GMBN amazing video!! Thank you so much for the details. I’m out of a time you only had a monthly Magazin in your hand. It is so great to see, how you have been able to Digitalizing all this!💖💖 It is so good, that I’m watching it in parallel to the soccer world championship final FRA-CRO. You are clearly the Michael Jordan of all mtb UA-cam channels!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Shimano have finally gotten it right with the new i-spec, finally actually usable, hated it before, always ran separate shifter/brake levers for that reason. As with most others, will wait until it trickles down to XT and SLX, but honestly, have absolutely no trouble/wants with my current 10spd XT setup. Honestly, you're a good bunch of guys, but for people who are supposed to be "In the know" your lack of knowledge/preparation sometimes when reporting on stuff amazes me. XTR has had Titanium cogs on it all the way back to 8spd, no experience with it before then.
Excited to try the new XTR stuff! I've been running full XTR drive train, brakes, and pedals for a couple of years now and I've been very happy with it all. However, my cassette has some significant wear and it's time for a new one. 12 speed this time!
The new xtr looks like the best xc groupset they've ever made, the option of a two by is genius, Shimano will always support us xc guys, thanks Shimano! Can't wait to get my hands on this groupset
I’m still torn on loud hubs. I like hearing everything around and when watching UA-cam I like hearing other stuff over the hub, however going to bigger more populated trails that also have some multi directional sections I found where a loud hub is almost needed. Makes it easy to hear someone coming.
The center of the lower pulley on that derailleur actually seems to be level with the center of the upper one when using the 10 tooth ring. The only thing keeping the chain from dragging on itself is the slightly larger diameter lower pulley. I imagine that's real fun on rocky downhill sections. Also you couldn't run that with a smaller front chainring or any kind of chain tensioner. I can only imagine how hard it is to actually produce a derailleur that can keep that shit properly tensioned in the entire gear range without flopping around in the lower ones. What are people climbing with these, 200% inclines?
Yep Tiger, totally agree. I'm a huge 'value guy' in everything I buy which is why I lean on SLX with the occasional XT component thrown in.... usually because I like the look of that XT component better than the SLX version.
That groupset on that frame.... damn! Im really looking forward to seeing how Shimano 12sp stacks up against SRAM 12sp with 12 months of riding on it Right at the start of the video you mentioned you were not sure if you had see Titanium used on a cassette before, I know for sure KCNC does.
Hows that freehub after a few hundred miles? Are the bearings and seals all black and gritty or very well sealed and clean? Thats the real measure of these new designs. I have a novatec hub thats great but needs cleaned out every 4 or 5 rides.
have a look at some of the nobel wheelsets, theyve been using the same thing for a while now and phil kmetz talks about it on his bike check video too if u want to know how it works might be worth a look
Hey guys, I'm after a new mtb as my fs bike is old, tired, rusty and i fancy going for a hardtail. I was wondering what your opinion is on the Trek Roscoe 8? I ride local trails, bike parks, hitting big mountains, jump parks and doing downhill (nothing seriously steep..), thanks.
Who supplied this demo bike? If it is canyon, this could be a good indication of the 2019 canyon spectral build kit option. I really would love a spectral with 36 FOX front and full xtr.
Sounds great I cannot afford the high price of xtr But hopefully Shimano will bring this tech to lower end XT and SLX kits Looking forward to see what happens in the future
Good they are catching up, but I've got NX and GX eagle parts showing up tomorrow. I'm not buying a freaking titanium cassette haha. Seriously though I'm glad to see progression and competition, but why did it take them so long?
hi guys, I've got XTR Di2 2x11 full in my bike I'm riding in a recreational fashion. Is there any point to go 1x12 manual shifting (Di2 is absolutely awesome) or simply stick with what I've got?.. Thanks!
I use sram xo1, I don’t even know for what I have to switch to shimano 12 speed? For sram xd you can buy a lot of interesting cassettes with a higher range, for example, e 13 or leonardi
I use the same bike, is the new CTR 12 speed is compatible to the wheelset DTswiss M1900 and doni have to change BB and Hubs? My bike has the Eagle GX and thinking of changing alog with the brakeset
I think the new brake disc design is a lot cooler, shame they went with the 2017 ones on this Spectral. I'm also a little worried, that none of the videos or pictures I have seen so far, show the new 8 mm Bolt on the cranks. I would love to see how it looks / works. I hope its not a half baked mess like the 9 Spd XTR Crank Mount System used to be :)
Lever carcass looks the same as the old ones, hopefully the lever pistons won't keep sticking, caliper piston won't seize and brakelines won't keep blowing like the previous XTR?...
Im going to sound like an idiot explaining this but ill try. At the cranks the is a "hole" where it connects to the chain wheel. Is there something I can put in the hole to keep the dirt and mud out. I was thing of putting a handle bar end plugs in them.
How come and you did not use the MT900 rotors for the BR-M9120 calipers and you went with the RT99s? Personally I find the RT99s a bit ugly. The RT86s may be a bit older than the RT99s but look prettier. Same applies and for the brand new MT900s which are better for not much than the RT99s and also I happen to never see them in action and I would really like to see how they look in idle position and while spinning.
I know I may be the only person who doesn’t like the 1x system. I still like to run a 36 up front for going down. When I went back to a 2x I was able to use a shorter cage on my rear mech to keep the ground clutter from damaging it.
I am already able to hear everything on my bike with the Deore FH-M510 so I don't really think anyone needed a new system and it's also possible to silence it even more by using thicker oil...
Interested to see how it truly compares to the GX, I have a Deore XT on my bike and I’m personally switching to a Sram NX crankset because I want 1 chainring and that is it. But I am interested in this if the price is right
Hmmm... Enduro 4 piston brake calipers, but levels without servo wave. Many pros ride this setup, but shimano still have no this option available. You have to buy separate parts.
Hmm they did copy sram very well it seems. The rubber pats on the shifter is a really nice touch. But still I get the feeling it is the same as sram is doing for years now. All on 1 clamp, 1x12, mount the sprocket on the crank without the spider (4 bolds).
ImbissBronko indeed. Also the rubber pats on the shifter, 10t to 51t, 10t to 46t, titanium and electronic shifting. That are the differents so fare as I know. Sram is working on an electronic shifter and will be available soon. :)
Remco Vlaminckx Shimano is rarely the first with things, they bring stuff out when it’s ready. SRAM is not the only one making DM cranksets pretty much everybody but Shimano. And their brakes are on a different level so luckily no copy there... :)
Those are not the new rotors. They're the existing Freeza rotors. Think the new rotors have only be seen in photos and prototypes -- not released yet to testers.
22nd! OMG!!!!!!!!!! Actually, serious question - if the new XTR enduro brake has the same stopping power as Saint DH, why bother producing Saint at all? Is Shimano phasing them out? Can Saint handle bigger rotors than XTR or something like that?
I had the same thought watching that bit! Seems a bit strange to make them just as powerful anyway, saints are a very powerful brake... Probably to powerful really for enduro
@Baptiste Carron Do you mean the XTR Enduro brake dissipates more heat than Saint? If that's the case, it's even more reason to use XTR Enduro brakes over Saint, I reckon. If you meant the other way around, apologies - my misunderstanding.
jake fazwis true. Also when u have a crew of 5-7 people out in the trail, and they all have buzzing hubs, it gets annoying quick. Can’t hear anything except that
Oliver Wadeson Each of their own... with the silent hub you can hear the buzz and grip of your tires. I’m running Hope 4 but I’d like to have a rear wheel with this hub. :)
nice, but not really that new tech apart from the extra gear and new freehub body, Dura ace and XTR cassettes have had titanium lower sprockets for over 20 years now, one of the original hollowtech2 xtr cranksets also had the same single bolt with a bearing preload adjuster instead of the 2 bolt clamp (FC-M970)
BurninatorTheTrogdor NX is cheaper made than GX Eagle and I think you might be better off with ‘ancient’ 11 speed you can get the same 11-50 cassette if you need the range. The GX Eagle is the worst rear mech I ever had. Ridiculously flimsy, drags the ground on 27,5 bike and even the grass can bend the cage out of shape. Absolutely terrible compared to the 11 speed setups (X0 and XT) I have on two of my other bikes they are problem free for years.
Hi Jickmady Kulkarnisteakbacon, we very clearly state that this video is a paid promotion by Shimano. However, it is still content that people want to see. A new XTR drivetrain is always something to shout about, and this new one especially brings the new tech that riders want to see.
Damn gmbn posting a new video nearly every day. Killing it well done.
Thanks!
That bike looks amazing
So nice!
Global Mountain Bike Network what is it?
Zargooon its a canyon spectral
And it looks especially amazing with the 36 and the XTR
Shimano is the best! And you guys are amazing, keep doing this!
Back in my day, we had 6 speed and we were grateful for it.
Another nice video, I would love the XTR, but I’ll wait for the XT’s.
My thoughts too
I saw that exact same bike on Singletrack Magazines video and I will say this again. That's literally my dream bike build right there!
GMBN amazing video!! Thank you so much for the details. I’m out of a time you only had a monthly Magazin in your hand. It is so great to see, how you have been able to Digitalizing all this!💖💖
It is so good, that I’m watching it in parallel to the soccer world championship final FRA-CRO. You are clearly the Michael Jordan of all mtb UA-cam channels!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Nice peek into Shimano's new toys!

Great in-depth review of this group set
This was 2 years ago, but the rotors shown are the old ones, previous XTR cassettes like the m9000 had titanium
The new xtr looks like the best xc groupset they've ever made, the option of a two by is genius, Shimano will always support us xc guys, thanks Shimano! Can't wait to get my hands on this groupset
Jeremy R if your riding the south downs for 40 miles and racing competition, two by is god, 1 by is good, but who ever said I need less gears for xc?
I’m still torn on loud hubs. I like hearing everything around and when watching UA-cam I like hearing other stuff over the hub, however going to bigger more populated trails that also have some multi directional sections I found where a loud hub is almost needed. Makes it easy to hear someone coming.
Sram is the pioneer but man these XTR bits look sweet! Loving the new hub! Well done shimano
It's already available on our shop's retailer's website. Crazy expensive, though :O
“Yay another I-spec standard” said no one ever...
Beautiful bike, all in all. Really like the color combo! :)
The center of the lower pulley on that derailleur actually seems to be level with the center of the upper one when using the 10 tooth ring. The only thing keeping the chain from dragging on itself is the slightly larger diameter lower pulley. I imagine that's real fun on rocky downhill sections. I've been riding MTB since '87 and have never owned a single XTR component..... not sure why really, but XT is my ceiling and SLX my floor.
Thats completely OK, that "R" in XTR means "Racing" after all. No need for XTR componets for us mere mortals :)
Ok? Cool story.
How do you feel about Zee and Saint?
Yeah, there's very rarely any need to go above. It's super nice to dream of though 🤩
Yep Tiger, totally agree. I'm a huge 'value guy' in everything I buy which is why I lean on SLX with the occasional XT component thrown in.... usually because I like the look of that XT component better than the SLX version.
When I got my first nice bike with Shimano Alivio derailleurs , they looked so good compared with the even cheaper ones, 7 x 3 speed, great times.
That groupset on that frame.... damn!
Im really looking forward to seeing how Shimano 12sp stacks up against SRAM 12sp with 12 months of riding on it
Right at the start of the video you mentioned you were not sure if you had see Titanium used on a cassette before, I know for sure KCNC does.
But have sorted out the issue of wheels? Can't use it without the hubs!! Love that spectral.
Sick video neil it looks sick
old XTR has Titanium on the cassette as well as steel
That bike is definitely a SUPER NICE
Neat presentation... It will be nice to see how this is compared to SRAM one.
Greeting from the Galilee.
Rocking the new Hans Dampf I see?
On the bike Neil was given to use to test the new XTR, yes. 😉
Global Mountain Bike Network nice! Any chance we could get a video on that?
Hi, just got my Ibis Ripley V4, and I’m torn between the xt 8120 brakes and xtr9120. Which ones you would choose ? Regards
Cant wait to see a u guys using a 1x13
Wow 12 speed
The Shimano XTR M9000 and M980 had titanium gears on the cassette
Hows that freehub after a few hundred miles? Are the bearings and seals all black and gritty or very well sealed and clean? Thats the real measure of these new designs. I have a novatec hub thats great but needs cleaned out every 4 or 5 rides.
More on the silent rear hub please.
If there is nothing to say, why are you writing? I am interested in the internal mechanics.
Think of any hope hub, then say fuck you to it. That's basically what the microspline is
have a look at some of the nobel wheelsets, theyve been using the same thing for a while now and phil kmetz talks about it on his bike check video too if u want to know how it works might be worth a look
A quiet bike is a fast bike. No energy lost through sound
It actually works similar to a coaster brake best I could describe it.
ua-cam.com/video/McOKEyV_mWY/v-deo.html
Hey guys, I'm after a new mtb as my fs bike is old, tired, rusty and i fancy going for a hardtail. I was wondering what your opinion is on the Trek Roscoe 8? I ride local trails, bike parks, hitting big mountains, jump parks and doing downhill (nothing seriously steep..), thanks.
Nice, but how consistent is the gain ratio (resistance) change between the ratio's?
Who supplied this demo bike? If it is canyon, this could be a good indication of the 2019 canyon spectral build kit option. I really would love a spectral with 36 FOX front and full xtr.
Sounds great I cannot afford the high price of xtr But hopefully Shimano will bring this tech to lower end XT and SLX kits Looking forward to see what happens in the future
How do these brakes compare to saints? Are they just better overall?
So the cassette will only fit on the xtr freehub body ?? Micro spline....????
Sweet bike! What rims are those?
Early 90’s full ti cassette lasted for years and super light was about £85 back then. Ouch.
Good they are catching up, but I've got NX and GX eagle parts showing up tomorrow. I'm not buying a freaking titanium cassette haha. Seriously though I'm glad to see progression and competition, but why did it take them so long?
Love this channel
Thanks!
hi guys, I've got XTR Di2 2x11 full in my bike I'm riding in a recreational fashion. Is there any point to go 1x12 manual shifting (Di2 is absolutely awesome) or simply stick with what I've got?.. Thanks!
Very nice! The bike isn’t bad looking either
Just gonna skip this till they come out with the 1×20
Oh boy. At that point, the cassette will be integrated into the rim, spokeless, with 150teeth or something... right???
What wheels are that? I wanted to buy this hubs, but I don't know what wheel will fit/ to choose.
BOX COMPONENTS , SUNRACE AND SRAM good to have
Please review the 2018 giant reign 2 enduro bike bc I want one but dunno much about biking
Nice cravat!
Do they use the Di2 on mountain bikes ?
I use sram xo1, I don’t even know for what I have to switch to shimano 12 speed? For sram xd you can buy a lot of interesting cassettes with a higher range, for example, e 13 or leonardi

I hope its not a half baked mess like the 9 Spd XTR Crank Mount System used to be :)
Holy crap. Is that niels new bike? It is so beautiful
Are Canyon going to offer the Spectral with this drivetrain?
There's a good chance of that, but we don't know for sure.
Lever carcass looks the same as the old ones, hopefully the lever pistons won't keep sticking, caliper piston won't seize and brakelines won't keep blowing like the previous XTR?...
How much does grip tape cost?
I am looking forward to trickle down of this XTR technology into the more affordable and (IMHO) more practical XT range.
Im going to sound like an idiot explaining this but ill try. At the cranks the is a "hole" where it connects to the chain wheel. Is there something I can put in the hole to keep the dirt and mud out. I was thing of putting a handle bar end plugs in them.
Michael Vernon it's the bottom bracket
*Adds 1 tooth to the biggest gear*
*Goes to SRAM*
*_I AM BETTER THAN YOU_*
Jeremy R they seem ok to me, could be the size or shape of ur hands lol
Well they are.
And great video!
Why not the Pinion Gearbox?
That system is not perfect
Perfection don´t exist.
But the Pinion system ist more efficent than normal Drivetrains.
Because this is talking about the new XTR
Boris Voloh Because pinion is not Shimano...
Boris Voloh Pinion has noticeable internal drag compared to a traditional drivetrain so how exactly is it more efficient?
can the dropper remote mount to ispec-II?
How come and you did not use the MT900 rotors for the BR-M9120 calipers and you went with the RT99s? Personally I find the RT99s a bit ugly. Same applies and for the brand new MT900s which are better for not much than the RT99s and also I happen to never see them in action and I would really like to see how they look in idle position and while spinning.
Hey Caster, Shimano didn't have any out of production by the time we tried the new kit. The new MT900 does look quite good though. Sleeker, less fuss.
Cool video
Thanks!
I know I may be the only person who doesn’t like the 1x system. I still like to run a 36 up front for going down. When I went back to a 2x I was able to use a shorter cage on my rear mech to keep the ground clutter from damaging it.
What the click from the hubs is part of what I love about mountain bike so much
I am already able to hear everything on my bike with the Deore FH-M510 so I don't really think anyone needed a new system and it's also possible to silence it even more by using thicker oil...
Is this your new bike Niel?
More lovely candy, XT is cool but XTR is the dessert.
great video keep it up don
Is there any 2x12 Shimano GSET?
There is! Though you can only use the 10-45t cassette. Shimano still keeping the front derailleur alive!
Global Mountain Bike Network that you...
Interested to see how it truly compares to the GX, I have a Deore XT on my bike and I’m personally switching to a Sram NX crankset because I want 1 chainring and that is it. But I am interested in this if the price is right
Jeremy R if you're considering changing your cranks to NX the price will most definitely not be right
Loved it
Hmmm... Enduro 4 piston brake calipers, but levels without servo wave. Many pros ride this setup, but shimano still have no this option available. You have to buy separate parts.
Uh guys sagmit has its edison line of bike parts
And i am impressed by their 11-52t cassette
It looks cool
is gmbn changed tyres sponsors? i see a set of Schwalbes on this magnificiant Canyon spectral...
No, it was just the bike that was used for featuring the new XTR.
Is foxter a good brand of mtb?
We're not sure, haven't hard of them.
Pls check it out
Hmm they did copy sram very well it seems. The rubber pats on the shifter is a really nice touch. But still I get the feeling it is the same as sram is doing for years now. All on 1 clamp, 1x12, mount the sprocket on the crank without the spider (4 bolds).
you can get the xtr in 2x though, correct me if im wrong
ImbissBronko indeed. Also the rubber pats on the shifter, 10t to 51t, 10t to 46t, titanium and electronic shifting. That are the differents so fare as I know. Sram is working on an electronic shifter and will be available soon. :)

Sees shimano XTR, SRAM eagle
*Goes and replaces Tourney with Acera, happy af*
Shimano is still the best!
Those are not the new rotors. They're the existing Freeza rotors. Think the new rotors have only be seen in photos and prototypes -- not released yet to testers.
Love the vids
Your channel is awesome.!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
My pleasure
That's pretty cool 😎😎
That bike tho 💗💗💗💗💗🚲🚲🚲🔥🔥🔥🔥😊😊
Great video. Was looking forward to this.
Will we see riding impressions later?
Watch this space!
22nd! OMG!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, serious question - if the new XTR enduro brake has the same stopping power as Saint DH, why bother producing Saint at all? Is Shimano phasing them out? Can Saint handle bigger rotors than XTR or something like that?
I'd say that they dissipate more heat than the non vented disk. So more endurance.
No, I was meaning the Saint discs are done to dissipate more heat if you watch the discs. :)
Saint is probably built sturdier aswell as weight doesn’t matter as much
love the silent hub. i know its not a popular opinion, but i am over all the loud hubs.
Same
+1
I prefer it because your in nature and i like the feeling of just hearing the wilderness
jake fazwis true. Also when u have a crew of 5-7 people out in the trail, and they all have buzzing hubs, it gets annoying quick. Can’t hear anything except that
I love the new xtr but the silent hub ruins it for me, I love to hear the loud buzz of a hub behind me on the trail
Oliver Wadeson Each of their own... with the silent hub you can hear the buzz and grip of your tires. I’m running Hope 4 but I’d like to have a rear wheel with this hub. :)
Tamas Vargay if I could have any hub, it would be a halo supa drive, with 120 points of engagement, I don't know why, I just love the sound 😂💯🤘
Oliver Wadeson I would like to switch between silent and loud depending on my mood :)
nice, but not really that new tech apart from the extra gear and new freehub body, Dura ace and XTR cassettes have had titanium lower sprockets for over 20 years now, one of the original hollowtech2 xtr cranksets also had the same single bolt with a bearing preload adjuster instead of the 2 bolt clamp (FC-M970)
You're right on the old XTR cranksets, thanks for pointing it out. Do you think they should've stayed with the pinch bolts?
Hopefully this is better than Sram Eagle... I HATE EAGLE. Only works if the derailer is perfect and just gives me loads of shifting problems...
I WANT ONE.....
Too bad i cant afford it....
Few can! But hopefully we'll see that famous 'trickle down' effect and get the fresh tech on XT and SLX groupsets soon.
BUT MY ONLY BIKE IS A HARDTAIL
It has a shimano deore groupset
That bike looks so small but it’s so sick
When I think of XTR 12 speed I think of SRAM NX Eagle. Because I'm a poor bastard.
BurninatorTheTrogdor welcome to the club. Man that was funny
BurninatorTheTrogdor ha i have just ordered sunrace mx8 11--50 for 60$. Turns out you're not the poorest out here lol
Tamas Varga huh good to know
If You think about 12sp XTR, You simply can't think about NX Eagle. Because NX Eagle is pretty shitty compared to 12sp XTR.
Wow, a 7+ minute advertisement for Shimano.
Hi Jickmady Kulkarnisteakbacon, we very clearly state that this video is a paid promotion by Shimano. However, it is still content that people want to see. A new XTR drivetrain is always something to shout about, and this new one especially brings the new tech that riders want to see.
