I don't know who runs C-470, (it's a separate entity), but the toll road on the Boulder Turnpike is run by a company based in Australia, which was awarded the contract without public input of any kind. That road was built and is maintained and improved using taxpayer dollars, so I wonder why a foreign entity was even allowed to bid for the contract?

If you buy gas and pay the road use tax then you get on a toll road and are paying to drive on it is there a form that you can send to the state to get your money back for road use. That is disastrous for many families. Because if you can’t pay it right away that 600 goes up to 1200. Luckily I have a DashCam and was able to prove that I was in the right. They don't even check... seems that the system just generates the ticket and no one vets that the incident merits a ticket. Im sure that if I didn't have my dash cam it would have turned out that I cannot prove it and would have had to pay the fine.
The other day I was heading East on I-70 out of Denver. There was an accident on the side of the road with tow truck, fire department and 4 cop cars blocking the lane. Everyone was forced to cross the double white line. I happened to be in the non toll lanee but was guessing everyone crossing those lines were going to get a ticket in a month. My dash cam only records about an hrs worth of footage before it loops. It doesn't have a button to save specific incidents so if I don't unplug it, the incident is gone before I get home from work.
Yet they have collected on 2/3 of the 40 million in fines that they ticketed...sounds like from your experience at LEAST 1/3 of those fines are FRAUD on their part. Maybe they should add a surcharge to make up for balance...lol
I live in Colorado and I got a toll notice about 6 months ago from the state of Oklahoma. I passed through the panhandle once, back in 1999. When I called their offices to get an explanation they told me the state of Colorado sometimes issues duplicate tags, but it was weird how the vehicle described in their notice was _exactly_ the same year, make, and model as mine.
So they use taxpayer dollars to pay for the highways and pay for the construction of these tolls and then they want us to pay more to use the toll roads 😂😂😂😂😂

The revenue from tolls are used to pay off the bonds that financed part of the cost of rebuilding the entirety of the project. The system to catch folks avoiding tolls replaces tolls that were lost by cheaters
What it looks like is the system is extremely sensitive and there is no one checking the system or any oversight, what they hope will happen is that you will get pay the bill.
As a NYer, I was thinking toll-weaving had to do with toll booths (boy, do we have them in spades here). If I understand your road design, those are express lanes and in order to drive in them, one has to pay the toll for doing so. Otherwise, you stay in the non-tolled lanes and just cruise on down the road. We have HOV lanes, so no tolls for them, but the same concept exists as to not crossing the double-white lines to go in or out of the HOV lane. I don't want to give any ideas to the various DOTs about using cameras for catching folks doing so, as we already have speed cameras and red-light cameras, not to mention the whole EZPASS tolling system for the bridges and tunnels. And our gov just kicked the congestion pricing tax down the road, so those cameras are not being used at the moment (all of us cynics here truly expect her to say Turn them on on Nov 6th). So how does one fight the bobbing and weaving camera tickets? Are there a few photos per summons that show you before, during, and after the crime? Our red light cameras do show the progression. Speed cameras we have to take them on faith.
the issue here is the crashes caused by people jumpping in and out without paying attention to large differences in speeds when people jump over at the point traffic backs up or going to/from a highway exit and the toll lanes crossing many lanes at once. we nearly got hit by on of those recently. the crashes are well documented

Fort Collins has a newish express lane on I25. People use the express lane like any other lane...crossing the big double white line as if it was a normal lane marker. They cross in, they cross out....at will whenever they want. Fine them and keep fining them. Ban all road tolls, though.
Safety improvements = more automated ticketing systems to raise money. Unless there is a link to the video showing the infraction, it shouldn’t be enforceable.
I have no sympathy for these folks. I constantly see people using it as a passing lane and making aggressive maneuvers in and out of it, particularly during periods of high traffic. People are definitely lying about it. Not to mention there was a massive grace period where they put signs all over and didn't enforce it, while only sending warnings. The signage is also very clear. Pleading ignorance isn't a valid strategy. People are just mad cause they thought they wouldn't get caught.

This reeks of being a money grab scenario. The state has created a bunch of slightly sketchy laws/rules around toll roads / toll lanes, and in doing so has created a “honey pot” trap for tickets. No doubt, the contractor that is responsible for issuing the tickets makes a nice little profit off each one they issue - so they have every incentive in the world to issue more of those tickets.
They make a big fuss about this event but totally ignore the many drivers with expired registrations (often 6 months or more). And then taxpayers paid for those lanes and get screwed to use them.
Every time I use the toll, there is some genius who's weaving in and out of the toll lane to pass traffic. Then there's other geniuses who get mad you're not doing 100 in the toll lane and pass you.

I received a toll charge from Colorado after returning from a vacation. I still have no idea where this toll road was. I do remember at least one toll road that I did pay for was very deceptive and confusing and I was barely able to get in the toll lane at the last second.

You can't get a ticket if your license plate isn't visible. The fine amounts are absurd, it could be a $10 fine and still have the same effect. The other issue is how this fine was legalized, CDOT signed away their rights to manage fines to a private company with the only rule being fines can't be over $250 dollars. There's no other public review of fines on those toll lanes.

I have to disagree about it not being unsafe. I was coming down out of the mountains using the toll lane. The other lanes were at a dead stop and I was in a long gentle curve when all of a sudden a car pulled into the lane right in front of me. Here I am doing the speed limit and this person was at a dead stop. I came very close to rear ending him. It is very unsafe.
Ditto that. It's no more dangerous to change lanes over double-white than to change lanes over dashed lines. I'm not saying that a dangerous lane change is OK, only that crossing double-white can be done just as safely as a legal lane change anywhere else. The only reason for the fine is to catch people for not properly entering toll lane at the correct locations. The fine should simply be the toll, or say double the tool (more than the toll to have some meaningful effect), rather than the crazy fines the private company charges. And no, I've never been fined for any of this, just stating my opinion on the matter.
If you go to court and make them produce the video evidence of the violation you will negate any money they are making from this crap. I plan to stay out of Colorado myself. You know they aren't the only state with mountains.
I just looked up the Colorado express way safety protocol and there is absolutely no reason to have double white line dotted anywhere other than to trick drivers into thinking it is okay to leave or enter at this point to generate a profit. If they take 6 months to send you a ticket you should have 6 months to pay without penalty.
Also might help if they put up signs saying photo enforced. Right now there is only notice of the fine.

Hmmm...company I work for got hit with a $250 ticket for a first offense on that specific vehicle. What happened there? I hope they challenged it. I don't disagree with the idea behind the ticket, I drive for a living and the roads are crazy, now I just wonder why it's was a different fine.

I saw today they are pouring new concrete at Wadsworth and 6 for Pedestrain crossings. Right next to it, is giant potholes. This must be what they mean by advancing safety on this video, not road maintenance. BTW, tonight I saw a wheelchair guy, paddling uphill on the exit of 6 west bound to wadsworth, I guess he doesnt have the safety improvements yet. Its OK for the gov to charge these fees, airlines fees, etc. I just cheat on my taxes like the rest of yall.

Fort Collins has a newish express lane on I25. People use the express lane like any other lane...crossing the big double white line as if it was a normal lane marker. They cross in, they cross out....at will whenever they want. Fine them and keep fining them.
Ban all road tolls, though.

I have no sympathy for these folks. I constantly see people using it as a passing lane and making aggressive maneuvers in and out of it, particularly during periods of high traffic. People are definitely lying about it. Not to mention there was a massive grace period where they put signs all over and didn't enforce it, while only sending warnings. The signage is also very clear. Pleading ignorance isn't a valid strategy. People are just mad cause they thought they wouldn't get caught.

This reeks of being a money grab scenario. The state has created a bunch of slightly sketchy laws/rules around toll roads / toll lanes, and in doing so has created a “honey pot” trap for tickets. No doubt, the contractor that is responsible for issuing the tickets makes a nice little profit off each one they issue - so they have every incentive in the world to issue more of those tickets.
They make a big fuss about this event but totally ignore the many drivers with expired registrations (often 6 months or more). And then taxpayers paid for those lanes and get screwed to use them.
So wait a minute -- you still get fined if you cross where there is a dashed line? That is counter-intuitive. (polite way of saying "deceptive")
Every time I use the toll, there is some genius who's weaving in and out of the toll lane to pass traffic. Then there's other geniuses who get mad you're not doing 100 in the toll lane and pass you.
Colorado and toll roads .... if you don't live there and are just visiting or driving through, probably just want to find another way around even if it takes longer.

Living in Texas, I remember when we had one toll road in the whole state. I made a vow then to never drive on a toll road unless there was no other way to get there. This convinces me that there is now another reason to stay the hell out of doped up, mountain fever migrant hugging Colorado!

I received a toll charge from Colorado after returning from a vacation. I still have no idea where this toll road was. I do remember at least one toll road that I did pay for was very deceptive and confusing and I was barely able to get in the toll lane at the last second.

You can't get a ticket if your license plate isn't visible. The fine amounts are absurd, it could be a $10 fine and still have the same effect. The other issue is how this fine was legalized, CDOT signed away their rights to manage fines to a private company with the only rule being fines can't be over $250 dollars. There's no other public review of fines on those toll lanes.
There is the problem the corporate terrorists who bribed the politicians to help them rob people. This goes over most people's heads and they can figure it out. Its good you are smart enough to understand the real problem here.

I have to disagree about it not being unsafe. I was coming down out of the mountains using the toll lane. The other lanes were at a dead stop and I was in a long gentle curve when all of a sudden a car pulled into the lane right in front of me. Here I am doing the speed limit and this person was at a dead stop. I came very close to rear ending him. It is very unsafe.
Ditto that. It's no more dangerous to change lanes over double-white than to change lanes over dashed lines. I'm not saying that a dangerous lane change is OK, only that crossing double-white can be done just as safely as a legal lane change anywhere else. The only reason for the fine is to catch people for not properly entering toll lane at the correct locations. The fine should simply be the toll, or say double the tool (more than the toll to have some meaningful effect), rather than the crazy fines the private company charges. And no, I've never been fined for any of this, just stating my opinion on the matter.

I just looked up the Colorado express way safety protocol and there is absolutely no reason to have double white line dotted anywhere other than to trick drivers into thinking it is okay to leave or enter at this point to generate a profit. People should sue. As far as I can tell they don’t even list a reason for it on the website.

They are not a law enforcement agency and any lawyer will tell you that this is true. They use those scare tactics to get you to pay but they are all bulshit. Whenever you see a letter from them, just toss it in your recycle bin.

Not paying *or* contesting the citation can cause a collections action which negatively affects a consumer's credit report *and* the State of Colorado will prevent the license plate from being renewed.
