Thank you for posting this! I love that you showed your "fails" too. I feel like they happen to me everyday and I was nice to see an expert like yourself fail every now and then.
My husband bought the Cricut Air Explorer 2 for me on my birthday in October of this year so I am still in the learning process. I have learned so much from watching your tutorials. You are very creative! Thanks so much!
I was so excited to see this I tried one straight away. I used stick paper, kraft board and I put a self adhesive laminator sheet over it. it turned out absolutely fantastic. You are a legend Jennifer. I have one xmas present done already. Thank you so much and God bless.
So glad I found your you tube channel Jennifer. I just got my Explore Air 2 and can't wait to try these projects. I was just thinking if you stuck your picture on the brown side of the cereal box, you would have a double puzzle.
I LOVE this idea! Thank your for this tutorial. I would have never thought to make a puzzle using the Cricut! Thinking I will make some for Christmas for grandparents with kids pictures. :)
I recently designed my niece her very own My little pony character ( to her & her mommy's very specific requests ) for her 4th Bday in October. I think a puzzle with her Pumpkin spice pony would make a great christmas present.
Thank you for another great video. I love that you show what doesnt work so we don't have to waste materials experimenting. I am learning sooo much from you! I can't wait to get started on some of these!
Ugh! The Cricut sticker paper will not go through my printer so I used printable vinyl - had a nightmare of a time getting it on the Kraft Board (a few mess-ups) but in the end, it worked! Thank you for an excellent tutorial!
@@eboneyrach Very carefully as it wants to stick - really stick. I made it "taco" shaped so the middle of the vinyl is the bottom of the "taco" and slowly lay it down on the middle of the Kraft board and smoothed out from the middle.
Thank-you Jennifer! Full of great tips and ideas. Thanks for the breakdown on the chip boards. Looking forward to tomorrow because I haven't done any wood projects yet.
First puzzle on my maker, using Cricut brand sticker paper and a cereal box was a fail. Some pieces did not cut all the way through, and the sticker paper seemed to cause problems. Second try I used Cricut printable vinyl and Cricut kraftboard and it worked a charm! I may try a third time using printable vinyl and cereal box. Thanks Jennifer!
Wow I love love this thank you Jennifer!!! I will be making some of these for xmas presents. I love your lessons you are so enjoyable to watch and everything I make from your tuts comes out well. Thankyou!!
Thank You Jennifer. Again your name was given credit in my group. I'm going to try using the Kraftboard as I had some and had no idea what to do with it. I had purchased it to make earrings.
Gosh, you just added another obsession for me to do 😂❤️ What type of kraftboard did you use? I would have to buy, since we’re not a household that eat cereal 😂
I absolutely love you!!! Thank you. Thank you for showing us the possibilities with the cnc machines. I don't even own a cricut, but watch you anyway!! It would be amazing if I could use your files for the silhouette (I have two of those). Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and let you know how much I appreciate you and everything that you do!! 🤗
I love all of your videos, I'm a huge fan! Also excited about the giveaway ❣ You're such a kind woman. Thank you for giving away all the secrets most people won't share.
Hi Jennifer. love your tutorials. I have tried this twice with the cereal box. Both times it cut in different places on different runs. I had pieces that were at least 1/4” off. I also could not get it to come off the mat without destroying the pieces. This was supposed to be presents for our Christmas party and I’m so discouraged. I’ve calibrated and recalibrated thinking I missed a step somewhere. Thank you
Sorry we're just getting back to you on this, but sometimes if it seems like it's not cutting all the way through, keep your project on your mat and loaded in your machine, and push the 'c' again. This will re-cut the image. But if you're having a problem with it mis-cutting, it's probably best to call Cricut and see if there's a fix. :)
You are such an excellent teacher. Thanks for sharing this info. I REALLY want to try my hand at making puzzles. I have a cricut explore air 2, I've been saving cereal boxes to practice with, the only thing I don't have is sticker paper and chipboard. :-( I am so ready to try...
Hi and thanks for the tutorial. I am trying to make a puzzle for my twin nieces but I do not have the "cereal" material in my custom materials. I believe I am up to date with design space but the closest thing I have is Light Chipboard in either 0.37 or 0.55. Which would you suggest and would you still put it on 3x cutting with the deep cup blade? Any help you could offer would be great! Your tutorials are always very helpful and straight forward. Thanks!!
I see the Cereal box material setting on my Maker, not my Explore, so that explains that. On my Maker, the Cereal box settings are pressure of 248, cut 3x, deep-cut blade. So either make a new custom material setting for yourself with these settings, or try the light chipboard at .55. I recommend you do a test on a scrap piece of material before you try it with your good materials.
When using a cereal box, do the puzzle pieces seem to be too flimsy or not strong enough to hold up over time? Great video my wife and I use your tips on several things. Awesome!
How do I use my own imagine (not a heart but a different little imagine instead)? I want to make a special little image additive for my nephew for Christmas and am working on it as we speak but I can't seem to figure out how to make my own Imagine a part of the cut/its own little puzzle piece. :-( I am still new at this and you have been my god send. This is literally my first project (outside of a simple letter cut). You're AMAZING!!! thank you so much for what you do
I’m confused! 😆 First of all… FANTASTIC video, thank you! I’m confused about the photo. You’re sizing it on your Cricut software so how do you print it that same size to put on your cereal board?
I just love the puzzles! Going to make some for my grandchildren. I also have a HP printer. I have Cricut printable vinyl. What printer material setting should I use to print the photo and can I use the knife blade with the cereal box?
Hi, I was excited to make this and I did. Turned out great! I just have one problem, the pieces are a bit to small for a 2 year old's fingers. I know you said to not resize the puzzle and I understand why. I have tried to figure out how to change the size so the pieces are larger without any luck. Can you help me out? Same size puzzle just double the size of the pieces? This puzzle is for a special little 2 year old who was adopted from China in 2019. I want to take the photos of her in China and make them puzzle. She will delight in put them together to see that it's her. Thank you for your help and your videos! They have helped teach me how to use my new machine.
Sadly, these puzzles are not meant for little ones. That is a great idea, though! Would you suggest it for me so I can remember? You can request it here: jennifermaker.com/projectrequests/
I just tried this and while I LOVED how clear your directions were, I'm really sad that the blade almost cut completely through my mat! It's a brand new blade and a brand new mat. Obviously, I need to make an adjustment. Should I reduce the pressure or the number of times it cuts? Thanks!
What I have discovered is that the Cricut Maker Knife-blade does not work well with cuts that have smaller than .5 inches squared gaps at any given location. The knife-blade appears to me to have a difficult time maneuvering in such tight gaps, especially more so with contour lines that have sharp curvatures to them; such as the puzzle pieces that have the loops on the thick chipboard. A good learning moment for me too was to realize that the Cricut Maker Knife-blade was only good on softer woods, such as balsa, basswood, and yes, even chipboard that is less than 2 mm thick. I have not tried out leather, but since leather is more softer (generally) than wood, I would think that 2 mm thickness would be the limit for cutting it with the Cricut Maker Knife-Blade too. In short, I think that if you can increase the puzzle pieces dimension sizes, and lessen the number of pieces that you can cut your sunflower art pieces better, while still keeping the overall puzzle project's dimension sizes. I think that the puzzle that you have there is approximately a 70-piece puzzle. Maybe a 25-piece puzzle might be more effective for cutting in thick Cricut Maker Chipboard? I also tend to brush on a small layer of white glue between my print-out and my choice of card stock too. Doing so causes a stronger bond between say a sticker paper and the card stock that I am working with, and lessening the chance of peeling during the cutting process. One just has to keep in mind that the glue does add a bit of a layer to the thickness of the material, and you have to compensate cutting pressure and possibly the time of passes on the Cricut Maker. For me personally, it's been trial and error, but boy do I have tons of fun doing my projects! Thank you for sharing your video. It gave me a few ideas to test and work with using my own Cricut Maker soon! :)
Thank you for sharing your templates. I tried this on the Cricut Venture but the blade did not cut through the cereal box cardboard? Do I need a special blade? Thank you.
Sorry if i missed it in the video, is there a way to prevent the Cricut from tearing up the image while cutting the puzzle? It mainly happened on the knobs of the puzzle pieces.
Hi Jennifer, this is amazing thanks for sharing. I have the Cricut Explorer three. I used the cereail box both times. One I used sticker paper the other I used printable vinyl. I have the deep cut blade. I followed your directions exactly but it doesnt cut all the way through. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do ?
Use the Deep-cut blade (for light chipboard) or regular fine-point blade (for Kraft board) and choose more pressure. jennifermaker.com/make-picture-puzzles-cricut/
Can we use Modpoge to seal the sticker design in, and should we do it before we cut or should we paint each individual piece with Modpoge when it's off the mat
So where did the thick black outline come from? Evidently calibration marks. But you didn't show it on the original photo image or in the puzzle image. What if a person created their own artwork=painting, drawing, mixed media, etc on the chipboard. Can you then put it onto the gripper mat?
Thank you for posting this! I love that you showed your "fails" too. I feel like they happen to me everyday and I was nice to see an expert like yourself fail every now and then.
