.
Great questions and dialogue with Rupert!
Great interview and brilliant questions. Thank you .
Literally beyond words
Niall, thank you so SO much for this interview. It was enchanting, i didn't knew Rupert Spira work. I found him fascinating. Weekend Uni (always) have amazing guests! Thank you so much for sharing this incredible content with us. Much love from Portugal
Rupert is lovely. I’m glad you found him.
Im finally starting to understand him.
It' is quite simple!
Thank you
You never studied Hindu pagan philosophy . He is new prophet of Hindu pagan philosophy
Simple explanation of non duality ✅
Beautiful exploration 🌻 thank you for a lovely early 🌄
Fantastic. Thank you so much. ❤️
Really really lovely 🥰! Thank you for this beautiful conversation! ❤
Thank you for speaking of this subject. Very interesting.
Thank you! I will suggest that you put this conversation in chapters.
You yourself are an object to you,in the unknowing who you are.
Another wonderful conversation. I have ordered the book 'You Are The Happiness You Seek'. Thank you.
Thank you both.
Wonderful interview ❤
Excellent discussion here!!!👍❤️
Thank you very much....Rupert sir & team
I greatly appreciate the discussion of motivations. I was pondering this for the past couple of weeks.
Now I understand the motivation has shifted away from quelling the suffering in pursuit of happiness outside of self. Wow! Thank you!
Love It!❤ Thanks for sharing with us!!
Thank you for reminding me of my true nature
Love to hear Rupert, love this view, and really love this guy Niall's accent! I want to talk like that!
very well done thank you!
Talk about what you love
Hear about what you escape
We have to transcend duality, both good and bad; to a state of non-attachment and non-aversion. Attachment and aversion are the bete noires; the dual modes, that take us out of our inner state of conscious awareness, unity, and peace.
The outer world is substance, ideas exist in our minds, so our interaction with the environment is a play of ideas on substance. Consciousness is within and without, mind is the intermediary that connects the inner and the outer.
Waking up might be not the real issue... Not falling asleep again is the real challenge
This was excellent!! I request interviewing Satpal Singh of the Nanak Naam channel on nonduality and spirituality
The Virtuous Noble Lie of Love and the Trap of the Ocult Agreement of Consent
Truth pure, untainted.
Asking for why,s is disrepectul for God yet it is only possible to ask the how,s. Love u and your program...thanks.
I meant "propories ..such as peacefullness. Thx.
1:30 non duality is not an experience but a Stable Disposition.
Wonderful duscussion, tank you!Ruth/Video person-
Light Grey makes Rupert look like he is quite ill & v elderly.!
Excellent!
I am God, and so are you. Where will we meet, i'll see through you.
53:56 well done, good interview!
Hahaha now i finally understand the saying of rose tinted glases. 😆
The indescribable unity.
May be i finely got it : that passive medium can generate /produce peacefull because it is free from all content ... included "negative" one... ok . Thx !!!
All materials and materials are manifestation of absolute consciousness /reality so their
Hi Niall, I here ur accent I feel like ur from Belfast or near to that. I have been on this journey for some time now and I get some glimpses here and there. I'm really starting to understand things at an intellectual levels. I'm on you tube alot seeking. I'm just wondering is there anyone you woukd recommend from our side of the world to help guide me on this path.
Thank you for this video. I look forward to watching more. ❤
Hi. I listen to a lot of your amazing videos.. i think i start to understand /feel the idea . Thx. A question if i may : returning back "home" ...felling peacefull... - what is the content of that peacefull ? What is it "made" of ? Surly the Form of happiness/peacefullnes does not come with happyness nor peacefullness .because its only a form of.. Rather, one needs content of happyness/peacefullness... thank you a lot .
Not sure what UA-cam is up to but I can't see a way to save this video to watch later. No problem with other videos.
Ignore that - the facility has magically returned! :-)
Copy the link where you can share it
@@ruthcrites I'm sorry, I don't quite understand your response. On my laptop, YT's screen was doing some odd changing about in size for a while and at one point the 3 little dots at the top right, under the video, had disappeared. But that seems to have stopped happening now and the 3 dots are back. Click on those, then 'Save' and 'Watch later'. I don't know anything about sharing it., but the 'Share' tab is next along, to the left of the 3 dots. Hope that helps! :-)

Dear Roberto, what do you mean?
Why doesn't he provide proof for the vedas from which his ideas are derived? Since what he has to say contradicts universal human experience the only authority they have is derived from those texts.
Yes. Vedanta/ Upanishads/ Bhagavad Gita _ Advaita Vedanta of Indian Philosophy has answer for everything.
If Lear discovered he was John Smith, how would that have effected the complicated and difficult problems he had with his daughters and his kingdom?
Jordan Peterson and Rupert Spira shoukd do an episode together.
