I know this is relatively old, but I've been weight bearing now for almost a month; however, my progression has been slow. I can put 50% of my weight on the foot, but the hardest thing is walking with one crutch. I haven't gone to physical therapy yet, but I wanted to know of going to physical therapy really helped with the weight bearing progression.
It absolutely did! They helped cater my progression to my personal progress and abilities - and they gave me stretches and massage to help facilitate that.
I just had ankle surgery but i literally forgot how to walk and im going on day 9. The dr said im able to walk but i am moving my ankle up and down and it just hurts.
I'm on day 3 of my boot after 7 weeks in a cast completely non weight bearing (3 breaks and dislocation needed surgery for plates and pins) and I'm so scared doing my stretches but it's it's painful and disheartening! I hope I'm walking by day 10 like this
You've already made it through the worst part, Jade! Now you get to start making progress :) If you need some support from other ankle breakers, we just launched our community forum webroken.com/community. I'm on there every day too to help with anything I can!
Hi , I know these videos are over a year old but I'm going through the same things right now ! I had surgery about 3 weeks ago and now the doctor is telling me I can start putting pressure on my foot with the boot on . I just wanted to know if it was a hard process for you and if your foot ever swell during this time period ? Please and thank you if you cn answer me back . It will be highly appreciated.
Tamara Osborne Hi Tamara! I'm so sorry you're going through this. I felt that weight bearing was much easier than non-weight bearing because you actually get to be proactive. It's not an easy process, but at least it's progress, you know? My foot did swell when I began putting pressure on it, but nothing that a compression sock, some elevation and ice couldn't help. If you want tons of details about the weight bearing process - everything I went through, tips for healing, and what you can expect, you should check out my eBook! I think it may help to put your mind at ease :) gumroad.com/l/whattoexpectwhenyoubreakyourankle
Hi, do you think it is okay to walk with only a cane after 11 weeks after the ankle surgery? I did the other day and I truly hope my bones didn't shift
With the boot on when putting full weight on your ankle did you ever experience pins and needles
