    I have a 98 Cadillac Eldorado with 134,000 miles on it.. it blew the head gasket a year ago. I put in Blue Devil head gasket sealer and the car has been running ever since. I don't baby at either I open it up all the time I love this car mine is in great condition inside and out and I have a blast with it. I plan to rock this Beast till the wheels fall off. Haters do what you do.

      Hey Jay. Whats up buddy. Hope all is well. Couldn't help myself from shootn u this message. Because its a recurring subject that keeps popn up in ur videos comments. Im extremely curious of ur opion on this matter!!! With that said.. Im completely shocked with all these ignorant,arrogant,uneducated idiots that comment 2 u/ur channel. When u are a REAL WORLD true CAR GUY. U appreciate & are interested in all cars. Regardless of the make,model,year. Even if its not ur cup of tea. U can appreciate its options/performance,popularity,following,value[parts or whole] & finally its heritage/story! It is 100% a labor of love. That being said thats why i watch u & ur vids!!!! So i keep sayn 2 myself. What is wrong with these peeps n the comments!?! Where do they come from? & better yet..what do they come from? The only thing i can come up with about these toolboxes. Is that there silver spoon fed, ignorant,rich lil punks!?! Cars that u and me would cream jeans over. They call junk! Talk all kinds of shit about shit they no nutn about. Then talk shit about the ''losers'' that drive/drove these p.o.s. 1 ignorant fuck even told me that its because of ''constant bad life choices'' that the people made. Thats why they are where they are & drive shitboxes!!?!! I had 2 explain 2 this p.o.s that u cant always control the cards ur dealt. Theres plenty of peeps who made all the ''right moves'' & still got fuct!!! So now that i got that all out of my system!!! lol.. Whats ur take on these idiots? Thanks bud! & keep up the good work!!!!!

    I just picked up a 96 El dorado for my 16 year old. I paid $4700 for it. It came with 60,000 original miles, pristine white leather interior, dealership sticker still in the glove box. Original cost in 1996 was $46,000. This car is such a comfy ride, and it gets 25mpg on the freeway.

    Plugs, plugboots, fuel filter, used electric window switches.

  • @WS3RD
    @WS3RD 2 роки тому +1

    I had one from 2002-2004. LOVED IT! But I sold it because of unacceptable wind noise coming from the passenger side window. The proposed "fix" was $1500, and not guaranteed. This was a Cadillac design fault. The door windows went to the roof -- not hitting a door frame. The 300HP Northstar was intimidating. I was only 42 years old at the time, but I felt like I was piloting a rocket. Nothing was bad about the car except the wind whistling, which made my Cadillac feel like a Yugo.

    I had to replace the ignition on my Cadillac. Luckily for me, mine is 20 years older than that Eldorado, so no high-tech computers and stuff. But removing the steering wheel and turn signal assembly WAS A PAIN. Mostly cuz I never done one. XP
    99k? Eldorado won't last a week before someone is interested.
    Maybe you should drive a Cadillac for a day. You might like it! ^^

Very comfortable car to drive and gets really good fuel mileage on long trips ( 28 on the freeway at 70 mph ) . Still have not had to replace the head gaskets .

    I wish this Eldorado came into one of my salvage yards that I visit cause I'd buy it! Especially black with the saddle tan leather interior combo! My family always owned mostly Cadillac's and worked on several other cars both foreign and domestic. The Northstar is by far one of the best engines ever made by Cadillac. Some things might be a little tricky for some people but a lot of things including maintenance is very easy to do on these engines. Never have any Northstar Cadillac's that me or my family owned ever had any problems, we actually had more problems on all other year Cadillac's. There's a reason why the Northstar is Cadillac's longest produced V8 engine and the only Cadillac-built V8 offered in any other GM luxury car and includes 4 different varients. When these are maintained properly they do run forever and are very stout built engines. And when not maintained or cared for is when problems will occur just like any other car out there.

    The 10th generation Cadillac ElDorado went for around $38,000 in the early 90s to late 00s. Out of the Cadillac lineup at the time, it was near top or top of the line. Favored by older folks due to its functionality and comparability, it is often looked down upon by the younger generations. A hot topic about this car is the engine. Some people, myself included, own the vehicle and know the 4.6L 32v Northstar V8 engine to be reliable and powerful for its size. Others believe that it is inferior and a trash motor, due to occasional cases of mechanical flaws. Also, some people seem to forget: This is not a sports car. Sure, it has a decent sized motor and all, but it handles like a boat on a lake. This is a luxury car, through and through. Shame some people can't spot a gem when they see it.

    These cars along with their cousins the STS & SLS of the same years, largely turned out to be a matter of which individual car one got. In other words, many had head gaskets went at 60k, 70k or whatever. Many others put up 200k and more without the problem. That said, it's still a roll of the dice. But to junk that particular car is crazy to me. It does appear to be giving suspension and other errors but it's unlikely they're impacting operation of the car.
    I had a '97 SLS. Ran up over 150k, hardly a problem (certainly not the head gaskets). So it was literally hit & miss.
    It should be noted that although it took them AGES to figure out a fix, the '05 and up Northstars - primarily in the newly redesigned STS, including the supercharged STS-V produced from '06 to '09 - have not had the head gasket problem. I had an '05 STS with 175k that my nephew unfortunately totaled out 2 years ago. Was a great car that frankly had some minor electronic issues, but not engine problems and nothing else major.
    I now have a '10 STS - with one of the last Northstar engines ever made in August of 2010 - with a little over 60k on it and it's been awesome too. They're great cars, but like all the others tend to have problems as they age. My current one is brilliant mechanically and electronically.
    Cadillac should have been forced to recall every one of the pre-2005 Northstar vehicles, but they weren't. It was clearly a design flaw that was far too prominent and frequent to have left alone.
    I'm glad they fixed it eventually because I've enjoyed all three Northstar-powered cars I've owned. I hope someone will rescue that ELDO from the crusher - she's nice.

    As good as it may look (I always thought that body style was fugly), that car could end up being a can of worms. Those window regulators are attached to the window motor. Dealers used to get $350 to replace them. My 2000 Deville had all 4 go. Two under warranty, one I had replaced, and the last one I said f*** it and wholesaled the car. The trunk also leaked. And the steering pump or something leaked down on to something important and kept the 'engine' light on. Not to mentioned a host of other issues. Car was only 6 years old when I got rid of it. It had the Northstar. Couldn't go on a 1,500 mile trip without adding a quart of oil.

    • @FMChimera
      @FMChimera 6 років тому

      Window regulators can be had on feebay for about $25. Installation is ridiculously easy, relative to most other cars. As for the rest, you obviously abused the car or it was abused before you got it.

    • @robsrandomness7824
      @robsrandomness7824 6 років тому +2

      Couldn't get regulators on ebay for $25 13 years ago. Not sure how you abuse power windows. Old couple had car the first 4 years. Wasn't abused. Car had never been hit, either. And I'm not much of a DIY person, especially on a 4 to 5 year old Caddy. And it was certified, so I had warranty on it much of the time I had it. Face it, it was GM junk.

    I wonder if this car was refurb'd and resold? Only a few issues, but I mean it's (near) fully functional! I'm sure it would have made a good cash car for someone who just wants to drive to work and home, the occasional visit with pals and errand runs. Obviously not for someone who wants to Hot rod of course. lol Interesting to see vehicles EoL. Kinda sad too, as I'm sure there are priceless memories in these machines!

    That's a nice looking car! I would fix it up and resell it. It still has a lot of life left.

    It seems like this Eldorado can be saved. Some TLC issues that can be handled if you are halfway handy with cars.

    you are correct sir......97-99 northstar motors are super quick.....but also are a super pain in the ass....over-heating etc.

    If only u was closer, I'd buy tht car n a heart beat!! I've owned a 98 deville and got 140,000 miles out of it and had to replace a few inexpensive parts then the fuel pump was going out and a few more things and had to trade it off. To this day, I miss tht car so bad. I'll own another cadillac one day. Hopefully soon tho

    Big question is: why was it scrapped? Those north stars don't always smoke when the head gaskets lift off the block. When the head bolt holes in the block start to pull and blow coolant out of the overflow tank, it might not smoke. Not if its the very early stages but you said it didn't overheat so who knows. Power trunk thing is a common thing but I doubt it would be scrapped for that, it can be cranked back down to shut level and unplugged. Just would have to slam the trunk a bit harder. Yeah this is strange why it was scrapped.

    Probably cost more than it's worth to fix. Sometimes you just gotta let em go.

    Even though that is not really a great car it's still sort of painful watching a perfectly good car being scraped
