  • I do a running commentary while drawing from a video I shot at a food centre in Singapore. This is to simulate how I draw on location and you'll also get to hear my thoughts and decisions as I draw.

    Hello, I am a newer subscriber to all the content at your channel. I like how you share your art, and incorporate meal times or food into it. Food is a big part of our lives, and we can all relate. I am inspired and learning a lot. I keep going back and forth between pencil and pen as I am learning to sketch more. I want to build up to doing only ink. Thanks, Paula

      Haha yes unintentionally, food features in my videos. Perhaps it’s because meal time is when I find time to sketch. Happy to meet another food lover. Why only inks? I’ve been doing inks for quite awhile. But I’ve now been learning more pencil too. Both are wonderful mediums:)

    I appreciated hearing your process! Maybe I’m getting too in the weeds here, but I’d be more weirded out by someone recording me and that footage being online than someone sketching me. Are there rules around this with people not consenting to being filmed? Where I live, I think if you’re in a public place you can’t reasonably assume privacy but if that recording is then used to generate revenue, you may have to get written consent from the subjects or blur them out.

    • @Drewscape-art
      @Drewscape-art  Місяць тому +1

      I appreciate this! Thanks for bringing this to my attention again. I was really worried about this whenever I recorded anything in public for youtube videos, because there would always be people passing by in the scenes and I can't possibly ask all of them for consent. I did look it up. For public spaces, I read that it is ok. But when it comes to filming minors, I should blur them out or get written consent. Being a parent myself, I'd be concerned about my kids in someone's public video. As for adults, even though there is no rule for filming them in public spaces such as these, I still want to be considerate. So with the angle I shot this video, it is difficult to identify most of them since they are shot mostly from a side or back view. And they don't stay still for long. As for the food stall owners with their own stall, I feel that they face the public all day and the video promotes their business (with a food review at the end) so I feel ok with it. Putting myself in their shoes, I'd be ok. Recently, I did consider doing a video with people in a coffee cafe, but it would be too close-up. Although it's a public space, if I were secretly being filmed so close-up, even with blurred out face, I wouldn't like it. So I scrapped the idea. We do want to be considerate with that too even without a rule. Thanks for reminding me of this again. I'm glad you did. It is food for thought. I do want to be careful with this, while still producing videos that contribute to the art community:)

    You seem to know a lot about pens. Do you know of a pen that mimics the texture of a dried out brush pen? I used to have a dried out brush pen that I’d use for shading but I lost it 😢

    • @Drewscape-art
      @Drewscape-art  Місяць тому

      Such an interesting question. I do have probably too many pens. In fact yes, there might be other ways but it is possible to use an old zig calligraphy marker with dried out ink for that effect. I used it here: drewscape.blogspot.com/2012/11/ghim-moh-cat.html?m=1

      @@Drewscape-art oh what a beautiful drawing. I’m sorry if my question wasn’t clear. I meant if you know where I can buy a pen manufactured to mimic a dried brush pens texture. I don’t want to dry out any of my current brush pens to make a new one for shading. I’d rather buy one but I can’t seem to find any online if such a thing exists.

    • @Drewscape-art
      @Drewscape-art  Місяць тому

      @@hayrjohns Ah I get you. Well for brush pens and pens, the ink flow would be more or less consistent. So to get a dried brush effect, I'd have to adjust my speed. When my speed is faster than the ink flow, then the dried brush effect comes about. It should be possible with a Pentel Pocket brush pen . Or brush pens like these ua-cam.com/video/TOKTdQ1Vfw8/v-deo.html. Though personally, I'd just use a cheap or old scraggy brush to get that effect. Or I'd use a real brush with a bit of chinese ink. Chinese ink is great for achieving a dried brush effect. Pigments are different than indian ink. One other option is a parallel pen. But I would have to control it a certain way to get that dried brush look.
