To me out of all the classic scores that ive heard and own from the great legendary James horner this soundtrack is by far his best. It had so many blistering and powerful themes. Very complex score that ive always been amazed by. A score that you can put right up there with the Star wars scores and many other movie music masterpieces! Most composers that ive seen that usually delivers monstrous masterpieces like this one are most of the time much older but James defied logic with his marvelous Krull score. He proved being as young as he was at this time that even the young can be masters of movie music too!!!!
My Uncle who lived in Jersey got stuck in NYC due to bad weather when the movie came out. He took me, a six year old to the Alpine theater in Brooklyn to see this movie right after the family dinner. Mind blown! One of the fondest memories I have of my Uncle.
Sometimes when i travel alone in the world, I think about this movie...and the soundtrack sounds on my mind , I close my eyes and I feel happy without a reason. This music it's just WONDERFUL, and James Horner was a genial composer. Krull reminds my childhood , my dad record for me this movie on tv on an old VHS tape.
This is by far i think James horner's best work!!! James has done so many blistering soundtracks from 48 hrs to Commando to Aliens and of course the mellow and beautiful Cocoon soundtrack. But Krull had so many explosively exciting themes and a powerful and moving love theme that for me makes this his most definitive work. James outdid himself on this one. So sad he left this world so early, especially when it seems this world didn't get enough of his sheer brilliance and genius in his superb craft of movie scoring. I really miss him and i thank him for being part of my very talented list of movie composers. Movie music is by far my favorite kind of music and James horner always fit perfectly in that category!!!
Maybe influenced by the idea behind the Star Wars music, (?) James Horner accompanies the entertaining science fiction picture KRULL with a fantastically lush orchestrated Korngoldian score (mainly the work of Greig McRitchie). The London Symphony Orchestra gives an outstanding performance, too. Enjoy this musical giant!
It is very similar to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, in fact if you played some of this and told me it was from Star Trek, I wouldn't notice. All this isn't surprising as Horner wrote the score for that too! There is also a very strong Wagnerian thread running through the score at times, which suited the fantasy themes of Krull. It is a very beautiful score. I also notice that Howard Shore's score for The Lord of the Rings sounds like it might have been influenced a little by this too.
I still remember one of the first times in my childhood that the hairs of my neck and arms standed up and I felt that whoa thing in my stomach. It was when they rode the fire horses and this music was at its peak. Wonderful.
oh come on; not Oscar material but good Friday night movie fun. besides, where else do you see anyone RIDING Clydesdales...at least not since they were warhorses... (correct me if I'm wrong but I think they and shires descended from the destrier and "great horse"?)
Definitely, the beautiful cue that James horner composed for the scene of Colywn climbing the mountain to obtain the glaze is very similar to the cue he composed in Cocoon when Jack's boat was speeding across the water and he was wearing sunglasses. All of James earlier scores are stamped with his classical trademark familiar style of writing and Krull and Cocoon classically displays that!!
James Horner was very derivative of himself. I read somewhere that he never listed to his scores once they were done.... maybe this explains why so many little bits appear in several movies. But its all terrific stuff.
Nice little suite from an early James Horner score.I love this score you can already hear the genius in Hornets writing.I love The quest for the glave.Amazing
Krull was a fantastically terrible movie I enjoyed very much as a kid. My god is it awful…how laughably ridiculous some scenes are, simply incredible. I love this movie.
James Horner was a genius. Krull is one of the best soundtracks ever created. He will be missed.
Yes, is a very good soundtrack

Well said
Well said!
I just recently saw this movie for the first time and had so much fun watching it, in no small part due to James Horner's lush score!
Great recording! Krull is quickly becoming one of my favorite Horner works.
A magnificent score and a beautiful orchestration! The music really evaluates this movie.

It also has a bit of "Battle Beyond the Stars," which was the second score Horner did, way back in 1980.
R.I.P James Horner
An extraordinary masterpiece!!!

A master of the fantasy score, Horner's music gave so much energy and life to adventure.
Brilliant ! One of Horner's best. Thanks Fred.

I was referring to James Horner's score. I was not criticizing the film.
Don't you just love all the French horns???
I love the French horns.
The horns of angels.
One of my favourite movie scores and childhood movie memory. I hear Warner Brothers may reboot the movie. God bless James Horner!
Can hear alot of little pieces from this work pop up in Cocoon and the early Star Trek scores.

Like the film or not this score is magical ❤️

Right now, James Horner is in Heaven creating music for GOD with Basil Poledouris and Jerry Goldsmith!!!
I would love to believe that but something tells me that departed film composers are in Heaven sitting in David Raksin's scoring class.
Recuerdo esta película, creo que es de principios de los 80. 👏👏👏👏
One of my favorite fantasy movies! Love the soundtrack! REALLY LOVE this suite by you! :-)
This scores kicks butt. It's literally the only reason I could sit through the movie.
Oh c'mon where is the child that was in you ?

You don't sound like a fan at all, apparently, you're not a kid at heart.
