Cheers! Made my night! I've been thinking about getting back at it and putting up a couple vids - your comment is super kind and motivational my friend!
I watched this about 10 years ago just after I picked up my first guitar, I had heard of the dead but never had listened to them. Still playing guitar, even a couple dead tunes, now I listen to them everyday. Love what you do!
i have really enjoyed your music, I am a 12 year old guitar player- my Dad has dragged me to every concert worth seeing since I was 7. I learned Althea by watching you play. Your AWESOME Jackson Danger
I can hear and feel a thousand nights around the camp fire, house parties, jams at the local bar, two guys jamming together, that lead up to this tune. I can also hear a very strong Marshall Tucker Band influence in this one. Keep doin' what you love doin Bro.
Man! Hell of a great voice my friend! I play this song over and over but the voice is haunting! I hear it all day. Great rendition my friend and happy trails! Nice job!
Your versions of "Valerie" and "Althea" were my introduction to playing guitar....I never stuck with it, and I haven't played for years, but now, stranded 8000 miles from home, I'm finally practicing again, watching this video with my guitar in my hands...This is one of the best versions ever recorded, in my opinion. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks Lowell! 8000 Miles from home!!! Yikes! Hope all is ok! Glad you've got your guitar with you and are playing (I am isolated at home and have been playing a lot as well!). Very much appreciate the comment - though I don't think I have ever played Valarie (but I should probably play it now that you mention it!) Stay well and keep on pickin' and grinin' - please let me know if you ever post your playing, I'd love to check it out (~);}
jkstraw All is good here, brother, thank you. Not sure where I got the Valerie memory...😋. Old age perhaps...The version Jerry does with Kahn at the Oregon State Prison is really tasty!!Anyway, Althea is next for me. Need to work on my Bm, for sure. Cheers, man.
I'm learning this song right now, and believe it or not, I like your version the best of the many I've come across out there. Yes, that does include the GFD version. ;-)
jkstraw: You seem to be a very humble man, but I just want to thank you for posting all of your Dead songs, and keeping the fire burning! Nobody can replace Jerry, but as long as there are people like you who keep the spirit alive, hopefully some of the younger people will get it. For me, I appreciate it SO much just to hear ANY of your renditions. I wasn't even a crazy Dead-head, but I loved them, and still miss the shows and the scene SO much. Again, thanks bro, and Keep On Truckin'!
Thanks John - still playing - life gets in the way of getting videos done a lot of time though! I have a few new ones up over the past year on this channel though. Peace bro! (~);}
Thanks Andy - just got my new jam space put together (been a few years!) I'm looking forwarding to dusting off the strings and digging in to some new tunes! Hope all is well with you my friend!
Thank you for this, it was very helpful to see your fingers/chords on the guitar so we could fix what we were doing wrong! Wish your hat didn't shadow your face so much! Nice job on a classic.
thanks, Jon. I'll keep my eyes open for your other stuff. I sing R&B, also jazz standards. can't play guitar for shit so my hat's off to you man. I'm Andy.
hey man, sounds great! i'm currently working on my own little version on acoustic of this tune. really trying to get my bluegrass style strumming down and eventually move on into some flatpicking runs with this tune. cheers!
That's awesome - please PM me when you have it done (assuming you're going to record it) - I'l love to hear it. Still haven't gotten of my ass and learned the finer points of playing (picking patterns, styles, etc.) I'd dig hearing how it sounds! Keep on pickin' and grinnin' (~);}
Real nice man, don't know where your at, but I wish you were in Jersey. Looking to hook up with some players to gig and record some originals and covers. Great voice! Allman bro, Marshall Tucker be proud. TS
Not sure where you're from but, would like to invite you to a great local festival here in Ky in three weeks. It is called Terrapin Hill Harvest Festival. You can find it by googling. Peace...
I'm in central Jersey, Montgomery Twp. Off rt 206, about 10 miles north of rt 1. I rememeber the video now, I was singing harmonies to it. Got a great place up here building a jam/studio, but my old bandmates are up north and no help. I'd like to get in touch and talk about jamming. Don't want to put my email/ # on here. I sent you another email from the one I got, not sure if you got that.
You should think about making some acoustic lessons with all the fun dead songs you know. No one out there is really doing it i would deffentily watch and learn. them.
I second this idea. I've watched your videos and truly enjoy them. As a later in life beginner guitar player I would like to learn the songs that I grew up with.
2024 and im still playing along to this all of the time
Cheers! Made my night! I've been thinking about getting back at it and putting up a couple vids - your comment is super kind and motivational my friend!

got a lot of heart, which the song needs. wouldn't mind knowing your name, amigo. don't have any fear, be proud of your work.
