@@ronaldnelson6692 I used to think no one even came close to Prince's half time show, but Bruno Mars was a close second. After that, its not close at all. Orice is the best. Hands down. And yes, she really needs to do the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance. She thinks this is a great guitar performance, she's going to be blown away (again), lol.
Prince is a bad ass guitarist. Check out the 'Guitar gently Weeps' tribute to George Harrison. I have been a fan since his debut album Prince around 1980. His entire catalog is fabulous.
To get the full context of this video and this song the purple rain movie is a must also prince was and always will be a legend and 1 of the greatest guitarist of all time but he also is a music god the exact amount of instruments prince was able to play is beyond belief rest in purple paradise prince
I do like to see the younger generation discover Prince...if u do deep dive into him u are in for 1 hell of a ride...been a musician yourself you will appreciate just how much of a genius he was....Great reaction
I was so blessed to live throughout the 80s as a Teenager...that Decade will never ever come again or anything come close...The Music, The Fashion, and the Sensual feel was top notch
Prince's performance of this song from his 1985 Syracuse concert is worth checking out, as is his cover of "Motherless Child". There is a lot of great stuff out there by Prince.
I saw Prince live a few years ago at his last tour. During this song, they had canons blast purple confetti into the air and it filled the arena and rained down purple for the last half of the song. It was incredible.
You should watch the movie. Eric Clapton said he saw it “at a time when I thought rock and roll was dead, then I went to see Purple Rain. ... (and I thought) this is someone who is a reincarnation of Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown in one. I thought that’s exactly what the world needed. Very controversial figure but I love him dearly and I think musically he’s a genius.”
This was from the Movie "Purple Rain". In the Theaters when this song played, hands were being raised and lighters lifted by the audience! This Movie is worthy of a Reaction, as it has a lot of songs by Prince, Apollonia 6 and Another 80's Icon, Morris Day and the Times!
I saw him once, in a 2500-seat concert hall. He played for nearly three hours. I was sober as a judge, but there are parts I can not remember. He lifted you up, took you to some other place, and you landed softly long after the show was over.
You should have seen him perform live at a random club that he came to after a concert. The man introduces his bad by playing every instrument before his bandmate takes over. God I loved Prince.
Great reaction, i shed a tear everytime i hear the ending of that guitar solo, being a child of the 70's i watched this man in his greatest form, him and MJ had differences and i aint taking nothing from MJ but Prince was a musician a performer and artist that we dont have in these times. awesome reaction thank you so much.
Prince was the greatest singular artist and producer in terms of overall talent of the entire rock and roll era. He may not have been THEE greatest at anything but he was ONE of THEE greatest at nearly EVERYTHING. Vocals, guitar, bass, drums and piano. Nearly virtuosic on everything. Solely wrote and produced 39 studio albums for himself and nearly as many for others. The majority during his heyday certifying Gold, Platinum or Multi Platinum. With the Purple Rain soundtrack going Diamond. In the summer of 1984 Prince had the number one movie at the box office, number one album AND single on the charts at the same time for several weeks. Nobody ever did that. He gave the general consensus greatest halftime performance in history at Super Bowl 41 in Miami ending on the song Purple Rain during an actual Thunder and Lightning Storm and downpour. Has the most streamed guitar solos of any artist in history. Gave the most iconic performance in the history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Sold over 150 million records on his own terms Took on his record label and eventually won all his master recordings back Donated millions upon millions to charities without taking credit Saved Coachella in 2008 and the festival turned a corner after that and started booking major talent like Kanye and Beyoncé. Won an Oscar. Directed several movies and concert films. As well as most of his videos. Has over 1200 reported songs he wrote in his vault at various stages. Including full movies, music videos and abandoned albums. On their best days The Beatles and MJ couldn’t hold his guitar case. He made the greats seem like amateurs in comparison. Like him or his music or not there is no denying his superior overall talents and hard work unless you’re lying or a stand up comedian. He also was a phenomenal band leader, athletic dancer who could do splits and twirls and leaps and mic stand tricks all while holding a guitar and singing. I once saw him play classical piano upside down. He was only 5’2 but his talent made him a giant. And he could steal any gorgeous woman from anyone all while wearing lace, makeup and 4 inch heels. Dude was a stone cold killer. Was on his own frequency. 💜💜💜♊️♊️♊️
The guitar is called the "Cloud" and is based on a peach colored bass that André Cymone gifted to Prince (Prince is not only a great singer and guitarist, he had been able to play over a dozen instruments for most of his life) -- this particular one, the white Cloud six string was custom made by a man named David Rusan. Schecter and a few others have since put out (mostly bad) copies of the guitar but the original peach colored Cloud bass was possibly made by guitar makers from the company Spector. AFAIK it was unmarked and no serial numbers
Prince could play every instrument in his band and did in many of his songs because he had more control over how the music sounded and how his songs would be heard when someone heard it for the first time. He is probably the most underrated guitarist in the history of the music industry!!! He was an incredible guitarist!!
You HAVE to see Prince doing the colab of "While my Guitar Gently Weeps"!!!!! That Live performance marked Prince name in the greatest guitar players of all times. He is playing with a stage full of great musicians and he leaves all of them dumbfounded with his performance!
Congratulations on discovering the GOAT. Nothing he couldn't do, he also wrote and produced all his material, could play almost every instrument he needed (not brass) and was a phenomenal performer. Try It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night live for another side of him - dancing and playing the drums.
His "Sign 'O The Times" concert film is one of the greatest things ever recorded. Absolute peak Prince, and every single song in the movie is stunning.
Hells, yeah! To me that's peak Prince. (As if he's ever anything less?) I wish more people would check that one out. vs the standard, PR, Let's Go Crazy, Rasp Beret... I mean Housequake, Dorothy Parker, Hot Thing... come on! D.M.S.R. Live in Detroit is next level. My sweet brother is in FULL command of everyone in that house!
The guy with the hat and sunglasses in the movie was the owner of the club Prince played in and he's showing emotion and acknowledging that Prince finally got the understanding of stop letting his ego and stubbornness keep him from reaching out to the people satisfying them more than himself including his band.
He played in a football stadion in the City in Hamburg. I live 20 km away from the location and could listened to the music at my terrasse. Great concert it was.
His guitar in Purple Rain is called the cloud. He had another guitar in the late 90s until he passed, that was shaped like the symbol he changed his name to. It's called the Love Sign. You want a good live performance, check out his Superbowl performance or if you want to hear him do a bass duet, he does Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage. You get both, an awesome guitar solo and bass duet.
You have to check out his guitar solo in „while my guitar gently weeps“ which he did with Steve Winwood and others at a Rock ´n roll-hall-of-fame event. Remember Eric Clapton being asked „How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist alive?“ answered: „I have no idea - ask Prince“ 😉
This song will resonate with you more if you watch this performance in the “Purple Rain” movie… all the emotion will make more sense for you… plus it’s a cool movie
I'm so happy for you that you've discovered Prince, he is the Musicians' Musician, the God of Music, a modern day Mozart, just to name a few. You're in for a trip, enjoy it girl! O(+>
Rec watching the whole film for complete context, great song but also great scene, Went to see this 7 times when it came out in High school, good memories ✌️!
What most people don't know that the opening lyrics of "never meant to cause you trouble" was referring to his relationship with his father. "I could never steal you from another" referring to his relationship with his at the time girlfriend and "say you need a leader" was referring to his band planning on going their separate ways.
Just look up “While my guitar gently weeps”. That guitar solo at the end cements Prince’s legacy as the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be!
Love your emotional reaction to the one who was my inspirator and God figure when I was young. This song still makes me emotional, saw him in four concerts in Holland and miss him everyday. Try ‘sometimes it snows in April’, ‘Raspberry Beret’ and ‘I would die 4 u’ ❤
The Purple One may be one of THE greatest musical talents of the 20th Century. He was a multi-talented genius who could play almost every instrument he put his mind to, and may have had perfect pitch. New Power Generation member Sonny T said after his passing that all Prince had to do was hear a song and he could immediately play it. Prince wrote somewhere between 500 to over ONE THOUSAND songs altogether, though not all of them were officially released. In addition to pieces performed by himself and his own bands, he provided songs for numerous other artists: Sinéad O'Connor (Nothing Compares 2 U) Manic Monday (The Bangles, which he reportedly wrote as a love letter to Susanna Hoffs. Then again, just about EVERY guy in the 80s crushed on Susanna Hoffs) No Doubt (Waiting Room) Alicia Keys (How Come You Don't Call Me) Cyndi Lauper (When You Were Mine) Among MANY others. He also contributed to the soundtrack for the 1989 Batman, including the famous Batdance. Although Purple Rain may be Prince's most iconic song, it was actually not his biggest hit. That goes to When Doves Cry off the same album, which charted at #1 for five weeks. Prince's work is famous for its suggestive lyrics, and his entire image was heavily sexually-charged. As a result, he's actually responsible for the modern music rating system and led to the creation of the Parental Advisory label. When Tipper Gore had her freakout at the record industry in the 1980s, it was because of her daughter's Prince albums (specifically the song Darling Nikki). RIP His Royal Badness.
The best live performance of this song I saw uploaded here on UA-cam, just search for the 1985 American Music Awards, Prince and his band are introduced by Lionel Ritchie...one of if not the best solo Pince ever played is at the end of the song...if you're a Prince fan, you owe it to yourself to watch that vid....🤘🏻🇺🇸
Prince was absolutely AMAZING, AND SPECTACULAR! NOT JUST AS A MUSICIAN, BUT ALSO AS A PERFORMER!!!!!!!!!! HE WAS TAKEN AWAY WAY TOO SOON!!!!!!!!!! In the movie, no one really liked him, but in this scene, he won EVERYONE OVER!!!!!!!!!! It's really, REALLY TOUCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, you need to get a few live concerts from him, to see what he can REALLY DO!!!!!!!!!!!
The day after Prince died, almost every rock band did a tribute to him while on tour.David Gilmour,Jeff Beck,U2,Bruce Springsteen and so many more.He was a virtuoso musician and a musical genius.
You should check out “It’s Gonna Be a Beautiful Night” and “Bany I’m a Star” . If you check out the Super Bowl Peru, please watch the entire halftime performance and not just the song ‘Purple Rain’. The entire show is a must to get the full experience.
Supposedly, according to his producer she stated there is enough unreleased Prince music if they released and album a year..... it would take over 100 years to release it all. There are no others like Prince.
If you need more Prince, his best albums are Sign o' The Times, Purple Rain, Dirty Mind and 1999. That would be a great starting point. After that, you can check out Parade, Lovesexy, Around the World in a Day and Diamonds & Pearls.
See the movie! You like when he play guitar.... See when he play the Piano...... He play every Strument in many track. Think who inspire Lenny in these years? You are so great. I like when you learn from the past. You are amazing.
“Purple Rain” was initially conceived as a country-inflected duet with Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, who turned it down, claiming Prince’s vision for the song was “too much” for her. All that’s left of its country origins is its evocative title - which Prince lifted from the song “Ventura Highway” by the folk-rock group America, of anonymous-horse riding fame (A Horse with No Name). The transition from country to atmospheric stadium rock wasn’t instigated by Prince himself, but by Wendy Melvoin, the 19-year-old guitarist in his backing band, The Revolution. During rehearsals, she hit upon the indelible opening chords, inspiring Prince to take the song in a completely different direction. After six hours of non-stop practice and experimentation, “Purple Rain” was all but written.
Loved your reaction! I had the same feeling you did the first time I saw Prince. He's a mesmerizing genius. He's the greatest performer I've ever seen-I was lucky enough to see him live over 20 times and even attended several of his infamous after parties and after-shows. I'd check out something from his 1982 album "1999" next. It's the one right before his Purple Rain album The title track is a fun party song that's about the end of the world. It's also a great introduction to the "Minneapolis Sound" that he's the creator of. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/rblt2EtFfC4/v-deo.htmlsi=x0ePX9JL9-TkQd06 The Minneapolis sound was prevalent in the 80s and there were many imitators

Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/rblt2EtFfC4/v-deo.htmlsi=x0ePX9JL9-TkQd06
The Minneapolis sound was prevalent in the 80s and there were many imitators
You need to watch 1985 live version.
This is a great song but he really gives it up in that performance
Many great songs from the 80s.
===GREAT ETHERNAL SONG!!==== I'M 51 YO, SINGLE MAN, FROM SÃO PAULO-BRAZIL SOUTH LATIN AMERICA ! AND YOU TEEN BLONDIE GIRL SO LOOK STYLE ROCK AND SMART AND SWEET ENERGY YOUNG PROMISSOR !! THANKS SO LOT!
One of the greats for sure!
Happy to see that Prince still has the same effect on women!
Check out Prince When Doves Cry
The “songstress” Anita Baker gives me chills when she sings. I call her my wife in another life.
Check out "Let's Go Crazy" and "When Doves Cry". Also you should see him do the splits - there are plenty of Prince splits "reels" on UA-cam.
If you haven't already ready check his other ones like If I was your girlfriend, Kiss, When doves cry, Little Red Corvette, 1999 and Controversy.
Watch the movie....masterpiece
