Unfortunatelly, we saw good people at these hearings, last week for example suffering, because of the criminal charges, after having breached the Capitol on 1/6.
A young man, a father , sharing his pain, it was heartbreaking, I must say!
I am sure you, yourself and your loved ones were not indifferent to his suffering!
He realized in the end, that he was betrayed, the reality, in front of him was not what he was told, it would be, by far!
Trusting the Ethos of a political party, trusting a candidate is not stupidity. This is democracy, but still there is a moment when things, of that severity, like 1/6, can not happen.
The US is showing the world, for hundreds of years, the fact that it is possible to uphold democracy, even if it is not easy. But it can be done.

In the second clip, it cuts off when he gets next to whomever that is. It looks like selective editing to me. Not to say I know his motive or that he wasn't scared, but if I don't know any better, it looks like he was somewhat running through to catch up to a colleague. The influx of people could be similar to subway traffic at that time and could be normal? I would like to see the whole clip except for except for the few snippets they provided.
Cipollone was White House legal counsel to the Office of the President. NOT the President's personal attorney. Big difference. His only job was to advise the president on legality, the Constitution and precedent. That's why he did not take the 5th, he had no personal stake in the President's political aspirations, just advising him of the laws. He did not participate in the BS.

I was watching ABC evening news several weeks ago.
There was a clip of t.Rump giving a speech, where he was, was not identified, nor was the main topic of his speech.
In the clip, referencing jan 6, he said, “Mike Pence had the chance to do something really great, to be seen as a hero. And he completely blew it.”
His audience enthusiastically cheered.
Congresswoman Cheney is an extraordinary person. A patriot, a smart woman, a brave American! Her own example is so very telling for the true American moral values!
She will never be the politician her father was. It’s a shame.

I get that the DOJ doesn't need to wait for referrals from this committee...
But Merrick Garland has decided he wants to keep following Bill Barr's policies intended to shield Trump for fear of an "appearance" of impropriety.
This committee should send him the recommendations along with a strongly worded letter about how following such policies APPEAR to or ACTUALLY subvert the rule of law or put someone above the law simply for being a former or current politician.

There is no privilege for protection for either an attorney or a client to hide behind as part of the active commission of a crime or fraud. They can invoke 5th Amendment if they want. Maybe he should have done that.

I think he showed terrible leadership. But statutorily (as a criminal trial attorney), all this is hearsay, speculation, and extraordinarily theatric. For example, in court, you can't ask for speculation. It'll be overruled every time. You can't splice footage without a challenge to create a production. That young lady saying "I heard something to the effect of" would basically not get a word out. Is this horrible? Yes. Was a legally defined crime committed by the president, who was not there? The argument of criminal activity hinges on the conspiracy and intent. The word "peacefully" that he uttered to the crowd before going to the Capitol would destroy a prosecutor's case and create reasonable doubt. remember folks, your disdain for trump is unfortunately not enough. criminal law trials are not nearly as easy when the other side has a say, and when the burden of proof goes beyond partisan hate.
This is the court of public perception. Reasonable doubt doesn't help to protect against judgement here.

The AG keeps saying they're investigating, which is code for "what the commission has shown is all innuendo and speculation, and I need hard evidence of conspiracy." If they press given how flimsy this case is, it's a disaster. It will drag out, they will lose, and only make Trump more powerful. Most people with narcissistic personalities only get stronger when attempts to take them down fail. And this will 100% fail outside of the court of public opinion.
And yet this isn't a court case, so, court rules don't mean much here. This has much more akin to detectives questioning people to see if they can build a case. First they want to see if they can lay out enough to have a reasonable idea of what happened and then use the evidence and statements to apply more pressure to see if they can build a case that will hold up to the rules of a courtroom, while meanwhile, showing citizens the building of the case, so that we can at least see a better view of what happened regardless of whether or not a court case ever proceeds.
