RIP David Surette. So grateful for all the music. More about David: acousticguitar.com/remembering-david-surette-humble-master-of-folk-guitar-and-mandolin
Truly sorry to hear about Dave. This just popped up on my YT algorithm and I found out there'll be no more Dave. Bummer. And he was younger than me. Hard to fathom.
I’m 20 years old listening to this everyday. this video was the first time I heard either I know you rider or China cat. Very grateful for these two musicians, I always am in a better headspace after listening. RIP David… and thank you for leaving us with a masterpiece of a cover.
2 old dudes in Pittsburgh waiting for the show Blew our minds. Swapping rhythm for lead for choris for lead to rhythm. Had our heads spinning! Peaking the whole damn time hah! Great times😂 GBTGD
When my daughter gets fussy I throw this on and dance around with her in my arms and sing along makes her almost as happy as it makes me thanks guys love this its something special ❤️
Thank you guys for laying this down. It brings joy to my day every time I listen….RIP to David, I never knew you but your playing will be with me for the rest of my life. Your soul will still carry on in my heart and my ears. Absolutely lovely rendition of those tunes. I’m eternally grateful
What are treasure that footage is, for a time when the people had something to say, and the dead filled the gap of incredible music that carried them through it.
WOW!!! This is outstanding. Finally, all my time watching Jerry/Bob videos pays off with UA-cam algorithms suggesting this video for me. Thank you, gents!
This has been my favorite Dead jam since the first time I heard it fifty years ago, and you guys nailed it. Splendid. Heartfelt. The real deal. Thank you.
So glad your deadheads is still out there man I miss the dead and I miss Jerry thank you for all your doing and keep bringing us the tunes as long as we still got ears to hear him
Just came across this and outside of the Dead themselves in Europe '72 Live, this is the best rendition of "I Know You Rider" I have ever heard. Just wow. Thank you gentlemen!
You lads really nailed it. Such lovely relaxed phrasing, lots of space for expression, very complementary and well worked out - especially the clever bridging sections - but still totally natural. My hat's off to you both. There's an extra verse of "I Know You Rider" that I picked up from a John Renbourn album back in the seventies. He does it as what seems to be a very technical fingerpicking piece in A but it's quite easy I know my baby, She's bound to love me some (x2) Why she throws her arms around me Like a circle round the sun
It's the things like that, that make me believe there's a god somewhere. What more beauty in nature that the evolution happened so that, one day, these two guys met and made this.
You guys play like waves gently folding effortlessly alongside one another.!I missed this video when it was gone, but then i just hit repeat.if y'all plug in to that obelisk,i think we might all get free energy worldwide!!!
If you look closely you can see deer, squirrels, frogs, woodchucks, bears, birds, etc. come to the edge of the woods and listen in on this fantastic cover. Thanks guys!
I've listen n watched this video at least 50 times. This has all the energy of the parking lot banter.. heads sitting on tail gates jamming with acoustics and swapping lead for rythm at the drop of a hat.. amazing good stuff GBTGD ! Thanks for the lift ✌
Hi Dave, met u several times at Northeast Heritage Music Camp and maybe Ashokan Family or Northern Week ( my memories are hazy sometimes). Always enjoyed and admired your relaxed, easygoing ways. To stumble on this sweet offering to deadheads everywhere in the cyber world ........thank you and your friends for sharing. Looking forward to seeing you down the road sometime.
I'm new to these fellows and just about fell out of my chair when I heard this. Both of them are masters. I am saddened that David Surette has left us. He left his mark on the world and our souls.
Wow, what an absolute treat to watch. There's magic being made here. I was so FULLY pulled into this jam. The biggest smile the entire time. Thank you for that, gentlemen. Truly fantastic.
Had coffee with the two of you this morning. Thank you for recording this and sharing your talent with us. If I read correctly, Dave has passed on. I'm thankful for the music he left behind, what a pleasure to listen to. The birds singing in the background just hit the spot. I will be having coffee with the two of you again soon.
@@DeadtotheCore I send my condolences. I do hope to see you guys make more music in the future though. I've since made my way through all of your videos and thoroughly enjoyed them all. I applaud the talent of everyone on the channel and I find your Dead covers to be incredibly tasteful. You are all fantastic musicians and you've managed to take some of the greatest music ever created and put a beautiful twist on it. I believe Jerry would really love it.
@@brandonwillis9302 Really appreciate the kind words. Wow! You two just grabbed this right out of the air. Bobby said songs are just out there to catch. I believe you caught the China>Rider perfectly. Can I hug you both?
This is really amazing... makes me miss those times in my life jamming to the dead, living in beautiful surroundings, sharing in inspired musicianship with friends. Thanks guys!🙏🏻
Amazing. My understanding is that David has since passed which is unfortunate timing on my part to have only heard y’all play today, but my god what an amazing performance. Respectful of the Dead’s song China Cat but not beholden entirely to it and willing to do your own thing and take it different places. Truly great. And then that opening harmony on Rider. Beautiful. The whole thing was just magnificent.
RIP David. I didn’t know you but this song has brought me joy multiple times and from reading about you I see you’ve brought such joy to so many others over the years.

This is the true spirit of the Grateful Dead.
This isn't a cover....This is two people deep in the groove making magic.
For reall tho holy crap
Not seen these guys before but this is some great singing and playing and they're definitely channeling the Dead's magic making groove. Peace.
Sounds kinda weird when you say it like that.
@@SamuelLMeyer I guess I don't see it.
I love the way you put that. A cover is a note for note thing, right? The tune is a form a container that greater musicians make their own.

My go to, feel good music video with two of New Hampshires finest acoustic players. We will miss you Mr. Surette. Thankyou for the inspiration.
Correction, these boys are from over the border in Maine. I'm going to assume they're amongst Maines finest as well.
It ain't much as far as tributes go but I'm playin this at new year in your honour Dave Surette. RIP
Rest easy David Surette. ❤️⚡️💙
