I bought my 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 2 or 3 years ago for $55,000 I sold it about a year later for $56,000. So I lost money on taxes, and maintenance / repairs. The small loss of money was totally worth it! For me personally owning that car was something I never thought growing up I would be able to do. So the achievement for me was well worth it. If I can find another clean one in that price range I may buy one again. Great video by the way very informative keep it up.
Fourwheel Trader - Car depreciation analysis It was fun. It wasn't as cool as I expected tho. At the time I also had a 800hp 1996 Toyota Supra. The Supra was a better car. The 360 felt fragile. The Supra is as a reliable as any other Toyota. The 360 broke when I bought it and broke the day after I sold it. I hear the 458 is reliable. But they are still 140k on the low end. Owning a "Ferrari" tho was a physiological achievement for me. And most people I encountered asked if it was new lol and always asked how fast it is. Funny the look on there faces when I would say it's slow lol. Overall glad I owned it and am considering getting one again.
I have a 2004 Modena Manual Gated 6 speed with 50K Miles on it now, and its one of the most reliable car i've ever owned , have had it 1 year and put 10K miles on it with no issues. Would sell for less than $90 - $100K even at these miles
Like button smashed even before watching the video! You're reading my mind and doing videos pretty much about every option I've considered while shopping for my 981S! keep up the great work mate! Cheers from Italy
I just bought a 2004 sider with 8,1000 miles in mint condition. I paid $115k, which I feel is in line with the analysis. While I have owned much more powerful cars, this is a frequent driver's car, light, nimble, fun, go kart steering and amazing sound. The 360 is for someone who wants to enjoy Ferrari at this stage in its development. I daily drive a Cal T, more modern, powerful with all the bells and whistles, wonderful car. Thie 360 is for those who love driving a timepiece that is fun, light, open and engaging and will forever put a smile on your face and a beat in your heart, Yes, I love this car.PS, I will most likely never sell it, a family heirloom for my grandchildren.
Owner of a '99 manual Modena Coupe here...one thing I would like to know is that if the "manual" cars were visually verified prior to the analysis...one big thing I noticed when shopping is that many of the F1 cars ("automatics") were actually listed as "manual", since technically, they still are, you would have to look at pictures to verify...but of course that made a huge difference in price since the true manuals are rarer, and overall, more desirable than the F1. Overall, great video, will check out some of your others.
I encountered the same issue. Though, I didn't visually inspect each and every car. I only inspected the cars which had a strange year-price-mileage-transmission combination and relabelled them if necessary.
I bought my 2001 manual 360 Spider last year. It has approximately 25,000 miles. From what I have seen it seems the manual with similar characteristics to mine has slightly increased in price over the last 18 months by about 10%.
It would be awesome to get an UPDATE video so we can compare what happened to the forecast versus this insane market we are now in. I'm really enjoying your videos brother. I bought a 360 manual spider 9 months ago. Would love to see a 360 CS and 430 Scud video.
Did you see this one already? It's an update from two months ago: ua-cam.com/video/u8KIIWQfvyo/v-deo.html In my latest video about the FF and 599 you can also see how it relates to other Ferraris.
Great break down, but can you include the very rare - coupe sunroof? I figured you’d want to for the sake of your data but also for those of us who know about this option!
Hi James, that's an interesting question. I'm not aware of the importance of the sunroof option. It should be possible to differentiate between the cars with- and without that option. But as you can see in the video, i didn't do that.
Too bad the ACTUAL sold price is hard to get. That would really tell the story. I’m in the market for one of these and some people really seem to be asking more than they should. I’m in Canada and I’ve been watching several models for sale across the country. They do not seem to be selling as some have been listed for over two years.
i’m seeing asking prices of $90k + with auto cars that have 30,000 or more miles. Some of these people are trying to recoup what they spent on maintenance and i’m patient enough to wait for $15k-$20k to be knocked off the asking price
Intelligent young man. Very interesting. I think you should also factor in negative economic scenarios like recessions, depression’s and stock market crashes and how they would impact prices. Many economists think that we are overdue for another crash. I was thinking of buying red 360 spider manual transmission in a year or two. Hopefully the prices won’t go up. What do you think?
I googled few key words and the best thing I found so far is: www.ferrarifl.com/vintage-service/ But it does not give likelihood of repair (e.g., few models have a tendency to break more often) but it is not bad as it lists the most affordable Ferraris. It would be great to have a ranking of those in order to see which one is the best investment (while keeping appreciation and running cost in mind).
@@eqrc8412 I sometimes filter out the best 'deals' by combing price, mileage, model year, and one other factor (eg transmission). This is however more focused towards value for money than investment potential.
Those numbers are very good for service, but dealers have a tendency to "find" other things while their are in there and it's stupid easy for your $3200 major service turn into a $10k bill rather quickly...and most owners will take them at their word. I'm a DIY, and can attest to the discrepancy between the inflated costs of buying Ferrari parts through the dealer and buying OEM, couple that with 150-200/hr for service, you can see those reasonable prices shoot up rather quickly.

BMW M3 series... That would be a real challenge between body types over the years though (e.g. E30 vs E46). How could possibly compare a 199x E30 M3 to a 200x E46?!
Ferrari 456 and Ferrari 612. Ferraris usually hit the bottom of the depreciation curve after 15-20 years and these 2 models are around that age and on top of that they are 4 seaters (e.g.: you can enjoy them with more people).

Fourwheel Trader - Car depreciation analysis - Perhaps a Vantage S or GT. Though it’s a striking car, I’m not sure that beauty is worth the trade off for its lack of performance. It’s substantially more expensive to get into the V12 model.
So what your saying is buy a ferrari and just look at it in your garage so it wont depreciate.the more miles the less it will be worth.you dint account for maintenance records and up keeping.those numbers are just retail.get a low mile one and add 10k in maint cost then its not worth it bcs the more miles you put on it the more it depreciates.not worth it to just sit and look at a car.i had one sold it.not reliable.depritiates every mile and once you past 50k miles it will be worth as much as a Honda civic.
Worst analysis by far... your graph of manuals and Autos has one point significantly high for Manuals, the data is clearly a shotgun graph with low confidence of any line drawn with some values on the same year being TWICE as much as the other.... You simply cannot draw conclusions like this...
