I rode the CA coast in 2020 in the opposite direction as I live in Riverside County. I enjoyed your video seeing all the places that I remember. Happy Trails.
@@josephhaddakin7095 Oh awesome, then you personally know the beauty (and possibly the struggles) of a trip like that. Haha .. Certainly was a fund one, and I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks for checking out the video!
Really enjoyed your video! A buddy and I road from Sausalito to Santa Monica in the Summer of '74. No helmet, bike shorts or snap-in pedals. Things have definitely improved.
When I was 14 my step Dad and I rode the bicentennial trail from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia. 4,400 miles. I'm 40 now, and I've been a lot of crazy places and done a lot of crazy things, but that is still the great adventure of my life. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Now that is one mighty adventure!! 🙌🏾 I’m sure something that you and you Father cherish for a lifetime. 🙏🏽 I sure did cherish this adventure. One for the books !!
This was fun to watch. I do long rides up here in Alaska and now that I’m retired gonna pack the bike up and fly to lower 48 and do some cruising. I slept in a hammock and when I wake up the legs feel fantastic. Sleeping on the ground don’t cut it.
Jack, I had my first experience in Alaska last year and man, it sure is beautiful up there. It’s an entire different energy and tranquility for sure. When you say you do long rides up there, I hope they aren’t in the winter months because that would be brutal 😆. Thank you for checking out the Video boss 🙏🏽
Your video is so underated. I send this to all my friends for inspiration. Hope you do more videos like this. And hope to be able to do a ride like this one day.
Andy I appreciate you bro! 🙏🏽 It hands down was one of those experiences that really made a lasting impression on life for me. So many life lessons along the way. I too wish I will be able to make more videos and experiences like this, trust me it’s on the agenda 😎. Ride safe out there Brotha 🙏🏽 Thanks for showing the love !!
Great first vid K! I see you did use the tent I gave you, one up on the Daniel D tent which is funny as hell. Heck of a great challenge with a good cause you both pulled off. PROUD!
Brian Smith haha, yes, I had the tent you gave me the entire time. It worked like a charm. It will be with me in many of my future adventures as well so that thing will not be retiring any time soon. Haha. Thank you for that. 😁.
Cool adventure, guys! Thanks for capturing some highlights of it for all of us to enjoy, too! That was some kind of accomplishment - congratulations! And, thank you for raising funds for veterans! Major props to you two guys for this!
Really liked this video. Great narration and I liked that you showed but the good as well as the not so good times of the bike tour. For me as a long time bike tourist it's always interesting to watch people going on their first tour.

Joe Budd I’m glad brotha !. I’m still over here recovering from a pretty bad case of patellar tendinitis from that ride 😂, which is why I haven’t been able to do another one yet, but give it some time and I’ll be back out there 😁
JakeSnakeEl LMAO 😂, I figured that someone would find joy in that moment. Lol .. Shoot, I think it’s the funniest thing looking back on it! The pain, the suck, the accomplishment... Thanks for watching brother 🤙🏽
Epic! I'm planning to do this same route with a few friends in the spring and came across this video. Massively helpful and inspiring. Thanks for sharing your story! Did you document your 12-week training program somewhere? I'm a new rider so would love to take a look.
Hey Jeremy! Awesome man, I’m glad you liked the video 😀. I had an amazing time. Like yourself, I am also a new rider (Well, before that ride I was new, but after a 600+ mile bike tour I guess I can consider myself to be a bit more than a new rider 😂). But my training schedule I didn’t really “document” to great per say. I shared some rides on Strava and daily posts on my IG and stuff. As far as WHAT I did, I just sat down and was like, hmm.. from what I know about cycling/training for anything really you just wanna build up your endurance and strength gradually. So I wrote down on a calendar what I felt would be good gradual milestones. For example, my week 1-3 training I was aiming at doing 20-30 miles per day, 3/4 days a week. Then my next 4-6 week training I would do maybe 30-40 miles per day and try and do that also 3/4 days a week but put some of those days back to back so I get used to grinding day after day. Weeks 7-9 similar concept, extending the miles to 40-55 a day, but doing maybe 3 days in a row, taking a day or two off and doing it again. Then weeks 10-12 I went hard for weeks 10/11 pushing like 50+ mile rides back to back to back to back. Last week really resting and prepping for the LONG ride. All that helped me get in shape for sure. One thing I didn’t train with though that I should had, was WEIGHT. it’s very different riding 50 miles in a day with just you and your bike, compared to riding 50 miles in a day with you, your bike, and 25lbs of gear with you. THAT I learned quite early into the trip. Haha. So, there was some real soreness early into the ride but eventually your so sore that you don’t feel soreness anymore haha. So yah, train with weight on your bike 💯. And when it comes to the trip bro, don’t “rush” and do too many miles in a day. We averaged like 64-69 miles per day, and it was a bit tough sometimes sure, but really it kind of made us feel rushed at moments. Like stopping and enjoying the town we were in wasn’t as possible because we had to get to camp by a certain time because we wanted sunlight still and not for it to be cold as heck when pulling up. So yah, just don’t force too many miles in a day 😃. Best of luck to you man and remember to enjoy the process and the ride, not just the completion 💪🏽.
@@whoiskyran1446 This is awesome man, super helpful. Thank you so much! If you have any desire to do it again haha we'll be going sometime in mid-June. Would love to have you join 🤙
Margaret, I am not going to lie Big Sur was pretty tough. It’s one of those things that when your there and doing it does it suck, yes, but when your done and look back on it your like “wow, that looks brutal. Who would want to do that.
