As a student of music theory, composer, and audio engineer, I can confirm: this song is badass.
I'd really like to watch/read a complete breakdown of this and the other TWGOK OPs. I'm not an expert either but I always loved them, if only because of how unusual they are in the way they evolve through successive stages flowing like a story rather than following the usual repetitive structure of most songs. Some of my favourite bands - Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd - occasionally do that and it makes for some absolutely epic songs.
Hagane no Gijutsushi That's called progressive music, so you can look up progressive rock / metal and get similar stuff. :)
@@HaganeNoGijutsushi its usually known as prog rock
I guess some people don't know it means progressive
Which is fine
@@Zadamanim noice
I loved the first opening the most. It fits so well with telling the story about Keima's development of opening up to the world dealing with other people.
WalkingGirlKoi totally right 😆
Goddess arc is the second best
Freaking loved this anime. One of my faves. I was really sad when I heard the company went out of business. Would've loved for a conclusive series. :/
+Crazytaxi01 read the manga, it ended like 2 years ago :')
+Giovanni Mustica It didn't do the manga justice, but I wouldn't say it was terrible.
+Giovanni Mustica hey man, i read the manga ending a long time ago so i dont really remember it well, but could you please tell me why it was "super symbolic"? I'm bad at noticing symbolisms xD
I wish I had a girlfriend :( ..... so be able to accept the world we live in
Giovanni Mustica He never threw away his game consoles.
best show ever
oh look its you. where are my wow vídeos?!
Advent Of Sloth but didn’t just pick the most normal girl?
Ali Mohti You do not understand anime
Jia Jun Sim manga *
Ali Mohti Yes you do not understand manga either
You think 8 minutes is long?
The full opening for the third season is 13 minutes
TheNewKrookkud Holy god
Dear god
So, listening to both OPs would take 21 minutes? Amazing.
Too bad the song from second album "A Whole New World God Only Knows" and "A Brand New World God Only Knows" for second season just about 3 minutes and few second only....
I just played that on OSU!
and now I have pain in my arm.
Btw will be amazed if u reply after 3 years
Where most harem animes are just the MC fooling around with a bunch of beauties and enjoying romantic comedy, Keima's character was such a good character and a breath of fresh air. I felt most other harem MC were just a way for viewers to fit themselves inside story and fuel their imagination. But Keima's vibrant personality and character was such a great thing. It successfully shifted the focus from the girls to the MC whereas most other animes tend to focus on fan service or the girls' beauty
How did you know I'm rewatching this show? Are you magic?
I regularly go on reddit, actually
+Shilverow2 I'm rewatching too.. what the hell O:
+ZandWheet
What the HELL? XD
What the hell, I am rewatching it too!
It's obvious really. We are all rewatching it. Always.
It's *that* good...
I felt a personal connection to Keima throughout the whole series, which in turn made me see this as one of the best harem/romance series ever made. Seeing how you analyze the opening and go into every single detail just makes me love it even more. I missed most of the details in the op, as it went by pretty fast and I just wanted to get to the main episode.
The reason many people find this harem better than others of its kind is because it's unique. Keima did not actually care about the harem, neither was he interested in it and he always reached an ending legitimately.. unlike other harem protagonists who just start getting girls for no reason, whatsoever
Keima kinnie's rise
Time to rewatch this show for the 16th time
Only good harem I know of really
@@clayxros576 You should watch Shuffle, it's a Harem done right
@@frederickgrandison3609 You should watch Mushoku Tensei I like it very much but the anime is not done yet and Harem route is longer than God only knows.
@@dumplingcendawan9292 XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
HOLY SHIT THIS IS GOOD, VERY GOOD
I NEVER expected that much level of detail in anime openings, but you've opened my eyes to not just keeping an eye out for such things but actually paying attention to other more media like this.
FUCK
If I could subscribe harder than this, I totally would.
I love this show. The opening is the most extreme engrish I've heard
"YEAH I KNOW
WANNA SHOOT YOU WITH A FUCKING LLAMA"
Those words are what made me watch the show.
Kyle Williams well then you need to try putting your grasses on lmao
@@fortnitesexman lol
Look up the future diary opening.
Parasyte: *fools*
this is actually my most favourite anime of all time... i love everything about it.i get so emotional during the last season
I feel you my man! ;-;
I hate Chihiro so much~
Rew Rose same. I prefer Kanon
Chris Michael
Not same though( I prefer _harem_ )
Did you guys read the manga?
I get chills every time the "god only knows" part of the OP starts. Thanks for putting me on to this show.
TWGOK is probably my favourite harem anime, unless you count the Monogatari series as a harem.
yep
Monogatari is Harem, but the thing is 60% of araragi's Harem is loli.and he always want to lewd them....
"I can see the ending" is actually a double meaning catchphrase.
the obvious first meaning being that Keima can "See how to finish his conquest"
the second meaning is emphasised with the Buggy game and Sora's paintings... it means he literally gets to "see" the ending, expressing a desire for the "ending" itself, as apposed to the "route" to it.
That moment when he mentions the orb and you suddenly remember an important detail in the manga. Tbh, it feels like they somewhat were hoping for a season 4, but never got to it sadly.
I'm really sad there aren't any videos about this show other than this one and a bunch of reviews. I would watch the shit out of any more TWGOK anime analysis videos
Good to see the video back up. An awesome video and one of my favourite OP songs.
RIP Manglobe, this was my favroite show by you guys
Do TWGOK's third opening. Holy hell is that my favorite song.
The second op is my favorite
Same here. All of the openings are some of my favorite anime openings of all time, but the Third OP is one of my favorites songs.
i saw the anime 1 month ago, and today i found you, thank you very much for all the information about the opening, i really enjoyed the openings and loved the manga. I`m glad to see that a lot of people love this hidden jewel of anime as i do
Underrated anime IMO .
Secrets of the goddess would also be interesting as it is literal as far as being related to the plot
I absolutely love this!!Thank you for making this video. You have really made a valuable addition to the internet. Thanks!!!!!
That was an amazing analysis. I remember watching this a few years ago which got me to your channel. This OP was brilliant, one of my all time favorites if not, the best for me.
The part where you say "Did I mention how badass this music is" is my favorite part. Also, in the full version around that part it continues for so long and is so amazing.
"Written in engrish" I'm dying
love the OP (the things that appear are important for the series, the ghost, the capture bottle, the skull representing eli's squad, etc)
I really loved the series, but the end not so much, the axe or the editor that needed to rush things misplaced the last arc (just my opinion btw)
+Aldo Aldana not just your opinion, though it's hard to tell if it was a sudden axe rushing the finale or dragging the final arc too long. it just felt anticlimactic.
Zaruian yep, that's the problem with some mangakas, that they make really great series, but with the sudden popularity they drag the series and don't know how to end it well (like nisekoi, the series is make mostly of with filler episodes xD)
+Aldo Aldana I mean, I never fact checked this, but I heard that the mangaka was terminal or was getting to a point where he could no longer write, and that's why the series was so abruptly ended.
mbloome nope, they gave him some time to end the series, but he had a set time to finish the series, in fact, he has another manga going on weekly (nanoha yougashiten, a manga about some romance, comedy and cakes, the biggest love of this mangaka xD)
That you managed to begin the compositional analysis on the beginning chords of what's in the TV size was magnificent.
My man Geoff holding it down :) Great stuff man and we should talk again soon man one I get a nice roof over my head (sending this from my local cardboard box.
+HoldenReviews Holden, once you get a roof over your head, is it time for a review?:D
Arthur Torres Yeah, probably.
I really love that cut of the galge characters holding their arms out to them as angels
The first time I crossed paths with this anime, and precisely with the full opening, I was marveled in a way no other opening had made me. I was hoping you had covered the grandiose 3rd one, Secret of the Goddes, the last part is a heavenly dramatic clousure, and a godly intro to it as well, and that's without mentioning the op video itself. Or at least the second one, wich is rather short, both video and music, but no less enjoyable.
Hope you find the time to make them. Cheers!
yooo its 2022 who else rewatching this masterpiece and listening to the OP
Another great video to brighten my day. Great Job Geoff! can't wait for the next video! and though im not currently on Patreon due to debt and the such, once I'm in the black again I won't hesitate to give you the support you clearly deserve!
Man, I had totally forgotten about this opening. I guess it's because I didn't really watch the anime for this series so much as I read the manga. Gotta say, it's one of the few (if not the only) harem series that I actually like. Mainly because of the fact that he actually picks someone by the end, but also because I personally think his choice makes sense. And the characters don't bore me to death. I'm glad I watched this video though, because I actually really liked this opening song.
I didn't expect that depth of analysis out of an anime's OP, now I want to rewatch the shit.
Nice to have someone confirm all my biases.
You've already hit 2 of my top 5 favorite OPs between this and Again from FMA: Brotherhood. Thanks for that.
I love the manga. The swimmer episode is one of my favorites. Might watch the manga now.
cyncynshop *read
I'll read the anime
Watch it,the manga has different route than s3
Sometimes when I watch God only knows before going to sleep, I realize that I'm going to get more sleep by skipping the intro, but I still watch it because it's so phenomenal
Watched 4 vids from you and I already love you
THANK YOU!!!!!!! You're the reason I started watching the show and I wasn't disappointed!
Hahaha man I remember hanging out and watching this with you quite a while ago now. Solid as usual!
For a while I thought the shot of Keima walking with the backgrounds changing was to show how fast he went through his galge games but honestly your interpretation makes a lot more sense, just started watching your vids with this one as my first and already love what I see and here~
I love this show, or rather the manga the show is based off, and that love extends to the show
Whenever Geoff makes a video about a show I like, I am instantly torn between finishing watching his video or going and rewatching the show in question immediaty
YAAAAASSSSSS, I've been waiting on this for two weeks.
Hey Geoff! Great video once again, expected only greatness and that's what I got! Are you going to analyse the new JoJo opening once Diamond is Unbreakable releases in April? Or are you going to wait for the second opening to analyse both of them?
there is no way I'll be able to wait until both seasons are out.
+Mother's Basement you gotta do the Erased Op or Ed
One of my favorite anime, I wish you would talk about it at some point
I feel the need to rewatch this series again, thanks a lot!! :)
I've never given much thought to the opening in any anime... Just hearing the song, and passing on.
That's an awesome decoding of what the opening represents, and being a fan of this anime... Yeah, seems like it symbolically delivered the entire anime to you in one go, and then you proceed to see exactly that, but in greater detail.
That has been cool :D
I'm not sure why, but the world God only knows is really special to me and when I saw that you made a video about th opening I cried. Ah
Great video! I'd be very excited to see future analysis of TWGOK OPs because they are some of my favourite music + animation combinations for OPs. Season 2 is interesting because they bundled two songs together when they sold the OP on CD. , "A Brand New World God Only Knows" and "A Whole New World God Only Knows" (the actual OP), which feature the same singers, but different music and a few shared lines ("So what if I (sing off-key)/(am a freak), who cares"). Also anytime there's a mention of "knight" it's probably a reference to Keima, because in Japanese his name is also the name for the Knight piece in shogi (it was a plot point in the manga).
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making this video.
I loved this anime...I was reading it when I heard it was being turned into an anime. The opening was so cool!
I remember when I found that "kami nomi" would get an anime I was so happy...but when I watched the op I inmediatly fall in love with it...I didn´t care it was 8 min long, not at all...it couldn´t be better...
Nice video, you really thought it through and now I like this opening even more.
:)
I also thought that these (i forgot how its called) electronical lines at the beginning of the opening represent the different routes which exist in a dating game. He always searches for the right route and therefore these lines looked just like it.
Would you do TWGOK's 2nd or 3rd OP? Not many to explain reasons since you love this show too, you gotta love making a video about these two.
I am currently rewatching the series and got this vid on my recommendation.
The World God Only Knows is such a gem, a pure classic.
This dude minmaxed his way through life.
This song is amazing
Awesome. Can't wait for that NHK "What's in a scene" episode.
I'm so happy that finally someone saying how adorable that music is!)))
Got to thank you for this. Second opening that actually gave me goosebumps. I love it.
An amazing opening for an amazing anime! It's a shame that we'll never get another season though. The later half of the manga, in my opinion, had some of the best story arcs of the series.
One of my favourite anime.
And Chihiro is the best girl.
Ayumi is
@@zumbve yep but chihiro is best for keima
I have listened to this song multiple times, all the way through in one sitting. It's hard to stop listening to good music.
I have watched the OP so many times and when it was mentioned the credits was the first time I noticed them getting smashed apart by the icon. Make it even better!
He actually emphasized my favorite part of the op yassss
Great video, Geoff! I really enjoyed it.
I stumbled upon your channel, and I appreciate the analysis in both this video and SAO.
What's in an OP seems to be a great series from the two videos I watched. Do you have any ideas for similar series you can make? At the present, I am very interested in seeing this series continue.
Subscribed!
+ShinjiHirako777 I also have what's in a scene - where I analyze individual scenes - and what's in a game, where I break down things like game levels. But I'm constantly working to come up with new concepts for series.
+Mother's Basement I found it and enjoyed it. Thanks!
Oh God, analyse other seasons openings too! Please! I love this anime!
I like this song, a lot!
Great video!!!
i love this op... great video mate
man... I love this channel lol
I rewatched the show a few days ago,and I'm glad I found this vid.
I would love you even more than I do if you could do a video on the openings of the other two seasons
First video lve seen loved it subbed
Have you looked at To Love Ru's openings?
The first season had a great combination of using credits in the objects of what the opening uses, the extreme close ups of the credits is a nice addition to it.
One of my favorite animes here 😊
Just noticed this is one of the ops that cycle back. It starts with the pfp turning on and ends with it turning off (both using the "screen turns on/off" effect)
Having a hard time paying attention since I like to sing the song
You know you really should do the Sakamichi op with how much i see it pop up in other videos of yours. I'd love to see it personally!
Seriously best analysis
This music was always melodically to me and sometimes it and the other op brought a tear to the eye.
Thank you for this video. I absolutely love the world god only knows!
I didn't know the OP was this deep. Great video.
-turns up volume to hear background music.
-he blares the music 5 minutes in.
-my ears!
I never actually noticed the bg stuff in the walking scene. That's pretty cool.
Woah you covered this surprised to finally see it
Excellent. Amazing. Makes me want to rewatch 'World only God Knows'
3:07 it might be worth noting how you move towards a route, but on the last junction you move away from the symbol instead of moving into it. this might possible symbolise him not wanting to follow through or get caught up in that route, and instead go to the next route/mission.
you have really made me pay more attention into an OP of an anime although most of them i see is just not really meaningfull i think. But it kind of attracts me to still look at the "easter eggs" in the OP's. Keep up the work : )
Hopping in here from 2020. Re-watched the whole series, loved it again. Gut punched again.
I absolutely love this song and opening
Its one of those thats rare and so near perfection
I really like this channel
I pray to Keima that those patreons vote for Nichijou.
I looooove this series and I love this video
this was a good video, I haven't seen the anime yet, but now it's in my queue.
I do have a question for you though.
A lot of your recent videos have had some amount of clock gears being prominent in the OPs (this one and JoJo), are you thinking of maybe doing Stein;Gate in the near future? (heheh)
An OP that kinda stuck in my head is the one to the Tower of Druaga series, it also does the whole integrated credits idea, but it throws in the interesting idea of showing the Fantasy characters in a slice of life setting, and shows their relationships through that.
have you ever seen that one, and if so, have you considered doing it?
This anime was one of my first animes ever, I really missed a lot of details in the opening (and probably in the show as well).
Looks like it’s time to rewatch this.
Will we get a "What's in an OP" for Plastic Memories or Kyousougiga?
Please? T-T
As a student of film I love your analysis videos. Keep up the grade A work :3
Please also do the 2nd and 3rd OP. I'd love to see how you breakdown the 2 sided 2nd OP and the story/prayer-centric 3rd OP
