Try to do that on a Baron with that little 5 inches wheel on the nose ,, ha ha ,, sure there are fast powerful twins , there are luxury twins, , and there are Piper Aztecs !! sound, predictable, stable , always reliable ,can do it all with room to spare !!!

Thank you very much. That really put a smile on my face. I am looking forward to making more flying and maintenance content this year.

I flew an Aztec that looked just like that. Took it into small grass strips a number of times, usually with all seats filled and fuel over half. It is a great hauler😉

It really is a joy to fly. What year was the Aztec you use to fly?

Fastback Flying My recollection was it was a ‘64. It had the normally aspirated Lyc-O-540s. I get nostalgic every time I see Sporty’s Aztec because it was a twin paint job to ours😉

Very cool video! Love the briefings both in the air and on the ground. That Aztruck looks much bigger on the runway!

I am really glad you enjoyed it. Always important to have a good plan spoken out loud as to what your going to do.

I just bought a 1966 Aztec C for flights below 400 miles. Owner operator Phenom 100 too. Love the Aztec.

Thank you very much sir. I have been flying in and out of this runway for almost 14 years in many different airplane types. I made sure I was very proficient and confident before taking the Aztec there working my way into smaller and more challenging runways.

If you bring the flaps down just a bit off the stop ,, I would say 7 to 9 degrees 10 at the most that would make the take off even more solid , you feel that the wing really cups the air without compromising your vmc ,, , if you need to get rid of the flaps it only takes one second to bring that up ,,, if a single condition develops sucking up the gear is the priority ,,, remember the power pack would only let you do gear or flap one at a time , but not both a at the same time ,,,, the hydraulic pump is in the left engine , some Aztecs may have an emergency electric pump ,,,

I will give that a try with a little flap on take-off. Yes I am very happy that I have the electric backup pump!

If the mags were off you’d probably notice.

Yes you certainly would if both were off but only one is not so easy to tell. All the toggle switches are the same design all in line and could easily be distributed. Lots of caution is need at night due to poor lighting and the need to toggle landing lights and fuel pumps.

Fastback Flying I once accidentally turned them off with my knee, engine turned back on but I really don’t like those switches there. I think the Navajo has them in the overhead.

Hello Fastback Flying, would you mind telling me the exact model of the aircraft? Thanks! :)

This is a B model Aztec. PA23-250 or ICAO ident would be PA27

10 degrees flaps on taxiway and take off. Why not? Forgot?

10 degrees of flaps for a short field take off drastically reduces the take run. This is something I regularly do and was completed on purpose. It was first suggested to be by another experienced Aztec pilot who flew alot of back country. After experimenting with it myself I can confirm it works very well.
