it's just a waste of time and money!(the good looking culture).when I first got into the k culture I was like that! I have to be beautiful,I should not go outside since it is so sunny, always putting on makeup thinking people won't like me! actually I was so wrong. the good looking culture is a never ending process it will never make u happy.
we all live once so think its important to invest the money in important Areas(,like science research, global education, poverty etc) just look at zuckerberg, bill gates.I've never seen them wearing fancy dresses .but people respect them because they r solving the world problems.
I am not even korean, but after getting into kpop / kdrama, i have actualy started paying more attention to how i look, the condition of my skin, the clothes i wear, etc. Initially, i did not realise it( first 2 years.) one day while i was doing the oil cleanse, i started thinking if i would be doing this if i never got into korean culture? obviously, i try not to get affected by the beauty standard of any kind, (no one should) but some things do get stuck in your head. The media is indeed a very powerful brain washing tool.
hold up This happened to me too. I started taking better care of my skin after getting into Kdrama and starting to learn the language. I don't see anything wrong with improved grooming habits. And to be completely honest, I don't think there is anything wrong with taking care of yourself as a result of watching people that take care of themselves. For me, the problem starts when people try to change/alter their features to conform to a certain standard of beauty because society has made them feel like their God given looks/features are not good enough. That's when things go overboard. No one else should make you feel like the face/body you were born with is inferior because it doesn't look like theirs or their idea of beauty. I just want everyone one to know that they are their own standard of beauty and being the best version of themselves is so much more valuable that trying to look like someone else. Oh gosh 🙈didn't mean to write this much. 😔
This is happening to me too! When I first got into Kpop, I didn't really pay attention to how I look, but these days, when I look in the mirror, I'm like, 'oh my god, why is my head so big, or like why is my shoulder so wide?' or 'why is my skin so bad' etc so it's definitely toxic :(
It's interesting when they keep saying getting plastic surgery is a personal choice and shouldn't be judged. But isn't the reason for getting plastic surgery because they were being judged on their looks?
I agree with you 100%. Somebody who is satisfied with their looks wouldn't get plastic surgery. And why aren't they satistied with themselves? Because of beauty standards and the need to be loved by others. Everybody keeps saying that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...but beauty is very objective and influenced by media.
We shouldnt judge their personal opinion, they have the money, so they do it. Its usallu people who wants to fit in. Like ppl with jaw problem like me. I have gone through alot, but from some research, i heard that in korea, looks are EVERYTHING, ppl get judge in korea if they dont have small slim face, small lips, and bridged nose. But also ppl shouldn't say korea is the country of plastic surgery, or that they are hypocrites and beautifull wannabe, im tryin to say that america does it too, just look at the breast enlargements and butt enlargements, at,east korean arent going that far.😂
Koreans were naturally soft and always tryna be soft in casual conversations. They used to soften their tone so they won't hurt others feelings and that's what i really love about them.
You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned an "arbitrary beauty standard". I think plastic surgery is a personal choice but the question is who is deciding what is considered beautiful? For instance why do many Koreans think they have to get double eyelid surgery? Who decided that was more beautiful? If an inherent trait of any race has to be erased in order for someone to be considered to be attractive - then that is truly sad.
Awhol LOtta Whopass I mean that people would naturally find it attractive even without media brainwashing people since big eyes makes someone look young, cute and innocent. Looking young is considered a good thing & it's desirable. Double eyelid just makes eyes look big compare to monolid eyes.
Yonji Lim unfortunately you are right, and I find it so sad that something that's an inherent and beautiful part of being Korean like mono lids, as an example, is being "erased" simply because someone has been influenced to believe it is not attractive. I'm sure that's not always the reason someone opts for plastic surgery but it is probably one of the more common things that play into it. I'm half Asian - predominately Korean and grew up wishing my eyes looked more "Asian" because I thought that would be prettier. I guess we are all influenced to some degree into thinking that what someone else has is better than what we have...human nature I suppose.
AyAReI00 generally they prefer double eyelid but sometimes they like monolid. The only time they like monolid is if it's a handsome guy with monolid(if he has nice nose, jawline and other features & it goes well with his monolid), they rarely think a girl with monolid is pretty(even if she has beautiful nose, lips and jaw. the standard of beauty for men & women is different) and/or if the monolid eyes is big, because those exist where a person has no double eyelid but their monolid eyes are still big. Asians think those eyes are also pretty so there is some exception but generally double eyelid > monolid.
👏👏👏👏 So true. I mean there is much more than physical appearance.. like at the end one day we all will get old nd the beauty will go away.. Like im into kpop nd i love it but sometimes i feel bad because everyone is just about looks looks
Sure , ' every country is obsessed with physical appearance ' but not so much as to put societal pressure on each and everyone of their citizens to undergo surgery which permanently alter their faces . Hell , even in some fields where ' physical appearances ' shouldn't ever be a problem IS a problem in Korea . Yeah , koreans sure are ' honest ' . pfft
Even Bapmoka and Haeppy said foreigners are blowing the Korean lookism out of proportion. Clearly OP and robert lee are kyopos. They like to undermine every single part of Korean culture because they're cool and live overseas. They often misunderstand Korean culture because they've never experienced it and are quick to criticize with their eurocentric lens. People only see Korea through pop culture, that's the main issue.
I think it's quite sad that most of them are aware of the social pressures to conform but can do nothing but to accept it. Imagine being rejected for a job that you're qualified for just because your looks aren't up to par, what a loss of potential that would be. This whole culture of lookism in Asia needs a replacement by something spiritual instead of promoting superficiality that turn their faces beautiful but their souls grotesque.
it's not just asia... let's not forget that american girls spend an hour every day doing hair and makeup. if you just look at the prices of makeup, youd understand that people are obsessed with looks in all countries
wujing吴晶 Yeah right on the money. It is really not worth it. Personally I believe most of the women are already beautiful. Inner beauty / outer beauty is just rubbish Unless with a serious genetic deformity, like stiff jaws, cleft lip and facial injuries, most people are already beautiful
I think that if you feel plastic surgery is what you want to do, that is great. No one should criticise you for making that choice, but I think it is completely fair for someone to question or criticise what it is in society that may have brought someone to either questioning their looks on a personal level, or questioning if their looks are enough to get them far in an industry where looks shouldn't be important. I'm glad I live in a society that doesn't have that pressure put on me. I feel plastic surgery should only ever be a personal choice. When it comes to doing it to improve job prospects, it shows companies are putting beauty above actual talent and skill in the workplace. It completely goes against those that actually wouldn't want to have plastic surgery. That choice they make could be the difference between living on minimum wage, and living a comfortable life. That's not right in my opinion. I think that if some countries like Korea didn't have the competitive and rigorous education system that it does have, where everyone ends up having similar skills and qualifications, then this might not even be a thing. They've passed the point of requiring those with the correct skill, and now want to create a utopia of homogeneous beauty based on only one type of ideal.
Appearance is an asset if one sees it as one. The root of the problem is not the values of materialism (such is the physical world we live), but rather like you said, the homogeneity. Having nearly the exact same skills and qualifications. The same old resume format. The same old university application letter. The same old career goals. The same old beauty standards. The same old family values. You'd wonder why everyone is so competitive about nearly everything in life.. With the acknowledgement of this extreme sense of homogeneity, the plastic surgery phenomenon is totally understandable, at least for me. I see it as a dystopian phenomenon. But it is not so much the root of dystopia since homogeneity is a part of the Korean identity and can be generally interpreted as a strength in its own right. But with strengths comes with weaknesses.
Figureight No one would put themselves under the knife for aesthetic reasons unless affected by society standards and media pressure at a level!! So at any circumstance, even if appeared as a "personal choice", society and media is at question. The problem with S. Korea that the society and media are more pressuring than others. Because of the materialistic, superficial and competitive mentality that manifest the society, it created a standard. And this standard is being promoted by media and entertainment industry. It's a non ending ugly cycle.
That last lady's comment was a double edge sword. She says people don't have a right to judge others for getting plastic surgery, but it's that same judgement that are sending people to the surgeons. How about ignoring all judgement? Good video.
there are people who have self-esteem and yet want to have plastic surgery. You are the one who believes that those who undergo surgery care what others say ...
@@abi1 Although it may read as if that is what I'm implying, but it's not. Sure there are some who get plastic surgery caring nothing about what others think of them, I was just referring to the ones that do.
@@ravengrey8891 Koreans don't think much of looks of foreigners they only act like this to ourselves. If you're a foreigner japan will be worse because they are obsessed with their own nationality and tend to ignore others which is why they barely accept immigrants
@@RAMPYCSM when they have children those kids would inherit their parents features right...so doesn't ot affect children growing up..? When people ask them why they don't look like their parents?
Korean : foreigners exaggerate the issue of koreans having plastic surgery. Also korean : we get double eyelids surgery after high school to look good in college. Me :......
It's already happening. Most female idols in the kpop industry look soo similar. Most of them have that same V- shaped jawline, small faces, small nose and double eyelids.
So true. This why most of the non kpop fans say that they all look similar..you can't even say who is who.. This was a problem for me at first..but it gradually diminished.
It still baffles me how they like small faces so much. I find some of their celebs with small faces look weird since their faces aren't proportionate with their body like a really tall person w/ long limbs and a very small face. >
@above True. Most ppl who say "small face" doesn't actually literally mean smaller than the proportionate size. It actually means more or less the normal size in contrast with larger-than-normal faces. Those who prefer disproportionately small faces like the female Sudden Attack chars just have a quirk or have a twisted sense of beauty due to having too much faith in the typical beauty standards that they're being fed their entire lives.
Beauty Standards can be really annoying sometimes. For me as a biracial Korean I sometimes have struggled with feeling the need to look a certain way because I want to be accepted. There's expectations for all us 혼혈 (Mixed Koreans) to all be "attractive looking" or the "perfect blend of eastern and western." And at the same time there's Western beauty standards that are the exact opposite of Korean. If I dilligently follow Korean beauty trends more people accuse me of denying my other culture or saying I'm losing my "americanness." If I keep up with Western standards I'm the foreign girl that speaks Korean. It's tough when people try to define you or when the media defines what makes someone beautiful. It's something everyone has dealt with at some point in their life. At the end of the day I think it's most important to do what makes you happy. Don't let the media make you feel like you need to look a certain way or else no one will ever find you attractive. There's so much more to beauty than physical appearance. Learn to love yourself and then others can love you. 💕
heaven K I'm not mixed or American but where I'm from, people say that all mixed people are good looking. 😰😰😰 One of the first people I ever knew is mixed (Filipino/Nigerian). He isn't ugly but he isn't what you'd normally call very handsome? I think he's alright.
Most are considered "beautiful" if mixed with an "higher" form of beauty, meaning whiteness. It's very racist so don't be shocked. Black/POC mixed with white = " exotic upgrade" POC mixed with POC = quite hierarchical with black at the bottom.
+H B Americans don't nearly pay as much attention to mixed Asian people as South Koreans do. In fact it is more than likely for an American to see an Asian person as better-looking than a mixed person, and the reason is because race usually doesn't play a part in American standard of beauty. Everyone already knows Asians tend to be misrepresented in the US in comparison to white people, anyway. Mixed white-Asians are usually a safe bet to fitting in Korean beauty standards. Even if they don't look too appealing from the start, their appearance can easily be enhanced with the use of Korean makeup to look like they belong to Korean standards.
Honestly, is it weird that I think males with monolids look quite attractive? Like even some of the guys in this vid... I guess it depends on the eye shape and stuff. But I've seen korean male idols / actors still look really good with monolids that clearly never bothered getting surgery. (eg., Jeon Wonwoo from Seventeen and actor: Ryu Junyeol.... And their eyes are actually my favourite feature of theirs)
I guess it's a different story for females tho ._. My chinese friend told me girls dont look good with monolids unlike many guys that can pull it off 🤔🤔
Rika B. Actually Koreans do find monolid guys attractive, that's why you see a lot of monolid actors and idols but it's different when it comes to girls.
Oh I see... Yeah makes sense, I think the same thing. But at the same time bunch of males do get double eyelid surgery. So it depends on the shape of eye and face. Not all guys look good with monolids (many do though, unlike most females I guess)
No it's not weird at all, just a personal preference, everyone has them. I also think monolids are attractive and don't get why so many Koreans are obsessed with double eyelids. I think girls look good with monolids too.
I really like to monolid look too. I guess it depends on the persons overall look. But as an American I have double lids, and it sucks because I can't wear upper lid eye liner or eye shadow, because it all basically rubs off or makes a line in the crease between my lids. Monolid is better suited for that...
Surprised to see that not all koreans have that perfect skin (some people in the video are struggling with acne in their faces, which is normal). Not everything that you watch in k-dramas is true,of course and like in every country, beautiful people (with surgery or not) are on tv, the rest is just normal people.
Hillary Loves BTS and Monsta X That’s bc most of them whitewashed their skin. Before surgery they always have some dull skin- and that’s not everyone but it’s true. After all they’re Asians, so what white skin???
Its true that in a general basis, Korean people have amazing skin. Korean skincare, skin products, etc are so advanced people all around the world use Korean brand specifically. That said, its their personal choice wether or not they want to have good skin or not. Some people just dont mind having some acne for a couple of months
Everything people said in the video is true. But also(In my opinion), korean society has really high standard and is really competitive. Because everyone work hard, study hard...etc. So individual's ability is similar and high. As a company they have to hire people. So inevitably they also see people's look. So people inevitably get surgery. It's just my thought.
Korea isn't the only country that works hard & studies hard. Japan has a reputation for being a country of workaholics (karoshi=death by overwork) but they're not as obsessed with plastic surgery like Koreans. The reason you gave isn't a good one.
Milla Diaz I'm not saying that it is the 'only reason'. But it is one of the reason. I don't know how Japan is like. But every country is a diffrent and complex combination of something. Korea is quite similar to Japan but also diffrent from Japan. I'm korean and I live in Korea. And me and lot of others think like that. But, it is also just thought, not the truth.
쏭지 I was told similar things by other Koreans I met and also that there usually is a lot of social pressure on people which makes them do all kinds of things to get a job. That sort of social pressure is probably the worst factor and that everyone is kind of aware of it but at the same time submits to it. I still don't believe that so many Koreans get plastic surgery. But since I don't live there I can't know for sure . . .
Yes i do agree a part in your opinion but the thing is,in korea, the society is giving you a "beauty standard" in order to tell you that you are beautiful. Yes, I dont disagree with people getting their faces done but having the reason of doing that because there is a standard to comply is just so wrong...everyone is beautiful an unique in their own way. If being beautiful means having those typical WHITE WESTERN LOOK than wouldn't the earth be so dull and boring?
MediAevum Yes, it is really sad truth.🙁 Many korean define themself by social standard. Lot of students goes to university. Because it is social standard. Young students even don't know what is their dream. They just told by parents to go to university. But not all people do. And nowdays people's perception is changing.
this video make me speechless because it got me imagining how hard the pressure to live in south korea. gladly i'm indonesian, there are so many races, religions, languages in indonesia, we are different but we are okay about that, because diversity is awesome.
I am indonesian too. Sadly, with the popularity of K drama and K pop in our country, people start to grasp Korean beauty standard as new standard in our country now....
@Jitendra Singh oh pls, atleast in india...You dont have to look good to get a job right?I know all human beings wants good looks...But,not too much..Atleast you dont see people Look always fake in india
I'm not against plastic surgery, but I think it's kind of sad to have a "plastic surgery culture" in a country. I think that it's okay to have PS when you have really big insecurities or if there is a Physiognomy problem, but it shouldn't be something automatic. Plastic surgery is an important change, it's a really big decisions, you're changing something that you had since you're born forever. I don't think that it should be unmarked like this. Furthermore, for me a lot of koreans features are beautiful like the monolid or the shape of the face. I think that sometimes we have to accept how we look and not conform to a beauty standard, your appearance makes you unique and it's your legacy. We should be pride of what we are given and how we look, the world will be so bland if everyone looks the same.
I wish Koreans wouldn't change their appearance. Especially the eyes. I think monolids are beautiful and I wish I could just shake them and tell them to wake up and see how beautiful they all are! I totally understand enhancing what you already have, I think most of us can agree, but definitely not changing what you have unless it's genuinely making you depressed as a result.
You said it in a good sense and I understand you, but we have our own beauty standards. There is no need for Korea to meet the standards of "beautiful single eyelids Asians" that foreigners (Westerners) think. What you said is like an Asian telling a white man not to tan because his white skin is beautiful.
I find the fact that we live in a world who's revolving around beauty standards pretty sad. I feel like people have to meet up some expectations set by the media or the society, which are purely artificial. For example, regarding the monolid/doublelid thing, I think the monolid is extremely beautiful and an unique trait of your race. As a foreigner I noticed that most of girls's faces (kpop stars) have really similar features. We'll end up "wearing" the same face. How can we express ourselves if we all look the same... Anyways, this is, in my opinion, a problem of our society. Thank you for the video and I did not mean to bash anyone who had plastic surgery, I believe this is everybody's choice, I just stated my opinion.
Mika Pii Part of the Problem is that Asian countries as a whole have a very homogeneous population and if you look different you're treated differently in many ways.
L-The Detective I see, I have to take that into consideration as well. But on the other hand they set standards that are different from the "typical" asian person. The skin colour, the hair, the eyes, or so it seems to me. I see kpop stars changing their look quite frequently. They dye their hair, put on contact lenses, undergo doublelid operation etc and achieve a look that is different from the traditional asian people and this is what I find odd.
I'm really impressed with the questions Asian Boss asks his interviewees. He doesn't go easy on them at all, and asks difficult questions to answer. He's very talented at what he does.
The fact that most of them think that the issue with plastic surgery is some kind of personal insecurity rather than a pressure imposed by society is even more depressing💔
It's confuse. They said that a good appearance is very important not only for K-pop idols but to get any job. But they also said that the oversea's people are overeacting about plastic surgery, but actually in Korea it's kind normal. In other countrys plastic surgery is unusual, even with TV stars it doesn't sound really normal. Ahh I just think that they are so insecure and need the approval of society to "be happy" and that's so sad
Korean get plastic surgery just little more than USA. www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2271134/15million-people-plastic-surgery-world-just-year--SOUTH-KOREA-leading-way.html
Joohyun Moon Instead of comparing just recognize there is an issue if someone has to get surgery to get a job and whether they really want to change thier face or if they feel like society will accept them better if they do. All I see is a finger pointing game starting of who is worse it just needs to be addressed as a serious issue in quite a few countries including south korea. the list.
It's not about insecurity. It's more about securing a better position, being ahead of others in the competitive society. To give you another example, there even is a huge private tutoring market for pre-school students where they finish off elementary & middle school academic courses in a year. Asian societies are way more competitive than western ones. So it's hard for a lot of westerners to understand it. But it definitely is something that needs to disappear some time later.
Although getting ps is a thing everywhere, getting plastic surgery on your face is a much bigger deal than for example your but, why? Because your face is unique, that's what people most see that define you. Your body parts are mostly covered always but your face is always shown, you look at the mirror and what do you see? Your face, because that's you. I think it's a personal decision whether or not to get ps, but you shouldn't have to change yourself in a unnatural way in order to survive (get a job), also getting a ps on your face is kind of in a way changing your identity and who you are
So sad. I remember when I was in South Korea (3 years ago), Gangnam had a whole street filled with plastic surgery clinics. Anywhere you walked there'd be before and after advertisements on boards. Heck the subway is filled with plastic surgery/beauty makeup ads. South Korea feeds off its citizens insecurities that's why these people don't take it as a big deal because getting plastic surgery is like going for a facial to them. & most people give up and get plastic surgery done because they know it's less likely for them to get in a good job without looking good. ( In South Korea you HAVE TO attach a photo of your face on your resume). Yes, plastic surgery happens in other countries but not to this extent.South Korea's super high standards (work, school, beauty, etc) are why their Suicide rates are ridiculously high.
@@riorio745 and that photo is only for identity purpose nt for looks or appearance purpose that pics of Indians on resume r nt even so much photoshopped or click by professional really no body in India gonna see that attached pic needed only for identity purpose bt in Korea it's very important to attached photos clicked by professionals and they r so much photoshopped unlike India where even majority of girls don't do makeup on daily basis or don't really do so much skincare
That girl from 5:35 mark nailed it. Korean entertainment industry is so big right now, that people just look at these pretty/good looking celebrities on tv and mags everyday, that they have set ridiculously high expectations/standards Hence, more people are getting plastic surgeries to look more like those celebs. Until the 90s, plastic surgeries weren't so common in Korea and it used to be frowned upon. But I think this one particular celebrity came out in early 2000s and admitted she had some procedures done, after that the taboo/shame associated with plastic surgeries have disappeared from Korea. I know for a fact that a lot of other ppl in other Asian countries (like China, Taiwan and Japan etc) get procedures done too, but they don't talk about it at all.
This is so sad . The message bred into the people from their youth is... "Without meeting our beauty ideals you are Less Than"...and wow that's a kicker
i think it's better to stay natural and i think that doing a plastic surgery would be good only for someone who has a real problem with his face like if people look at him in a wierd way or something if that thing is really making this person not at ease then making a plastic surgery can fix that and can make the person feel better about himself and feel more acceptable in his surround.
To those who says that PS is common in other countries as well, please rethink your statement. Yes, it is common in other countries among CELEBRITIES, ARTISTS, and not ORDINARY people. In my country there are absolutely no high schoolers (let alone those in middle school) that get PS. PS among ordinary people is almost 0. Idk any family members, friends, whatsoever that does PS. Hell, it's not even something that people talk about. It's insane and ridiculous. Those who have gotten into major injuries and accidents are the only ones that are considered acceptable to go under the knife (for repairing and the sake of their own health, but it is never because they want to look 'prettier' and 'more handsome'). And I don't know about you, but I think for those who says 'Let them do what they want, it's their life, it's their choice,' etc. Isn't that the same as saying let this person become overweight even with a high risk of obesity and diabetes in their life? It's toxic and there's nothing right about that. We're human beings and every one of us is different. We ARE MEANT to look different, have DIFFERENT body shapes, and DIFFERENT skin tones. We're not manufactured goods that should be altering God's creation and thinking it's okay just because a lot of people do it, it's the beauty standard, and the society puts pressure on it. Let's just cast our ego aside and see what is truly right for humankind and future generations. (I know this sounds dramatic but seriously though)
mm well in my small third world country normal people do get plastic surgery. In my year alone there are like four girls and one guy that got plastic surgery on their nose. that i know of. some of them while in highschool and others later in university. And a guy i met in university also got his nose done before the second year started. (here what the common folk get done are mostly their noses and some people also get boob augmentations like my cousin.) so it's definitely not uncommon for the common person to get plastic surgery in many many countries
Izzah Farhana in Indonesia, even if you are an actress, if you get PS, you'll get bullied by people and media, but it's really rare to find an idol/acress whos has PS or even i can't find any
Yes! I don't get how people are saying ps is something that happens everywhere! No it does not happen everywhere or at least not to the extent of Korea.
I'm glad that this video was made. You don't know what a country is really like unless you go there and are able to spend time with the people of that country. It's like people think they know Americans by the celebrities that are promoted. Most of us, people in general, are really different than what is hyped by media.
Great interview. Really appreciate the balanced views and opinions of the people who were interview. It is true that South Korea does have one of the highest rates per capita of plastic surgeries in the world but it is also a fact that most of the procedures are undergone by foreign nationals mostly from other Asian and Eastern European countries who travel to the country because plastic surgery is cheaper there.
In America, majority will say they're opposed to PS, but PS rate in America is only slightly lower than Korea. Americans are a lot more secretive about PS. Koreans are just more open about it. I say do what makes you happy.
Mike K and I think because Koreans do surgery on their eyes and you see the eyes first when you look at a person so that's why there surgery look more obvious while American touch up on their body and other places than the eyes.
Claire Riri Westerners get a lot of nose jobs and lip fillers, which to me are very noticeable. Look at Meg Ryan, for example. But see my post cosmetic procedure statistics throughout the world.
Mike K yes alot of american get plastic surgery but they aren't rejected for a jobs base on their looks in other words they don't need plastic surgery to get recognized while in Korea you have to be good looking to land a job or to be an idol.
its the same in america. everyone ends up looking the same due to lip fillers, over exaggerated makeup, nose jobs, butt implants, boob jobs, etc. I think it's a problem for korea, but also for many other countries around the world.
We dont have many in Europe. It's more boobs (more in spain) and a little nose. It exist but not as the point of Korea. Many do the V-line but it's a really a dangerous operation, and it's change the person face. For example"for it change a person face" Chinese who go do this in korea (technology and all) need an attestation of identity by the clinic to comeback in China, because the face on the passport is not recognize in airport.
It is a global problem but I feel like it's worse in Korea. In America, we have a lot more people who speak up for individuality and who say you don't have to conform to certain beauty standards. I don't know as much about Korean culture since I only follow k-pop, but whenever I watch a Korean program they always talk about how important beauty is. I rarely see a Korean program where someone says it's inner beauty that matters more. I feel that in the West, there are more people who are comfortable being non-conformist and challenging beauty standards, but in Korea most people just try to fit in.
South Korea's economies are run on Electronics, K-Pop, K-Dramas, and Plastic Surgery. I am Asian, and still cannot differentiate the faces from those dramas around. When my sister or friends showed it, i just nodded my head and thought "Is that the same person?" I bet there are one doctor to fix them all XD
They say the west exaggerates Korea’s beauty complex then go on to say beauty is one of the most important things in their society, and that it’s casual for TEENS to get plastic surgery.
Wish i could have chance to do the interview. Most of them exaggerated the situation in korea.. only few ppl talk about getting plastic sugery and those ppl are mostly teenagers and they say it never seriously but just as one of many gossips. Getting surgery to get a job..🤦♀️ it became even in korea a news that such thing exist. Most ppl didn't even know that exists. I have never seen in my life someone getting it for a job interview
I don't know how you guys keep finding interesting questions to ask, but I keep coming back to watch more because the answers people give are so thoughtful.
Im natural born korean, and this is why i cant feel perfectly enjoy that kpop or kdrama enfluence to the whole world. Kpop and kdrama's lot of part already built by low self esteem of korean. That is why kdrama is total fonyland. Everybody from nonkorea doesnt know that korea culture is super afraid of judging something so they would never tell something really matter or important issue.

i feel so sorry to all kids out there cos they have different face with their parents. i never want to judge you but God created you beautiful and different but you feel unsatisfied and try to change it. we are a masterpiece of God.. ppl should aware about it.

im korean. i lives here 17years and i have 7people(just like my age 6 friends and my 25old cousin) have plastic surgery (they all do double eyelids). two friends do plastic surgery when they were 15 i was shocked..
It's interesting how they keep saying it's their choice when later questions revealed that it is in fact societal pressure after all... just shows how prevalent this beauty pressure really is there
The world is very superficial, Korea society is on the top list along with the western world. It is not only Korea Celebrities who get plastic surgery but koreans regular citizens are also judge by their appearance in the work force to get a job. My personal opinion is why would any Asian change who they "really" are by changing their characteristics. Be who you are stop trying to look white or have western features. Plastic surgery yes may change your outward appearance. But it can not change your DNA genes, no matter how many plastic surgery you have, your future children will still have your original features and characteristics. Love you Love your Asian self.
Katie Pop21 Do you know that koreans women are fixated with the late actress Audrey Hepburn? They have pictures of her found throughout in some places in Korea. And sometime she is even shown in Korean drama. Even Japanese cartoons anime are created with blue eyes and some with blond hair. Koreans are not changing their original features to look like other ethnicity group of people of color, but instead to have more European features which is white.
Wow, I don't what it was, maybe the questions you asked or the people you interviewed, but this video really gives a good insight about this. I really enjoyed this one.

I would like to see more videos on beauty standards, specifically skin color (like koreans w/ tan skin) and how they are treated. Also would be interested to see some videos about how half koreans(specifically mixed with something other than asian) are treated in terms of school and by others around them.

Nice video as always, Asian Boss-- thank you! I may have an unpopular opinion (and I don't disdain other points of view), but I just find it really depressing how accepting [Korean] society is of plastic surgery. We're all brainwashed to some extent, but witnessing its effects on this level is pretty disturbing. It's amazing how "modifying" your features based on media influence is readily encouraged. Getting plastic surgery for reasons outside of injuries and birth defects is a blatant statement to low self-esteem; it bothers me that body dysmorphia is cured with artificial procedures such as this.
First, and God knows I have no idea why I wrote this much, thanks so much for giving light to these people's perspectives and thoughts on such a complex issue. It, like every other vid I've checked on your channel, was super insightful and interesting. Now, for my thoughts. Another aspect to this that's really interesting to me is that there is certainly a culture/presence of plastic surgery in the West, so while South Korea regularly gets attention for it, I want people from the West who express judgment, pity, or otherwise look down on it to remember that. When Kylie Jenner can shoot to her current fame and mass exposure ONLY after getting enough procedures in her teenage years to look like an entirely different person (literally new face and basically new body) + scandals made possible and relevant BY that transformation (and her relationships), we have to admit to ourselves that if it's a problem, it's our problem too, just a different country and cultural context. Attraction is powerful, beauty is powerful, being treated well and advancing in society because you /look/ the part enough is powerful. Whether we like it or not, I 100% understand the push factors toward getting them. I would love for people to love the way they already look, but even makeup provides a slightly different look than our natural selves to enhance our features, so I can understand trying to make those enhancements and all the benefits that CAN come from it more permanent. Furthermore, I believe in the right to choice, so ultimately, my opinion feels like that of the girl with the red jacket and pink sweater, or the guy with the glasses and hoodie, plus or minus some extra considerations. I don't think any group of people's natural and more distinctive features that become racialized on the global stage (like monolids for certain Asian groups, tall nose bridges for white people, or full lips, noses and figures in the black diaspora) SHOULD be treated like problems, because in reality if it's not harming your life and it's natural, nothing's genuinely wrong with it, and I personally think all peoples and features can be plenty beautiful in all their variety and combinations. Unfortunately, we're far far removed from societies that run their beauty standards on what's truly natural as a rule. People in mass numbers DO subscribe to various beauty biases, and it DOES affect people's lives. Attractive people are treated better and "unattractive", with some exceptions, are not. With that in mind, plastic surgery or beauty enhancement procedures are almost like an investment in your own social standing and personal confidence in your body image. Actually, many times they flat out are. So again, I defend that it's a personal choice and I can understand why others do it, but my hope is for a world where we aren't so strict on our guidelines for what can be beautiful or attractive, that we can all, regardless of what we look like naturally, navigate throughout the world feeling comfortable in our physical form, therefore helping out our mental too. Not everyone has the option to get this stuff done, or even wants to, so should they just...hate themselves for not having the body enhancements of an instagram model or the face of an idol? My hope is a future where the answer is no. Alright, if anyone read to the end of this, you're the goat.
I think Koreans go overboard. I'm Korean but grew up in the west. Some people aren't like that. That's what I appreciate. Even the most perfect in people's eyes feel uncomfortable in Korea because of Korean mentality. Sometimes I see these people who react to only looks as trash.

Ayyyyy playing with fire playing in the background at around 3:40 🙌🏼 I noticed that after getting a bit into kpop, I started being much more concerned with my skin and have subscribed to Korean beauty boxes, purchased Korean bursts products, watched Korean beauty videos, etc and while my skin has improved I don't think I would've gotten into any of this if it weren't for my interest into kpop. I'll even look at myself and be like "I need a smaller nose" "I want a more v like shaped face" "I'm okay with my pale skin but it could be a bit more whiter (even though 2-3 months ago I wanted to be much more tan)" "I need to really really really slim down maybe I'll try a kpop diet to lose weight like some celebs" and it's definitely not completely healthy and as for the plastic surgery I feel like most, if not every country has something like that in the United States instead of plastic surgery we pile on makeup and has all of these makeup trends going on with the instagram brows, highlighting, Kylie Jenner lips, cut crease eyeshadow, etc like makeup in the United States is to plastic surgery in Korea at least that's how I currently see it
Meh.... the beauty stigma is a global problem, it's just that Korea takes it to a whole new level. The media no matter which country is always displaying their own perspective of beauty. Compared to Korea I don't think most around the "World" or "Western" countries will casually talk so freely of plastic surgery as the population in Korea will. Sure plastic surgery happens around the world but Korea has earned the title as the "Capital" of plastic surgery from all around the globe following the K-POP hype. I do think it's a problem because Korean social media have a ruthless reputation for calling out or starting rumors over Korean celebrities having had plastic surgery or not despite being a "Pro" plastic surgery culture. From the perspective of a resident in the US I don't mind plastic surgery as long as the person doesn't become unrecognizable. I certainly wouldn't recommend plastic surgery unless it involves a health issue or due to an accident of some sort.
these girls looking so nice , i don't know why koreans don't have confidence of their beauty ..they really looking nice ..no need to plastic surgery ...
I think people should embrace the way they look more. The media tells us what is considered beautiful and what's not. If it wouldn't be promoted so much, no one would care. That's why peole nowadays are getting into a depression very easily, if they are for example not as skinny as some celebrities or models. In the end it's all about the money. They make so much money out of the beauty industry, it's incredible. If nobody would care about their looks as much anymore, it would be a huge deficit for the industry. (Just an unpopular opinion from Germany 😉)
Their talent is the label deciding their image and sound which is so typical and based on other kpop bands and they hire songwriters and producers to make their songs and tell them how to sing it which later would be edited with tons of Autotune not to mention the fact that none of them really perform 100% live. Such a thing in the west or japan wouldn't exist, and that's the difference between talents and appearance and that's why they're called idols and kpop figures instead of artists and musicians like other countries. Korea have the same culture as N.Korea when it comes to creativity and entertainment in the media industries
Everyone is so compassionate and respectful and understanding. "It's the person's choice." Ok. So why can't you be compassionate and respectful and understanding about their looks in the first place? Is it compassionate? After the fact? Or is it just complicit?
It's quite surprising to hear these opinions which lead me to realize that more and more generations from 10-20s in Korea accepting the culture of plastic surgery as a way that is necessary in order to gain confidence and become more successful in life. Acceptance of plastic surgery is more prevalent than I thought in Korean society. The media influence is huge. I can't help but feeling sad that the entire generations are going this path without even a feeling of hesitation. Of course, this trend is happening globally but Korean society definitely gained a reputation of being ahead in this. For certain people, plastic surgery brings some positive effects in their life so it's really hard to come up with a discernment to draw the line.
Im admiring those people who secure enough with their face without plastic surgery eventhough it might not meeting up the korean standars. There lots of kpop idols and artist that are not open about the plastic surgery they had...meaning there is a distinct in korean society itself.
What a frank and insightful discussion. It's great to have these voices out there. I like how most of them brought it back to diplomatic reasoning : it's a personal choice, who are we to judge others? That's refreshing seeing as what the media tends to circle when it comes to Koreans is overzealous K-netz and society. Seems like the younger generation are opening up to being less reserved and judgemental.
What worries me is that when you're applying for a job in Korea they ask for a picture... If they're not judging appearance then why would that be needed?
4:22 How can you make the fact that teenagers get eyelid surgery as a graduation gift sound worse? (Obviously this is not something they all get, but it is considered a normal gift) The western media doesn't make it sound worse, it's just presenting us the facts. This just proves how bad the plastic surgery culture is. She doesn't even REALIZE it, because it's so normal for her. I'm also not saying that getting plastic surgery is bad or wrong, but you can't deny the fact that the mindset of society there plays a major role, and it's sadly very focused on looking like a certain type. This is just a sad fact they yet have to catch up on.
Since I started to watch k dramas, listening to k pop or in general be interested in the korean culture I started to think more and more about my outer appearance than before like clothes, beauty, makeup etc. After watching your Videos I think that this kind of trend is only in Tv and Media. The people living there aren't like that. I think they are normal like their appearance, weight etc. But they also know that plastic surgery is something common in Korea and already normal. I live in Germany and here are the people not like that. For example in a job interview they just want that your appearance is polish. They don't care if you don't fit in the standard. I don't think in Germany is a beauty standard like in Korea at all. I think in Germany they just care about what you have done so far in your life like grades, how long have you worked, are you ambitious, are you confident to get the job and stuff like that. They just care if your are healthy. They don't think that much about being thin unless you are obese. In Germany they care about your personal opinion. Sure there are people who care about your appearance and that kind of things but it's not extreme as in Korea. If you have a plastic surgery in Germany and people didn't knew it they think you are not confident about your appearance before. If you say just freely that you had a surgery they think that you are even more confident to speak about it. But all in all in Germany it isn't that common to have plastic surgery and if they do it than only to have bigger lips and that was a beauty standard from Instagram like all these bloggers. It isn't also common that guys wear makeup or use beauty products. And maybe they use beauty products if they have acne or something like that. I think that the countries have a big gap in beauty standards and do something about it. I liked your video a lot because I think to watch videos like that people will recognize that beauty isn't everything in life. 😊
I feel like ever since I started watching kpop and kdramas, I've gotten a lot more interested in my weight and looks. Like I've become obsessed with trying to get milky white skin, even though I keep forgetting to put on sunscreen.
This whole video/comment section is very interesting to me: as someone from the Midwest US who's never met or known anyone with PS or cosmetic surgery aside from what's needed after an injury(most of the girls I know don't even wear makeup except for a date or job interviews lol) it's hard to get enough perspective on it to form an opinion. I know PS is VERY much looked down on here, but this is just one small part of a very large country so.......I guess it just all comes down to whether it's societal pressure or if somebody is actually doing for THEM, not just to fit someone else's standards? If that's the case I see nothing wrong with tweaking yourself a bit. But then I've always hated my nose lol😖😂 BTW it's kind of hilarious reading people from around the world's ideas your culture, some are so off! But then I'm pretty sure we're all thinking that at some of these comments, wherever we happen to be from.😊
Omg, hi ARMY!🙋 Oops that makes some ppl mad but whatever. Into guess we really are everywhere! Ikr? I guess that's what this vid s about, stereotypes. I'm from us too! Toledo. Hey there lol! Another Yoongi-bias from the Midwest US (that's Toledo, Oh right?), awesome!! I don't even know any other girls who listen to kpop here, it's that backwoods lol! I've done 2 semesters, hadn't picked a major yet..........but, well.....then "life" happened back home, and I'm working towards, hopefully going back next year. 💩😟 Trying be positive, but it's a little hard sometimes. I'm seriously considering Psychology, I think. It's so fascinating, and I could hopefully help people along the way. You know, it sounds like you still have plenty of time to switch, do Physical Therapy if that's what you REALLY want. Do you, boo.👌 Hey, but this isn't really anything to do with the video anymore lol! If you want you can hit me up on Twt, I'd love to chat more with a fellow Army from my area! When the guy wearing the yellow sweatshirt said about people asking "why haven't you do double eyelid surgery?" is the same here in my country asking people "why are you not using whitening products?" Lol Its when its becoming a cultural thing that others who do not see you conforming to their standard of beauty starts questioning and being appalled by your personal choice. Because its a trend these days, because everyone else is doing it so why can't you and it really bugs them. Its a sad mentality but apparently, wherever else in the world you'll be, people noticed how you look first before anything else. This does not only happen to Korea.
Kind of says something about Korean culture in general. Plastic surgery in essence is kind of like cheating by pretending to be someone your not, in order to stand out from the crowd. The fact that it is so popular in Korea is a microcosm for the fact that things are so competitive there as a whole, that people are willing to resort to cheating to get the edge. You see it in other aspects too, such as the whole cheating culture when it comes to school examinations.
But it's not that big of a deal if you have or don't have double eyelids, it's not something to obsess over, I think some Koreans should be more confident in having mono eyelids ( I know a lot Koreans are confident) and sometimes when Koreans get double eyelid surgery they don't look any different/ anymore pretty......But it is their decision :)
I have to disagree, It seems like quite a few Koreans are influenced by western looks, even some Koreans have said it themselves. It probably just adds to the pressure ( Maybe it isn't pressure for some people) to see all of the Korean celebrities who look like that.
Differences in cultures and features in our faces is what makes this world beautiful like how Asian people have mono lids I honestly as a non Asian think it's such a beautiful feature or how black people have darker skin imagine if we all looked the same? How boring would that be? Let's just learn to love how we look...
They say it's an individual choice but I think in the long run, if a large amount of individuals choose the plastic surgery route, that can produce an even more problematic beauty standard and an even higher pressure to conform. So don't think that individual choices don't affect the larger population. They can and they do. It takes strength of character and a lot of time to learn to love the body you are in, and to me, that is a more worthwhile journey than plastic surgery. Apparently, a journey that few people value these days. That said, I don't want to judge those who get plastic surgery because I don't know exactly what it is like to be in the shoes of those who do make that decision. I'm sure there are people who are very depressed and deliberate the decision for a long time before going through with it. So I don't want to judge. But I do think it is important to take caution when it comes to these. To add to that, a lot of beauty standards are kind of like fads. They come and go. The big lips trend wasn't popular at all 20 years ago. Etc.

Asian Boss please keep doing it
it's just a waste of time and money!(the good looking culture).when I first got into the k culture I was like that!
Asian Boss I only watch steve because of his questions of choice. always spot on in the wound.
Asian Boss subscribed long ago..I like how you guys present things.. good job Asian boss..and I like Steve..he's awesome
The media is indeed a very powerful brain washing tool.
hold up same here
Now when you said it, I think i've been there too.
hold up
This happened to me too.
same, also i didn't even know what double eyelid/ monolids was until i got into kpop/kdrama lol
TheRealityofFake I think they just satisfiy themselves by getting surgery.
DriveByBodyPiercer yes
I agree with you 100%. Somebody who is satisfied with their looks wouldn't get plastic surgery. And why aren't they satistied with themselves? Because of beauty standards and the need to be loved by others. Everybody keeps saying that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...but beauty is very objective and influenced by media.
cuz lot of koreans are hypocrites
I love how the interviewer asks critical questions to gain informative answers without being rude or offensive.
Koreans were naturally soft and always tryna be soft in casual conversations. They used to soften their tone so they won't hurt others feelings and that's what i really love about them.
Yeah, I was really impressed by his questions! Great interviewer
@@니콜모아 they are not naturally soft on the internet, or even in person sometimes.
@@perrytheman9489 i respect your words but how did you say?
@@perrytheman9489 They even have some word conjugations to soften their tones when they want to disagree on something.
Tammy Galindo ; Tammy I couldn't have agreed more
Tammy Galindo i love asian eyes (monolid) idk why they Dont consider it appealing too :(
AyAReI00 generally they prefer double eyelid but sometimes they like monolid.
*sigh* korea is so obsessed with physical appearance it's honestly pitiful, and i say this as a korean
👏👏👏👏
So true. I mean there is much more than physical appearance.. like at the end one day we all will get old nd the beauty will go away..
Like im into kpop nd i love it but sometimes i feel bad because everyone is just about looks looks
s p STFU every country is obsessed with physical appearance it just that Korean are honest no bullshit
I'm Korean and approve this comment
Eugene. L agreed, there is so much more to life than your looks
Eugene. L It's not just Asia. Lookism pervades all cultures. Koreans are just further down the path.
it's not just asia... let's not forget that american girls spend an hour every day doing hair and makeup. if you just look at the prices of makeup, youd understand that people are obsessed with looks in all countries
Well that's one of the main reasons why the suicide rate is so high.
wujing吴晶 Yeah right on the money. It is really not worth it. Personally I believe most of the women are already beautiful. Inner beauty / outer beauty is just rubbish
Unless with a serious genetic deformity, like stiff jaws, cleft lip and facial injuries, most people are already beautiful
Figureight well said
Well said my friend👏👏👏
Best comment that I've ever seen on UA-cam
Figureight
No one would put themselves under the knife for aesthetic reasons unless affected by society standards and media pressure at a level!!
Good video.

It still baffles me how they like small faces so much. I find some of their celebs with small faces look weird since their faces aren't proportionate with their body like a really tall person w/ long limbs and a very small face. >
@above
True.
@🤍 I feel like nowadays some people find that unattractive, as an American myself. No one likes too much
@고구마호박이요? how do you know that the person you are replying to is an American? -_-
Beauty Standards can be really annoying sometimes. 💕
Suji Kim ah.. isnt there a expectation to be good looking if you're mixed even in the U.S...? just curious
heaven K I'm not mixed or American but where I'm from, people say that all mixed people are good looking. 😰😰😰
One of the first people I ever knew is mixed (Filipino/Nigerian).
Suji Kim Nonetheless mixed people almost always look "good".
+H B
Americans don't nearly pay as much attention to mixed Asian people as South Koreans do.
Karina Ibelis It's not surprising actually its quite common for Koreans to have it as well
Hillary Loves BTS and Monsta X That’s bc most of them whitewashed their skin. Before surgery they always have some dull skin- and that’s not everyone but it’s true. After all they’re Asians, so what white skin???
The beauty in the entertainment industry created it. Sad but hv yo ...otherwise ppl would not idolize n left you...means no business
Its true that in a general basis, Korean people have amazing skin. Korean skincare, skin products, etc are so advanced people all around the world use Korean brand specifically. That said, its their personal choice wether or not they want to have good skin or not. Some people just dont mind having some acne for a couple of months
We see to many k-drama where they are all extremely skinny and follow all korean beauty standards.

Mika Pii That's capitalism for y'all :)
Be the sheep.
L-The Detective I see, I have to take that into consideration as well. But on the other hand they set standards that are different from the "typical" asian person. The skin colour, the hair, the eyes, or so it seems to me. I see kpop stars changing their look quite frequently. They dye their hair, put on contact lenses, undergo doublelid operation etc and achieve a look that is different from the traditional asian people and this is what I find odd.
mabf1953 Mabf Couldn't agree more

Ahh I just think that they are so insecure and need the approval of society to "be happy" and that's so sad

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2271134/15million-people-plastic-surgery-world-just-year--SOUTH-KOREA-leading-way.html
Joohyun Moon thanks for the information

Korean entertainment industry is so big right now, that people just look at these pretty/good looking celebrities on tv and mags everyday, that they have set ridiculously high expectations/standards
Hence, more people are getting plastic surgeries to look more like those celebs.
Until the 90s, plastic surgeries weren't so common in Korea and it used to be frowned upon. But I think this one particular celebrity came out in early 2000s and admitted she had some procedures done, after that the taboo/shame associated with plastic surgeries have disappeared from Korea.
I know for a fact that a lot of other ppl in other Asian countries (like China, Taiwan and Japan etc) get procedures done too, but they don't talk about it at all.

i think it's better to stay natural and i think that doing a plastic surgery would be good only for someone who has a real problem with his face like if people look at him in a wierd way or something if that thing is really making this person not at ease then making a plastic surgery can fix that and can make the person feel better about himself and feel more acceptable in his surround.

And a guy i met in university also got his nose done before the second year started. so it's definitely not uncommon for the common person to get plastic surgery in many many countries

According to the statistics 5% of Americans get plastic surgery compared to 20% of Koreans. That's not even close dude.

I feel that in the West, there are more people who are comfortable being non-conformist and challenging beauty standards, but in Korea most people just try to fit in.

im korean. i lives here 17years and i have 7people(just like my age 6 friends and my 25old cousin) have plastic surgery (they all do double eyelids). two friends do plastic surgery when they were 15 i was shocked..
Omg that's rly surprising because I know nobody who's had plastic surgery 😮😮
I really dislike plastic surgery but not everyone in korea get it. and I understand why some do get it.
It's interesting how they keep saying it's their choice when later questions revealed that it is in fact societal pressure after all... just shows how prevalent this beauty pressure really is there
6:25 watch girl at the back hahaha😂😂😂
The world is very superficial, Korea society is on the top list along with the western world. It is not only Korea Celebrities who get plastic surgery but koreans regular citizens are also judge by their appearance in the work force to get a job. My personal opinion is why would any Asian change who they "really" are by changing their characteristics. Be who you are stop trying to look white or have western features. Plastic surgery yes may change your outward appearance. But it can not change your DNA genes, no matter how many plastic surgery you have, your future children will still have your original features and characteristics. Love you Love your Asian self.
Peggy Royster it's not about looking white, it's that the ideal happen to be "western features"
Peggy Royster Do you know that 30+ of the people who undergo Plastic Surgery is in Korea.
Wow, I don't what it was, maybe the questions you asked or the people you interviewed, but this video really gives a good insight about this. I really enjoyed this one.

I would like to see more videos on beauty standards, specifically skin color (like koreans w/ tan skin) and how they are treated. Also would be interested to see some videos about how half koreans(specifically mixed with something other than asian) are treated in terms of school and by others around them.
nowadays people are not lack of beauty they are just lack of self confidence .

@guy in the grey sweater. your skin is goals 😮

While watching this, I now understand what the North Korean defectors (from the previous interview) meant on how they felt about South Korea...
Q: When do you cross the line?
A: When you start to look like Michael Jackson (RIP).
"Beauty over talent" I think this is happening not just in Korea, I can clearly see it in TikTok bruh
I listen to a lot of kpop and I've never heard of Six Bomb either. They're clearly not doing a very good job of promoting themselves.
These were really interesting questions & interesting answers! Thanks!
these girls looking so nice , i don't know why koreans don't have confidence of their beauty ..they really looking nice ..no need to plastic surgery ...
This media vibe is so strong that often I hear my friends saying "When I'll have a lot of money, I'll go to korea to get a plastic surgery ".
I love all of my favorite K-pop groups for their talent more than their looks
"It's the person's choice."
Ok.
So why can't you be compassionate and respectful and understanding about their looks
in the first place?
I find monolids super attractive. The eyes looks much more magnetic to me.
Everybody wants to look same... Nobody wants uniqueness...
Thank God I'm Indian and we're not judged by way we looks
Dude we all judge the way we look
.. Koreans just took that on extreme level..too extreme
@@Mr.Eminem you right

Yes u guys are.. u guys are considered to be the most unattractive race
I clicked on the Like button even before watching! You guys have talent & heart! Keep up the work
Since I started to watch k dramas, listening to k pop or in general be interested in the korean culture I started to think more and more about my outer appearance than before like clothes, beauty, makeup etc.
All K-drama guys and girls look the same. Pretty and that's all. Sad....
But then I've always hated my nose lol😖😂
BTW it's kind of hilarious reading people from around the world's ideas your culture, some are so off! But then I'm pretty sure we're all thinking that at some of these comments, wherever we happen to be from.😊

Hey there lol! Another Yoongi-bias from the Midwest US (that's Toledo, Oh right?), awesome!! I don't even know any other girls who listen to kpop here, it's that backwoods lol! I'm seriously considering Psychology, I think. It's so fascinating, and I could hopefully help people along the way. You know, it sounds like you still have plenty of time to switch, do Physical Therapy if that's what you REALLY want. Do you, boo.👌
Hey, but this isn't really anything to do with the video anymore lol! If you want you can hit me up on Twt, I'd love to chat more with a fellow Army from my area! My handle: @nshade4ever. :-)

When the guy wearing the yellow sweatshirt said about people asking "why haven't you do double eyelid surgery?" is the same here in my country asking people "why are you not using whitening products?" Lol
Its when its becoming a cultural thing that others who do not see you conforming to their standard of beauty starts questioning and being appalled by your personal choice. Because its a trend these days, because everyone else is doing it so why can't you and it really bugs them.
Its a sad mentality but apparently, wherever else in the world you'll be, people noticed how you look first before anything else. This does not only happen to Korea.
Very smart questions and answers! Thank you for this video
I don't see why some Koreans want double eyelids
Dongsayadae it makes it look like you have bigger eyes and bigger eyes just makes you look more youthful, innocent and fresh.
Dongsayadae they want to look like Japanese anime characters
It's the influence of the Western beauty industry, not... anime.
I have to disagree, It seems like quite a few Koreans are influenced by western looks, even some Koreans have said it themselves. It probably just adds to the pressure ( Maybe it isn't pressure for some people) to see all of the Korean celebrities who look like that.
Kudos to mamamoo for breaking the norms, that only artist that aligns in the kpop standard gets successful.
i think 2NE1 did that first..
Etc.
