Angie, THANK YOU for showing us how to make a stencil using the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine. This is the machine I have, and love. I have seen some awesome craft ideas I wanted to make but they can only be made on either Maker or Maker 3, which I don't have, [saving up for Maker 3] so was really disappointed I couldn't make them...or so I thought! Question: Would it be ok to paint a background on after burning the design on, and then sealing, or do I seal the wood first then paint. Sorry.
Thank you so much for making this video I’ve learnt so much. I would like to make small square wood tags and I’m wondering how thick the Cricut Basswood is and if that’s the thickest wood you could use as im worried about the wood bending. I’m also wondering if I use a hot glue gun to stick the basswood to my chosen surface if the glue will come through the wood and stain it?
Nice video, I had to try this today. I put some text on a pine blank but the results look like somebody used a magic marker and wrote on the wood. Did you get the same results or did I do something wrong? thanx for the info,
I am having trouble adding my email address..i would love to learn more and would love to receive gifts from you..u are a awesome teacher and i love your crafts..i am new to this
Usually a poor quality wood or rough surface. It is the marker bleeding out along the lines in the wood. You can try sanding with like 1200 grit sandpaper a few times. Clean well and then burn. Or skip that type of wood altogether.
Have you ever tried Torch Paste? I like it. It's a bit expensive, but a little goes a very long way. Also, just a hint, if you flip your cricut cut wood piece over, you can see better where it still needs to be cut.
Great video as usual, I really appreciate your expertise! For whatever reason I can’t pull up the SVGs is it possible for you to link them again here? 💖 Thanks!
@angieHolden Great tutorial, as usual, thank you. I do have a question though; this past week I have been trying to make a design out of basswood and every time it is messed up. Either the blade tip breaks off (twice) or the wood gets chipped. What am I doing wrong? Please help! 🙏
Wow Angie....this is so cool! Which blade did you use to cut the wood? (Sorry if I missed that) Love your tutorials and your book! It's well organized and full of inspiration 💕
My Scorch marker comes out clear then a light pink as it dries. Anyway, how long between coats when you're doing more than one coat? And how long can it sit before you apply heat?
@@AngieHolden Thanks, Angie! They came out okay, better than my test mugs... I put one design upside down; the second one I forgot to mirror the image. So much for those two mugs! LOL At least I know it works, right? HAHAHA
Hi Angie, Great tutorial. Thank you so much. I have one question, can you use permanent vinyl for the stencil or do you have to use stencil vinyl to use the torch pen? Thanks again❤
Really enjoyed this video and picked up new tips that gives a better finished item. Mostly that you need regular computer to use knife blade. Since I use an iPad you saved me the extra trip and cost of wood that I can't use at this point. But, I also like the two coats- dry- repeat and also the sealing info for the bigger pieces that I can do. Thank you again.
Love your videos!! It was because of you I got my maker. Question, can you use a heat gun that you use for embossing on cards? Or does it have to be one like for stripping paint? Thanks for Sharing and ALL you do.
Hi Angie, you mentioned burning a hand written recipe on a cutting board could you please show a tutorial on doing that. I have a friend, her mother has passed and this would be a great gift for her. Love this technique and have just ordered my marker and heat gun. I would love to see more videos on this. Thanks
Would love to see you do a recipe on a cutting board; is it hard to weed?? My grandma’s writing is in cursive and very curvy lol
I have had this one my mind for a while to try and perfect this! I might add that soon!

You wouldn't paint over the wood burning? But you could go around it I guess.
@@AngieHolden Thank You
How do you prevent the scorch marker from bleeding in the wood
Some wood bleed more than others and not sure how to make it NOT do that.

You can make wood tags but I would not make them very intricate or they can break. The glue shouldn't come through however.

It definitely is an effect that is on top of the wood and not down in to it.

Can you email angie@thecountrychiccottage.net so we can look into it for you?
Is there any way to create a reusable stencil? I need to make 100 wood bookmarks for a wedding
Thanks

Angie do you know what causes it to almost bleed black horizontally?
Usually a poor quality wood or rough surface. It is the marker bleeding out along the lines in the wood. You can try sanding with like 1200 grit sandpaper a few times. Clean well and then burn. Or skip that type of wood altogether.
Thanks❤❤🎉🎉😊😊😊

I find I get my cuts off if I go from the back.
Awesome Video and very helpful Angie! Love all your videos thank you for sharing!!! Hugs Liz x
Just did first trays for family members for Christmas. Used torch paste instead.
Can you watercolor/paint design before you seal?
I think any paint would cover up the wood burning.
@@AngieHolden Thank you
Good tip about getting the marker going first before applying to the wood. I had tried wood burning once and I think this is where I went wrong.
What program do you use?
This is Cricut Design Space.

I only cut the Cricut brand of basswood. I find other brands are hit or miss on quality and I have issues.
Just saw in the supply list, heat gun needs to go at least 900 degrees, don't know temp of my gun for embossing goes.
Embossing guns usually DO NOT get that high which is why I specified.
Hi. Thank tou for the wood burning tutorial. Was hoping to learn how to do a hand written recipe on wood burning..
You would have to upload a picture of the recipe and clean it up. I did that here: ua-cam.com/video/oWBYHBcjmxA/v-deo.html
I would love to try a the larger wood design. How many times can the scorch marker be used before it is used up? Have you tried the ammonium chloride?
I am not sure on how many times? I have used mine several without issue.
That is really awesome! I am really excited to try this!
Great tips! Thank you.

Knife blade with Maker.

I just let it dry between coats? And I let it dry before burning. I haven't timed it.

This is awesome! I never knew this existed. You make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing! I will try this for sure.
You are so welcome!

Permanent vinyl works!
@@AngieHolden ok thank you for answering my question Angie! ❤️
Great tutorial as always, thank you Angie! I know I can count on you for tutorials on harder materials, which are my favourite

Really enjoyed watching your video on wood burning, you were very easy to understand. Do you have one for layering in color?
Very good. Thank I'm going to try this.
Have fun!

You never showed us how to use the scorch pen or heat gun.
It is all in the video.
WHERE DO WE GET THE BASSWOOD?
I recommend the Cricut brand of basswood.
@@AngieHolden ...and STILL...NO LINK? Why even bother
Thank you!
This is the perfect solution for me! I need to put new crosses out in our pet "cemetery."
That sounds like a great project idea!
@@AngieHolden Hubs is out now getting the scorch marker, stencil film, and gloves!
No links to wood??
