How do I get a Band 9 in IELTS Speaking?

In the Speaking test, you will have a discussion with an examiner. It will be interactive and as close to a real-life situation as a test can get.
The Speaking test is 11-14 minutes long and is in three parts.
Part 1 - You will answer questions about yourself and your family.
Part 2 - You will speak about a topic.
Part 3 - You will have a longer discussion about the topic introduced in Part 2.
The Speaking test is the same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training tests.

I got a 9 in the speaking and I was honestly so shocked lol I really was just being myself and trying not to stutter or repeat myself. They grade your ability to communicate as opposed to a “right” or “wrong” answer. Be yourself and let the conversation flow!

Hey , Can you give a brief insight about, what it takes to increase a speaking score to 8/9 from a score 7 ?
I think the biggest thing is confidence in your tone. I don’t necessarily think that they’re are looking for right or wrong answers, but your ability to weave words to together to make a reasonable sentence. I tried not to stutter a lot and it’s not a bad thing to think about the question before answering, you can always pause and say “hmm let me think about that” and then speak. Engage the conversation, don’t be too stiff and it’s okay if you finish talking before the timer runs out!

I saw this video just before 3 days of my IELTS Test and I scored a Band of 8 in Speaking. My overall band is 7. Believe me this guy is a gem. One thing I really notice about this tips of you is that the don'ts do not necessarily come from the lacking of English skills but the habits after being through an education system that focus on memorization and rigid score system: i.e system that rely on points and marks for each ideas. It really make you have the habits of listing and sticking to their planned points. Apart from that, excellent video, as usual!

I have learned Ielts for over 5 months and been to many classes.
I have seen one of my local teachers saying that speaking until the examiner stops you is a good strategy because it shows you have many ideas.

Part 1: Give natural answer as if you are speaking to your friends / colleagues. Not memorized, too long, off topic
Part 2: Bullet points are just guide. Don't follow them rigidly, speak naturally with the main topic in mind and let your idea developed.
Part 3: Converse with longer answers. Develop your idea and articulate it.
>> 💡 Interviewer will ask in different types of tense, condition. Your task is to answer naturally and follow the questions format.

It's really a good comparison between the score bands. I love your formate of detailing the ideas in a crispy way. So long,. I have been very much worring about the topics in case if I am not familiar or didnt have ideas at all, what the mess up I will do , but now after listening your tips about part 3 not only given me a confidence, ofcourse it was a very nice clues about how I should handle the situation without making my brain so stressful

Thank you so much for clearing the differences out. It helps a lot during my journey to achieve band 9. However, I feel like I did exactly everything in the Band 7.0 to 9.0 section, but somehow, I ended up getting band 5 in a mock exam test. It was a bit of a let down but I guess I'll try harder next year.
