This is the first time I appreciate myself being an introvert. I don't usually feel miss out when I see posts like those on social media. I like spending time alone and I rarely go out with my friends. However, I do get anxious when I see posts about them studying and passing their exams. I feel like I should be doing something productive even though I already did something on that day.
Hey! Can u pls help me by sharing more of ur story? As an introvert, how did u overcome ur speaking skill in viva exam? Was that something u were struggling but got better day by day??
im an introvert too, i was always worried like "how will i communicate with patients successfully". im a 4th year but ive been to hopitals and i have talked and took history from patients and IM STILL ANXIOUS lmao, the thing that helped me the most was my university, the doctors target introverts and they'd always ask me questions they would tell me "its okay, i do not want to hear the correct answer, i just want to hear an answer", they'd make us make small presentations, they would encourage wrong answers more (weird i know but this boosted our confidence). we now yell out wrong answers with confidence 😂. but it helped, it helped us have no fear in speaking our thoughts aloud. its true im still afraid and scared and always worried about things that may never even happen, but you'll slowly find yourself always atleast considering volunteering. it took us 3-4 years!, but you do eventually make it. baby steps c:
I (5th year) feel like the non-medical friends part is the most important. To find a sports club/music club /church/poltical group with non-medics can do so much for your mental health and help you to keep going. (Only problem: often other studies are shorter, so your friends may leave and groups are changing over time)
Hi, I’m fifth year medical student And for me it wasn’t only a video of preparing yourself for medical studies but it helped me understand processes which i have to deal with every day. Even knowing it’s true and it’s not only my issue, for me it is very difficult to live in this society withount feeling discomfort. Well, mabye it’s high time to get used to it. Thank you for your video, it was very refreshing and heartworming
Outstanding vlog. Very well presented. Loved these points you made: (1) “on social media people tend to post the best part of their lives” - very true most of the time. It is easy to feel bad about one’s own life and career by seeing the seemingly wonderful life and career others seem to be having as seen on social media, but one needs to take everything one sees on social media in the right perspective (2) “after this after that” syndrome - very true. I have done this a lot for numerous years until I realized at one point that the best time to be with family and pursue hobbies is not “after this after that”, but now, as that “best time” may never arrive soon enough. (3)”it is a marathon and not a sprint”- wow, how true. Isn’t this also true about life itself!! (4)”its all about time management”- indeed yes! Time management is what most of us struggle with in life, isn’t it! (5)non-medic friends- great thought! We tend to have friends who are in our own professions or share our own thought process. It will be good to have friends with different thinking. The life partner part is debatable. Having a life partner from your own profession and with a similar background has both advantages and disadvantages. I have seen divorces happen in either case, so its all related to one’s own personal situation.(6)”there is a reason why medical school chose you”; “someone else’s success is not the absence of your success”- wow great comments to lift up anyone who is going through a bad phase…yes, we all have positives in life and there is a reason why an environment chose you (and you chose that environment). Though there have been times when I have been so de-motivated, as Zeliha alludes to, one needs to look at what one has and feel grateful.
I'm a second year medical student and I'm watching this during a most depressing time. Thank you so much for reminding me that I'm worthy enough to be here 😊
I´m not a med student, but i study science with embryology specialization. I´m finishing my last year a I feel unmotivated last few weeks. Your vlogs help me get though the hardest and get motivated again. I really admire you and your breathtaking dedication for studying medicine and becoming a doctor.
Felt related. I'm an entrepreneur at the same time I take care of a challenging job. It's the same thing for us with the FOMO thing. Beautiful that knowledge and support that was directed to other profile, actually felt perfectly into my profile. Kind of became general wisdom. At the end of the road, if my projects do well, I may look down at lot of people with a victorious feeling that they wasted their lives with closed mentalities, limiting beliefs and disgusting disrespect towards many creative activities, while I took risks and accomplished something special, that was my duty, but I'll never had that sort of thought towards doctors and professions that need medical school, because you sacrifice as much entrepreneurs do and you go through similar struggles.
Just entered med school as first year, your advices helped me a lot! The part abt comparison is hard to get through,I love your words:Someone else beauty is not the absence of our beauty, someone else success is not the absence for our success, these words just came in the right time, thank you!!! Appreciate your advices!
3rd year here and every day I'm so grateful my university's med faculty has such a balanced approach to medicine - they are constantly throwing us parties and social events as well as academic group events. I'm fortunate to not have felt like I had to choose between uni or youth. I like the part about non-medical friends! My partner is finishing his education degree and it's such a breath of fresh air having a break from med chat. Don't get me wrong, I love it so much! It's always so funny going to a stereotypical Gen Z house party where most of us are 19/20/21, but we're all med students so while the music is very much trendy house and club, we're all discussing cases and patients we saw in our hospitals 💀Balance is everything
