I am very moved by Louie's character. The way he loves his surroundings, his culture, and his people. He has survived so much anguish and injustice. But despite that he lives a meaningful life. His personality is unique and very inspiring. I hope he is doing well

It is heart wrenching to hear Louie talk how he wanted to talk to his father and find forgiveness and that the father would be JUST a father to him. This is powerful. The human race is so messed up. Yet we all want to find acceptance and love.
I have had relationships with men who are Muslim, and unfortunately the family can often be so over powering and it is almost impossible to change the families mind. The religion is everything to them.

What is life when a person choose a path that his conscience knew it was wrong n still did it. For Louis’ dad spoke on the phone, u already knew it was wrong n the fear clutched u. That’s why u keep saying no, no,no for it was exposed n there is consequences to face. I am not discriminating the LGBT but there is a right n wrong. Can see u r so alone n thank God at least u know which organisation u can approach for help. Turn to Jesus who can set you free.

As a trans woman that escaped Kazakhstan, which is far from Sharia Law but still Islamic. This brought me so much tears, terror, anxiety and traumatic memories of how my life would have turned out if I did not leave to the U.S. This is why it is so important to people from the West to watch these type of documentries whether you are straight or LGBT to see how people struggle and how ACTUALLY good they have it in their countries. People in the West and especially LBGT need to understand that they are NOT really oppressed. I understand, we still face some prejudice and discrimation in the West but not to this level.
When Louie said that his father was ready to cut his throat, it triggered me so much. I remember me being 6, getting beaten and chased down by my father who beat me up with his belt for SIMPLY painting my nails and putting on my sister's dress to play. I was a KID that was just playing. If only I had any idea what actually was going ON. People treat LGBT as mentally ill or distrubed or even cursed. Ever since then, I was not as brave as Louie to be open or even date bc I was sooo scared my father would find out. So I had to supress my desires and hide to be able to plan my escape.
Thankfully, I was a pro tennis player and had the privilege to travel to Israel and West Europe to play tennis tournaments. I remember my coach (Slovakian) telling me that I was different but I was confused on what. He just wanted me to see the world and that I have a chance to be a NORMAL human being here. To this day, I am so grateful to him that he opened my eyes.
With that being sad, I am happy where I am at. I am a professional with a career, graduated college and living my FREELY. I do miss my family and my culture TO THIS DAY, but there is nothing I can do. It is hurtful that I am disowned and misunderstood for simple being DIFFERENT. Life moves on and I can make the best out of what IS given.

But I don't know why so many people want to eradicate Israel when it's the only place in the Middle East where gay people can be safe. My bf is Iranian. He had to seek asylum in Ireland as he was outed at work (he was a teacher). When I met him he was working in a pizza place with some crazy Colombians. Crazy but nice...lol He now speaks really good English and is trying to teach me Farsi...but it's impossible 😅

Louie's story touched me deeply. His need to reconcile his past. His love for his culture, his people, and his country. His desire to just be free where he is and not have to relocate to live the life we should all be able to. Such a courageous person. I hope Louie, Abdu, and Faris are all happy, healthy, and living out loud.

64. Who starts creation, then repeats it, and gives you livelihood from the sky and the earth? Is there a god alongside Allah? Say, “Bring your evidence, if you speak the truth.”
65. Say, “No one in the heavens or on earth knows the invisible except Allah, and they don’t realize when they’ll be resurrected.”
66. In fact, their knowledge of the Afterlife is confused. In fact, they doubt it. In fact, they're blind to it.
67. The unbelievers say, “When we and our ancestors turn to dust, will we be brought out?
68. That was promised to us and our ancestors before. These are just legends of antiquity.”
69. Say, “Travel on earth, and see the plight of the sinners.”

As of 2022, a total of 66 Palestinians who were either members of the LGBTQ community or victims of domestic violence received temporary residence in Israel. However, in general, Palestinians are not eligible for asylum status in Israel. Feb 7, 2024 As a community, we still have work to do. :)
How is it possible to feel complete sadness and happiness for Louie all at the same time? It’s heartbreaking. The persecution that humans are subjected to because they love differently is painful.

I am older and I remember that even in America there was persecution of Gays. But we did not surrender and eventually won.
So it is important to move forward and to actually see changes, even within families. It is possible to educate people, to communicate and not be frightened. You may be surprised to learn love and respect can grow.

I have a Palestinian friend who’s brother was murdered for being gay- this poor guy was expected to share the delight of ridding his family of this ‘sin’ and because he loved and supported his brother he himself had to flee to refuge in Israel. Wow... this was an eye opener for me To see young men at such early stages of their lives having dealt with such grand issues and dangers. Yet they are genuine and caring and sensitive to each other. Hard for me to think that they could lose their life for being gay! Its good to know that they have escaped to freedom and have some peace of mind after facing ordeals. I'm only 5 minutes into this documentary & I'm so thankful that I have a loving family that wouldn't trade or hurt me for anything in the world. As an American I tend forget others aren't as free as I am & others come from families who disown them. Seeing stuff like this makes me so grateful & makes my heart ache for the ones who have it 10 times harder

They recognize same-sex marriage if it is performed outside Israel', . have two cabinet ministers who are gay, have the largest Pride in the entire region, and basically near full equal rights for LGBT people. The Philippines still needs to work on the SOGIE bill, though. Queer people in the Philippines are at least enjoying a relatively higher social acceptance rate, but some can’t apply for a job because of their sexuality. Same goes for public opinion on marriage equality, but a number of Philippine politicians support same-sex civil unions. It’s honestly a bumpy ride for queer Filipinos.
How emotional & great this documentary was. I truly felt for Louie & the guys. Everyone should be accepted as human beings & those that oppose it are so vicious & cruel. Louie I’m glad you started a new life where you have the freedom to be yourself & not live in fear. I come from melb Australia & I’m so happy that our country accepts everyone.

Israel should let in as many Gay Palestinians as possible. I heard there were already thousands of gay Palestinians from the territories living in Tel Aviv. It’s obviously easy to sneak back in to Israel, but they also need to stop sending these people back. As a gay Jew who visited Tel Aviv, I thought it was a magical place. It’s like a weird kind of west meets east. I don’t like conflict, but I’d rather live in a place where I can at least legally live together with my partner.

I am profoundly saddened by what I have watched. These men are brave but extremely unfairly treated by Palestine and Israel. What is so difficult to understand about people simply wanting to live their lives the way they need and want? I hope they all finally get the life they want and deserve. They will be killed if they are openly gay in Gaza or many places in the West Banks. There is absolutely no comparison between how Israel and Islamic controlled nations treat their gay citizens. BTW there are thousands of Israeli Arabs who are openly gay, both Christian and from islamic backgrounds. The issue is their citizen status as Palestinians, and i agree with you, they should be able to live in Israel as refugees.
@@eddihaskell I know it is very different to be gay in Israel with respect to Palestine. But if you read what I wrote, I am referring to the men in the video, not to gays in general. Israel keeps deporting them back to a place where their lives are in danger. That, despite the humane work the non profit organization is doing with them and the letters they carry on them.
This is what happens when you let Religion rule over common sense and conscience. People who grow up under these cultures have learned to simply accept what is fed to them without taking the time to question these obviously wrong ideals. It's really scary being LGBT in Islamic countries, people have no idea and it frustrates me how they don't even talk about it, not just that but they support Hamas (the reason behind Sharia Law in Palestine). Even more disgusting when these people also claim they support LGBT! If I had one last day to live, I'd pay my soul to just have one normal day where I could rest without the anxiety and fear of getting tortured to death.

Ye! I came here after seeing queer for Palestine! Gay pro hamas video. It is top 5 ironic thing I see. The thing about respect is that sometimes it isn’t mutual. While yes! people can respect other innocent. They can empathize with innocent. However, that respect and empathy aren’t gonna reciprocate to them. A beautiful story of three human beings who were not accepted by family or culture, but did not lose their faith in moving forward in every setback, getting up, I am satisfied to see Abdul so happy even in the conditions they live in, it never ceases to surprise me, always trying to shake hands with someone who wanted to get out of that hell like him, I hope they manage to maintain their friendship and prosper so they can continue helping others like them in those countries

These men are so incredibly brave and tough. I don’t take for granted that my husband and I are privileged enough to live a peaceful, quiet life here in the US surrounded by our family and friends. I hope that they can all find a life full of the dignity, safety and love they deserve. Just sad.

They leave, and she said to herself that she don't wanted to die and pray. She saw a bird fly to the kitchen and she remembered there's a window and she went there crawling until she reach the highway again lucky for her the taxi driver stop an American and he asked if she needed help. That's the story she was able to save herself to be killed and went to shelter, by the way at her young age she was raped by her father and his friends or uncle. And never looked back and not thinking of coming back forever.

The saddest part of Louie's story is that despite not being legally permitted to live in Yisrael, his total and complete love for the country shines through in spades. He is as Israeli as any of the 9.5 million Jews, Arab-Israelis & Christians that call Ha'aretz home ❤️ .

TBH, most millenials and Gen Z's no longer care when they know that someone is LGBT (My observation as their teacher) unlike before. Furthermore, we have a lot of LGBT theme/stories that are already integrated in different media. However, there's very little portion that still 'reluctant' which comprises mostly of "Boomers" generation.

I cried. I can't believe how hard they have it out there in their homeland just because of who they love. I'm sad that they're forced to leave their lives behind and start a new one in a completely different environment, but I'm also happy that in their new home they can be free.
This documentary truly opened my eyes on how privileged I am and how queer people have it so hard in these very religious countries.
I wish these three wonderful men all the best on their new journey and to never stop believing in themselves and in the bravery they have.

Man, Louie's story was heart-wrenching.
Also, when Abdu said that all the problems would be solved if gays ran the Israeli and Palestinian government, I felt that on a spiritual level. I'd support it!
This is a powerful film that provides awareness and educate on the lives of LGBTQ+ ⚧️ 🏳️⚧️ 🏳️🌈 and how these men chose to give us a window into their journey to be free. This film deserves more views in Western cultures bc we see esp in the political arena, the slow promotion of crime against the LGBTQ+ community and awareness is key to comprehend when we resist and push forward against antiquated rules. Everyone deserves to be happy and to prosper and to be loved.
Wow this documentary is really groundbreaking. I was really moved emotionally by the strength and resilience of these men... how they love their homelands and feel homesick. And how despite everything they manage to find joy in life and keep going

I recently joined the Palestinian solidarity campaign because of the atrocities by Israel against the innocent people. After watching this video I feel very upset by the way gay Palestinians are treated and I have now ended my membership and monthly donations.

I couldn't stop watching. His life is so heartbreaking. I wish to give them a hug and say "We're with you!" I hope all of them and so many others can restart their lives in a safe place. No one deserves to be judged, be killed or be in jail for it.
Come to Iceland. The queer community is fantastic as well as the queer organisation. I have a father who is a retired priest and ever since I came out he as fought for equality within the national church,he even stood up against the current bishop in the 2000's and in 2010 we got the same sex marriage through.

As a 19 year old Norwegian man in 2004 I traveled to Morocco. Wanted to experience arab culture and have fun with my family. I knew that homosexuality was illegal, but from the time I landed in that country I was sexually harassed all the time, as soon as I was away from my family. In the airport, a security guard tried to lure me in to a bathroom, he rubbed his genitals right in front of me. In stores( a helper came and said that he wanted to take me home after work for fun, and he stroked my hand and made kissing gestures), at the street harassed all the time, in agadir I tried to run on the beach, men all around making it very well known that they wanted sex from me…….I have heard that Egypt is the same……..it was actually terrifying and I was so glad when we left. Never experienced something like that other places in the world. I can’t imagine how it is to be a woman in those countries…very double moral if you ask me….people should be able to be themselves legally..lot of sexual frustration there.
Maybe it is like this because it is so repressed. I have heard similar experiences to yours from friends who have travelled in Egypt

I dated 2 Palestinian men in the UAE. One was shot in the knee by Israeli border guards. The other got a job in the UAE to escape detection by his family. His cousin, a very feminine young man, went to the US on a scholarship but died after being given the date rape drug. I feel for these young men.
I'm in contact with someone in Yemen who is in the same situation. 😟

Israel should offer asylum for Palestinian gay people and this would help the civilized world respect Israel.
They do it since 2022. But it’s a long process to prove that you are gay and you are under threat. Israel tries to avoid to accept terrorist disguised as refugees or asylum seekers. And I hate it. Because, other people that don’t deserve the refugee status got it more easily than real people in danger.
Louie Is from Tel Aviv at heart. It's sad, as it's clearly where he wants to be. I hope he gets that chance someday. I hope all 3 men can live safely wherever they may be now.
This documentary was beautifully created. Bravo to the gentlemen that had the bravery and courage to so elegantly share their stories with us. Though my heart broke a bit more and more as I watched, especially through Louie's story, it is important that awareness is brought about the treatment of the LGBT community in this region. Louie's story touched me tremendously as you can see the pain in his eyes throughout the documentary when he speaks about his story and his desire to not ever leave his homeland of Palestine. It is similar to that of a double edged sword - leaving for your ability to live in safety vs a forced departure by the occupying forces.
I pray that wherever Louis, Abdu and Fares are that they are living peacefully. Sending so much love.
The "occupying forces" you are talking about, ISRAEL, has done more for them than what their own families and government SHOULD be doing for them. He should be able to live his life freely in his own home, but his father made it clear he rather have a dead son than a gay son.
As an American, I had no idea the Arab culture could be so devastatingly cruel to their own sons and daughters. This documentary was an absolute eye opener for me! I am glad these three men made it out alive. You can't look back and try to move forward with your life. It just doesn't work that way. I hope they each make a new life and, simply, move on to a better way of life. New country. New friends. New discoveries.

I feel Louie's pain of being who he is amongst his people, his culture and all that he knows. Even if his life is better in Europe in terms of safety and living standards, he prefers to be amongst his own people, even if they don't fully accept him. Abdu's personality, presence and energy in spite of everything that he has been through, is just magical. I wish them all the happiness going forward.
Being a lesbian I feel bad for them cuz in america there is discrimination against gays, lesbians, transgenders- I got beat up sometimes when I was elementary to highschool once by 30 people but in Palestine its worse discrimination I pray for all GTBL safety all over the world & for discrimination to reduce more ESP. What anyone does to express their love or desire physically, is such a small part of anyone's relationship. The minute someone hears that someone is gay, their mind goes right to sex. Loving relationships are about everything else shared by two souls. Get your mind off the çrotch. If you say you're heterosexual, no one pictures what you and your partner are doing in the bedroom. I can't make it any clearer.
This story pulled on the heart strings, at the end of the day no matter who you are, no matter what your beliefs if you are a peaceful loving person you have the right to live that one life as you should no matter what prejudices others may have against you. I hope he gets to go back to where he truly belongs one day and that is his rightful place in this world.

Marcel, you must've misunderstood. The persecution of Palestinian gays is by the Palestinian authorities. Not the Israeli authorities. Who do you think is helping all those Palestinian victims? Who has invested money into this documentary to bring their cause to worldwide attention. The Israelis, of course! So, we should rather thank them! Who understands what it is to be persecuted better than them? The Palestinian State is a Gestapo/police state! I'm Lebanese. I know what I'm talking about.
This was a good documentary. I'm so glad they all made it out safe. I have a friend who was born in Palestine, but his family moved to Puerto Rico when he was still a baby. Even as an adult having grown up in the United States, he's still afraid of what might happen if his family finds out he's gay. I really hope that someday soon homophobia can be eradicated in this culture and in so many others around the world.

It will never happen. Thanks to Enlightenment, religion hasn't the impact on everyday life it once had, at least in the western sphere. But in Islamic countries, prospects are dire. Some may have advanced economically, but their mindset is still stuck in the middle ages. I think it was an anthropologist who once wrote that in most societies the acceptance of gays was always directly linked to the social rank of women. The better their standing in society, the more tolerant the attitude towards gays. Now look at the deplorable situation of women in so many Islamic states....

There’s the neurobiology of why we are (LGBT+ community) the way we are - which fascinates me and proves that WE ARE AS NORMAL AS EVERY HUMAN BEING IS. I was raised in a Christian culture, but now I’m either an atheist or apatheist, and I find comfort in science, studying biology and neurobiology in particular. In the Animal kingdom, we also find e.g. homosexual behaviours not only in us (homo sapiens). If any of these traits were unnecessary or disadvantageous, evolution would have phased them out long ago. We are not weird, It’s never been our choice, we can’t change even if we wanted to for the sake of society🙄. We were born this way, we are a small percentage of the „heteronormative” population and so what; it can feel isolating/lonely at times not being able to relate to others, burying our truth inside, and putting our masks on to fit in which is harmful to our mental health at the end of the day - not being our authentic self (what we feel deep inside), hidden and living in fear of rejection and not being accepted. It’s not our fault that for some reason our „different” way of dressing, behaving, loving, and living activates in some people the insula (located deep within the folds between the temporal and frontal lobes of the brain) related e.g. to a moral disgust in humans - so if for them it feels disgusting - it’s wrong wrong wrong, it’s not right🤡 🪞🤦♂️(quite retarded way of judging the world around you btw) which can have dramatic and dangerous consequences for us.
We are not the problem, but the societies we live in are (not everyone in them of course, I’m talking about those extremes).

Louie there are so many of us that left our countries to be where we are accepted. Not wanting to learn the language or culture is secondary where your freedom to be gay is concerned.
