      @@HollyandRay Question.....did you all grow up in this lifestyle or around it? If not, how'd you learn? How'd you make the $$ to afford it? I totally understand there is NO blueprint for everyone to make $$ the same way, but out of curiosity. Business owners? Stocks? Investing? Internet success? Good Old fashioned hard work saving that dough?? hahaha. We for sure dream of living on the water someday, probably not for the rest of our lives, but we've never been out on a sailboat. Wondering how we could get that experience. We really know very little about how to get on a sailboat. No one we know owns a sailboat....no one I know knows someone with a sailboat! lol!!! I'm affraid if I just show up to a marina with my family to get an experience, we will get ripped off or taken advantage of.....I guess as a video suggestion, maybe talk about how someone like Me and my Holly could get into this, or at least try it out! Maybe folks like you all could do day trips for people like us, and we can pay you an amount that we feel isn't too much, and you feel is a nice profit? Just thinking out loud here.

      We’re both currently living off of savings and investments. Holly was a microbiologist before boat life, and Ray was an engineer/business owner. We’ll probably need to work again at some point, but for now, we’re enjoying our freedom! We’ve met plenty of couples who work remotely (thanks to Starlink) and others who dock their boats and fly to their land homes periodically to work.
      As for getting into it: we’d recommend trying an in-person sailing class. Companies like LTD Sailing here in Grenada take folks out for a week at a time, so you can get a feel for boat life while also getting a couple of sailing certifications. ⛵️

      @@HollyandRay Awesome. Yeah, I am an Engineer as well...what are the odds the Rays are both engineers? My wife is now homemaking on the homestead, raising the boys, we just entered foster care also. Holly used to do background checks and credentialed Doctors to make sure they are who they say they are...She is so happy to not be working right now. I plan to have her not work hopefully permanently. Its so wonderful having an adult do things on the homestead, that I can trust to do things right.
      Thanks for the advice on sailing. Next year is our 15 year anniversary, so we might do a week on a boat. I'll look into that. Much appreciated!

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  2 місяці тому

      Thank you! We usually motor with a single engine at about 2200 rpm. That burns about a gallon per hour and, depending on sea state, gives us about 5.5 kts of speed.

      Thank you! Our table top lifts up and we just swap the legs out for shorter ones- it’s an easy job for the two of us, but can get tricky if you try to do it yourself! Hi! I love the boat! I wanted to ask how tall Ray is and if head space is ever an issue for him. I've found it difficult to find how tall the space is from floor to ceiling in lots of these catamarans. Thanks, great video!

    Hi, I was wondering what the bow cabin’s would be like for sleeping. Especially what kind of length they are (thinking narrow bed but for someone around 6.3” tall!) Also likely to be a problem for heat in warm weather? I guess not much ventilation in those little spaces.. thanks!

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  Рік тому

      Hi! If you’re referring to the actual forward cabins, they are full cabins and are very comfortable (full bed, 2 hatches and a fan, so airflow is no problem). However, if you’re referring to the forepeaks, they would be very uncomfortable to sleep in. We use them for storage, and they are cramped, hot and stuffy!

    Great job guys! Was just on a 45' Leopard for a week in the E. Carrib, is it common that these cats can't run a generator while underway? Also, do you have DC air conditioning units? Can you run the AC at night without the generator? Thanks guys!

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  Рік тому +2

      We’ve ran our generator underway, but there can be issues if there is a big sea state. Our air conditioning units are AC. We can run them off our batteries, but we don’t because they would drain them fast!

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  2 роки тому +1

      Ours was done in the Caribbean, but JustCats does really good solar and commissioning work. As for the generator- you can see if Leopard will install everything you need for one without actually installing the generator itself and you can make that decision after you have a chance to use your solar/wind setup, see if you’d actually use a generator.

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  2 роки тому +1

      If we had to do it all again we’d probably keep the generator, but pay the extra $$$ for a quieter unit! We’d probably use it more often for AC/hot water if ours wasn’t so freaking loud😂

    Hi, some people really talk bad about Lagoon catamarans....we like the 46 and especially the 55....do you have any info that could help us understand if Lagoons are good boats or bad boats?....some comments talk about the finishes not holding up?....ie cabinets and veneers....others say the toilet tank placement causes the toilets to back up and stink?

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi! You can find negative remarks about every boat. We’ve had Sabado since 2018, and we’ve had to add some adhesive to the veneer on the sides of the bathroom doors, but that’s it. Any boat with veneer will likely peel over time; that’s not a Lagoon specific issue. Our friends on FPs and Leopards have dealt with it, too!
      We haven’t had the toilet issue you mentioned… not sure if that’s a problem on the 42s. Overall, most production boats are just platforms to improve upon, so buy a boat you love enough to deal with its problems! Our Lagoon has been good to us. 💙

    • @CB-yv3ec
      @CB-yv3ec 9 місяців тому

      That's good to hear....we follow Sailing Joy also and they also say they trust and love their 46...they said the first year and a half had a lot of things break but most of it was from outside vendors not Lagoon.....because the 55's are so new and the first ones are just now being finished we haven't found any info from owners....we think the layout of the 55 is the best we've seen....inside and out....I wish I could have straight shafts instead of sail drives and a owners version but they are not willing to do either....Portifino is building some really promising boats but none finished yet....I like the Knysna 550 a lot also and they will make what we want at a better price than the Lagoon 55 with much better looks, fit and finishes but 3 years to get one....really appreciate your input....we are asking everyone we can about the boats they own to hopefully end up happy with what we choose....I do find it strange that in all of the boat shows you don't see any of the main youtuber channels talking about Lagoon.....or Knysna for that matter.....I wonder if they are somehow paid to just promote what they do?.....glad you love your boat it looks great.....happy sailing....will be looking for your videos...Carl & Karen
