Adam Sandler it is, I have no idea what hole you have been residing in for the past 10 years. Kino’s a good map, not a great map to me anymore, but everyone fucking knows that Kino is the most iconic map.
Kino popularized training
Kino was the first map where the pack a punch was in a seperate part of the map you cant just run to.
It did not force, but highly encouraged players to, run around rather than camp.
It brought us one of the best wonder weapons of all time.
On der riese the best room to train in (the thompson/furnace room) has a door that must be kept closed in order for it to be a viable training spot but der riese gets a pass for that but kino doesn't.
The crossbow and ballistic knife make the co-op experience especially unique.
Kino introduced the fire sale.
People say kino didn't innovate, i beg to differ.
This is not really innovation on the part of the map but innovative on the part of the player
It's not overrated, i just think it's the map everyone has a soft spot for, even if it's not the greatest

People hold kino high regards because its a fun simple map that passes time without having to do alot. You get yourself set up, and train around the stage. Its easy but still has challenge, and its pleasing to look at as it has some color and cool backgrounds. Sometimes playing for an hour or so before work is fun, and kino does that

Kino is overrated because all of our broke asses didn't have money to buy dlc maps.
Kino der Toten is amazing, definitely not overrated.
It has a great and interesting atmosphere and isn’t dull, uninteresting or plain at all and an interesting location.
It also has replayablity.
It’s balance isn’t bad.
It doesn’t have as much in terms of storyline, but neither did some of the World at War maps.
It’s not the least original map.
It’s aged well and is very fun.
And I wouldn’t say it’s nothing special.
However I do agree in that it was a good map to have on disc.
Kelis 98 but it’s boring when you play with friends, that’s the biggest problem with it, it’s just bland and boring, tranzit is more fun with friends cuz you have so much more stuff to do on that map

For me personally, Pat really overrates the importance of the Easter Egg and a Storyline for a map. For me, that’s really not that important, I just want to play the map, get perks, get wonder weapons, Pack a Punch and survive as long as possible. That’s why I love Kino and those “simple” maps

I think ray he focus to much on the game and not a light on the map as he says that the guns are so bad but that has nothing to do with the map as all bo1 maps have these guns also if the guns were better in the future games the games would continue to get easier and easier which makes no sense

Kino is my FAVORITE map for many reasons.
1. I grew up with Kino and playing it everyday with my brother.
2. A lot of people actually hate Kino (everyone I know except my brother).
3. Kino technically innovated a lot, all new guns, a new trap, new camping spots.
4. I just love to go sit down and play a nice calm game if Kino.

Maps don't necessarily need to build on the story line, kino is a good character building map and as you said is a stop between der reise and acension. It's a stop between the madness and is a bit of fun. Not everything has to be try hardy ewstser egg shite. It's just something fun to play

I love the fire trap high round Strat that's it, this map is heavily overrated when it comes to challenges and standard gameplay.
Although I respect your opinion, I think there's a decent amount to do on original kino:
Shoot the 2 radios
Knife all 6 power boxes, which speeds up teleporter cooldown time
Collect the rocks for the hidden song
Collect the film tape and play it
Collect secret weapon from the alleyway
Interact with the paintings
Turn power on
Spin the box
Pack a punch
Get perks
Activate traps
Get Bowie Knife
And most importantly, dolphin dive on your teammate in the corner so you both go down

My overall opinion on kino:
Pros:
- simple and easy for anyone to play
- great for high rounds
- on disk
- incredibly fun to play with a team
- holds incredibly fond memories for all
Cons:
-lack of replayability on solo
- lack of story line influence
- lack of innovation
(I think that the setting/ atmosphere may not be the most eye catching or stand out, but it’s still a good setting)
I disagree on con 1 and don’t much care for con 2 and on con 3 it did not need to innovate its casual friendly and brilliant map to practice the game on for noobs
