    The Dickey Amendment has prevented the CDC from researching gun violence since 1996. While the initial intent of the amendment was to prevent the CDC from advocate for gun control, it largely shut down (96% of) the funding and research into gun violence. Efforts have gone on for decades for funding but it wasn't until 2020 that money was put into the federal budget for CDC and NIH research into gun violence.
    It is difficult to find a solution when you are not able to study the problem.

    This was an anthem for the Class of 2002! I would know, I lived it.

      I was the class of 2007. This time of the 00s I was entering my mental health crisis, so THIS song was extra powerful for me. I was on all of the feelings of the story including thoughts of mass violence. It was a helluva time to come out as gay or bisexual so hate got pretty deep quick and was caught up in the times. Although it was very dark, I came out on the other side within a few years and thrived. But this early 2000s song style of realism of how life was, was never lost on me. I am a social worker now by trade and choice.

    CRT is not a problem when it comes to guns, however, it is a problem in making kids only look at people through skin colors😣 Martin Luther King Jr would be so ashamed of all these teachers and these adults in position of power trying to teach CRT to children😣

    28:07 Crazy! Exactly 20 year old song and we're nowhere near solving the problem. Like you were saying about being homeschooled. Back in my day they were the weird ones now it's like I'm not sure I'd want to send my kid. Then school choice just maddening

    Vin, Sori! I've had a great loss today. My father passed away from lung, throat, and brain cancer! If you could do a reaction to " World So Cold " by Mudvayne, my father would be happy on his journey to heaven, if you could do that, my father's name is Tony Westmoreland. God bless you both, and I love you all!

    The song was written when the band was getting delayed in traffic. They then found out the reason for the traffic jam was a school shooting. It was the event that inspired the song.

    When you reviewed satellite by POD I suggested you do an album review. Someone said you were going to do that during the 20th anniversary or something. Glad you finally got to another POD song from that album, it's really good. In fact it was my very first metal album. Hope you do the rest of it some day. One of my favorite songs off it is Anything Right which I can actually play on guitar.

    To me the biggest problem is we are teaching victimhood instead of critical thinking . No one wants to listen to multiple views and research the truth THEN come to a reasonable conclusion .

    • @LexyThomas134

      Even when they research the truth now they still find a way to get around it.

    • @jeremyanderson11
      @jeremyanderson11 Рік тому +4

      Most people's "research" is a google search, then go with the first thing they see or what backs their view point. Of course it's the individuals responsibility first and foremost but of course we know that's not full proof, I would also say our education failed to an extent as well. Most people didn't make it past "Works Cited" in Middle/High School. This is a scary thought because "information" (including and/the worst case scenario, false information) is so viable and accessible to everyone. I wish everyone could treat others with respect. I'll leave it with that. Have a great day. Peace.

    As a British person, it's interesting to see Americans reflect on their country's issues. We don't have guns here but we did have a problem with knives and stabbings, especially in big cities. We have the NHS which has its issues but generally works. The problem I think in the US is the fact guns are so easily accessible but I agree, a blanket ban won't work. They're out there now, there's no way to reel it back

  • @Z_TPI
    @Z_TPI Рік тому +1

    I'm Canadian, and I totally agree with you on the police and gun issues.
    Police need mandatory consistent high stress situational and tactical training. Like you said, police are human beings, and when thrown into a dangerous situation, the instinctual response is self preservation. Once the threat reaches a certain threshold, the subconscious brain takes over and executes the most efficient action to neutralize the threat, regardless of the rationality. This is called the "amygdala hijack".
    For example, say a cop is in a high stress situation with an uncooperative perp who is highly aggressive and possibly armed. The cap has his weapon drawn, all of a sudden the perp makes a quick gesture that is similar to the motion of pulling out a gun. The cop sees something in his hand, the amygdala hijack (self preservation instinct) takes over, which blocks the logical part of the brain from processing all incoming sensory information. Even though the cop can clearly see a cell phone, the brain is in "autopilot" and literally takes control of the body to self preserve. We can’t choose how we want to react because the old protective mechanism in the nervous system does it for us as an irrational reflex behavior, causing the cop to shoot. The subconscious mind is roughly 50,000 to 2 million times faster than the conscious mind. Once the threat is neutralized, conscious awareness returns almost instantly, and only then does the cop realize that he wrongly shot an unarmed person.
    To overcome this, consistent training will allow a person to stay in full control, and make rational decisions. No one should be thrown into high stress/life threatening situations, while armed, without this training. Regardless of the badge, it's just another human being with a gun, trying to stay alive, and human instinct will always trump rationale for survival, unless properly trained. This is why tac/spec teams can calmly breach a room and instantly take out the people who are armed while not shooting the unarmed who are screaming/flailing. They've practiced this and many other situations like this over and over so shit doesn't go wrong.
    On gun laws, a few years back, the Canadian government banned over 1,500 models of firearms solely based on how "scary" they looked. In October of this year, all handgun sales, purchases and transfers became prohibited. Those who already have handguns can still keep theirs, that's it. Toronto police recently reported that 85% of the crime guns they confiscated in 2021 were smuggled in from the US. The other 15% were either smuggled in from a different foreign country, stolen, or not traceable.
    Result: Gun crime rate is still increasing.
    Even more laughable, they just lowered and/or removed mandatory minimum sentences for many different firearms crimes.
    They are punishing the legal owners, rewarding the criminals, then ignoring the rise of the gun crime rate while patting themselves on the back claiming their gun control policies are keeping citizens safe. 🤦‍♂️🦧
    In the end, there is no perfect system. Gun control on legal owning, law abiding citizens won't fix anything. Gun acquisition needs to be tougher so that deranged people/criminals can't legally get their hands on firearms/ammo, harsher mandatory minimum punishments for gun crimes, and more funding for cracking down on smuggling/black market. Criminals need to fear the consequences. More people would possibly think twice to carry an illegal gun knowing that getting caught is instantly 5 years mandatory instead of maybe 6 months or a deferral to probation only and go right back to that life. That may sound cruel and unjust to some people, but no one should be forced to increasingly sacrifice their recreation due to the violent actions of another whose punishments are getting decreased. 🤷‍♂️

    There is nothing to "solve".
    Look, we evolved (or were designed) to operate in tribal groups of about 200 individuals. Society has changed from that at an ever-increasing pace. A certain percentage is *always* going to be unadaptive.
    We might be able to ameliorate the problem by reopening insane asylum, but those come with their own pitfalls and tragedies. Is the current paradigm better or worse than the alternative?
    Who decides what is insanity and dangerous? Are Trans people insane? Are people who deny Trans people insane?
    Either way, someone is being institutionalized that you will agree and disagree with. Deaths in those institutes will happen. Will there be more or less overall deaths?
    Because we don't have a singular, national identity and a universal moral identity, we might simply be stuck with a natural degree of homicidal outliers. And, let's be clear: these are statistical anomalies. Most people are safe, most kids are safe in school. You're much more likely to have a kid falsely accused of planning an atrocity than of one actually being carried out. Cry wolf too many times and find out.
    Overall, these things are just overhyped. They are localized tragedies, and in a local setting they are the most important thing, but nationally they are insignificant. That's harsh, I get it, but we need to be real.
