  • In this video, we are feeling the crunch. We need to complete 5 bents in 4 days. We are continuing to attach brackets, build trusses and then completing the bent. It just takes time. We complete numbers 4, 5 and 6 in this video - so two more to go. We have figured out a much better system than with the first bent, including moving it. Sometimes you have to go through a little trial and error to figure out what works best for you and your projects and that's just what we did. We have a great team and we are working hard to meet our deadline! Super excited to see these go up soon!
We are milling our barndominium - barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill. If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the first slab last summer, we milled most of the timbers needed over this past winter/spring, added plumbing, put in a second slab for our garage and now we have started building our barndominium - barnhouse - lodge - our home.
Here's the video where we share our change in plans and decide to turn our barn into our home:
    • EVERYTHING Had To CHAN...
Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from ‪‪‪‪‪‪@BarnGeek‬. We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home:
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

Howdy Gregg- you guys were moving on. You’re gaining experience and knowledge and confidence. Really looking forward to seeing all standing up. You might pull the most of the weight off the lower cross beam and off the collar tie to keep it vertical. Wishing y’all the best. God bless

Hi, Paul- The lift happened on Saturday. Everything went really good. We screwed a cleat on the post just under where it connected to the rafter. Then had a huge spreader bar that picked from 17’. It seemed to work really well without putting undo stress on the bent. Wish you could have been there! 😊

Building these bents is definitely a lot of work and very time consuming. We are getting it done, but we sure do feel the time crunch to meet our deadline- maybe more than I'm realizing. But, it's because we have a crane scheduled and we have to stay on track. And, we want everything to go smoothly on "raising the bents" day - after these bents are built, we have two more- wish us luck! Hope you enjoy this video, we sure do appreciate your support. 😊

For the TWISTS, put an F-Clamp on it with a 4’ pipe on the handle. Have someone lean on it a bit to straighten as you drill the holes.

you know there is a timber frame drill out there that drills straight holes in the timber

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  2 місяці тому +2

Hi, Jennifer- I saw some jigs that drills go in but either thought the nice ones are too expensive or the cheap ones just seemed cheap.
Or is there something better than that?
Seems like I bought every other tool that is out there. 😆

Crane operators won't raise the boom if it's too windy. I think you'll make the deadline. Otherwise, pray for wind.

Hi, John- We are basically rookies and figuring things out as we go. I’m sure a professional crew would be a lot more organized and efficient. We are just learning as we go. 😁
