This video is the perfect example why the dislike counter should be visible.
One of the dumbest things UA-cam did was getting rid of the dislike count. It used to save loads of time, especially when looking for a "how to" video.
15k dislike to 3.3k likes. You can turn it back on with an add on lol, and yes this is a perfect example of a crap idea getting ratio'd lol
Absolutely. Foolish to give this kind of ideas to people, which can and will result in damage.
I agree, it's very, very dangerous
@@chomp7927 for me it shows 18k to 3.5k, only 1 day later...
From someone who's spent thousands of hours using a mini grinder - when using sanding disks, they're generally backed by a mesh reinforced rubber disk with a leather or velcro surface to glue or velcro the sanding disk to. If you blow a sanding disk or pad at 13000rpm, it will flake some pieces off and give you plenty of time to stop the grinder and change the disks. At 13000, a compact disk will send glasslike shards all over the place and if someone's in the path, they're going to get hurt, or killed. This is one of the stupidest suggestions I've ever seen on YT. DO NOT attach anything to an angle grinder that wasn't specifically designed to be there. Seriously ppl... common sense will keep you alive and in one piece.
So, is this why it’s not patented? :-). Lol, this is one of the dumbest ideas I’ve seen!
what do will he do when he need a new sandpaper? using another CD?? not classified and tested devices! unsafe and not even cheap if you need always a new CD!
It's not common, that's the problem.
if one pays attention, the video tells you what your can n can't do safely.
My exact thoughts. A CD will disintegrate at that rpm. Don't find out the hard way people. A trip to the ER with 1/3 of a CD embedded in your face is not a good day
This video should be called: "How To Lose An Eye In Under 2 Seconds."
God damn right, why would any one resort to this method
One of my best friends spent Christmas in the hospital four years ago, due to an accident with an angle grinder with actual discs made for the job. Even those splinter, as his did, and in this case one of the shards tore through his femoral artery. Nine units of blood and plasma, an airlift to the hospital, a ton of good luck and the fighting spirit of a lunatic, as well as his steel physique since he's been in world class in martial arts decades ago all coincided to help him survive. Multiple surgeries and being declared a medical miracle, both he and I are VERY CAREFUL whenever using angle grinders these days.
This video is horrendously irresponsible. I'd highly suggest the creators of it take it down immediately, because there ARE a lot of beginner DIYers out there who don't fully understand how shockingly quick and violent accidents occur. I write this with my left thumb in a bandage after once such incident with the mitre saw two days ago, so it happens even to those of us with more sense than the creators of this video.
Please do not modify power tools. They are dangerous enough as they were first created!
My friend survived, though they had to take pieces of his left leg to piece together the ground meat that was left of his injured inner thigh. He's got a scar clear up to his chest, and will not be 100% again, though he does just fine at 95%. He was incredibly lucky. Others might not be.
A CD spinning at 12,000 RPM is dangerously scary. *No way should anyone try this*
I heard of CDs breaking apart in the player, and inside the grinder it is way easier to break that plastic and make it go weee in all directions. WHAT is wrong with people ?! 🤦🏼♂
came here just to say this...
now point a laser to it ---> high speed data access XD
like the others have said - I came here just to say this. Also, this video should be taken down on safety grounds.
C D's nuts!
In case of broken, only a small piece of the disc with the high speed, can damage not only you, also a person close to you. It is like a knife. Normal disc has a internal net that cover the full disc in order to not throw pieces.
Showing this use of a CD is 1. worthless because there are perfectly acceptable discs made to this purpose & 2. extremely dangerous. A small crack in the CD is all it takes to cause it to shatter and slice you. Yes, that can also happen with laminated grinding discs but they are much stronger and laminated to provide strength at the RPM's that your grinder is turning.
DO NOT TRY THIS STUPID SUGGESTION
@@StanCollins217 Hello. I don’t know if you are answering me or to the person who has made the video. Thanks.
@@StanCollins217 furthermore the disk is tighten in the center which will lead it to crack and especially when it's bending.
Usage of a disc in this manner is stupid on a higher level.
this is up there with taipods. this hack is literally life threatening. i had a disk blowing up in my cd writer. I had to replace most of my computer. shrapnel everywhere,
In Russia we call these suicide disc.
A simple paper disc can cut things when spinning fast enough. When you are using any rotary machines like an angle grinder You also need to ensure that you fit the guard to it. this way you will have the same number of fingers at the end that you started with.
That's funny. I took all the guards off of every single grinder I've ever owned and still have all my fingers after 25yrs of using grinders. if you know how to use your tools properly, you don't need the guards in place. besides that the guards limit how deep you can cut into things. sometimes you can't get different angles on what your cutting so guards just get in the way. use your tools properly and use proper safety gear and you shouldn't have to worry. yes, I've had disk blow apart but again, if your wearing proper safety gear no harm will come to you.
@@richardsalinetrojr1957 I hope that you have never used tools in this way commercially. The HSE would have a field day with you and instantly issue a probation notice to stop and if they found you doing again fine you, at worst you could end up in prison.

For added safety I suggest you keep a bowl of gasoline close by, especially when sanding metal as this will allow you to cool down any surfaces that get too hot thereby preventing a potential fire.
with 380 volts it will run faster.
😂😂😂
Also for safety, wear wet socks and hold exposed wires as your plugging them into a live socket, pro safety hack!
Does the bowl of gasoline have to be boiled before we cool it in the fridge?
Each dislike should negate a like
DANGER! DO'T DO IT! The CD has no fibers which would hold pieces if disc disintegrates. If disc cracks then large pieces will fly around at high speed and may seriously injure or kill somebody.

Bwahaha..! It could "kill" someone???
Yes it's a stupid idea, but you ignorant safety freaks are much more dangerous.
Had me audibly gasping at the end as i moved my face away from the screen, tangibly worried about getting shrapnel through the screen😂
After retiring as an engineer after fifty years I genuinely thought that I’d seen every outright boneheaded dangerous thing that someone could do or try. Guess I was wrong . . .
BTW do NOT try this, unless you like the idea of some time in A&E
there's a reason why grinding wheels are rated for rpms. when you use something not rated for the rpms it'll basically explode and shoot the pieces everywhere. if you've ever had this happen you learn the lesson real quick. also, an orbital sandal or palm sander would've done the same thing and there would be more surface area on the sander for sanding the project more evenly. honestly, this looks like it's asking for trouble imo.
Sort of true (mainly true). Cut off disks (which of course are rated) commonly explode. They are tough, but at 1mm thick, they don't have a lot of strength. So cutting things in weird angles, or if something moves and pinches the disk, or if you accidently twist, it goes bad. Even with a face shield, the chunks (which are small, not potentially large, spinning chunks of death) hurt a lot when they hit your chest and neck. This video should have made it clear that disks DO explode, and that this CD WILL explode, and without safety gear, it can (and probably will) cause serious injury. Sure, the disk was being used as a grinding disk (not a cut off disk), but that makes it even worse because grinding disks are really tough. They are thick and designed for sanding and grinding. Dumb idea, shown in the dumbest way.
I had to laugh in horror when he said "do not forget about safety" with no guard on the grinder, while using a disc not designed to go on it (which will shatter very easily). Very dangerous stuff.
On top of that, he attached the secrement ring upside down on the cd.
But he's wearing gardening gloves and dollar store sunglasses. What could possibly go wrong?
It’s a 5” cd. It won’t fit with the guard on
Its perfectly safe and the gasoline suggestion is brilliant. People should be free to experiment and the rest of us who do fabrication for a living should try not to laugh too loudly when we hear the screams.
Let's keep the experimentation going! Safety first, but creativity knows no bounds 🤯👍.
One day, I hope to make a sanding disc somehow more expensive.
Using the plastic disc (CD) is not safe, it was never designed to be used like this and will shatter with possibly catastrophic results! You could lose an eye, especially since you took the guard off it!
That's why I showed in the video that protection is necessary !
My brother died from a grinder wheel shattering. This is not a good idea. Those disc are not made for that. When any disc shatters. It can have results more devastating. Then the price of proper equipment.
Going back forty years now, but a man building a house up the road from my parents took the the guard off his grinder to fit an over size cut-off wheel. It shattered, a piece flew into his neck and severed his jugular vein - it was said he was probably dead before he hit the ground. I doubt many people copying this CD method would be wearing neck protection.
Why do something this insanely foolish? Buy the proper tools and be safe. But then again maybe tide pod eaters will try this!
Wearing gloves and eye protection would be important, *And Or A Face shield,* And a Good pair of leather work gloves.
I would want to blue too Glue 2 disk together before putting on the sandpaper. Thanks for sharing and for your concern

And there are all kinds of grinding and cutting and sanding and polishing discs out there! But hey he must be russian. Can tell by the cheap ass angle grinder.
Be careful with those discs. Commercial cutoff wheels sometime break and they hit very hard. If you've ever been hit with one you won't wear anything but a full face shield. Same with a wire brush. You can buy the flapper wheels (sanding discs) that aren't as apt to break. They're a lot cheaper than stitches and less painful.
Hate those wire brush things, not only do they sand skin on fingers and knuckles fast they spit needles of steel into you, face legs arms.... ouch (at least they're not poisonous tho lol) I'm an ex mechanic and metal worker and it still hurts!

Nice 👍🏻 if only they sold sanding discs for a grinder 🤦
Always, ALWAYS use the correct cutting or backing disc for the job. Anything less is stupidly dangerous and will get you well known at the ER. A metal cutting disc will blow up if you cut stone with it and vice versa.
Only because it doesn't work and when it starts burning u try to press it way too hard.
Discs for metal cuts wood just fine for example but it smells bad and burns, but the proper saw blades for cutting wood - now that shit is truly dangerous even tho its for wood.
In next week's episode of "It works until it doesn't" a parachute fabricated from your old bedsheets.
Don't glue sand paper to it. Unevenly distributed glue will can cause off balance spinning and the disc to explode in multiple direction at a high velocity.
dont worry he had SUNGLASSES on lols 🤣
That said, some cheapo value brand CD-Rs themselves are badly balanced from factory - ok to use for a backup written once and maybe read once again sometime in the future (while limiting the sped of the drive in software) - some might see those as the perfect candidate for crap like this - don't! Rather burn a low-res copy of the Darwin Awards movie for future reference (stupid ideas like this, wink wink) on one of them and use the rest of the "cake" as coasters, that's what they are really good for.

A true story folks...
wtf? you did that with Ride the Lightning? You should have tried Load first or something lol.
Theres always at least two ride the lightning cds
RIP to your face when that CD flies apart at high rpm
You can by the proper deal at hardware store, it is a rubber with a screw and the round sanding pads attach and this goes into a drill gun, great for body work etc.
Yea but u can't do chit with a drill. Now they make those pad holders for grinders too. The new swedish or finnish ones are really thin too, so no extra vibrations or anything and they are easy on the grinder.
Imagine that going straight into your eye or across your wrist! 😮
Did you use the report function to report this as 'dangerous or unsafe acts'? The more that report these types of videos, the faster they will be pulled down to prevent children from hurting themselves.
Right, children packing angle grinders.
I mean, come on, there are things that u instictively feel ain't right. That cd spinning ain't right, I bet even children get that.
I know from experience that spinning compact discs at high speeds can result in fragmentation of the disc, especially if disc is not perfectly centered. Be careful!
Just use Metallica or any heavy metal CD
Could you try 'defragging' the disk?
Nothing like shattered cd fragments going in your face
I hope noone dies doing this. I’ve had discs shatter in the drive, let alone under this kind of insane abuse.
🫣If you push the red button on top of the unit, while tightening the disk retaining nut, it stops the disk moving. It's also useful to loosen also.
You will end up with a section of cd embedded in you, however. Because no guard, and cd's are super brittle and shatter.
I just hope somebody watching your vids realises it's better to let you risk permanent injury as opposed to copying your eccentric risks .
You can be confident that this guy has never read an instruction manual for any tool he's used, nor worked with them. But, he's just generated 700k views and will be rewarded positively by UA-cam for his dangerous clickbait.
I was thinking the same thing about the lock. Just shows this idiot doesn't know and shouldn't be using power tools!!
@@m0rthausthis guy should be banned for this stupid video
Spindle lock.
I get a new grinder like every couple years and the first thing i do is I throw the guard, secondary handle and the key right out. Throw it all right out.
Yea and the manual too.
Its all a waste of time and precious space in the toolboxes.
It's all fun and games until that cd shatters and is sent flying at mock Jesus into your eyeball 😂
Pensé que cortarías la madera con el CD jajaja
Finally, a tool for cutting styrofoam
Wow he made a sanding disc out of 2 sanding discs!! Genius!!
Notice he can't put any pressure on the disc it will literally explode if he does
verry dangerous my friend these are things you don't put on UA-cam
Thanks for your comments! That's why I showed in the video that protection is necessary - AND the video was made for experimental purposes, not for permanent use
