- Legend Tells us that Louise Hathcock murdered a young sailor at the White Iris, beating him to death with a ball peen hammer as a young high school student Buford Pusser looked on.. The young sailor was Kenneth Wayne McCoy. Did This actually happen as Buford claimed or is it simply more legend and lies?

You men are tearing apart one of my childhood Heroes but I always wondered if all that was true just because you see it on TV or UA-cam does not make it true
You should realize there was nothing to tear apart as what you saw in the movie WALKING TALL was all smoke and mirrors to begin with. The story you know is an unsubstantiated version fueled by the fictional WALKING TALL movie franchise.

I grew up right next to the El Toro MC Air base. I loved watching all the fighter jets coming and going. when I was 14 I believe I spent 2 weeks there I suppose it was like a camp. I was a part of the Orange Country fire and California division of forestry (CDF) Explorers program. Some of the best memory's I hold and yes Jet fuel is very very warm Indeed when ignited. The Marines treated all of us kids so great and the food was out of this world. In those days they used us a lot for building fire breaks. i don't believe they do that today seeing all these fires there
Steve Adams I agree with you. Stories are told over and over past down and can change each time they’re told. Mr Elam talks to people of McNairy county that didn’t like Buford Pusser for arresting their family members or were jealous because of the movies and his legendary status. Mr Elam stated that not all records are even around in the courthouses anymore but he seem to want to use in some cases to make Buford out to be a phony by not able to obtain a record that was once recorded but don’t exist anymore. In the ambush no man is going to shoot him self in the face with a 30 caliber high powered rife blowing off his jaw. That’s just crazy to put out there. These people all are dead and there children are going to protect their fathers in crime (not speaking about the gentleman in this video for his story does pan out and his father was a remarkable man). My question to Mr Elam is why did you wait till all these people have died and can’t talk before you wrote your book? Maybe because everything has already been written more than once about Buford and you thought you would go a different direction to strike up interest.
You have guest on that say they talked with key figures that are now dead, but there’s no proof in those conversations. Such as the deputy that was there the night Buford killed Louise Hathcock. He’s told the same story countless time of what happened but a guest said that he told him he was going to tell the truth what really happened just before he died. He had 20 plus years to change his story and didn’t. No proof of the former deputy saying that. Don’t sound believable. W.R. Morris was supposed to have told he was going to write another book about what really happened and that Buford legacy was all lies but he didn’t Again no proof W.R. said that. This makes no sense at all. A successful author such as W.R. Morris admitting he falsely wrote a biography. Buford admitted to news reporter that the movie was Hollywood and not 100% accurate. And as people have stated that was a different world then and things were done differently than are done today. And people have to remember Buford only had a few deputies so he had to do what he had to do to survive and still get the job done. Maybe Mr Elam as a past deputy maybe you’re one of those jealous ones cause no one made a movie about you being a law enforcement officer.
Petite Plunk is the deputy I was referring to. Petite and W.R.Morris are both dead so it’s easy to fabricate a story you want to tell.
That is what Plunk and Morris would do. For instance in the Hathcock shooting, Peatie said there was a hole in her back big enough to stick a doorknob in. The exit wound that Plunk was referring to was actually under her right breast after Buford shot her in the back. Check out her autopsy report as I did. Seeing is believing. Morris would claim that the Hathcock's dumped bodies wholesale into the Tennessee River to dispose of them. REALLY? Where are all of the missing persons reports and reports of such bodies in the river if that were true? They were the one's fabricating stories and false legends. If the killing of Buford’s wife was some other than as told, how did bufford sustain his injuries? Are you suggesting he shot off his own jaw?
Buford was shot in the chin not the jaw. His face was never in a cast as was shown in the movie.

He is the only one to even remotely match the time frame. Jag Officers from the Navy even pursued the case against Toehead White. How many "Navy Guys" do you believe were allegedly killed at the state line joints? The point is that Buford lied about Louise Hathcock killing a sailor to embellish his legend. You can check it out with the navy as serious researchers do.

You say dispelled, I think that what you have is a misunderstanding from where somebody told somebody that told somebody and then told you. They may not have said it happened at that Stateline club they may have said it happened where Stateline club was built, right over there where Stateline club is they may have been telling a story after the club was there. And they may just have known he'd been hit in the head with something so they said a ball been hammer and it was actually a tire iron maybe. And who knows the lady might have been sitting in the backseat of the car all the time when he started to get out of the car and face her husband she just walloped him then they drove off and ran over his legs.
You're twisting everything that has been written to say it's not true. Just because peoples memories are not always accurate and they may embellish something a little so calling it a lie instead of misunderstanding the facts.
