Helen you are a wonderful teacher - you speak clearly, you explain thoroughly, and you make it easy to understand. Thank you so much. Be blessed, Marlene
Excellent video! My award winning framer retired and I have been reluctant to try anyone else. I’m thinking of framing myself and your video was very helpful. Thank you!
Fabulous tutuorial- you take the scary out of framing and explain and show things slowly which is so very helpful. Thank you so much for taking time to do this. I watch you often and always love your common sense tips and tricks. It’s interesting how much I still don’t know and I’ve been cross stitching since 1985.
The d rings brought back a childhood memory. My mom would have my dad poke a hole in the bottom of a pop can tab and nail it to the back of the frame as a hanger. We make-do with what we have. I still have a crewel piece I stitched in my teens with a pop tab hanger.
Thanks a million for this video and the Part 2! You gave me the knowledge and confidence to successfully redo a “big box” framing job and exponentially improve my satisfaction with my little project! (Wish I could send you pictures.) Thank you, thank you!
Oh my gosh Helen. This is wonderful. I am so intimidated about framing that I will not even walk through the section of frames at my Michael's store. Thank you so much for this video. I am off to watch part two now.
This video is chock-full of helpful info. Thank you, Helen! I've only ever framed using picture frames, but I now feel so much better informed about purchasing open-backed frames. Looking forward to part 2 =).
I have a stack of pieces that need framing including a birth sampler that is long overdue. I think that the last piece that I actually framed was my parents's 50th anniversary sampler which needs reframing in 1986. It has cardboard on the back with tiny brads to hold it in. I want to take it apart and redo it. With your great help, inow feel more confident to actually get these pieces done. Thank you so much for an excellent tutorial!
Thank you so much, Helen, for such a useful video (saved for future reference!). It has given me the confidence to have a go once again at framing a cross stitch piece. I tried once before a couple of years ago and the lovely frame I ordered was covering the edges of my cross stitched piece. Yes, I hadn’t thought about the ‘rabbit’. In fact I had never even heard of it!!.. Now I am a little wiser I will try again! Looking forward to part 2!
The off set clips can be used with the low side screwed into the frame and the high side of the clip against the backing. This is helpful when your rabbitt is too shallow and everything is sticking above the back of the frame.
Great info and perfect timing-- I am headed to my local big box stores to try to find a frame for my Mercy and Grace piece I just finished. This has helped complete my shopping list. Love your tutorials -- THANKS 💗
Again, you’re a great teacher. I tried to go back to see the reflection of Emmy drinking your water but couldn’t see her! Drats! Thank you for sharing. 💙💙💙
You are awesome Helen! You not only showed us what supplies you use but showed additional options. The time and work you put into this is very much appreciated!!! I look forward to part two. 😊
Used this video to frame my first piece except I used plastic tacks (micro stitch tacks gun via Amazon) instead of pins ...very easy to use. When I went to local frame shop to buy spacer (my Michael doesn't sell it) and she mentioned that they use plastic tacks to attach to foam board. Thanks
Hi Helen, I've watched you for over a year and have just noticed that your ceiling light in front of your stairs is the same as ours. 😄 I'm so observant. I've framed a number of my stitches and found your video to be very thorough for those wishing to start DIYing their own work. I hadn't seen those "spring clips" before. They remind me of the "turning button" type clip that usually slide into a rabbet slot, but they've attached to the backer. The ones you have are definitely longer. There have been times where my rabbet is barely wide enough to squeeze my glass/acrylic, and foamcore mounted stitch into. Those types of clip would make it so much easier to hold all of that inside the frame. Oh, the spacers? 😂 Yes, impossible to come by! Michaels nor hobby lobby would sell them to me early this year. I ordered some off of eBay. I don't comment often, but I appreciate you! Thanks!
Thank you so much, Helen, I learned a lot today. I have so many things that I could be framing and I love that I can go back and watch again. I really appreciate your time and all your great information.
Great talk! Having worked in a custom framing shop and art gallery, I thought your talk was pretty thorough. Rabbet is French for a recessed place, so you could think of a rabbit hole or recessed area. When a frame is narrow, as the one you mentioned as 7/8", that is the face of the frame. When looking at it, it is quite narrow.
Another great how-to class from you! I took framing classes MANY years ago, but haven't retained most of the info. Your video served as a mini-refresher. Thank you so much for your time and attention to detail in all your videos! Looking forward to part 2.
Your video is so helpful. I am stitching a piece and think that I want to frame it myself. Your video is just what I need to get started. Looking forward to part II. Thanks so much!
Great information! A lot of the information that you covered I have been wondering about! I am watching this again with my tablet and pencil! 🙂 Looking forward to part 2! Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and tips for framing. It was so helpful. I have had good luck ordering from Custom Frames online. Lots of good options and they are currently having a 40% off sale.
Perfect timing, Helen. I’m thinking of making July my finishing month. I have a few things that need to be completed. Thanks for always keeping us aware of possibilities.
Helen that is very helpful. Just this week, I pinned my piece to foam core board. I was so proud. I had put batting behind the piece. Put it in the frame and it was too thick. I couldn’t use the easel back of the frame. I ended up taking out the pins and taping it to mat board so that I could use the back. I didn’t know about the hardware that you showed to keep the layers in the frame. I’ll go get myself some supplies. Thanks for the suggestions.
Helen you are a wonderful teacher - you speak clearly, you explain thoroughly, and you make it easy to understand. Thank you so much. Be blessed, Marlene
Thank you Marlene!

I love that stitchers are always learning from one another!
Never too old to learn a few new tricks. You are an excellent instructor, with clear directions and a you-can-do attitude.

D rings really are just fancy soda tabs! 😂
Thanks Helen, I've always shied away from purchasing frames online because of the measuring challenges. Your explanation is perfect.
Thanks, Helen for practical framing information. Your explanations were very clear and very helpful. Really appreciate!
I hope they help take some of the mystery out of framing for you!
This video is chock-full of helpful info. Thank you, Helen! I've only ever framed using picture frames, but I now feel so much better informed about purchasing open-backed frames. Looking forward to part 2 =).
Open backed frames need a couple of extra steps, but once you get the hang of it you'll be hooked!
Thank you for sharing all your great information. Have a wonderful week 😊🧵🪡🤗🤩
Thank you Helen, so nice of you to do this video!
I appreciate you sharing all your techniques and knowledge🤗.
Thanks so much Helen! Have my list written down for the future. Look forward to part 2.

She just has to be part of the video!
Thanks, Helen! You explain things so well!
You are awesome Helen! You not only showed us what supplies you use but showed additional options. The time and work you put into this is very much appreciated!!! I look forward to part two. 😊
Thanks for this! For spacers, I use a thin slice of mat board. Maybe not archival, but my stitching will never be in a museum.
I've done that before too! It can be tricky to cut them thin enough though 😂
Awesome information you shared Helen…thanks so much❤❤

The spring clips work great. I used them for years before I finally decided to invest in the point driver.
Very nicely done, Helen. Thank you!

There are so many different ways to close up the back of the frame! I'm sure I didn't touch on them all! 😉
