  • Local flight with takeoff/landing ESMH Rwy 32. Overhead break 150 kt. Geographical area Höganäs, Kullen, Skälderviken. A few turns up to 2.0 G, stall in clean configuration (49 kt) , a pair of lazy eights. We didn´t have much time, thinking about the trip home before civil twilight. The switch for the flaps is to the left of the landing gear handle (with the blue/green light bulb). Takeoff flaps 1 (20 degrees stall 44 kt) and landing with flaps 2 (35 degrees stall 39 kt). Flaps 3 with 45 degrees is more of an emergency airbreak (stall 38 kt) with quite a noticable push down of the nose, not too unlike the FK14 Polaris according to the pilot. However used on the ground to accomodate the foot step.
    The grip on the stick is not as thick as on previous models, which I think is an improvement. Other than that a very stable high speed cruiser with probably the best cockpit environment of all microlights and many LSA. What is Vne for the Dynamic WT9 (150-151 kt) becomes almost the normal cruise for this machine. POH mentions Vne to 157 kt. A precautionary cushion against sudden turbulence etc since we know the plane is capable of more. In 2016 I had a ride in a sort of prototype (SEVUE) without the wingtanks (more sensitive roll response) and we had around 170 kt IAS in a slight descent at 1500 ft totally stable.
    Maybe more on the handling and speed qualities at higher alt later.

      It´s his personal "thing", a bit airforce nerdy, and mostly that he actually prefers the feel that way. You can check out Elias channel if you like, he´s in the comments here and also on my main page. There´s a good playlist at his channel.

    Good review, thx! But 157kt Vne seems pretty slow, as the VL3 912 has around 170kt. Do you remember, where the yellow arc starts? Any information about consumption/ fuel flow?

    • @eliassjolander
      @eliassjolander 2 роки тому +2

      I think it might be limited by the BRS as the airframe has been flutter tested to much higher speeds. The website states "VNE 170 kts (BRS limited)" for the 600 RG and I'm not sure why this particular plane (and maybe all the latest individuals?) has the lower VNE. Green arc is up to 146 KIAS. Fuel flow in relation to speed is incredible with the 912iS - on lower altitudes like this you'll end up around 19 l/h at 140 KIAS but on a cross country flight at FL95 and FL120 we saw 12-14 l/h at 152 KTAS.

    Very light wing loading. Should bounce around like a leaf in turbulence.

    • @flythething193
      @flythething193  2 роки тому +1

      Interesting point, but May 22 2018 at Aero Expo was a highly turbulent day, and the plane didn´t bounce around as you can see for yourself here:
      ua-cam.com/video/mAMR1tZwI84/v-deo.html
      Of course it had approx 120 L of fuel in the wing tanks at that occasion, so someone else would have to confirm how it behaves with say 30-40 L under similar conditions. As a side note, I prefer to try out new planes under no turbulence, so although the wingover/sliceback and landing by Mikael Carlson was a highlight and a great inspiration in the 2018 video, the other three demo flights have been nicer overall.
      Do you have any numbers on the wing loading? Would be fun to compare with it´s main competitors WT9 and JMB VL3.

      It´s the nature of the game in small aircrafts, sitting so close to the engine (mostly not on idle), but also the placement of the camera/mic on a headstrap. With a different camera placement maybe you would hear. I often hear my own position reports when flying in the pattern close to idle if you check my other videos which mostly are landing related in some way. Around the time of 1969 when our CFI trained for his certificate at Bulltofta/Sweden they didn´t have intercom so they had to yell.

    • @flythething193
      @flythething193  2 роки тому

      Yes, since around a year back there´s at least one individual SE-MMD that´s flying with the 915iS and single lever constant speed. From what I´ve heard they´ve broken 400 km/h.

    Hiii, whats the range of the blackwing???

    • @flythething193
      @flythething193  2 роки тому

      If we assume 130 L fuel and flying economically with an average of 16 L/h that would be around 1800 km (975 nm) with 120 kt, but I think it´s faster and consumes even less fuel up around FL100 so could be 2200 km (1200 nm) at 145 kt.
      Now checking with POH gives FL120, TAS 150 kt, 7,8 h = 1170 nm or 2167 km in zero wind. This is for the 912iS (100 hp) and not the 915iS (141 hp with 135 hp continuous and turbo) which should perform better and be less prone to lose power at high alt. Maybe get back on that one later.

    Good looking plane. Haven’t seen any in US Seats look great. I fly a sportcruiser. It’s a nice plane But seats are way too low. Hard to see over cowl

    • @flythething193
      @flythething193  2 роки тому

      We have a Dynamic WT9 at our flying club. Many pilots use one or two cushions on the seat and sometimes one for the back as well. One pilot commented it was like sitting in a bathtub. For me it works either way, I just adapt, but it could take some hours. Think of it as training for a future taildragger and maybe use a curved approach or forward slipping. Especially if training with no flaps. The Blackwing on the other hand is less extreme in this deparment, and pilots coming from more "normal" planes tend to feel at home at once concerning the sight picture. I can´t answer on the US market, but maybe someone from Blackwing will chime in. I heard less restrictive rules for LSA may be on the way.

      No, I think you'll find I'm right.
      My carefully crafted advice, culled from decades of practice sitting on my arse - use a cushion to raise one's view.

    • @flythething193
      @flythething193  2 роки тому

      @@Tinker1950 It´s only right if you need them. The lowness of the seats never struck me in the Blackwing, which also has a more normal upright seat position. The WT9 on the other hand is a bit lower and more tilted back, great for long flights, but some people even taller than I am, find themselves like in a bathtub without cushions. You´ll either adapt fast, or fix some remedy for the problem. A taildragger would have even more obstructed views. Maybe pilots with that background would be less sensitive on the subject.

    • @flythething193

      I noticed a bit of that too, but since the pilots use Bose A20 with ANR I´ve never heard anyone complain. I´ve never suffered from noise in any of my rides. Most small planes I´ve flown in are quite noisy, especially with Rotax engines. Some may have better engine installations and better taken care of in general, such things affects too.
