    Great, detailed how-to! I can attest to the peat-fly correlation. I had them occasionally (like fruit flies) when using peat and have none since switching to coconut coir.
    In addition to using a vinegar spritz after each use, I pour a bit of vinegar into the liquid tank after dumping. It helps to prevent the crystals from forming in the first place.
    I had a little giggle at the number of uses. It brought back the “wees and sticks” chart from the novel “Wifey” from… 30(?) years ago. 🤣

    We used one of these living full time on a boat. We found that putting about 1 inch of vinegar into the urine bottle after we emptied it and before using it again almost eliminated the smell. It also helped keep the salts from building up into the bottle.

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  4 роки тому +2

      Excellent info! Thanks Brian. We’ve noticed a slow and steady buildup of salts in the urine bottles. Simply using very hot water did the trick early on but not so effective now.

    Great content! I really appreciate you addressing the disposal of the used toilet paper. If you encounter problems with the smell consider a diaper genie for storing this material. Also consider plumbing the urine into your black/gray tank. Hope you've found a safe landing spot during this time.

    In 1966 me moved to the farm. No indoor plumbing except for a hand pump. We had a outhouse for the first two years.
    Once we got indoor plumbing the rule changed was the paper went into trash paper. If we were outdoors we used the outhouse. My mom didn’t want to fill the septic tank with paper. Simple.

    We have used the natures head for years now. We fondly refer to the urine container as the Lemonade Jug. A picture frame with toilet use instructions is hung on the wall behind ours. If you want a level up from the tp burrito, just use doggy bags. They are cheap, usually opaque and has enough room to tie a knot in the end.

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  4 роки тому

      The doggy poo bags are a great idea. Never thought of using those.

    • @skully7763
      @skully7763 4 роки тому +3

      But using doggy bags will just create more none bio-degradable waste. Most toilet paper is bio-degradable, so putting it in a small lidded bin where you sprinkle a small amount of the the coconut composting mix over the paper will keep any smell at bay and when you empty your toilet solids you tip that small bin contents in with the solids. No plastics involved. The small bin can be cleansed with vinegar once emptied.

(I am an amateur radio operator and may be the only one over the age of 60 who has not been to Quartzite for the "Hamcation Hamfest Hamakalooza" etc. When asked, I just say "I have too many radios and antennas now, why would I go "way out there" to avoid more of them?") • @tomrobinson2919
      @tomrobinson2919 4 роки тому +1

      We do not use the venting option which might be changed once we get into more humid areas. We use peat moss as a medium and have no odor issues, but it is important that the one gallon urinal bottle portion is which is slightly smaller than other brands that emptying it on a daily basis is a must. I have always been a setter and not a pointer keeping the toilet area much cleaner so the transition to the composting toilet was not an issue for meThe toilet area is directly adjacent to our sleeping area and at no time have we noticed any odors the transition for my wife to a composting toilet took a little practice but at the end of the day she is very happy with the fact that we can remain in one location without needing to find a black tank dumping station.We combined the unused black tank with our gray tank more than doubling our gray tank capacity. Like I said it is our best notification to our Aero Cruiser. PS Currently we are in the middle of the Sonoran desert enjoying the beautiful scenery and whether

    This has probably been suggested/asked before, but I'm wondering if equine pellets would work for the liquid side? It seems to work well as kitty litter alternative, plus biodegradable. It might help with any overflow and make it easier to transport -- less "sloshy". Just a thought. A big 40lb bag can be bought for $6.

    If you had a composting toilet and a wood burner, could you save up your toilet paper and use it in your wood burner? Obviously it would be gone in seconds, but it would get rid of it relatively easily. If so, maybe you could just put it in the wood burner until you next use it. It could get messy/smelly if you don't use the wood burner often.

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  4 роки тому

      Most RVers use a standard blank tank and flush the TP. Most of us who have composting toilets dispose of the TP in a separate bin, otherwise the toilet would fill up much more quickly requiring more frequent changing of the toilet.

    Note if you live in a trailer,rv,or camper van at a park urine needs to be separated. But if you live on own property I would let it mix together and dump at a compost pile to use for garden. Just note let it sit in compost pile for 1 full year before using as fertilizer. Urine turns into ammonia which is good for gardening and fertilizer but it needs to sit for 1 full year.

    While watching about tiny houses one lady puts earth worms in the solids tank and they break down the waste so by the time it needs to be emptied its just soil. They reproduce in there and so when she is dumping it outside she will just keep a few in there with some of the soil. Literally looked just like soil and by then it is broken up so much that she just throws it in an outside composting bin. We have cesspools and septic tanks where I live, so we never throw toilet paper into the toilet because we don’t want to worry about filling up our tanks. Pumping out a cesspool is very expensive and a hassle because they have to make a mess out of your lawn. We throw the toilet paper into a small, plastic bag lined, 4 gallon trash can (without a lid) next to our toilet...and we don’t make toilet paper burritos. It never ever smells at all. We empty that trash can about every other day. We have been doing this for over 30 years. It has never been a problem...and I am a neat freak germaphobe.

    I can't find one single video talking about having an upset tummy. Diarrhoea? What happens then. I want a composting toilet but I'm wondering what happens when it doesn't go in the bucket all in a tidy poop. Haha please help let me know what to expect 🙏

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  3 роки тому

      We do talk about those issues in our video. We recommend using a separate container if you need to vomit. Diarrhea is OK, but you will need to change the compost material much sooner as a result.
      Hope this helps.

    Read the instructions on your disinfectant wipes. I always thought a quick wipe did the trick. Nope
    Gotta keep the surface you want to disinfect wet with the disinfectant for several minutes.

    Thank you for the video. I got one in a sailboat I recently bought. What temperature works better in compost or emitting smell. Will it take too long to compost in low temp. I will use in the great lakes and the temp at 70 or below.

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  2 роки тому +1

      Hello! We find that temps below 50 or so seems to slow composting dramatically. Many people say that compost toilets don't compost. While this may be true that they don't completely compost waste, we can say that they do start the process. This is apparent as the waste is very warm nearly every time we change the toilet.

    I don’t have an RV (yet), although I’m interested in composting toilets. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t connect the urinecollection directly to the gray water tank (maybe a bigger size). Combined with biodegradable/natural soaps, etc. It would be safe(r) for nature when dumped since it’s all diluted.
    The solids bin system should be able to be changed like a cassette style bin. To me this compost toilet can be streamlined a lot for ease of use. Especially if you can make it a built in unit combined with a urinal for men who only want to pee standing up.

    Question: What is the difference in disposal of your system... and people that have to take care of cat or dog waste🤔 Answer: Nothing. I have an aunt that has a good saying that will apply to the negative people; “Let it go!” Good topic... and well done. Stay safe and God bless😇

    what do you do with your black tank if you don't have a flush toilet?

    • @LyfUninterrupted
      @LyfUninterrupted  4 роки тому +4

      Great question. I installed a combiner valve between the black & gray tanks. When the primary gray tank is full, I simply open the gray water valve, then the black water valve. This allows the gray water to flow into the old black tank which gives us about 100 gallons of gray water capacity. Check out this video to see how it's done:ua-cam.com/video/T1dXcBchbuQ/v-deo.html
