People exist for wearing this phoney public mask now for 24-7. If they are not recognized by superficial positive feed back, they just project this false self image onto more ridiculous and attention seeking antics. Couple this with a draught of spirituality and wisdom, it is the perfect storm imo. What a hollow and hedonistic culture in this era of social media. I really do wonder how Jung would annaylize this extreme behavior. I speculate he would forsee a disastrous end to a society such as this one. I surely do anyways.
I've been doing shadow work for some time and I really feel the changes. For instance, I'd get easily mad by minor things - that was my shadow. I realized that I was the slave of my own shadow and this woke me up. I didn't want to keep being the slave of my own emotions but rather control them, it's not easy at all, but sometimes you just gotta hold back and be silent, that builds resilience and you'll feel much better about yourself, less regret, and best of all, the environment around you gets better and more positive. It's life changing.
I went through a phase for about 5 years I'm my 20s where I pretty much gave up on life and was a homeless junkie. I managed to get sober after some time and started trying to sort myself out. I identified the attitude I had as part of my shadow, an attitude that didn't give a fuck about anything that led me into my own personal hell. I've played guitar since I was a kid and always thought it would be awesome to write my own songs but I often got in my own way. I would think I could never write a good song or that no one would ever like them so I wouldn't even try. But then I went through this period of crazy inspiration and wrote like 16 songs in 2 months. Afterwards I realized I was channeling that attitude or perspective that I had earlier in life which didn't give a fuck. But I was using it to block my own insecurities and let my creative side flourish. It was unbelievably therapeutic because I was figuring out how to incorporate that part of my shadow that led me to hell for something useful and beautiful. Jung is such a G.
Thank you so much for your moving and insightful comment, Verde. It reflects exactly what I feel, even if I’m not as advanced as you are in my personal journey.
Just worth noting though, people often confuse the shadow as exclusively evil which isn't the case, typically it is, but the concept of the shadow aspect is the conscious mind's undesired traits that are shoved down and suppressed. They could be "good" traits
Definitely worth saying. The shadow is only a shadow because we insist on our personas running the show. All the traits can be used positively. I'm getting much better at integrating my shadow and subconcious but still struggle to recognize my Inferior triggers.
Hi, just a thought. Maybe the 'shadow' would be more accurately described as selfish and/or lacking empathy as opposed to being evil. Evil implies intent. Selfishness is more a childish response to a situation and while it may do harm that is perceived as evil it is more a knee jerk response? Peace.
I think a useful way of looking at it is that while most people would agree the shadow is more often composed of negative traits, the bigger problem really is the repression and surpession of them. I heard a talk recently that mentioned Adam and Eve. That the act of eating the forbidden fruit wasn't as big of a problem as the fact that they felt the need to hide and cover themselves afterwards. We all do lame things at one point or another. The question is can we live and learn or are we stuck with a sense of shame that we continually suppress and allow to become more distorted over time.

Good work! I would only add that Jungian Psychology cannot be summed up in 10 minutes, and not only with words. Nonetheless, this is a very good start, and puts you in the right county. In order to be in the right ball park, I would suggest one needs to get into any of the volumes of The Collected Works--each one has a ball park of its own. Even then, you might need to consider the ball fields related to college, high school, and little league play.
A huge thank you for summarizing with as much conciseness as clarity a subject that is not obvious at all for a neophyte. I have always been passionate about mythological stories. To this end, the Jungian approach to the human psyche sheds a unique light not only on these myths, but also on our own minds, both personal and collective. After watching your video, one can only want to learn more about this fascinating theory. In addition, we can no longer read or watch the classics of literature or cinema as before. Hey brotha, just wanted to say I appreciate your channel! As someone who has always gravitated toward eastern mysticism and their practices and Truths, it is very wonderful to learn from scholars and philosophers I’ve missed that either bring one to the same destination or thrust one on the same path, towards self-awareness and self-actualization, the first stepping stone to peace. I'm greatly enjoying this video series... I realize this is a tiny detail, but I'm pretty sure that Jung consistently spelled the term "extraversion", not "extroversion".
Hm. Nope...: "Intro-" and "extra-". "extra-, prefix. extra- comes from Latin, where it has the meaning "outside of; beyond'': extra- + galactic → extragalactic (= outside the galaxy); extra- + sensory → extrasensory (= beyond the senses). WordReference Random House"

I think this study should be in school syllabus. I dont see this as revolutionary. This is so much compulsory to raise consciousness of each individual as a human.
Hey could you give an example of how not realising the Psychological Projection would result in viewing and portraying the world as a replica of one's shadow? I think that would help me a lot, thanks.
Very well done. Jung explained in a pragmatic, easy to understand way. I have been reading and grappling with Jung for 30 years. Doing so leads to enlightenment or spiritual awakening. There are many paths and the Jungian path is just as authentic and legitimate as all other paths. Jung is far under rated in our culture.
Jung was an amazing man. He created a true message into the depth of human mind and connection to the life and consciousness. His work based on human archetypes is profound. If you go deep and realize how shadows of this archetypes operates you will understand why is our planet already in such mess. For example a magician archetype - if it works from its shadow (even consciously or unconsciously) I saw some youtubers here doing such"work" btw - perfect video! Thank you for share.
I appreciate the video, it's well done. Although, I must say for the most part C.G. Jungs influence on modern psychology is rather controversial. Outside of coining terms such as "introversion vs. extroversion" he's rather frowned upon in modern practice of psychology for similar reasons Freud is (main reason being that their theories are rather the opposite of parsimonious and next to impossible to disprove) . Though, I suppose it very much depends on how you define "modern psychology", whether we talk about therapeutic engagement based on scientific knowledge, dicussion of scholars / intellectuals in psychology or adjacent fields, or certain streams of psychological thought that seeped into mainstream media.
Thank you! Yep. You're right, quite controversial, but has amazing insights into the human psyche. Currently reading modern man in search of a soul by Jung :)
Yes very good I had a course on Jung at Clark University in Worcester. Mass.. the only US university where both FREUD and JUNG lectured in their lifetimes.I had taken GREEK AND Roman Mythology classes and wrote my thesis on the link between Jung and mythology. Later in grad school he and Freud were very much in disfavor it was the 70s and behaviorism Skinner was all the rage. My practice emphasized cognitive therapy later CBT. Psychology is ever expanding and mutating. Evolutionary psychology is adding weight tomthe heritsbñility of certain inherited psychological features. preferences by gender of mate choices for example that led to heightened adaptation of our species so certain variables were more adaptive over thousands of generstions: high hip to waist ratio in women, highly matching facial features descrined as "beauty" cross cultursally, males taller in height than females, ability to protect and provide for gravid and nursing females. My logos is very apparent to me, animus is more dominant in my personality....I am highly rational.and logical...However,.Ilook exceptionally feminine which is disconcerting to people who dont know me well. My physical appearance is not congruent with the dominant festures of my personality. In the currently.accepted typology of personality the FIve Factor Model, I am high in openness, high in conscientiousness, higher in introversion than extroversion, average in agreeableness ie not highly disagreeable and low in neuroticism...this profile is more common in men than in women, so I am indeed animus dominant. I have far more male friends . They tend to have been colleagues in my field or other male academics ...we "get" each other...strictly non sexual relstionships "brothers of the mind" more male friends throughout my life than female ones ...INTJ in the non scientific Myers Briggs typology...again a classification at 1% of the female population there are more male INTJs than female. Sybil Francis PhD clinical psychologist, researcher and professor since 1979.
After taking extensive notes simplifying and summarising the ideas here suddenly saw Gandalf in my mind's eye (in the scene where he is given the news that Sam didn't let Frodo leave alone) saying " Yes...very good. " 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Im no jungian, however I have encountered he works of jung and read quite a bit of his litterature. And I am not sure if the self, anima/animus or the persona fall under archetypes. Rather they are meant to be inherit parts of the psyche. I think archetypes are more representations of different human qualities embodied in a sort of avatar. Like the wise and knowledgeble, but ultimatly tyranical father, and the empathic and creative, but ultimatly chaothic mother. Take this with a grain of salt as this is only my interpretation of Jungs work. Otherwise I thouroughly enjoyed the video.
Agreed. I conceptualised archetypes (arke' = origin) as primordial cognitive-behavioural-emotional personalities which are present, to different degrees, in the collective unconscious of all human beings. They are inherently unconscious, and they "gate keep" our psychic energy; when patients identify themselves with an archetype, let's say the Redeemer, the energy is so strong that it easily leads to psychosis (Jung's account of patients who underwent such). But hey, Jung is a tough nut to crack, his complex theory is spread across so many books and such a long period of time during which the theory was re-adjusted that drawing definitive conclusions is an hard task. I must study much more before being confident of what I say.
As an introvert I often believed extroverted people to be completely incapable of individuation. But the introvert deeply experiences their own experience the extrovert creates opportunity to directly experience the diversity of experience of others. I do have some envy of such direct experience, but reserve some superiority claim of my ability to reflect upon experiences. We all have a great window of divinity. Some broader some more precise.
Amazing. I felt a moment of synchronicity. Trust me that thru experiences; both willed and not willed, an individual that can do types as they need can be created . It is like a blessing and curse.
To be egotistical is to be over focused on the self and many people complain about narcissism but is not our society creating this, so be aware and stop letting modern over technologicalized society turn you toward narcissism. .. You have to feed the self, the mind, and the body the right food to get the self to stop focusing on itself too much...
The art of the "shadow" with a green background. That's the image that appears in my hallucinations when I suffer from sleep paralysis 😲. Right down to the green color
I'm no psychologist (I'm a manual therapist) and I witness the physical ''damages'' (esp. insidious pain like common back pain, neck pain that don't have a clear physical traumatic base) caused by the unreckognized shadow on a daily basis. It's quite a workaround to still help them in some fashion through my hands alone without delving in the psychology ... I guess dealing with my own shadow myself should help me the most in that process.
i’ve been wholly aware of my shadow for a while now, since i’ve done my fair share of psychedelics (2 heroic doses). It’s a battle that you have to not only fight, but win. The longer you are unaware of your shadow, the longer it remains an uphill battle. (some quick thoughts)
I've been somewhat aware of my shadow for a while now, since I've done my fair share of therapy (10 years). It's a conflict that you have to not only understand, but heal peacefully. The longer you remain fighting against your subconscious, the longer you'll remain split and unwhole.
I've created a framework based on human structurization of 4, where there are four elements of Being: Conscious, Sphinx, Engine, & Autoschema. All phenomena within the multiverse posess these four elements, albeit to different degrees. For Conscious beings like Humans, we must adhere to the traits of Conscious most, to avoid falling to the "subservience" expressed by the other dynamics. The conscious aspect is quickly recognized as the Ego, the other 3 are categorized as one equally-important-but-not-as-powerful ID. Hence, we see how the self can gain control over Conscious aspects while still being manipulated by "shade" aspects - called "shade," not "shadow", because a 4-dimensional framework not only acknowledges the Black, White, & Gray in between, but also the Brown; the representative "midpoint" of color. In short, ontology errs in attempting to outline everything in two. We are higher-dimensional beings; our frameworks must present as such 🧿🕊
I've checked out Freud's works and found them interesting but never really dug into Jung. But now I must! A lot of things I've felt and thought it seems that Jung has a lot of research and dwellings into.
What might add to the confusion is the fact that the word 'animus' has acquired an entirely separate meanibg -- referring to a strong aversion or anger towards something/someone. So that (in this other sense) one might say, we have an 'animus' towards what's in our shadow.
My unconscious self is free, it’s filtered through this body and memories and creates a restrained experience , I want to step into my shadow and come out the other side. ;)
Would this mean a personality disorder is actually a manifestation of the personal shadow? A personality disorder is both inherent and also acquired through trauma. But if a psychopath's amygdala is never developed then psychopathy cannot be assumed as originating from the shadow... This is confusing.
The persona is just a way to live peacefully in society. It's a sign of adaptation and survival. Because only showing yourself as a threat to others leads to conflicts and is not beneficial for the individual , unless he is a psychopath.
“Patients suffering from delusional episodes often focus their paranoia on an external tormentor…especially one conforming to jungian archetypes. In this case, a scarecrow” -Dr. Jonathan Crane
Alot of confusion on persona in modern day is context. A time and place for certain behaviors or discussions also ettique. Ex. you may talk about something personal to a close friend or parent rather than someone you just met.
Superb content. Your standards are high. For anyone who has a hard time connecting to the concept of the collective unconscious, or even the personal unconscious, I'd recommend the judicious use of psychedelics. Used correctly, they are quite an education. I'm amazed that Jung understood the things he did without extensive use of psychedelics. They really open your eyes. Especially Ayahuasca, it's easily the highest teacher and healer. I've done a lot of psilocybin and LSD, but they simply don't compare with Aya. In fact, I'd say Huachuma is probably more useful than LSD, but that's just my opinion.
I dont know if anyone else feels like this, but if you put less “whisper” in ur voice i’d be much more inclined to listen and absorb… the whisper is making it hard for me to stay tuned in and not go to sleep
Why do we say anima/animus belongs to the shadow if the first refers to collective inconscious and the second to personal inconscious ? Does that mean its manifestation is personal but its symbol is collective ? Is the shadow closest to the conscious than anima/animus ?
Ive been looking for a map to jungian psychology, it helped a lot! Tnx Edit:so shadow is part of personal unconsious and anima/us part of collective unconsious?
I stopped the video after 1 minute because the S letter was so apparent and it got me a headache right away. Your content seems promising but I can't continue the video, please use a de-esser effect to reduce this. Thank you
I disagree that the collective unconscious is a genetic trait. He saw a lot of similarities in archetypes and attributed them to having a physiological origin. My theory is that culture has a self organizing principle that produces these archetypes as a result of cultural emergent behavior, not a physiological basis and not the product of biological evolution. Culture simply hasn't existed long enough to have any significant effect on the unconscious, and that self organization of society is more than adequate to explain similarities between cultures. The so called collective unconscious is simply inferred by observing society and adopting the culture of ones birth. It is inherited after birth.

Thank you that felt concise yet complete.
I understand the archetypes way better than I did before. Big thank you ❤
Great Video Dude!!! Just want to let you know out of my appreciation to your videos that your pronunciation of "S" sounds seems a bit too loud and stingy to the ear. You can remove that using audacity or by using an Digital Audio Workstation. Please continue on making more of these videos!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Yep! I've worked on the sound problem on my other videos using audacity. Thanks for the concern ;)
That quirk of pronunciation actually makes the word “shadow” really foreboding and distinct. Imo
Loved this, gonna learn more about psychology and the shadow after your newest vid about Lacan, also I cant believe this is your mos popular vid! Also almost 5000 subs!
That's awesome. Yeah, this video is doing great! We're growing quickly thanks to people like you. Cheers!
Wow, an excellent presentation, thank you.
Subscribed.
Keep doing what you're doing
❤️
Amazing video, thanks for uploading 😊
Bible cuts to the golden point , if something isn't done in love, then fear is all that's left..fear of love , fear of abuse.. love is confident, bold, and spontaneous
The video and narrative are pretty hard to digest, had to rewind several times, though very rewarding!
I think this study should be in school syllabus.
I dont see this as revolutionary. This is so much compulsory to raise consciousness of each individual as a human.
You need adults who are awake to be able to teach this. And the awake humans are trying to save humanity from the Illuminati 😢
Great video
I am trying to be more aware of my surrounding and what I do but sometimes I don't think
This video has been helpful to me
Thanks for the kind words! It is often not easy to understand why we do something. Carl Jung offers a great perspective.
At last i got to know my guru . Enjoying it the most.
Hey could you give an example of how not realising the Psychological Projection would result in viewing and portraying the world as a replica of one's shadow? I think that would help me a lot, thanks.
to anyone who has not yet experienced it by himself
Very well done. Jung explained in a pragmatic, easy to understand way. I have been reading and grappling with Jung for 30 years. Doing so leads to enlightenment or spiritual awakening. There are many paths and the Jungian path is just as authentic and legitimate as all other paths. Jung is far under rated in our culture.
I love your channel my friend , never stop making content please ❤️🙏🏼
Brilliant video, love the Sean Connery accent!
Thank you Lahiru, appreciate the compliment!
Sean Connery ??!?! Maybe he's licensed to kill ?
Where would you situate James Bond within the Jungian framework .?? A tricky question
I realise by even very short opinion would be interesting ?
Jung was an amazing man. He created a true message into the depth of human mind and connection to the life and consciousness. His work based on human archetypes is profound. If you go deep and realize how shadows of this archetypes operates you will understand why is our planet already in such mess.
For example a magician archetype - if it works from its shadow (even consciously or unconsciously) I saw some youtubers here doing such"work"
btw - perfect video! Thank you for share.
wow...just wow!!! i am amazed and very thankful for your presentation

Manh I so loved it... A week class in 10 minutes easily understood 👏👏
After taking extensive notes simplifying and summarising the ideas here suddenly saw Gandalf in my mind's eye (in the scene where he is given the news that Sam didn't let Frodo leave alone) saying " Yes...very good. " 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I can't believe BTS led me to this earlier than any other academic assignments
Haha, the internet :P
Im no jungian, however I have encountered he works of jung and read quite a bit of his litterature. And I am not sure if the self, anima/animus or the persona fall under archetypes. Rather they are meant to be inherit parts of the psyche. I think archetypes are more representations of different human qualities embodied in a sort of avatar. Like the wise and knowledgeble, but ultimatly tyranical father, and the empathic and creative, but ultimatly chaothic mother. Take this with a grain of salt as this is only my interpretation of Jungs work. Otherwise I thouroughly enjoyed the video.
I agree with this take, since nothing is concrete it’s up to interpretation which is what makes it so fascinating imo
He was definitely on to something, I realized encountered trickster archetype on mushrooms, befrlore I ever knew any of those terms and theories.
I remember reading somewhere that everyone had three lifes, a public life, a private life and a secret life .
This was super interesting, but maybe watching it at midnight wasn't the best idea ._.
Thank you! Yeah, I agree on that :P
Your voice....geeezzzz! it gives me creeps especially in the part of shadow explanation.
I hoped for a deeper elaboration on the archetypes and archetypes only.
Muy buen vídeo sobre los arquetipos jungianos, gracias por los subtítulos en español!
Un placer, ¡espero que te haya servido!
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!
THATS JUST AMAZING
You're very welcome! :)
i’ve been wholly aware of my shadow for a while now, since i’ve done my fair share of psychedelics (2 heroic doses).
We are higher-dimensional beings; our frameworks must present as such 🧿🕊
Great thanks to you, specifically, I got into Carl Jung's books.
This video was easy to follow, well explained 💯
Great video!
Fantastic video! But 4 ads within a 10 minutes video, yikes!
Fantastic video!
Can you please recommend a good book about this topic?
Good content!!
A good book you might like is called
The power of you're subconscious mind
Written by Joseph murphy
Its also here on youtube by master key society
The persona is just a way to live peacefully in society.
It's a sign of adaptation and survival.
Because only showing yourself as a threat to others leads to conflicts and is not beneficial for the individual , unless he is a psychopath.
Peacefully? There is hardly a precedent for a peaceful society - not even in friendship can there be peace - it's all compromise
Finally found what explained it well. Finally understood it better. Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
“Patients suffering from delusional episodes often focus their paranoia on an external tormentor…especially one conforming to jungian archetypes. In this case, a scarecrow” -Dr. Jonathan Crane
This is excellent. Thank you so much.
Alot of confusion on persona in modern day is context. A time and place for certain behaviors or discussions also ettique. Ex. you may talk about something personal to a close friend or parent rather than someone you just met.
Great visuals! Very well done,
Kilka dni temu obudził mnie w nocy mój własny uśmiech.
Zdarza mi się to dość często.
Dziwne uczucie ale miłe.
Awesome 👏
Thank you for such detailed video.
Super video
This channel is excellent, in clearness, in content choice, visually, and narration wise.
Great work!
Thank you come again
great explanation!!
That Nosferatu clip was actually terrifying holy crap
Had to put captions on for the Sean Connery protege
who here is a persona (video game) fan and just had their mind absolutely blown? 🤯
Ive been looking for a map to jungian psychology, it helped a lot!
Tnx
Edit:so shadow is part of personal unconsious and anima/us part of collective unconsious?
Suchhhhhh a great recap wow.
Wow. This was fantastic
I stopped the video after 1 minute because the S letter was so apparent and it got me a headache right away. Your content seems promising but I can't continue the video, please use a de-esser effect to reduce this. Thank you
Great teachings thanks!!
"Spend more time investigating yourself than consuming outside ideas"
I disagree that the collective unconscious is a genetic trait. He saw a lot of similarities in archetypes and attributed them to having a physiological origin. My theory is that culture has a self organizing principle that produces these archetypes as a result of cultural emergent behavior, not a physiological basis and not the product of biological evolution. Culture simply hasn't existed long enough to have any significant effect on the unconscious, and that self organization of society is more than adequate to explain similarities between cultures. The so called collective unconscious is simply inferred by observing society and adopting the culture of ones birth. It is inherited after birth.
I disagree too👍
Thank you for what you do.
Wow great explanation! I love Jung
Thank uuuu so much💐💐
Most welcome :)
