    if you gonna spend money on stencil printer, better buy daja dj6 and let the laser printer do the work.

    I don't have a heat gun. Can I use a hair dryer on high heat?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  10 місяців тому

      It won't get quite as hot as a heat gun so the results will be lighter, but it does work.

    Question about transfer. What is the clear plastic you used to transfer the vinyl to the wood after peeling? Is it specific to the reusable vinyl or another transfer method entirely?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  10 місяців тому

      That's called transfer tape. It's a way to move all pieces of the stencil over easily. It's used just with adhesive vinyl

    I have a question I am new too this and my kit came with some bees wax and when I went to put it on it made my design run! Do you need to let the design set up before putting anything on it like the shimmer or mode podge?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  9 місяців тому

      You should be able to seal or paint the design right away. The beeswax is meant as a sealer to protect the wood. Sometimes wiping on anything can cause the burned wood to run. Melting it first could help. Or just applying it gently.

    When I use the marker, the ink/paint bleeds noticeably. Anyway to prevent this?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  Рік тому +1

      I've had this happen too, the liquid can come out fast and bleed through the stencil. When it does I try to use very little pressure and just barely touch the wood. There are also 2 tips on this particular marker, the brush tip is helpful for controlling the flow of liquid.

    how many times can you use the same stencil?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  Місяць тому

      Just once, however you could make or purchase reusable stencils if you plan to create the same design many times.

    Hi there, would this work on thin wood veneers? Thank you!

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  10 місяців тому

      Bare wood is ideal, the liquid needs something to sink into. I think on a veneer it would just sit on top.

    Thx in advance

      I'm not sure exactly, these wood slices are from amazon. But I've used this marker on birch and pin wood as well as basswood and it's worked well.

    Do the scorching pens work with a propane torch or is that too hot?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  Рік тому

      That would be too hot, you risk burning the wood.

      What about a blow dryer? Or is that not hot enough? @@SarahVanderkooy

    The tutorial was good, however the quality of the burn leaves something to be desired. its bleeding on the edges. I've seen this stuff for sale and the photos show stuff that's a lot more precise..is that photoshopped or can it be spruced up?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  7 місяців тому +1

      The bleeding here is due to the deep grain in this wood. The scorch marker is a liquid and it can bleed under a stencil through the grain. To avoid it, opt for smooth bare wood for crisp results. Or use very little liquid.

    What kind of cricut do you have?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  9 місяців тому

      I use the Maker 3 most often but any Cricut can make stencils like this.

    hello! I am using a 1500-watt heat gun. I have tried the low speed, the high speed...moving it constantly and my 'pattern' remains the orangish color, not 'burning' Any thoughts and thank you!

    Would the marker not work on hangers that have a finish to them?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  2 роки тому

      It has to be used on bare wood, you could sand down the hanger in the spot you want to use this.

      There's a link in the description of the video, it's called enchanted shimmer and comes in a number of different colors. It's also available at some craft stores.

      It's a piece of wood, about a half inch thick. I just used some scrap I had. But it's thick enough that it protects my surface.

    It’s looks nice but something missing. It’s like turkey bacon compared to real bacon. The real wood burning heat pens create a different texture and groove this can’t make

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  Рік тому

      Yes, you don't get a deep engrave like you would with a burning pen or laser engraver. But it's a great inexpensive option for those that don't have the other tools.

    Stupid question could a hair dryer work 😂

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  11 місяців тому +1

      A little bit yes, but in most cases it won't get hot enough to get that rich deep color. Not a stupid question!

      @@SarahVanderkooyso are there any other alternatives besides heat gun propane torch and hair dryer? What about holding it over a stove lol? Or baking it? Just some thoughts
