    I started this semester very recently and I 100% agree on the material not being extremely difficult but rather the volume. When people said consistency and discipline, I don’t think I really took them that serious because I thought I was already “disciplined” but boy was I wrong. I guess it’s all part of the learning process.

      That’s exactly how I felt Fania! Lol. Part of this learning process is actually learning some of these skills like discipline in addition to all the medical related skills. All in all, it will be just as impactful for our practice as physicians 💪🏽

    Since I was a child I wanted to be a doctor, either a psychiatrist or a pediatrician. However, the length of the years of training and schooling, the amount of tuition, and the brutal years of residency steered me away from the goal. I got an MA in psychology but medicine is always on the back of my mind.

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  3 роки тому +1

      I’m glad this video was motivating for you! And unfortunately medical school is expensive. But the cost doesn’t have to stand in your way. The vast majority of students (including myself lol) take out loans to fund their medical school education. Don’t let the cost hold you back!

      @@EvolvingMedic I forgot we had student loans oops, was already overwhelmed by the thought of medical school. Thank you! And after I get a medical job, am I able to pay off within some years or more? I live in Michigan and I feel like medical school cost differs

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  3 роки тому +1

      I definitely understand! Costs can be crazy and super variable. But most students don’t end up worrying too much about the loans because you will be able to pay them off relatively quickly. This depends on things like the specialty you go into, how many loans you have, and if you’re able to live a bit below your means after medical school. But if you are adamant about being as financially responsible as you can, you’ll be able to pay off your loans quickly once your medical training is over. I hope this helps!

    • @bme7995
      @bme7995 3 роки тому +1

      @@EvolvingMedic I’m curious, what happens after we are done with medical training? What are the next steps?

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  3 роки тому

      There are 4 years of medical school and then you have residency in the specialty you want to go into (i.e. orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, etc.). The length of residency depends on the specialty, but range from 3-7 years. You are paid during this time though (just not as much as you’ll be paid after residency). After residency some people do an addition year or two of training (called a “fellowship”), but others end their training when their residency is over. Then you can go on to work (at a hospital, private practice, etc.) as an attending physician. You can see that it takes a lot of time lol. You officially become a doctor after medical school though. You just still have training in whatever specialty you want to do. I hope that that made sense!

I've heard some people say that the first year of med school is the hardest, so what's your opinion considering you're probably in your 3rd or 4th year now. • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  Рік тому

      I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’d say the transition to medical school is hard, so the first few months can be challenging. But overall, I think the third year (or whenever you begin your clerkships). It’s basically studying a similar amount to first/second year, but also having to work full time. And now that step 2 is more important than step 1, studying during clerkships is critical. It can just be challenging to balance.

    I had a traumatic event happen to me let’s just say the dentist tried to kill me 😂. A severe allergic reaction, lead me to question where I am now and my full potential. I started watching many premed/medical school student UA-cam videos. At 36 years old I’m considering going back to school for microbiology and immunology. I recently bought the mcat set of books just to read before I make any rash life-changing decision. To sum medical school up would you say it constant new material or more a build up of new and old material? Have you seen any older medical student at your school so far?

    I’m 16 and growing up I was really interested in becoming a doctor, until I got diagnosed with ADHD and my self esteem became low. I’m really bad at math but I love science and psychology and it comes easy to me. I’m also really interested in medicine in general and for the past 5 years, specifically psychiatry. I always knew I wanted to help people and I also am fascinated by the human mind and grew up with parents having mental illness and later myself was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. So naturally I thought psychiatry would be perfect since it involves all these things I’m so interested in. helping people is something I need to do as a career but the only thing is I don’t believe I’m smart enough for med school and I’m poor. Does anyone have any advice for me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

      Hi Nikki! Thank you for sharing your story! The thing about a career in medicine, is that the main thing that matters is that drive that you so clearly have. It’s more important than what you may perceive as natural intellect or money. Given your age, I would focus on doing the best you can in school and just building habits of a good student. And that can help you get into college (maybe with a scholarship!). And then the rest will fall in place. So I think just focusing on being the best student you can be now, is the best thing you can do!

      Hey! I’m so glad I saw this comment because I’m in the same boat. I was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and depression and im constantly comparing myself to my peers because my brain works differently and I feel like I have to play mind games with myself to focus and study. This is my first year at University and I also didn’t really have the funds until my therapist told me about a program called vocational rehab. We both qualify since adhd, anxiety, and depression qualify as disabilities for their program. I applied and they gave me a counselor who helps me manage my diagnoses. I also wanted to tell you about their program because they will pay for the entirety of your schooling if you can explain how your disability interferes with school and you can prove financial need.

      I know that exact same feeling! It’s okay to not know exactly where you’re going. When you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, you end up at exactly where you’re supposed to be. You’re going to be a great doctor one day!

    How chemistry-focused is med school? I'm non-traditional and only struggle with chemistry.

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  2 роки тому +1

      Very little honestly. There will be some principles that are chemistry related in biochem and pharmacology, but not to the micro-level focus that chemistry in undergrad is like. I didn’t like (or do well in) chemistry either! Lol

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  3 роки тому

      I have absolutely loved it! If you’re passionate about medicine and helping others you will too! It’s hard, but usually the things that are hard, but that I’m passionate about, are always the most fulfilling. I hope this helps!

    The people around you are not ‘geniuses’. This word is so overused, it’s lost its meaning. Newton was a genius, Wittgenstein was a genius, your mate who got 90% on their biomed exam is not a ‘genius’, they merely worked hard.

      It’s definitely not too late Jason! I’m only slightly younger (25). But I have a classmate turning 40 this year and many who are in there thirties. If it’s what you want to do, you can definitely do it!
