Also, I use one gun pod as I get quite a few of the kills with the gun. In real life those were always carried in pairs though. The aircraft were often in four or maybe eight strong formations. So one or two could carry the flare and chaff dispenser along with a jamming pod on the other side. The gun pod was really for ground attack too but there was a switch that tilted it, kinda, for anti-air. For when AJ squadrons might help out to annihilate Russian airborne formation fleets.. m/55 or ADEn are a little low in the muzzle velocity department at this pount. But the JAs gun, oh my fucking God.. it has 6 or 7 the kinetic energy pershell of that ADEn one.. Was also radar guided and helped by the auto pilot. Very accurate gun and the most powerful gun put into a fighter..
Yea I like the AJ37 More than the AJS37 just because I think the current Br for it make its less fun to fly but being able to take 2 R-74s and 2 RBJ24s and 2 gun pods is nice, however you sacrifice flares its hard to fine a good balance for me to be honest with that plane on what to take. Also you sure know a lot about these planes haha!

Well, only been two days with RB 74s but.. ;) Hehe, I have read up over quite a few years. Viggens (and P-47s) are my fav aircraft - both irl, here and to model so.. There is alot of unique things about the Viggen, many firsts.. And like Israeli stuff, Sweden have alot of good stuff. But they don´t shine in War thunder as they are made for very specific needs. they did REAL good in real life - but it doesn´t translate to WT necessarily..
This is a 11.3 plane with 9.7 armament. It's performance is top notch. Radar has pd and tws. I do gun on left wing, flares on right, 2 missles plus drop tank. Guns are hard but it comes in handy at close range. Drop tank is usually dropped before I get even close to combat, and you still beat everyone there. Use ACM for missles especially at 1k. They typically become flare resistant if you use the acm that close. Boom and zoom baby.

My fav plane.. Flown it quite a bit but started to fly the AJS the other day.. Took me long enough.. I grew up watching these (and J 35Js) fly over my head. Well, mostly I saw AJSs but.. Same airframes. It has really good performace, as it did in real life. I think that is its best assest. Not too many weapons - a downside. But the AJ was an attacker designed to launch RB 04Es mainly. Not many weapons were carried over from its predecessor - the A 32A. SAAB offered more options but Flygvapnet declined. All but the RB 04Es were secondary. Rockets and small bombs for stuff like ammo dumbs, trucks etc. It was even deemed unnecessary to use the old, bigger bombs, better to have more, smaller for that purpose - and there they were probably right. The RB 05A and the RB 75 that quickly, replaced it really, were for other shipping mainly. Closer to the coast kinda, in archipelagos. The RB 05A also got that VT fuze so it could be used against helicopters and Russian troop carrying aircraft.. As the AJ´s role also had the secondary interceptor role. For stuff like that or bombers. (At the time of introduction it was J 35s that were the Swe fighters, JAs came from 1980 and onwards) I like it in game. I love chasing down stuff like F-104s.. :) Or just outturn everything, even if I bleed my speed. It is pure joy to fly. i can live with the weak weaponry.. There were more weapon stations. Those outer ones were not activated on the AJs until the AJS upgrade. They were supposed to have RB 27 or 28 (Falcons with IR homing) but the spool up time was too long so they skipped it and did not activate it untilt the AJS upgrade for some reason.. And there is another position where the JA have its flares. In theory the AJ could carry much more. But again - the RB 04E was the main job for it. And a small country with limited budget... it is quite astounding that it was made and with the is performance..
I do take the drop tank now that it is there. As it is the look I am used to.. (I also build models and have built a couple of Viggens). usually i go with 30 mins plus the drop tank these days. I can always punch it if needed. Why it has it is partially because SAAB made the Viggen a bit different but than the specs were changed with the engine and stuff, which forced SAAB to make it shorter and move the gear, removing spacve for fuel. It was much longer before that.. And the engine, not that thirsty without afterburner, was MORE thirsty with afterburner than they had counted on.. The reason for that engine was fuel economy for one thing.. But you go through the fuel in about 8 mins with full afterburner.... All of it. But then you have some speed during that ti ;)me.

With the BR, it will mostly see battles filled with A10s, Su25s, F5Cs and similar, so chaffs are not needed all that much. My friend wants to go Sweden, and is looking for t7 grinder. So we were debating what would be the best option. Talismaning AJ37, talismaning JA37C or buying J35XS. Is talismaning AJ37 the way to go in your opinion? Cheers. I mean i heard the j35xs is really good but tbh you could bomb so many bases in the Aj37 and you are so fast. Like how i played it one point was go bomb a base immediately rtb and depending on how many enemy’s are left you either take bombs again or equip yourself with the weapons to take them out. It’s also 10.3 so not a bad br. But Ja37C is also really good so it’s hard to say which is better for talisman but the safe easier option I think is the AJ37 for the tails man for me at least you will just simply die less at that br.
