I was sharing your frustration while watching you work on this Hoppe lockset. I hate these things with a passion. Every summer I used to get 2 or 3 to repair. Hated them. Thank you for sharing. I don’t feel so bad about myself now, fighting this lock. Be safe out there.
Got to subscribe. I love these things. I hate these things. I wish I could work on these every day. Then I could get real good at them. Not to many experts out there I bet. And if the doors are not in perfect alignment or are some settling has occurred, good luck.
My inner top and bottom poles that help lock the doors, well the bottom pole has locked itself in the bottom of the door and I don’t know how to remove it from bottom of the door. The top pole is fine, it’s just the bottom lock pole. Do you have a suggestion?
I have a patio door with this locking system and pulling the handle up to turn the dead bolt has become difficult. Anyone know what would cause this and how to fix it?? Thanks!
Sounds like you first need to check the strike areas at the top & bottom and frame edge first. If it’s hitting the strike anywhere you will absolutely break your lock if you keep forcing it. Hold door open, press the little tab under it above latch and lift handle. If it works easily then your door is sagging. Tighten hinge screws them check. You will likely need to lower your frame edge strike plate a small amount
@@selock I have checked those areas and ground off some material at the bottom of each striker, but it didn't help. If the door is open the system works easily. And the door is not sagging at all.
I might have to repair a tongue latch version soon. I still have to fill out the Hoppe form to make sure I order the right one for the customer. It's one of the automatic ones that pull the deadbolt in if you leave it in the extended position when closing the door. This should be fun.
Learned this the hard way…the deadbolt will only function when the door is closed and handles are on. Pull up on the handle to engage the upper and lower locks, then you can turn the deadbolt. 3 hours later and we have a functioning door again. I really hope this Hoppe company goes out of business
Hey Jason. I’m a big fan and although I’ve been into locksmith in gin Canada for 22 years I’m still learning and a lot from your videos. Keep up the good work. BTW. I’ve been looking and can’t seem to find a rasp rotary bit like the one you removed from your drill. Can you tell me where you bought yours? Thanks Jason !
This is the one I mainly get, holds up pretty decent. I’m sure there are better but 🤷♂️ Vermont American 16671 1/2-Inch by 7/8-Inch Useable Length Domed Cylinder Metal 1/4-Inch Shank Rotary File for Drill a.co/d/aSf09FP Thanks for watching!
@@selock haha! The boss won’t even touch them. The other locksmith in the shop took the job and quoted high hoping she wouldn’t get it but the person said “sure ok!” She doesn’t like dealing with them either lol

Installing my first Hoppe MP lock this next monday.. 😬 Why the tapping on the levers after the re-install?
freeing it up a bit, must have been a bit tight

Toe and heel the door, it sounds as if it has dropped slightly

@@selock thanks Jason for the quick response. I will definitely keep watching!!
thanks for this vid. i'm getting info so i can fix mine.
Where do you get one?
Montana Matthew I normally would be helpful and let you know but it would be to slow slow so figure it out yourself
Sorry, it just a lot of slow scenes. To many for me. Sorry about that remark.
I did figure it out. Broken gear inside the lock cylinder.
what company can install for Hoppe lock in Bergen County NJ?
I heard these being cussed in the shop today 🤣
Measure what?
“Literally every friggin thing plus everything else, and then that other measurement you didn’t even think of”

In the future it would be great if you (1) had someone else operate the camera (2) edited (3) commented about what you’re doing step-by-step
William Ravenel LOL 😂 OK then
What a slow slow video
That was an awful video. You would think a big company like Hoppe would make a professional video.
