    ADVENTURE TIME takes place in the Land of Ooo, a post-apocalyptic world one thousand years after a global nuclear war. But how bad would the war have to be to wipe Earth of humanity? Take a trip with us in the Wayback Machine as Kyle explains on this episode of Because Science, now airing for the first time on the Because Science Channel.

      @Orochi HD in reference to this the chunk that has been chipped away, energy aside, would throw the planet off of its orbit. If not fall into the star then maybe get flung off and become a rogue planet.

    To preface, the original date on this is 2 years before we found out Finn isn't really the last human, so at the time, Kyle didn't have all this information:
    Humans weren't entirely wiped out by the Mushroom War, as we see in multiple episodes there were survivors who moved to islands to avoid what was living on the mainland. The reason humanity declines in Ooo so much more than in a real nuclear war is four-fold.
    First, there's a lot less of humanity to begin with in the area covered by the series. On Earth, we only see the Land of Ooo and its immediate surroundings, not the rest of the planet. The series gradually reveals humanity isn't extinct at all outside of the Land of Ooo, and we see in Business Time and other episodes that the Land of Ooo is just a relatively small island near the crater that was Europe.
    Second, what actually does the wiping out of humanity is competition. We don't have vampires, demons, sentient candy, radioactive mutants, or litches to deal with on modern Earth, or at least if we do there are few enough of them that secret societies can quietly keep them in check without us knowing and make video games and movies about their work for some side money.
    Third, a virus swept through the surviving human population, further depleting them.
    Fourth, and quite literally, because magic. The Mushroom Bomb was clearly established to be both nuclear and magical in nature, containing the essence of the first Catalyst Comet which in turn becomes the Litch. This essence had an intended purpose of ending all life, and we also know it's directly responsible for the magic in the land, the radioactive mutants and all the weirdness that isn't associated with the crown, Mars or Marceline's family.

    not to nitpick but a lot of these estimates focus (due to the sheer complexity probably) on just cities, but I suspect there's an enormous ecological collapse that would accompany a global nuclear war that might push the survivors over the brink that we don't unfortunately have a great understanding of.

    The nukes mostly just made monsters, the monsters are what killed humanity. As a matter of fact, there was no nuclear winter pre-ooh. If you look at the flash backs, the sky is just grey and cloudy, there is no real signs of an unnatural winter, and the survivors mostly just ran away from the cities due to those zombie things. Humanity eventually died out due to monsters and forgetting how rebuild fast enough to combat them.

    • @NoSubsWithContent
      @NoSubsWithContent 3 роки тому

      It started in the 80s, that's when marceline was hanging out with simon, the idea is that the universe started converting over to it's magic half which started driving countries insane so they fought and the radiation kept fueling these magic based artifacts (such as the crown simon wore) which fueled magic based creatures (such as the vampires, those green goooobers, the litch and 99% of other things in adventure time)
      My theory is that the "magic" is just pico technology from an ancient civilization which collects power from wherever it can for a few million years then connects to all the artifacts and magic wielders to give them those crazy powers

    • @sarlottkirjailija
      @sarlottkirjailija 2 роки тому

      i think if an chunk of the planet would be missing, it would reform it self again to an ball, if it is still heavy enought. Because the gravitational force i so strong, that even stone move like a liquit. The Moon is partualy a part of the earth ripped out by an giant astroid impact. At that time the earth was much younger and there fore hotter. The moon is round too, probably it was soft enought that the weaker gravition was enought to form it.
      I have no idea how long it would take the earth to rechape it self if a chunk would go missing. But i am pretty sure it would make live on earth only for the extremest of the extremofiles possible, if there taff and lucky enough to survive.

    I actually doubt that you've seen the whole show because what really caused the mass extinction was 1st a new kind of nuclear bomb much stronger than ones previously 2nd one of these mushroom bombs (yes thats there real name) hit a pool of radioactive material causing an explosion and nuclear fallout a hundred times worse because of the radioactive material being flung into the atmosphere and the 3rd and last is a content sized crater which was caused by something other than the mushroom bombs

    I think that to wipe everything out, there would have to be a nuclear winter followed by a worldwide ice-age.

    Well humanity wasn’t completely wiped out cause you know Finn, but also Lady Rainacorn’s parents mention eat humans.

    I have a question, so in avengers endgame when fat thor goes to the past and gets his hammer back. What would happend if fat thor went back to the present, and the thor in the past tryed to retrieve his hammer?

    • @atlasgraham154
      @atlasgraham154 3 роки тому

      Nothing, because the Thor from the past would have his hammer returned exactly at the moment it was taken. Now, if you want to throw that answer out the window and just have fun with the hypothetical... Nothing. The hammer wouldn't exist in the past, so there'd be nothing to respond to Past Thor's summons.

    The only problem I see is the fact that we don't have those magic elements (fire, candy, slime etc.)

    I know this is a little morbid but I've been thinking about for the past little while what would happen every living thing on Earth just stopped living and I mean things like bacteria too. Every tree, bam dead, plankton in the ocean that's Dead too. Things really wouldn't decompose that quickly because there would be no bacteria to do it's job... Just something to think about.

    It wasn't a nuclear war, it was a "mutagenic" war... perhaps with some nukes involved.
