Oh my Lord the Bass! His runs are frighteningly powerful! I was NOT prepared for the Alto's voice! What a powerhouse!! The choir! it's been a real while since I heard such clear and light voices at 5:30!!! The orchestra and the conductor were magnificent indeed!!!! I am duly pleased :)
I enjoy her mimics song expressions she s so on fire 🔥 and take me deep into the song only looking at her face expressions I understand the song of His glory who shall stand like refining fire her eyes tells all enjoying every second of it 🥺❤️
What a fabulous recording. The bass, the contralto and the boy's chorus: just perfect in rhythm, diction and balance. Hillary Summers is outstanding. Thanks.
A refiner's fire does not incinerate. It purifies. It melts down silver or gold, separates out and burns up the impurities. Hilary Summers, the Welsh diva, is like a refiner's fire. Who shall stand, when SHE appeareth! This passionate Welsh woman is in charge. Fantastic. NON PLUS ULTRA And Alastair Miles, 'the finest bass of his generation', is a special treat as well.
Undoubtedly the best rendition I have come across. Who is the female soloist? Her voice in the last few measures is harrowing. Brings chills each time. Peace.
@Immortal see, that’s not a good answer. Kirby, is wonderful, but not a contralto. That’s like someone saying “I love apples, which type is this?!” “An orange.”
I sang about an hour and a half of Handel's, "Messiah" last year in the Mission Valley Choral Society here in the Northwest part of Montana. I had two solos. And sang tenor with the chorus, in everything else. It was a MASSIVE undertaking.
But who may abide The day of His coming And who shall stand When He appeareth Who shall stand When He appeareth But who may abide But who may abide The day of this coming And who shall stand When he appeareth And who shall stand When he appeareth When he appeareth For He is like A refiner's fire For he is like A refiner's fire Who shall stand When He appeareth For he is like A refiner's fire For he is like A refiner's fire And who shall stand When He appeareth But who may abide The day of his coming And who shall stand And who shall stand When he appeareth When he appeareth For he is like A refiner's fire Like a refiner's fire And who shall stand when He When He appeareth And who shall stand When He appeareth For he is like A refiner's fire And who shall stand When He appeareth When He appeareth For he is like A refiner's fire For He is like A refiner's fire
I must be honest. I saw a clip of Hilary Summers singing this aria. And when I first saw the choir stand up after she was done, I thought that was their way of saying, "Yes honey. You better sing."
I personally prefer the bass to sing the aria, as it fits with the recitative. And because I'm a bass and I love to sing both back to back :) but this contralto's voice is probably the most perfect voice I have ever heard for this aria.
That last note- dark and chesty was exactly how she should’ve sung the entire piece. She was good but those last few bars and especially that late note stole the show.
I’m singing this at a performance tonight; also a mezzo and if you sing that chest resonant heavy too early it’s just impossible to sing and still jump up to the high notes when needed. That’s just how a mezzo has to sing it.
As beautiful as this music is, WE NEED TO HEED THOSE MOST POWERFUL, TERRIBLE, AND TRUTHFUL WORDS, Jesus Christ will be returning soon and who shall abide the day of His coming?? Malachi 3:1-6 kjv 1. Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. 2. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: 3. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. 4. Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years. 5. And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts. 6. For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Do you know, what she is doing now? I cannot find anything new from her :-( Her website is not updated since ca. 2 years, and it's so a pity, I would buy each and every recording of that art, it's the most beautiful performance of this aria I've ever heard. It would wish she makes recordings of all the famous oratorios :-) The Christmas Oratorio, the both Passions by Mr. Bach the Great, Eliah by Mendelssohn, etc. And some Bach Cantatas please. I don't see the need to compare these. Just come to this version from Emma's and wow I love this too! In a DIFFERENT way! It is possible to love more than one interpretation/voice range perform this you know 🙄
The best song from Messiah! My jam! Any day! Any time!
The way he drops that vibrato at the bottom of every "shake" so geometrically is stunning and compelling.
Hilary's last note, singing the word "fire" just gives me the most awesome goosebumps!
bonbonquest
Me too! Scary ! In a good way 😁
Everything is impressive here: the bass, the alto, the choir, music...
The whole performance is VERY impressive.
he is out of tune in the deep notes
@@jandamskier6510 I’m sure he’s aware of that. You can’t guarantee perfection in every performance no matter the amount of talent and rehearsal.
A true and wonderful contralto.
Most incredible voice that the contralto has. The low Ab at the end is so rich
James Walton so rich and scary ! Love it!! 😁
You wouldn't argue with her, with a voice like that!
I’m preaching this text Sunday and had to listen to this! Absolutely breathtaking performances by bass and contralto! I have goosebumps!
Oh my Lord the Bass! His runs are frighteningly powerful!

her voice is stunning and enchanting. gives an incredible atmosphere.
her last note where she sings "fire" is very powerful. gave me shivers.

Tremendous! Can't stop listening to this. I never grow tired of it. I just take breaks.
Melessa Lee me too!
I love the deep voice of the bass and alto. As they sing I imagine how is going to be on that day.
Ms Hillary Summers .. Fantastic voice and energy. You make the running notes so beautifully executed. Wonderful rendition. Thank you .
❤ The best version on UA-cam.
What a fabulous recording. The bass, the contralto and the boy's chorus: just perfect in rhythm, diction and balance. Hillary Summers is outstanding. Thanks.
J'adore le final d'Hillary Summers et le contraste avec les enfants de choeur !
Moi aussi!
Hillary Summers est fantastique !!!
Quelle voix!
Je l'adore!!!
What a extraordinary voice of contralto !!!
I'm not sure it gets much better than this. Sublime execution, musicianship, and seemingly effortless vocal technique. What a treat!
Agree with all the goosebumpers here, beautiful
Great, wonderful performance. And the text is very relevant.
How can I like this 10x

The bass is electrifying and rich.... Both singers sang splendidly. The choir was highly amazing. A piece beautifully sang... 👏👏👏

Amazing. Everything about this is amazing.
Splendido contralto. Brava
Una y otra vez...de lo mejor!!! Aunque esas voces ya hayan cambiado, han dejado una joya imperecedera. Gracias!!

oh my gosh YES!
Come on guys! don't be so harsh on the bass, he's awesome! love his rendition of "the trumpet shall sound"
Yeah, he is great! That would be Alastair Miles.
PURE PERFECTION.
What an extension !
Really good contralto! It really looks like a counter tenor!:D
I've NEVER heard these songs sung like this! I only know the Quincy Jones versions. Wow
and he shall purify
Un bass para la historia.

That would be 'hunny'😄
golden voice
Bloody wonderful!
When we put this on many years ago this one was done by the Bass. Contralto or bass is equally impressive
There's also a soprano version.
I personally prefer the bass to sing the aria, as it fits with the recitative. And because I'm a bass and I love to sing both back to back :) but this contralto's voice is probably the most perfect voice I have ever heard for this aria.

Hillary Summers’ technique is quite interesting. It sounds like she is singing all her notes in falsetto.

Incredible performance. Just wish they did not cut out from the singer to the still shot for refiners fire.
To Handel the "best of us" says Beethoven...

The best rendition of Handel's Messiah is by Trevor Pinnock. Once you come across it the rest seem messy.
The Devil does not, in point of fact, have the best tunes.
Pls give the name of the bassist
