Just a couple of sailors trying to stay afloat and filming along the way! With no jobs and no plan, we live every day like it’s Saturday. ⛵️

STUCK in French Polynesia— Now What?
After deciding to leave French Polynesia 6 months earlier than we had initially planned, it seemed like everything was lining up perfectly for us to make a last-minute trip to New Zealand ahead of cyclone season. Unfortunately, our weather window disappeared in a matter of hours, ultimately forcing us to check back into the country and commit to staying through April. Join us for this transitional period where we fully embrace Plan B- watching a local outrigger canoe race and starting to make our way back East.

Luckily, the picturesque mountains and fluorescent green water of Bora Bora made it all worthwhile. 😍 ⛵️Join the Crew on P...

Join us for a rough week in the Tuamotus, a notoriously exposed island chain offering little to no protection if a storm rolls through.😬 We wait out a five-day blow in Makemo before sailing overnight to Fakarava to refuel. The forecast drastically changes at the last minute, and we find ourselves bouncing around in an unprotected anchorage… 🫣 It’s not always sunshine and snorkeling out here! ⛵️...

Looks like a ton of fun! I'm happy for you two.
Gold digger 100%
Great video, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed this one! :)
You can also put dry white rice in your spice jars that works well.
Wow you sure packed a lot into this video. I hope you have good luck with your repairs. You are always prepared with a back up plan, which makes so much sense. Friggin view such language🤣 really. It looks like you will be staying put for a while, but I am sure it will work out. Smart choices to put safety first. Well as usual great video
Very cool, kind of like a modern day Pompeii.
Totally!
You guys are great, really enjoy your videos. Don't mean to pry and maybe I missed it in the earlier videos but why was it so tough in French polynesa? What happened?
Thank you for your kind words! We’ve just had some miserable and unpredictable weather this season and haven’t been thrilled with the anchorage conditions (VERY deep, often rocky or covered in coral, new regulations + hostile locals + termite swarms in the Society Islands) it’s difficult to pick up a camera during those times and probably unpleasant to watch, but we speak more openly about it on our blog if you’d like to check that out! :)

@2:37 You guys... Sabado is just stunning! Tuesday, 11/12 I'm putting my deposit down on my boat. Yachtworld and look for Wild Things. I hope to see you guys soon!
We think so too! ❤️ Welcome to the lagoon family🥰
I would think cautious sailors live longer and have less stress….
I like the way you think😉
That's my exact attitude about everything. I do not feel good being rushed. I plan out my travel for a reason. If I feel rushed, either mentally or in reality, I don't go because bad shit happens. I'm sure you have your reasons for posting short videos, but I'd truly love longer episodes. Your approach to sailing (and just about everything else) is pretty much how I go about my daily life, and I enjoy your videos very much.
Thank you for the encouragement! We are just two sailors who stumbled onto UA-cam when making videos for our family during COVID, so we’re still trying to get used to picking up the camera more often… we’ve got a new camera lens coming soon so hopefully that’ll help inspire us to film more! 🤞🏼
Thank you.
Thanks for watching! 🥰
OH My Gosh ‼️ Another bunch of days in paradise. Can you handle it? Of c.o.u.r.s.e. 🎉🎉🎉 Nice to see you guys are safe and tucked in. 🙂✌🏻Bummer on the sail drive. 😢 See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
It’ll be rough, but I think we will survive!! 😉
just started my binge watching from the oldest video posted. Exciting. Nice to meet you Holly and Ray. Greetings from New Jersey. Currently researching 42 to 45 foot catamarans.
Hi there and welcome! Jeez we’ve come a long way since this video- thanks for taking us down memory lane with this comment! ❤️ Hope you enjoy and let us know if you have any questions.
@@HollyandRay I saw a few recent videos on your channel then I said I must start the journey from the beginning to get to know them better. I'll catch up soon. I promise.
Watching from Aotearoa, always exciting finding channels sailing over here, we keep an eye out for you all in Opua 🩵🌊
You guys have been on the move for so long. Enjoy staying put and slowing down
Rest and relaxation sure sounds good… ❤️
In the long run, you may be glad for the extra 6 months in paradise.
Exactly!
Such a great accomplishment. Congratulations. 🎉
Thank you! ❤️
Might want to move the water maker intake near the keel so that it stays underwater the whole time. I use an AC intake for it and it is directly above the keels. I can't tell from your solar diagram how your panels are laid out in terms of shade. I have 2 panels per side on the arch 540Watts each) and each pair is on a 85A MPPT and then 2 540Watt panels on the hard top that are on their on mppt at 30A each. I upgraded my batteries recently to 1200AH and with 3100W of solar manages to fill the batteries on a daily basis and even allows us to run the Air Conditioning off the solar panels (they don't even use the batteries during the day.
Where were you going to haul out in New Zealand?
Port Whangarei!
Really cool video.
Fascinating stuff!
I'm slowly catching up on all your posts, but I thought you lost your dingy, did you do one on getting it back?
Our friends lost theirs, not us! We helped them search but never found it, likely stolen:(
@@HollyandRay Good for you bad for them, thanks for the reply.
Should have showed us how you made that banana bread French toast . Love the video , thank you .
I didn't think anyone would find that interesting until I read these comments! Glad you enjoyed this one, Sandy. ❤️
I did guard duty for 1 month in the army doing 3 hours on, 3 off while stationed in egypt. The team started falling asleep in chow lines and at post. 3/3 isn't recommended.
We do 3 on 3 off the first few days then build up to 5 on 5 off- if we ever feel sleepy while on watch we wake the other person up no questions asked! Its a tough transition, but it works for us❤️
@@HollyandRay ooof. Y’all are rockstars, don’t think I could convince my wife to sign on for that
Haha! It definitely helps if you both have an equal love for sailing.
Just remember holly you would look a lot better than ray in a bikini
can you talk about the "hard on us" part?
We’ve opened up more about the stress of cruising here on our blog, but it’s very hard to capture on camera🥲
Thanks for the video! I would love to hear a lot of details about your reverting back to the old setup of your reefing lines (what changed and why reverting?). Perhaps also include that with some video in a future video.
Great idea- we will film it and explain when we run the lines how they were before! Thanks for the feedback. :)
Good video. 👍
Thank you! ❤️
Thank you.
Thanks for watching! ❤️
Just set sail for Motherland Africa.
Maybe one day! 🌍 where would you recommend we visit?
@@HollyandRay the rum run for Southern Africa is via the Pacific, Namibia is on the Southern West coast of Africa.
I love banana breadand I love French toast I've never heard of banana bread French toast thank you so much that looked so yummy I think you're a genius
It’s my favorite way to eat banana bread😍 We do the same with pumpkin bread!
Did you guys get the long stay visa? Would you recommend getting it? We are heading over in April. Where would you stay in FP if you were going to stay with a long stay visa?
@chadconnor356 We do have long stay visas. Although it is beautiful here, this is not our ideal cruising grounds. The weather patterns and anchoring laws are changing, and the locals are unhappy with the amount of boats here. If we could go back in time, we’d skip the long stay, stop briefly in the Marquesas, spend the bulk of our time in the Tuamotus, and stop briefly in the Societies on our way out. However, you might find it better to have the long stay and not use it than to feel rushed! We wrote a very detailed blog post on the visa application process if you’re interested, it’s on our blog under the category “other” :)
Oh Yeah! After watching Parlay in NZ I am looking forward to your adventures going and being there. Crazy you cant check out so easily in some of these places. I hope your passage is going smooth and safe. Also, Holly you should ask for a raise 😉
A raise?! I’m supposed to be getting paid for this?!?!😉
@@HollyandRay😆😁
What Lagoon Is That Im curious I Wanna Get Something Similar
2017 Lagoon 42 Owner’s version!
how much diesel fuel did you start out with ? how much did you consume on this trip ? VERY interesting !! I sailed my 10.8 meter sloop from San Diego, Ca. to Ft. Myers Fl. mostly alone. AN ADVENTURE !! Lived on board for 8 years.. SINGLE !!
We started with 200 gallons and used 90 gallons. Sounds like you had quite the adventure!!😍
I would think with a dyneema topping lift and enough mainsheet tension, provided your boom is aligned 180 degrees from the load of the spin halyard, you would be able to run any headsail you need.
I had open cpn on a new samsung android in oct 2024 for 10 minutes. It locked up numerous times and the menu layout is crude. I got a refund. This guy is spouting nonsense. The app is unreliable.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience! I’m not sure what to tell ya; we’ve loved it for quite a while now and know many others who do, too. We have no affiliation with OpenCPN, so we don’t have any reason to lie about it😂 We did spend more than 10mins learning how to use it though.
Mini marshmallows will help with moisture. Great for brown sugar and spices. Anything that gets hard
No way?! I haven’t heard of that one!
I've never heard that about bay leaves. Interesting
Hmmmm - watch out for us “Bareboat Charter Captains”. Parr 4 the Course leaves Croatia tomorrow and will be in Tahiti in 2 weeks!😂
We’d like to believe you’re more responsible than the average bareboat Cap😉 The main issue is that those boats don’t carry enough chain for the deep anchorages! Stay shallow or opt for a mooring ball, but you know that already!
@@HollyandRay YES! We’ve had lots of great sailing experience here in Croatia.
@@HollyandRay Yea we were just busting your chops😜🤪
Something I frequently wonder about is what do you sailors do about sunblock? Do you put it on every day in order to lessen skin cancer risks? I've definitely seen a lot of people who don't apply any at all and they look like 20 years older than they actually are after only a few years of constant sun exposure
Great question! We put sunblock on our face and neck everyday, but usually cover up the rest of our bodies with UPF clothing, hats, sunglasses etc. and stay in the shade as much as we can. Extra sunblock and long sleeve shirts when swimming.
You can really tell who uses it and who doesn't. I'm a dentist rather than a dermatologist but I get a close look at a whole lot of faces every year.
@billiondollardan I bet!
I'm very new to sailing. At present I only have a sailing dinghy though I'm planning on getting a pocket cabin cruiser. I've also been a Linux user for 3 years. You have no idea (or maybe you do) how happy it makes me to seeing Linux used this way. You're so awesome!
This comment made us smile!! Thank you❤️
So I am binge watching your channel, all the crewships - amazing shot. PS: You are living my dream life.
It was so crazy to see! I still think about that view. More recently we crossed the Panama Canal and there were TONS of container ships anchored out similar to those cruise ships🤯
