    Perry from the Templars here. I’ve got a dark postpunk/deathrock band going here in LA calked Before Dawn. We’ve also got 3 ex members of Clit 45 and a current member of Rubella Ballet in our ranks. We’re about to record an ep and I can send you the tracks once it’s done if you’re interested. Great job on this video btw. I dig quite a few of these bands.

      Hey what's up man, I love The Templars! I covered you guys a bit in my "Origins Of Street Punk" video! I'd love to check out your new stuff, that would be amazing. If you're interested in being on the podcast, I'd love to have you on, too. Shoot me an email and we can at least link up that way.

      I'm really glad you saw this video, I'm working on a follow-up with like 8 more bands. I'm aslo flying out to Pittsburgh next weekend to see Syndrome81, The Slads, No-Time, and Sikm. Pretty excited, gonna film it all for the channel. Also, Clit45 ruled, glad those fellas are still making music. This comment made my day man, I feel super grateful for all the exposure this video has gotten the channel

      What's up. Todd from Fresno Ca . Cool video, better than what I could do , aside from the me tion about skinhead testosterone or something while showing a picture of jello Biafra. Anyways, with French Oi! , you have to able to get past the politics to enjoy some of the music, Evil Skins and Brutal Combat are absolute must listens when it comes to French skinhead scene. I personally don't give a shit about politics, I'm mixed race and RAC has too many great bands to be ignored, ymmv. By the way both those bands emphasize heavy on the Sax, they pretty much invented that sound into French Oi!
      I love Litege , seen Rixe, Lions Law and Claimed Choice. Camera Silens , Snix, Tolbiacs Toads, RAS, Skinkorps, Brutal Combat, Evil Skins, Komintern Sect, West Side Boys, Hais & Fiers, Chauvis Pourris, Choc Frontal, L'infanterie Sauvage, are my favorite French bands. Honorable mentions to the scenes in Catalonia and Spain proper. There's so much great skinhead music out there.

    • @nicsmith3039
      @nicsmith3039 5 місяців тому +4

      @@thepunkrockreview Yeah, the Basque Country (mostly the Spanish side) has a great punk and postpunk scene. The podcast/radio show I listen to is hosted by two members from different bands, but they mostly just talk in Basque and sometimes play music. One guy's band has 1-2 french musicians in it and has a french name, so I guess that's how he was more familiar with Cold Oi!
      In general, for getting into Basque punk from the 80's there's Kortatu, La Polla Records, Eskorbuto, Hertzainak and Cicatriz.
      Oi! was really big there from like 2014-2020, with Kaleko Urdangak and Streetwise maybe being the two best examples.
      Nowadays, Vulk, Tatxers, TOC, Nakar, txopet, and EZEZEZ are maybe the top bands of the postpunk scene, although they're all very different. Borla is also worth a mention.

I will Be making a follow-up to this and I will try and add some clips that are longer and see how it goes. Excellent documentary, full of great bands. However, why no mention of Claimed Choice? One of the best French Oi! bands around. I also suggest a similar video on the bands from Spain, which has an equally good scene. For Spanish bands check out: Blessure, Hexen (all girl Oi!), Orrega 778, Labana (two bands called Labana so be careful), Feline. The German scene was always the best for Oi!, of course. One of the most influential bands, I would suggest, are EA80, who have nailed that punk/Goth sound since 1979. They are still going and produce excellent music. Well worth a listen if you like this cold Oi! stuff (although they are not an Oi! band).

    I grew up loving Blitz, from "Razors in the Night" to "New Age". I drifted from Punk to Goth to Crusty during my teens / early twenties. I kinda watched this, prepared to scoff and have come away with a new genre fixation. Nice up the dance, 161 1312.

  • @metamorphicblood
    @metamorphicblood 5 місяців тому +1

    Blitz eventually split into two bands with the same name, and I like what both did after that, one being darker punk and the other being kind of gothy post-punk synth rock.
    I’ve loved Paris Violence for many years now. Their blend of oi!, coldwave, and metal with industrial and baroque undertones is amazing. The main member (I think he’s keeping the project completely solo now) has called it “oi! wave”.
    This video has led me to some more really interesting bands to check into. It’s cool to see such bands creatively branching out since oi! traditionally hasn’t been known to experiment very much.

That said I've been burying my ears in anything you can imagine, I love death metal, thrash metal, anything old school hardcore, anything punk, a lot of RAC, glam, all kinds of 60's n 70's shit, reggae and skinhead reggae, I'm fucking sick of ska though ugh.. Texas Swing is my shit aahaaaa! Old school country, old school and some newer rap or hip hop but not much. I forgot what my fucking point was... Oh yes dark wave or goth shit. Yea, when I was still in HS I was not just a fat spikey haired drugged out punk but I also loved shit like Joy Division, New Order, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys, Oingo Boingo, Adam & the Ants etc. amazingly enough all while discovering the slew of European hardcore bands that were coming out from Finland and Germany, and while getting into this brand new California music called thrash metal with the release of the Metallica and Slayer demos , and back then I really loved Two Tone although except for Bad Manners( my personal favorite), I'm really sick of goddamn ska. I also love old shit like Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Life's too short to listen to one type of music in one language , singing about the same shit over and over, what a boring fucking life , but whatever Holmes . Once again I've lost my point. Almost sure that Paris Violence and Snix are not influences of those bands (which are generally antiracist, antifascits while Paris Violence and Snix were not clear or clearly far right). I guess French post-punk band Frustration have more influences on this French Cold Oi! than Paris Violence (Frustration is a post punk band à la Joy Division formed by musicians from punk scene in late 1990's). Camera Silens more probably, but I also guess Brigada Flores Magon and maybe those groups grow up listening Rancid and hardcore like Agnostic Front/Sick of it all in their teenage years (and maybe Burning Heads too, a melodic harcore bands that share drummer with Komintern Sect and Lion's Law). Also, many of the bands mentionned here share members, mainly with Lion's Law (Cran, Bromure, Rixe) or Syndrome 81 (Coupe Gorge, Litovsk)

For example Brutal Combat with that saxophone, how can anyone not love that music. And they were more anti communist, which is fine by me, than being more reactionary.
    premier concert de the BUSINESS suivi de DEATH IN JUNE.... incompréhension culturelle locale.
    Confusions et embrouilles en tout genre on finit par faire dérailler le projet.
    Direction vacances Leipzig pour trouver une écoute.... underground.
    C'est la vie.😊

    This sound has rejuvenated the oi sound. The last 10 years of oi have been boring.

    I am an old skinhead and I like some of these bands, especially Bromure and Squelette.
    Always loved the french sound in punk and oi!
    Everything from Collabos, Komintern Sect to Skinkorps, Herberts, Brutal Combat, L'infanterie Sauvage, Bunker 84, Legion 88, like it or not.
    I do not give shit if the PC mongos have a heart attack about it. Being a skinhead never was about sucking in to these piss-weak freaks.
    These new oi! bands here seem to be Sharps, which is really gay and unnecessary. Wasn't it called reality punk once? Have a look outside!
    Apart from that, let them be lefites, me being right-wing, I like the music and I admit it to everybody, unlike many in the new worldwide plastic oi! scene, established by booking agencies and other crap. Sad to see how many play along, bands and fans alike, so they can use the infrastructure.

      😂 What's wrong? Can't you stomach a simple comment after you called me a "boob"?
      Look, there is quite a screen and some distance between us, right? Relax, mate. Some words I do not like won't kill me or kill you. I just meant that you insulting me might come from that distance.
      Do not get it why everybody is so easily hurt nowadays, especially people who want to talk about punk music, skinheads etc. Times have changed indeed.
