This still wont sway me from my current 11 speed eThirteen 9-46 cassette. much less inexpensive and uses a common XD hub driver, as well as using the 11 speed shifter and derailleur that most of us already have.
I personally won't be going for a 12 speed for 2 main reasons... 1) Very expensive for me as will be clear in the second reason 2) I live in Britain and so during the winter, even with looking after it, all of the parts of the bike just get destroyed.
If I was was going 12 speed I certainly would use gx eagle which is hundreds of dollars cheaper and the only major difference being weight and a new hub standard
Anyone here thinking like: in 15 years when this becomes very old technology i might get it because curently my bike costs much less than this drivetrain.
I used to race mountain bikes in the 90s and I had extremely good bike handling skills (several years of riding off road with double leather strapped, caged pedals using road cleats; i.e., I was completely locked in unless I reached down to swipe the straps. It was before clipless pedals came out) and I could bunny hop a 1 foot tall log at high speed, but I never learned to wheelie (in my defense, my XC bike wasn’t really set up for it). Wheelies are cool, but you can still be hardcore without knowing how to do it.
The engagement on the scylence hub is really impressive. Everything else in this groupset is pretty impressive, but the hub I think is the real major innovation here.
Next bike, when I can afford it, will most likely have 12 speed groupset. Like Shimano but I've not ridden alternatives. For the haters of the on bike cam work, I thought it was funny. Seems like the camera guy with GMBN got a new toy to play with and was having fun with the background in the process.
Two questions. How do you like those new POC knee pads? Do they stay on well during a crash? And how about the new XTR pedals? Are they noticeably different than the previous versions?
The new xtr’s silent hub is a little bit weird for me. Because here the philippines the majority of our mountain biking community prefers a louder hub. Ride safe everyone ✌️
The elephant in the room with these huge cassettes is their mass. Less mass = better suspension performance. Yes it simplifies your cockpit but it relocates some of the mass from the centre of the bike (sprung mass) to the back wheel (unsprung mass).
That silent hub will make it easier to figure what what the back wheels are going through. Now if only they make it in the SLX or even Deore price point.
I'm getting a new bike for my birthday, its between a canyon spectral cf 8.0 and a canyon torque al 7.0. I want a bike that can hit some big downhill like jumps but is also capable of climbing back up the mountain I've just come down...please let me know what bike is best..thanks 👍🏼
Abdul Mafin Look for a bike for your riding style. Then look for a bike in your price range. If you are looking for a bike for trail use I would personally recommend the specialized pitch comp it is around $700.
Hey Digiknut, this video was a part of a paid promotion from Shimano. We marked it clearly in the video on the bottom left. It's also just cool to see new drivetrains, no matter the manufacturer.
I, unlike Neil can tell easily, when my cranks are no good. It's the broken in half crank arm stuck in my leg, that lets me tell so quickly ha ha ha Other than that, I can't tell the difference either and never broken a crank arm. I think it's like with RC cars these days. The can tumble, fall from height, flip over many times with no damage. It's the impact of something that is permanently stuck to the ground that is breaking them. Most crank arms snap on impact of the pedal against a rock or tree, WITH rider on the bike, making the bike "heavy". "Empty" bike can take a good tumble without breaking too.
I think all this is new Shimano stuff is very cool but I'm not sure I see the significant difference between even lower X01 Eagle. I do like that Shimano caught up and refined the 12 sp a bit. Competition is good. I can't say that the nicer eagle stuff is anything other than spectacular tho. Those new XTR brakes might be finally the ideal brake. I think the average user needs the extra power even if they aren't flying simply because it's easier on the dang hands if you are ever on a fast/steeper run. However sheesh the amount of lever throw there was still pretty ugly. Im guessing that kind of adjustment is still beyond shimano (bite point) which seems silly since it's 2018..must have bite point
360° camera use needs reworking, I am not in the 360 hater camp. The wide fish eye crop front and rear facing shown is bad, if you need to chop Neil's arms off for good video fit, please do. Maybe play around with a less invisible forward extension pole so it is easier to crop in a more pleasant FOV of the presenter. If the experiments works out, then GoPro upgrade would be nice to get pass the soft image when cropped in.
A 2015 Fatboy specialized with a 4.6 tires in the factory I'm upgrading to a 12 speed for all the Fantastic range of the t 50 cassette almost no one is showing him race uphill they may do a little bit of a pass but they don't do anything any major uphill everybody's trying to push an e-bike and I don't want that but they're not wanting to show the true power within that sprocket Orca said however you want to word it
I’m a 12 year old boy that loves mountain biking and trail biking and and I watch your Chanel every day and I still can’t do a bunny hop so could you please help me do it and I love you guys
Will you be going 12 speed? Let us know your thoughts on the new offering from shimano in the comments 👇
I would love to go with the new Shimano XTR, but out of my budget.
X01 or gx eagle still seem to be the key. What's the new camera and how does it work? I see Blake use it on his Instagram alot
This still wont sway me from my current 11 speed eThirteen 9-46 cassette. much less inexpensive and uses a common XD hub driver, as well as using the 11 speed shifter and derailleur that most of us already have.

pls stop w the fisheye lens
JogBird agreed not the best bit of videoing 😂
I think it is the go pro fusion but I agree it is hard to watch.
Holy cow this is a good vid thanks guys for providing good mountain bike content for everyone!
You're welcome Ethan, feedback like this is why we do it
Neil + New Shimano XTR = Ninja Rider!
do ninjas often have problems with their groupsets?
I wouldn't know, they're too quick, BAHAHAHH
Anyone here thinking like: in 15 years when this becomes very old technology i might get it because curently my bike costs much less than this drivetrain.
Fisheye lens, ummm, needs to go! Like throw it away and never use it again...
U guys are legendary I can’t even wheelie a bike but I love what u guys do
Keep trying Daniel, you'll get there eventually
Daniel Huggins I agree but I can do a wheelie so do you trail bike
It doesn’t matter what you can do, it matters if you have fun doing it
I used to race mountain bikes in the 90s and I had extremely good bike handling skills (several years of riding off road with double leather strapped, caged pedals using road cleats; i.e., I was completely locked in unless I reached down to swipe the straps. Like the look of this 12 speed, doesn't look like a mashup of different bits on the cassette.
Love that bike btw. :)
The engagement on the scylence hub is really impressive. Everything else in this groupset is pretty impressive, but the hub I think is the real major innovation here.
Thanks Neil, always enjoy you reviews. You don’t fluff it too much and I know you can ride.
It's a pleasure to see Neil riding, great skills!
Dude this POV is wicked!
Fish eye camera is brutal.making me dizzy.
me too
Yeh I love the shots of the 360 camera but they can't be used much
It's good to see Shimano's new offering lives up to what I generally expect from Shimano components.
I'm going to wait for 13-speed.
sbdstudent m it’s already out
The wait is over. It’s made by Rotor
placing the 360 cam on the riders helmet can give a cool 3rd person view!
I really love the silent freehub.
I don't know for you guys, but for me the Canyon Spectral is most beautiful mountain bike ever made.
I know right, hopefully going to be able to get one in a month or so :D
TeKnik lucky you
i almost bought one, ended up with a Ti hardtail. Spectral is indeed gorgeous
I love the loud rear end.
I always enjoy your vids, and they always put a smile on my face.
All that 360 camera stuff makes the video very disorienting, almost nauseating.
Sorry that it makes you feel like that!
The 360 shots are siiiick
Are you trying out Rylo cam in this vid?
that gopro fusion shot is sick!
Awesome video Neil!!
wonder when it will be available can't wait to see if xt gets the same.
Man the now gopro camera makes this video so great
Also the amazing editing
Next bike, when I can afford it, will most likely have 12 speed groupset. Like Shimano but I've not ridden alternatives.
For the haters of the on bike cam work, I thought it was funny. Seems like the camera guy with GMBN got a new toy to play with and was having fun with the background in the process.
Did you notice any difference with the new pedals? You did not mention them in the video.
What's your opinion about the new Spectral?
Actually with the new hubs of XTR, you can hear the good sound of speed⚡🔥
😂
Loved the fish eye camera on the climb looked like you were on the edge of the earth.
Two questions. How do you like those new POC knee pads? Do they stay on well during a crash? And how about the new XTR pedals? Are they noticeably different than the previous versions?
How is compared to the Eagle system?
um the eagle shits all over it
Wow, Sylence is insane.
I LOVE a quiet ride!! I am in
1:28 Explain this flatearthers.. 😂😂
XTR or XX1 Eagle?
Miguel Macias sram big time for shifting but Shimano for brakes I have my bike set up like that after trying different set ups
Hey mate, what camera did you used?
Looks decent I don't like the lack of sound from the hub though
Answer my question thank you.How long is your handlebar?
The GoPro Fusion is so cool
The new xtr’s silent hub is a little bit weird for me. Because here the philippines the majority of our mountain biking community prefers a louder hub. Ride safe everyone ✌️
Gabriel celestial tunog mayaman 😂
frederick sta ana exactly sir haha ung bgong xtr hndi tunog mayaman pero pang mayaman 😂 💸💸
Are those 3 meter handlebars nice to ride with? :-) Dang they look wide!
Guys great product tech review and ride !! thank i will be using xtr on my new chameleon frame!
Any news on their 2x solution? It seems to be only a paper release so far.
What is that fork?
Very cool vid as usual. If you have a double in front though, and you can’t afford to change it all to a single, what’s the new group set name I need?
What watch are you wearing Neil ?
The elephant in the room with these huge cassettes is their mass. Less mass = better suspension performance. Yes it simplifies your cockpit but it relocates some of the mass from the centre of the bike (sprung mass) to the back wheel (unsprung mass).
We'll ask Doddy about this, it's certainly worth investigating.
How did you get that camera 360 like as if i was watching magic
I have a qeustion can i put this Shimano xtr On my specialized camber 2011
Will you guys ever do another givaway
woah how do you do those globe shots? Can you edit the video in some app or do you have to record it like that? [e.g. with the moving]
1:27 Music video humble starts playing
Does this have the lever like the xt M8000 that you can lock your mech ?????
Don't know, thats one for Doddy....
Dr4g0nW00d doesn't look like
A clutch?
Shoes?
the really intersting thing is the silent rear hub.. where i come from, for lots of people, good hub = lots of noise.
It's all a matter of taste!
How come none of you have the new spectral?
We hope to be getting one in the office soon
I would love the hear your opinion on the new spectral!
Global Mountain Bike Network hopefully soon
rylo camera???
Cool video🚴♂️
All I could think is "Oh gawd this must be Neil's wife's view," when they did the fisheye lense on tHe climb. I can't unsee that shit, MY EYES!
Is this launched yet for purchase???
It looks like it's available on pre order on many sites
That silent hub will make it easier to figure what what the back wheels are going through. Now if only they make it in the SLX or even Deore price point.
We hope they will!
This so sick! Great vid! I. I JUST SUBSCRIBED!
I'm getting a new bike for my birthday, its between a canyon spectral cf 8.0 and a canyon torque al 7.0. I want a bike that can hit some big downhill like jumps but is also capable of climbing back up the mountain I've just come down...please let me know what bike is best..thanks 👍🏼
ibis mojo hd4
wish i could have that spectral this christmas...
Wasn't the enduro groupset supposed to stay 11s ?
wut do you mean for xc racers 12 speed 11-45?
I don´t get the differences between all these drives. Except the weight and gears i have no idea.
But while Shimano release 12 speed Rotor released a 13 speed drivetrain.
I WISH I COULD AFFORD A BIKE LIKE THAT
I feel the 3d fish eye video effect was bad for demonstrating the hill climb/descent
why canyon dont sell spectral with 36 :(
coz its a trail bike.
Baggy Boys canyon move spectral from group3 there rating to 4 where strive is and strive has 36 why spectral not :)
A bit curious. Drone or a basic Go Pro???
It's gopro fusion you can do these stuff using that camera
Can give a basic tip for choosing a bike...... I am a beginner...
Abdul Mafin
Look for a bike for your riding style. Then look for a bike in your price range. If you are looking for a bike for trail use I would personally recommend the specialized pitch comp it is around $700.
Good vidéo
What's your personal unbiased opinion on the new xtr components Neil?
Hey Digiknut, this video was a part of a paid promotion from Shimano. We marked it clearly in the video on the bottom left. It's also just cool to see new drivetrains, no matter the manufacturer.
Do make a video on different types of bikes :)
I'm sure this will become more affordable when Shimano trickles this down to XT and SLX versions. Too expensive now
I, unlike Neil can tell easily, when my cranks are no good. It's the broken in half crank arm stuck in my leg, that lets me tell so quickly ha ha ha
Other than that, I can't tell the difference either and never broken a crank arm. I think it's like with RC cars these days. The can tumble, fall from height, flip over many times with no damage. Top of the range? Who should GMBN send to test it out?🤔 well premium Neil of course!😆
SRAM NX or this one?
You choose, but we like the look of this new XTR, maybe it'll become available in Di2 soon....
anything but shimano, so yes nx is the go
I’ve said this in many GMBN videos before... I love Don #Homo4Don
Dwarf Terrace-9 Rick and Morty would be proud.
I think all this is new Shimano stuff is very cool but I'm not sure I see the significant difference between even lower X01 Eagle. I do like that Shimano caught up and refined the 12 sp a bit. Hopefully competition with SRAM makes it better for everyone involved. Cheaper better components with more bite

What's so hard in just recording a short RAW RIDING VIDEO... :(
Still on 3x8 speed set.... Thinking to to to 3x9 lol
Looks like shimano has upped the ante
i love how the vid is all about the groupset, and the first 4 shots of the video doesnt include any pedaling
I thought that too Ben loewen.
sorry, i meant drivetrain
Lol just watching the details of that
A 2015 Fatboy specialized with a 4.6 tires in the factory I'm upgrading to a 12 speed for all the Fantastic range of the t 50 cassette almost no one is showing him race uphill they may do a little bit of a pass but they don't do anything any major uphill everybody's trying to push an e-bike and I don't want that but they're not wanting to show the true power within that sprocket Orca said however you want to word it
I thought everybody likes the hub clicks, my kids do
pretty sweet. the silent free hub is...... silly to say the least. i mean, why?
@MJD cool. but unless it's like a Hope hub, then too quiet.
Love your vids wish i had that bike and hopefully I win the give away at GMBN tech
I hate the seat tube on that canyon.
Finally Shimano developed something Sram did 6 years ago....
Had to pause the video to make sure I wasn't haaaiii, lol.
I’m a 12 year old boy that loves mountain biking and trail biking and and I watch your Chanel every day and I still can’t do a bunny hop so could you please help me do it and I love you guys
they have made a video on how to bunnyhop
Check out our bunny hop videos here: gmbn.eu/bunnyhopplaylist
any flat earthers still believe after this video?
Wrong video section dude
