First, Thank You very much for this rug pattern. I’m about 1/3 of the way into my Loop Rug. I know we are going to love it! Here are some things I’ve learned work well for me:
1. To make the rug a different size, just measure out the desired length in your base yarn, adding a few extra loops. I wanted 30”, so that’s what I measured (46 loops, BTW), but as I work, I realize my finished length will be closer to 29-29.5”. That’s close enough for me.
2. I use a stitch marker in every 5th base loop. This helps me know within a few stitches if I’ve skipped any loops.
3. I find that (for me) it is easier & quicker to keep the backside of the rug up while I’m working. It is much easier to ensure I’ve not missed any loops in the working yarn.
4. I know no hooks or needles are necessary for this project or yarn. But I find it to be quicker & easier to insert a large-ish crochet hook (I’m using a K hook) into the space where the loop(s) need to be placed, just for ease of inserting those loops into the preceding loops.
5. Adding a new skein: The first time I just started the new skein in the next base loop and wove in the ends. The second (and subsequent) times, I tied the tail of the last to the new skein tail with a standard knot. Then either trim off or weave in those knot ends. If one doesn’t have a non-loop tail, I just snipped one side of the first or last loop to form a straight tail, tie them up and keep working.
I hope these suggestions will be helpful for someone.
Flo, thank you for all of those suggestions! These can be helpful for other viewers. I'm glad you are making the loopy bath rug. It's a fun project to make! We have a lot of other free loop yarn projects available here www.needlepointers.com/main/showarticles.aspx?navid=5706. Happy Stitching!
Thank you for the suggestion of how to add a new skein! I came to the comments specifically to see how to do that.
This was such a great tutorial - thank you! We’ve needed a custom size bath mat for a while and I loved the look and feel of this. I love how once you get the hang of it, it’s not that difficult! Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!
This looks so good, I'm going to try it.
Hope you enjoy
Holy hell I'm lost! Tears of frustration are plenty. Am this close to throwing yarn in trash. Deep breath. Find my happy place. In and out.
Carrie, I'm sorry you are frustrated with your loopy yarn. Have you made other things with loopy yarn? What is causing problems with this project? Maybe we can help.
This is so cool, Im going to try this❤❤
Thank you for your helpful tutorial, what if I only have one color to make the rug, will it be hard for me to make this kind of rug? Thank you & God bless❤
I think it will be hard to keep track of which loops are in the rug and which are used for weaving. This is why I suggest to use two colors. There are a LOT of loops! Happy Stitching!
I love this project however, my loops seem to maybe not stick up like this tutorial would you suggest maybe I need to pull it more to allow for the loops to stick up and out pretty like this tutorial?
As you are stitching, you will want to pull the loops up and as you get more and more, they will all just stick up. Happy Stitching!
Hi, I'm really happy with the way my rug is turning out especially since this is my first loop yarn project, thank you so much for sharing this! I would like to ask though if there is anything I can do to make the edges flatter. I'm thinking I'll try to see if I can add a simple edge but any advice would be much appreciated.
I'm not sure what you mean by making the edges flatter?
How did you add in the new skein of base yarn?
You start looping it in a few stitches before the end and just loop into the two loops instead of just the one. Hope this helps!
It wasn't too hard to follow this tutorial, i was using the same color for both sides, so i used 2 different color strings to put through the row so i could tell which one was the foundation riw and which is the top(double loop) row. Thank you for this tutorial
Ally, thank you for that suggestion! That is a great way to keep track of the loops!
What abt it sliding around say in bathroom? Or just use on carpet?
You could attach a non-slip backing onto the rug if you are worried about it slipping.
How many grams of each yarn did you use please?
Hi! It looks like the skeins I used were 200g each. See our written tutorial for more info www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=355
@@Needlepointers That’s really useful - thank you so much 😊
Hi there How do you know how many foundation stitches to do seeing as the rug or mat is 18 x 28?
Hi Mercia! We started with 25 foundation chain loops for our rug. Check our written instructions here www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=355 for all of the details.
I just laid out the length of base color loops that I wanted. I measured out 30”, but my rug is working up to 29-29.5” for me, so you might want to add a loop or two more than your measured dimension.
wow
How much yarn did it take to make the rug and what size is it please?
Domenica, thank you for your interest in our video. We have a full written tutorial which answers your questions: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=355.
Hi! Did this last?
Yes! My child is still using it in their bathroom.
How do you secure the end of the loop yarn when it is in the middle of the rug?
Christine, thank you for your interest in our video. With the loop yarn, just use all of the loops until the last loop. Be sure to overlap the first loop of the next yarn in the same stitch as the last loop of the previous yarn. If there is a yarn tail, you can trim it or weave it in. I have a tutorial here: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?UA-camPageID=274. Happy Looping!
I have a MUCH EASIER WAY TO DO THIS AND MAKE IT NON-SLIP.
Please share!
Please share a link... this video totally skipped how to start the base loops.
@@QueensMom1 Thanks for watching. The video starts with the base loops here: ua-cam.com/video/V8GBm_ywN9E/v-deo.html. There is also a written tutorial for this whole project, here: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=355.
I did not understand the second row. Even after watching multiple times and going to the tutorial. My never looked how it was supposed to.
Hi! This stitch can be a bit confusing. If you are not using two different colors of yarn, I recommend you do so. It's really hard to identify the loops vs base otherwise. We are making the stocking stitch with the base yarn, ua-cam.com/video/CHMsapSMmsE/v-deo.html. After putting the base yarn into the loop, you are passing it through the two loops of the 2nd color. This attaches the two loops so they won't fall out. We have a separate tutorial on the loopy stitch here: ua-cam.com/video/UtYxeUNAGVs/v-deo.html We also have a written photo tutorial of both. You can access them through links in the description. Happy Stitching!
