- Just like the first, but twice as nice and maybe, the third times the charm? This one is almost ready to hit the road! Running! Driving! And sharp looking 98 Caddy. Big Bad ( and i mean terrible bad ) Northstar v8 Upfront! Pushing this two door pontoon to 0-60 in about 8.5 Headgaskets! Check it out! And drop a comment down below and let us know what you think! Thanks for watching!
If people are throwing cars like this and that BMW away, I think its time for me to start my own "scrap" yard business.
I have a 98 Cadillac Eldorado with 134,000 miles on it.. it blew the head gasket a year ago. I put in Blue Devil head gasket sealer and the car has been running ever since. I don't baby at either I open it up all the time I love this car mine is in great condition inside and out and I have a blast with it. I plan to rock this Beast till the wheels fall off. Haters do what you do.
You know, I actually prefer these used car reviews kinda. It helps create a more realistic expectation of a car I could probably afford
Yeah me too.
Yeah kinda shows what a normal everyday car looks like, very relevant to one most of us would buy
Northstar. 32 valves. 16 to burn fuel, 12 to burn coolant, 4 to burn oil.
I have to remember this
Hey Jay. Whats up buddy. Hope all is well. Couldn't help myself from shootn u this message. Because its a recurring subject that keeps popn up in ur videos comments. Im extremely curious of ur opion on this matter!!! With that said.. Im completely shocked with all these ignorant, arrogant, uneducated idiots that comment 2 u/ur channel. When u are a REAL WORLD true CAR GUY. U appreciate & are interested in all cars. Regardless of the make, model, year. Even if its not ur cup of tea. U can appreciate its options/performance,popularity,following,value[parts or whole] & finally its heritage/story! It is 100% a labor of love. That being said thats why i watch u & ur vids!!!! So i keep sayn 2 myself. What is wrong with these peeps n the comments!?! Where do they come from? & better yet..what do they come from? The only thing i can come up with about these toolboxes. Is that there silver spoon fed, ignorant, rich lil punks!?! Cars that u and me would cream jeans over. They call junk! Talk all kinds of shit about shit they no nutn about. Then talk shit about the ''losers'' that drive/drove these p.o.s. 1 ignorant fuck even told me that its because of ''constant bad life choices'' that the people made. Thats why they are where they are & drive shitboxes!!?!! I had 2 explain 2 this p.o.s that u cant always control the cards ur dealt. Theres plenty of peeps who made all the ''right moves'' & still got fuct!!! So now that i got that all out of my system!!! lol.. Whats ur take on these idiots? Thanks bud! & keep up the good work!!!!!
Jay Smart do you have any classic cars in good condition n your yard?
@@MXguy95 hi Jay. Curious about a 2002 Eldorado ETC. Any thing to share? 68000 miles, 1 owner what might I expect as my daily driver.
Thanks. Liked your tour of the '98 eldo in the junkyard
I think this is one of my favorite generation of cars. The seats seemed comfortable back then.
I just picked up a 96 El dorado for my 16 year old. I paid $4700 for it. It came with 60,000 original miles, pristine white leather interior, dealership sticker still in the glove box. Original cost in 1996 was $46,000. This car is such a comfy ride, and it gets 25mpg on the freeway.
Love these caddys. I've got A 1992 Eldorado with the 4.9 with 61,261 original miles on it.
That Black Eldorado is Beautiful.
Love these cars and you are right some reviews can get you confused. Some say these cars are junk ,but I think it’s a great buy . Looking at one now 50k ,like new .Thanks fur the review .
i think these are good cars also they just need a little more love maintenance is key
That thing looks so nice for a 1998 GM product. Theres some stuff in that car that could pass for an 2007. What a nice ride!
Don't scrap it 😭
I can't believe what people scrap, you have a great job.
I laughed so hard at the "different color interia" love your videos! a realistic review of my type of a 3/4th hand car that I could afford. And the walkarounds, showing the cars are awesome!
I have a 95 Eldorado with the 32 valve Northstar, it runs great at 139,000 miles. A mechanic told me the head gasket problems started with 96 and up.
I've had this video on my playlist ever since you made it,, at the time I had one like it, still enjoy watching, thank you Jay!🌴💋
Glad you enjoyed it! Maybe you can find you another one some day! Thanks for the comment!
This is one of my favorite videos you've done, just for what you said at the beginning; you're not showing pristine showroom-kept vehicles, you're showing real-life cars in real-life condition---that's why I tune in.
Old caddys are the best, this one is an example. What a great car!
Wow. Cool finding that carphone. Those are so cool. Put it in your town car. It would look good there.
I have the 2001 ETC with 129,000 on the clock.
Replaced most of the cooling system so paid 2k for the car and 1k for water pump, radiator, thermostat & housing.
Plugs, plugboots, fuel filter, used electric window switches.
Drives and looks like a new vehicle. So fast, so smooth and the the heated seats feel great on the w-hole.
Happy.
I have a 2000 eldorado and love it . The seats are very comfortable. My favorite thing about this car is the noise level is low with the Windows down at 70 mph
I had one from 2002-2004. LOVED IT! But I sold it because of unacceptable wind noise coming from the passenger side window. The proposed "fix" was $1500, and not guaranteed. This was a Cadillac design fault. The door windows went to the roof -- not hitting a door frame. The 300HP Northstar was intimidating. I was only 42 years old at the time, but I felt like I was piloting a rocket. Nothing was bad about the car except the wind whistling, which made my Cadillac feel like a Yugo.
You made a good point during the beginning.I love these videos!
Glad you enjoy, and thanks for watching!
I own a Caddy ElDo 1997 and still running good. I don't plan to sell it and I enjoy riding it!!
What a sweet color combination! I wish mine was that color combination. These are freaking awesome cars. It is worth fixing because they are a whole lot of car for the money! Hopefully someone saves her! Hard to find color combination! You should save her Jay!
I have a 94 Seville STS, same car just 2 more doors. Mucho fun to drive
Wow, I really like that story about the cars at the beginning. It's true all of these cars have a story, god or bad, they had a life.
I had a 96 etc for a good bit. Had been in an accident and had a few problems from that like the abs and traction control didnt work but it ran flawless. Fast as hell too. Did 140 mph once lol. I loved it but it was too expensive to work on and I wanted another ford truck so I traded it off. Was very comfortable and very quick for what it was. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Beautiful car!
See it's stuff like this, is what makes your channel cool.
Well thanks !
Wow what a nice Cadillac :-) Waterpump replaced and door panel fixed and buffed it will be pristine. I also have a VHS cassette for the Ford focus Mk1.
That’s actually a sharp car, I’d drive it!
The elderado, the mustang, and the bmw will always be remembered
I had a 2000 almost just like this, only Black interior and an ETC...Also had a 96 ETC that was the same color as the 93 you showed... Hope this one gets saved!
Comes with a Blown head gasket for free of charge and oil leaks as standard equipment of a Northstar
Not to mention it likes to have a cigarette break from the hood
Lol replace the bolts, replace the water pump, purge the coolant system and fuck it why not just replace all of those shit hoses like the plastic purge line,
I had to replace the ignition on my Cadillac. Luckily for me, mine is 20 years older than that Eldorado, so no high-tech computers and stuff. But removing the steering wheel and turn signal assembly WAS A PAIN. Mostly cuz I never done one. XP
99k? Eldorado won't last a week before someone is interested.
Maybe you should drive a Cadillac for a day. You might like it! ^^
I have a 97 DeVille with just over 172,000 on it . I have replaced the water pump ( not as hard to do as some may say ) , thermostat , heater core and coolant reservoir , battery and alternator . Very comfortable car to drive and gets really good fuel mileage on long trips ( 28 on the freeway at 70 mph ) . Still have not had to replace the head gaskets .
I wish this Eldorado came into one of my salvage yards that I visit cause I'd buy it! Especially black with the saddle tan leather interior combo! My family always owned mostly Cadillac's and worked on several other cars both foreign and domestic. The Northstar is by far one of the best engines ever made by Cadillac. Some things might be a little tricky for some people but a lot of things including maintenance is very easy to do on these engines. Never have any Northstar Cadillac's that me or my family owned ever had any problems, we actually had more problems on all other year Cadillac's. There's a reason why the Northstar is Cadillac's longest produced V8 engine and the only Cadillac-built V8 offered in any other GM luxury car and includes 4 different varients. When these are maintained properly they do run forever and are very stout built engines. And when not maintained or cared for is when problems will occur just like any other car out there.
I've always loved this style and had bought a 94 for my niece, but good luck getting parts. You can't even get the shocks through GM anymore.
I love my 1996 ETC. Its such a killer car.
Really beautiful
My favorite car reviewers are Doug DeMuro and Vehicle Virgins. But this channel is my favorite for scrap vehicle reviewing.
If I lived closer to you Jay I'd purchase that Caddy.
I had a 1992 Eldorado that was SWEEEET! I bought the same rims as seen on this car and the car really looked beautiful with its Pearl White metallic paint with a slightly beige leather interior. Sadly, my ex was awarded it in our divorce and she nearly promptly ran it into the ground ruining that gorgeous car. I'd like to have another one or the STS.
Love your channel here in Texas!!!😎
I love the look of these
the Cadillac is so cool leather interior that car started up fine no problems you said water pump I definitely got to buy me one of those. car
Love Cadillac!!!
Such a beauty. Hey that rag in the trunk might be for the rain trunk might leak man
You guys must see some great, not so good cars,as i live in Australia this is great to see, keep up the good work, cheers peter
The Civic wagon in the beginning is the true gold mine
Looks like a keeper!
that's fuckin 'mint compared to my daily driver.
I love your videos cause they are real not like other channels
Jay please do a video of the white BMW 5 series. I love those older beamers.
yeah would love to see that e34! I own e34 as well :D
I love them too!!
KasparOnTube Same here budd :D 1993 e34 520i m50b20 Vanos 5 speed :) 14 owners before me, lot's of love needed. But i'll get er looking like new👍🏻
Hello from Sweden ❤️Older Classic Made in USA Cadillacs👍👍👍
How much you want .?
nice videos man. I'm a new sub. i currently drive a 95 Corolla. with 291k miles . i love your reviews. my car is a beater for sure but its value to me is unbuyable lol i gave $350 for it 2 years ago and replaced minor parts. can't beat a yoder for sure! keep up the great videos man!
I remember my step dad bringing those tapes hone to watch. He was a shop Forman at a cadillac dealership.
You have to buy the pellets from GM to keep the Eldorado from blowing head gasket the instructions are on the engine drain radiator add specified coolant and pellets
for some reason I really like that model Cadillac , they didn't handle well , they drank fuel , the ride was floaty , but they had a certain something that only a Cadillac has .
commodore665
True
Another great vid man!!
Wow that is a keeper
Had one of the Northstar blown out engines complete with beauty covers ,threw the whole thing up one the aluminum melt blast furnace ,only thing left rods and 4 camshafts and minor odds and ends. But lots of ingots.
So sad. I have a pristine 1998 Cadillac Eldorado ETC with over 150K on the ODO. Runs great, and still get's over 20 MPG on the highway. Great cars, and will last forever - IF properly cared for!
Yes
The 1998 Cadillac Eldorado needs a brand new water pump.
Got one just like it same color inside and out nice cars
A salvage yard operator once told me he crushes all modern Lincolns and anything front wheel drive, unless it's a driveable car he can sell as such. Everything else he saves.
I hope it was saved!
Good looking. My uncle had one like that - and ETS.
Whoever bought this car must've been really proud of it to put his initials.
Great video
Used car reviews are so much better! Not only do you get to see what the car offers, but you also get a first hand look at what to expect to wear (and where) on the vehicle ahead of time!
That mustang gt and Eldorado next to each other remind me of midtown madness🤣
The car is in very good shape
Well said opening statement.
I like how that mustang has wheels from an 06 Honda Accord
The 10th generation Cadillac ElDorado went for around $38,000 in the early 90s to late 00s. Out of the Cadillac lineup at the time, it was near top or top of the line. Favored by older folks due to its functionality and comparability, it is often looked down upon by the younger generations. A hot topic about this car is the engine. Some people, myself included, own the vehicle and know the 4.6L 32v Northstar V8 engine to be reliable and powerful for its size. Others believe that it is inferior and a trash motor, due to occasional cases of mechanical flaws. Also, some people seem to forget: This is not a sports car. Sure, it has a decent sized motor and all, but it handles like a boat on a lake. This is a luxury car, through and through. Shame some people can't spot a gem when they see it.
I had Flowmaster on mine, it sounded so good.
These cars along with their cousins the STS & SLS of the same years, largely turned out to be a matter of which individual car one got. In other words, many had head gaskets went at 60k, 70k or whatever. Many others put up 200k and more without the problem. That said, it's still a roll of the dice. But to junk that particular car is crazy to me. It does appear to be giving suspension and other errors but it's unlikely they're impacting operation of the car.
I had a '97 SLS. Ran up over 150k, hardly a problem (certainly not the head gaskets). So it was literally hit & miss.
It should be noted that although it took them AGES to figure out a fix, the '05 and up Northstars - primarily in the newly redesigned STS, including the supercharged STS-V produced from '06 to '09 - have not had the head gasket problem. I had an '05 STS with 175k that my nephew unfortunately totaled out 2 years ago. Was a great car that frankly had some minor electronic issues, but not engine problems and nothing else major.
I now have a '10 STS - with one of the last Northstar engines ever made in August of 2010 - with a little over 60k on it and it's been awesome too. They're great cars, but like all the others tend to have problems as they age. My current one is brilliant mechanically and electronically.
Cadillac should have been forced to recall every one of the pre-2005 Northstar vehicles, but they weren't. It was clearly a design flaw that was far too prominent and frequent to have left alone.
I'm glad they fixed it eventually because I've enjoyed all three Northstar-powered cars I've owned. I hope someone will rescue that ELDO from the crusher - she's nice.
that cadillac looks soo good, why scrapp it. i know that the northstar v8 is very problematic with the headgasket but the car looks so clean. that interior color with the black exterior looks so good
The crappier the car the more fun it is to review!
Keep up the good work jay your doing some great work I like what your putting up on your channel. I'm a subscriber and its always got interesting cars coming in as for this car rip out the crap motor and put the 4.9 in it.Or sale it with it gives the new owner a project. Cheers.
I love this Channel
As good as it may look (I always thought that body style was fugly), that car could end up being a can of worms. Those window regulators are attached to the window motor. Dealers used to get $350 to replace them. My 2000 Deville had all 4 go. Two under warranty, one I had replaced, and the last one I said f*** it and wholesaled the car. The trunk also leaked. And the steering pump or something leaked down on to something important and kept the 'engine' light on. Not to mentioned a host of other issues. Car was only 6 years old when I got rid of it. It had the Northstar. Couldn't go on a 1,500 mile trip without adding a quart of oil.
Window regulators can be had on feebay for about $25. Installation is ridiculously easy, relative to most other cars. As for the rest, you obviously abused the car or it was abused before you got it.
Couldn't get regulators on ebay for $25 13 years ago. Not sure how you abuse power windows. Old couple had car the first 4 years. Wasn't abused. Car had never been hit, either. And I'm not much of a DIY person, especially on a 4 to 5 year old Caddy. And it was certified, so I had warranty on it much of the time I had it. Face it, it was GM junk.
The bigger deal on these is the notorious headgasket failures on these Northstar engines. It junks the car as its not worth it to repair
my mom has a 98 eldorado. it also had a leaky trunk but it was an easy fix with some caulk...my dad and I had used a garden hose to find the leak
I wonder if this car was refurb'd and resold? Only a few issues, but I mean it's (near) fully functional! I'm sure it would have made a good cash car for someone who just wants to drive to work and home, the occasional visit with pals and errand runs. Obviously not for someone who wants to Hot rod of course. lol Interesting to see vehicles EoL. Kinda sad too, as I'm sure there are priceless memories in these machines!
That's a nice looking car! I would fix it up and resell it. It still has a lot of life left.
Ughhhhh that 5 series tho! She's a beaut too. Do a vid of that!
Half assed review…as you say… but I can’t get enough of them😂
It seems like this Eldorado can be saved. Some TLC issues that can be handled if you are halfway handy with cars.
you are correct sir......97-99 northstar motors are super quick.....but also are a super pain in the ass....over-heating etc.
If only u was closer, I'd buy tht car n a heart beat!! I've owned a 98 deville and got 140,000 miles out of it and had to replace a few inexpensive parts then the fuel pump was going out and a few more things and had to trade it off. To this day, I miss tht car so bad. I'll own another cadillac one day. Hopefully soon tho
Big question is: why was it scrapped? Those north stars don't always smoke when the head gaskets lift off the block. When the head bolt holes in the block start to pull and blow coolant out of the overflow tank, it might not smoke. Not if its the very early stages but you said it didn't overheat so who knows. Power trunk thing is a common thing but I doubt it would be scrapped for that, it can be cranked back down to shut level and unplugged. Just would have to slam the trunk a bit harder. Yeah this is strange why it was scrapped.
nice car
Gotta be worth saving!
Probably cost more than it's worth to fix. Sometimes you just gotta let em go.
Lol that interia is nice. Seriously yes this interior is nice.
Even though that is not really a great car it's still sort of painful watching a perfectly good car being scraped
Do a video of that old 5 series next to it.
fuck sakes what a beautiful car, wish I had one,
That thing is sharp.
I saw the 99k miles before you made sure to tell us. I was like wow under 100,000 miles. wonder if they have the door panel at the junk yard for it. maybe that other car.
