- In this video I finally placed the crankcases together after replacing all the con-rod and crankshaft bearings. I also put new clutch friction plates and springs.
Every gasket, seal and o-ring has been replaced with new Yamaha parts (geeez that was costly!!!)
Watch the video and tell me what you think. Remind me of anything I might have missed and give me any ideas for the next steps.

Good job
I always do up the main brg bolts in three stages and check the crank turns I also check with plastigage just as a double check it’s coming together good actually didn’t seem very worn how many miles on it
Thanks for the advice Karl! I'll do on the next project. The engine has around 75,000kms. However it seemed to be quite abused with poor quality oil by the previous owners :(
I hate to think of the cost for this, I live in NZ and prices are even worse here. How hard was it to source the bearing and rings, thats what i'm worried about.
Look, the cost is undoubtedly high! It would be cheaper for me to buy another engine from Germany, with relatively less kms than this one. BUT... I wouldn't know how good or bad it would be PLUS I wouldn't have all that fun restoring it!
Sourcing these particular parts you mentioned it wasn't hard at all. I ordered them from megazip.com (I just make sure all parts are requested from the Japanese warehouse, as it is cheaper for us in AU and NZ). If they won't have something, then I turn my head towards Netherlands at cmsnl.com
That's when I need brand new parts.
When I need used (and not only) parts, then eBay can be a great source.
If you need further help shoot me an email at csofos@hotmail.com
I'll be glad to help
Hello Chris! As i was cleaning my lower crankcase i took a peek under the main bearings. I saw threads in the oil canal which feeds oil to the main bearings. Does it mean there is supposed to be some sort of oil jet? I couldn`t find anything from the 87 fzr 1000 manual or parts list. Google searches didn`t really reveal anything. Please advice.
@alexhellx8897 no there's no jets there. Just the groove that help with the lubrication.
@@ChrisSofos ah, thank you!
Hi Chris, I was just wondering did you replace the primary chain?
No I didn't. That's because I couldn't find one. They send me an email from megazip.net that they had one but that's after I had the engine completely assembled 😢
However I don't think the chain had an issue
Why didn`t exchange the transmission shaft ball bearings?
I did, I just didn't filmed it. Which was stupid of me 😊
@@ChrisSofos Thank you.
Como hago para conseguir repuestos acá en México no llegan
Sorry to hear that buddy :(
