I really appreciate the recent big patch that lets you choose a pre-defined build during character creation. It really helps you dodge the analysis paralysis of figuring out which of the dozens of mutations synergize well with each other. I'm having fun with the marsh taur build right now.
first character ever was a minotaur with two axes, horns, double muscled and fur. He did good, despite his pea brain
your editing has improved ALOT comparative to your videos from just a year ago, your channel deserves alot more followers, though Qud is a game a large amount of people would pass on. After you finally move on from Qud you should definitely find something that you want to invest time into and learn about. because your channel would definitely grow with this indepth tutorial content and neat editing style. alas Qud is a wonderful game yet for obvious reasons its alot harder for large swathes of people to look at this awesome content, thank you for making it with great quality for such a small viewership. Its very much appreciated!

Qud came on my radar a few months back and I watched these videos before I had time to pick the game up, and they absolutely were what made actually learning the game an approachable task. Thanks for the new episode, and it was great talking to you during your premiere yesterday! I've enjoying the True Kin run I started with your earlier tutorial, but now I'm really tempted to try out a mutant!
And here I went all in with mutants.
One game you might find interesting is Door in the Woods. It is a traditional roguelike and in the devs own words; This game is a venture into an alternative timeline in which graphics and sensible game design were never invented.
I checked it out and it does look very interesting! i'll likely cover it in the future

Not sure how obvious this is to everyone, but realizing this was big for me, so here's some tips for a few specific mutations:
When choosing any of the attribute boosting mutations (double muscled, triple jointed, two hearted), the stat boost at character creation is really sort of irrelevant, since it essentially just gives you an extra two attribute points that you could then allocate to any stat. So instead, look at it this way:
1) Do you want a way to increase this attribute besides leveling up and spending attribute points? (Leveling each of these mutations allows you to increase their associated attribute far faster than the usual way, while still leaving attribute points left over to spend on a secondary or tertiary attribute. This can also make them useful as the sole physical complement to a mental build; Rapid Advancement only affects physical mutations, and spending each RA on one of these mutations guarantees you a sizeable stat boost to one of your physical attributes at levels 5, 15, 25, etc.)
2) Does the added effect complement your build's playstyle? (For instance: a chance to daze opponents would be good for any physical fighter, especially one speccing cudgels. A chance to skip agility cooldowns can be incredibly powerful for the skills it applies to in the B&R, Pistol, Long/Short Blade, and Dual Wield skill categories. A guaranteed longer sprint can give much-needed vitality in the early game while also providing long range fighters a better last resort option.)
this is very excellent advice and helpful recontextualization of these abilities! I kind of want to do an entire series where I super-examine each mutation and ability and list off decent synergies... I don't know if I would live long enough unfortunately...
This video couldn't be timed better for me. I got greedy farming phase cannon turrets in the deep caves last night and made the incredibly stupid mistake of getting into melee with a decasludge. TBH I've kind of been building up a death wish lately, daydreaming of what character to build next.

i'm on the fence about getting qud - i used to love dwarf fortress, but i will admit the style of interfacing with the game has gotten a bit weary on me. however, your tutorial series + some gameplay of it seems refreshing and i'll be picking it up today. thank you, looking forward to more.
I decided to get it, actually. Your videos were really great to prepare me to play the game and it doesn't feel as overwhelming and difficult as I was expecting. I'm having a lot of fun with my temporal fugue short blade so far. The controls will take some getting used to, but that's just about any game.
