I made this bikini top today. I used a serger and followed this tutorial. It turned out great! So comfortable. I can't wait to swim in it. Thank you so much for the free pattern!
Always love to see you do the invisible seams 😍. I am a bit doubting wether the band will give enough support. I am a C/D cup and I think I would make the band way wider like 4-5 cm. Looks cute!
Me sorprendió la forma en que lo haces. Me gusto mucho. Las terminaciones parecieran no notarse. Lo intentare y espero que me quede igual de prolijo que el tuyo. Saludos desde Argentina.
I'm in the middle of doing this and fell into a bit of trouble and I was looking for the written instructions to help but I am unable to find them when will they be available?
Planning on making this as my very first handmade bikini. Not sure about what size to make though. I'm a 70D/32D. For the top, should I make a size M for the front piece with a size S for the back piece? I don't want the bikini to be too wide, which usually is the case.
Length should be on the shorter side so that it can stretch better! And width is up to personal preference I think, I personally like a taller stitch since I think it's easier to work with!
Hey Katie I've been having trouble with this top not fitting correctly, the waist is really big and the bust is really small and when its finished the waist seems to turn out wavy, my serger tension is all set to 3 and I serge first then serge on the elastic like yours and I'm not pulling any tension in the elastic while sewing, any advice is helpful thank you!!
I notice you said you are using a baby lock evolution serger. I don't have a serger, and this one in particular I googled and it is too expensive for me at this time. Is there another one you could recommend or do all sergers do the same thing?
I have a brother 1034D that works great and it’s much cheaper. I’ve also done fine with just using the zigzag stitch on my sewing machine. I make mostly lingerie and swimwear and the zigzag works great!
Can somebody tell me how to make the final sew? The one that joins the top with the band. I have a Brother serger and I don't know if it's posible to join pieces witout cutting :O
Do you no longer sell fabric? I reallyyyyy want to purchase the fabric you used in this video since I’ve been looking for a ribbed swim fabric FOREVER but I don’t see it on your site :(
I see that there is a 1/4 inch seam allowance. My serger is a new toy, and the guides are for a 5/8 inch allowance. I’m not sure how to get a 1/4 in seam.....any advice? And do you keep the cutting blade up or down with the elastic?
Hi Katie! What model of sewing machine do you have that has a cover stitch option? Iv been looking for a good home cover stitch machine, I’d love your input!
My Babylock Evolution is both a serger and cover stitch machine! But it gets annoying converting it over, so I wish I had a separate cover stitch machine.
@@EdgewaterAve thanks so much for the response!! That's a good point that it might get annoying switching it over but it also sounds also to have a two in one!! Is it a good quality machine? Would you buy one again/recomend it?
Here's a video on how to make straps: ua-cam.com/video/iwZML0q11SA/v-deo.html And elastic is attached right on top of the seam! I've had lots a requests to make an elastic-specific video so I plan to make one that's more detailed :)
Anyone else struggling with sewing on the elastic with a normal sewing machine? Mines just bunching up and not handling it well. ANY tips are helpful!! Thank you!!
I find that pulling the sewn part helps with the bunching. Not roughly, more of a 'guide it away' kind of pulling. I use a normal machine too and put as little pressure on the electric foot as possible so I will sew VERY slowly and that helps me too. If all else fails, you can hand stitch the elastic (which is what I used to do before getting a machine). Hope any of this helps you!
Is a challenge putting the pieces together. The elastic doesn’t all aligned when the piece is on right sides together. Would live to see the video on normal speed. Whats the rush!!!!
There seems to be a lot of older questions in answered. I'm struggling with the fit across the bust. I'm 36 inches but the pattern for 36in is actually 30 for it to fit underneath bust. Disappointed

So glad it worked out!!

Sandwiching the straps looks like a great idea. Then it ensures that the straps stay in place as opposed to sewing on top of the inside or outside.

please dupe some tropic of c bathing suits, they're so flattering
You are the best!!! Keep doing your own thing 😍😍❤️

Do you have to use swim elastic
Thank you Katie ❤I've been struggling with band idea for a long time and finally you opened this tricky secret for me 👍😍
Can you provide a better link or a different link for the pattern? My computer will not open it?
Thisis my first attempt at sewing swim! So I cut the straps/ band with or against the stretch of the fabric?
could you show the version with removable cups please ?
This one shows how to make the removable cups
How do u know how much to stretch the elastic?
Can u link the lining fabric u used?
Thank you! where do you get the fabrics? Its hard to find nice swim lycra..
Here are my favorite places to get swimwear fabric: bit.ly/3tcSwev
Would your bikini patterns work with jersey material? To make them more daywear tops? X
Thanks! What kind of thread do you use on your serger for sewing swimsuit ?
What is the best stitch length and width for a zig zag stitch? Sometimes I feel it’s too loose and I get afraid of it falling apart in the wash!
Length should be on the shorter side so that it can stretch better! And width is up to personal preference I think, I personally like a taller stitch since I think it's easier to work with!
I am trying to get the pattern but it’s not working for me. I am already doing most of these things.

Im having the same problem. Trying to figure it out. Will let you know if I get it right.
Sameeee! The medium is perfect except for the bust 😭😭😭 I’m trying to large now lol
Love it😍 it says the file is invalid and i cannot open it.

IS IT 1/4 INCH ELASTIC FOR MAKING THE BIKINI BOTTOMS? THANKS
Hi, i love IT. But why you add seam if the patterns said the has 1/4 inch seam alow?
The pattern didn’t used to include the seam allowance x
A lot of my videos were made before I started including seam allowance in the pattern, so always go with what the pattern says!
Whats the measures in cm?
