    - Fossils!
    - GRINDING;
    - a horribly unbalanced god-awful tier pokemon and a lot of examples why that is the case;

    Hot take: since body slam would be pretty much worthless against Steven anyways, you probably could have won if you swapped it out for Harden of all moves using a heart scale. As long as you don't get toxic from skarmory, you should be able to boost defense enough that you could power through an earthquake and heal off shell bell. Just my hypothesis though.

    • @mayborneflower

      Set up on Cradily instead. It’s not much of an attacker, both his STAB moves and confusion damage are negligible, and Shell Bell plays off nicely against its utter refusal to get OHKO’d (which prompts Full Restore spam) and access to Ingrain.

      That's only by base stat. In a damage calc triple defense would be worth a moderate amount less and since evs are additive they provide more percentage benefit to lower stats. Magcargo is legitimately more vulnerable to water moves in this game than Slugma is.

    • @KeithTheGeek
      @KeithTheGeek 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I kinda wonder why people were telling him to use Magcargo. Water moves TECHNICALLY do more damage to Magcargo but Slugma dies just as quickly to them in most situations anyways... Fighting moves end up doing less despite the 2x boost because of how much more defense Magcargo has over Slugma.

    The Ash/Region run. It is similar to the "New team every gym" challenge except you can only use pokemon you catch on the routes between the previous gym and the next one.
    Each Gym is considered a region, and after finishing a gym you must deposit all but one pokemon. Until you defeat the next gym, you can only use pokemon you find on the following route(s), even if you have used one before. The Pokemon you are carrying through can only be used if all others have been defeated in a battle, as a backup. For extra challenge, try to beeline to the Gym as quick as possible.

    It’s really simple, you have to play and beat the main quest line while you’re doing that Lleywin scamp quest (the one where you take the staff of everscamp from the lady and return to its shrine), the main drawback is that you’re slower than you’re usually and you’re constantly surrounded by a group of disposable, but still lovable scamp friends. Inspired by you, I tried a Slugma/Magcargo run too. Luckily mine was Hasty (gotta go fast), female (immune to Luvdisc's Attract), and had a 65 BP Hidden Power Grass. It could be titled "How I learned to stop worrying and love Fire Blast" towards the end. Here's how I won some important battles:
    - Roxanne done at 22 (mdb at 27). Yawn and Harden did the job with the help of the AI using status moves at times.
    - Brawly at 24. Yawned Machop, set up Harden so the AI feels the need to boost w/ bulk up instead of attacking me, then set up once or twice more when it's asleep, 2hko w/ ember.
    You have to always attack Meditite because Focus Punch is dangerous. Ember can 2hko, but depleting Brawly's potions with Rock Throw is better. Stall out the light screen if it puts that up.
    Yawn Makuhita, use Harden. it's very bulky. Beware of Reversal when it's below half. Use Harden instead of attacking further and risking a big reversal after it wakes up.
    - The rival on the way to Mauville is a nightmare. I was at level 31. I made a save state to see if it's better to sacrifice Rock Throw for Amnesia (I had doubts about the mid-term consequences, but still). Put Lombre to sleep to set up Amnesias and Hardens on it. You only 3hko the Slugma, but the worst it can do is use Yawn, in which case you just Yawn it back. Make sure to be awake against the Marshtomp. I put it to sleep and spammed Ember.
    - Got rid of Amnesia for Winona. Set up Hardens in advance to take Altaria's Earthquake.
    - Beat Maxie in his hideout at 55 like you, but i gave Magcargo a Persim Berry, Yawned Mightyena and set up 2 Hardens on it. the AI seems to prioritize speed-lowering moves if you're faster, so it used Scary Face then tried to Swagger. I reached +1 attack, ate a weakened Earthquake but bringing Camerupt to red with Rock Slide. Maxie's Super Potion didn't heal enough, so it was dead. I wasn't gonna outspeed Crobat even without Scary Face anyway.
    - Against T&L, I had to drop some defense EVs to invest in special attack and special defense. I beat them at 59. Needed to one-shot Claydol with fire blast, so I had to equip a Charcoal. Put Lunatone to sleep before it could get annoying, but then Xatu used Confuse Ray. If I hit just a little harder, I could have held a Lum or Persim instead. Luckily I only lost one turn to confusion. Threw rocks at Xatu, then Solrock came out. It loves using Sunny Day and then Solar Beam off its shitty special attack, so I used a powered up Fire Blast on Lunatone to get rid of it. Solrock was no threat at all.
    Fun fact: 120 bp fire blast under the sun from a fire type to a rock type actually does more than an 65 bp grass move. STAB makes it 180, then sun 270. Even when cut down to 135 by the resistance, 135>130.
    - Beat Juan at a nice level in a save state, but that's a bit too inconsistent for my taste. Deleted anything but Kingdra with Hidden Power (65 BP, Grass), but had to set up Amnesia on Sealeo to prepare for Kingdra. I think Luvdisc critting me led Kingdra to attack instead of setting up Double Teams, which would have been more annoying. I'd popped the Rock Tomb TM to slow the Kingdra down and possibly flinch it, but one evasion boost would have reduced Rock Tomb's accuracy to Hypnomiss levels.
    On another attempt, I lost less HP by setting up on Luvdisc with a Persim Berry, so I won.
    - I beat Drake @ 89. The other E4 members were easy, but Drake resists fire and my physical attack is crap. Not to mention Flygon resists rock too anyway. I'd gotten rid of all my defense EVs, Rock Tomb and Amnesia for Harden and Substitute before entering the building. I planned to make my subs unbreakable against physical attacks with Harden, and if I timed it right, my sub could have even withstood Salamence's Dragon Claw, allowing me to face Kingdra under a sub. Actually I couldn't time it right, so Mence broke my damaged sub, but Kingdra flinched and this changed everything.
    When I decided to test my theory by timing my subs more carefully, I won easily. As long as you land your Rock Slides and Fire Blasts, you're good.
    - Beat Wallace @ 89 too with two different methods. The first one was very haxy, so I didn't like it. I had Substitute, Fire Blast, Rock Slide and Earthquake, and held a White Herb to retain my attack despite Gyarados' Intimidate. I lost more than 1/4 HP to Wailord's Water Spout, so couldn't have survived Milotic's Surf if my Rock Slide didn't crit (or flinch for that matter).
    Second time around, I had Substitute, Protect, Rock Slide and Fire Blast and held a Shell Bell. I stalled out Wailord's Water Spout with Protect and Substitute, then attacked. It used Rain Dance, so I had to stall out the rain turns too. One-shot Ludicolo without the rain, but I wasn't affected by Gyarados' Intimidate thanks to the sub. I threw rocks at it, then Tentacruel came. Rock Slide made it flinch, but even so, the chance of Tentacruel landing its Hydro Pump without getting flinched was 56%, about the same chance as Sing, Disable and stuff. I two-shot it, then Milotic destroyed my sub, and barely survived Whiscash to two-shot it.
    - Steven @ 90. Set up Hardens on Skarmory under subs, then spammed Fire Blasts under the sun. Claydol can get annoying if it sets a Light Screen, though.
