I was perusing a Discworld thread when someone brought up this short film. They provide a link, and I thought, "Why not, let's give it a look". None of the official Discworld adaptations have given me the same feeling as reading the books, until this.
The characters and the environment, the hilarious absurdity and heartfelt sincerity. That last part in particular. The core of Sir Pratchett's works is just honest heart, and you lot have captured that beautifully.

For me, Pratchetts greatest gift was how he used the Discworld to examine and satirise the human condition. So many adaptations of his work miss that but this one nailed it. The irony of this story is that Cohen is the one who through doing his job exceptionally well has made himself obsolete. He kept charging at the frontiers and thus moving the lines for civilisation until there was no longer any place it could be pushed.
This is an analogy of how the previous generation will make life easier for the next and get caught up in what they've lost rather than what they've created.

This was by far the best Terry Pratchett film I have ever seen ! Wonderfully touching, funny and layered perfectly....I want more ! We deserve more ! The visuals were perfect, the dialogue was stunning and the story was captivating. I must admit to being a little sad at the end, I miss Terry and his stories, we should have more of this to make up for the loss of the great man....well done to all involved in this production, you've done the man proud.

What Cohen did next lyrics, took me longer than I like to admit to write down from the end credits, but worth it.
I'll sing you a song of a hero so bold
    Exceedingly brave and remarkably old
    He rode from the bridge
    through the bleak winter cold
Just as the day was a-dawning
He wasn't the hero you've come to expect
    With rippling muscles
    and glistening pecks
    But the size of his
    boosebumps commanded respect
    And his false teeth
    should act as a warning
    His false teeth
    should act as a warning
    I'll tell you of Cohen
    for that was his name
A century in the barbarian game
    He went to fight trolls
    for fortune and fame
Just as the sun was arising
    His motives for battle
    were noble and pure
    He robbed from the rich
now to give to the poor
    Which included himself
    he was reasonably sure
    And that wasn't really surprising
    That wasn't really surprising
For barbarians lead an exorbitant life¨
    Carousing and quaffing
    and looking for strife
Can empty a coin pouch as quick as a knife
And the price as of a loincloth keeps rising
    With strange extra costs
that your old age can bring
    Lineaments trusses
    and that sort of thing
    And fitting your saddle
    with a hemorrhoid ring
To make your ride less agonizing
    Make your rides less agonizing
    As Cohen rode on
    through the arable land
    A small scrap of paper
    grasped firm in his hand
    It listed three targets
    so he had planned
Just as the cock was a-crowing
    It had already dawned
    on his valiant steed
    That Cohen whilst acting
    with barbaric speed
    Had forgotten that he
    didn't know how to read
    Barbarians don't have the knowing
    Barbarians don't have the knowing
So the horse who is brilliant
    it just must be said
    Could not only speak
    but occasionally read
    He took those directions
    rode where they led
Down where the river was winding
    A neat wooden bridge
    with a booth for control
Where a troll with a cap
and a badge and a bowl
    Unwisely asked Cohen
    to cough up a toll
    You could actually
    hear his teeth grinding
    Actually hear Cohen's teeth grinding
    It wasn't the cap that
    drove Cohen berserk
    Not even the troll's
    rather feculent smirk
    But the fluorescent waistcoat
    the troll wore to work
    And the "Safety First"
    badge he was wearing
    So Cohen went round to
    the back of the shed
    And opened the door with
    the front of his head
    At which point the troll
    has quite sensibly fled
Leaving his gold coins for sharing
Leaving his gold coins for sharing
    Then Cohen rode on by
    the swift river's course
    Astride his heroic and
    quite handsome horse
    He meant to get loot
    using maximum force
Just as the noon sun was gleaming
He came to a lumber mill shiny and new
    Where the forest was stumps
now and then just a few
    And a red stripey tent
    selling spider leg stew
    You could almost see
    Cohen's ears steaming
    Almost see Cohen's ears steaming
    The troll at the mill
    would not answer the door
    He had several guards
    and had hired many more
    To Cohen's delight they
    attacked by the score
Just as the door was a-closing
For Cohen had heroing down to a T
    He climbed on the pile
    of their bodies with glee
As the girl from the spider
    store clung to his knee
    He stood there barbarically posing
    Stood there barbarically posing
    The gold from the lumber
    mill safe in his grip
    He spent a few ticks
    relocating his hip
    And moaned that his back
    was now giving him gyp
Just as the mill it was burning
His ague and tinnitus started to buzz
    His lumbago had always
    disturbed him because
    He still had no clue
    what that actually was
    And his chilblains
    had started returning
    His chilblains had started returning
    The third troll a merchant
    who they weren't aware
    Was a combat accountant
    gave Cohen a scare
    By showing our hero
    his folio of shares
    And all his commodities falling
    But Cohen too stupid
    to grasp the essentials
    Gathered himself and
    with daring potential
    Kicked the troll squarely
    in his differentials
For a merchant that's truly appalling
For a merchant that's truly appalling
    Cohen rode onwards
    his bags full of gold
    Remarkably brave and exceedingly old
    He'd had quite enough
    of the bleak winter cold
And bits of himself that kept freezing
    So when the horse said
    he thought that we
    Should head for the coast
and the warmth and the sea
    Cohen just this time
    was forced to agree
    That horse was really amazing
    That horse was really amazing
    I've sung now of Cohen
    the greatest by far
So hark to my story wherever you are
    I learnt the whole thing
from a horse in a bar
Although he sang it quite badly
    It turns out the horse
    was a folk singer too
    He wrote the whole ballad
    and swears that it's true
So now I am here and I've sung it to you
And now you can all applaud madly
Now you can all applaud madly

When people say that disc world books are comedy fantasy books, it shows that they've only ever read the colour of magic. The disc world books are genera fiction, set in a fantasy world with a comedic tone (as no one in their right mind would describe nightwatch as a comedy), but the one theme which ties all the books (even the colour of magic) is "these changing times", and it's a theme I love so much. The original short story was great, a troll and a barbarian talking about how much things have changed, and lamenting the loss of the old days. Thus film was spot on, and it got me in the emotions. I think Terry would have loved this, and maybe would have asked why he didn't get a casting call to play Cohen :P brilliant work and I'm glad you shared it. :)

This is by far the most respectful and loving visualisation of a Discworld work I have ever seen. I'm only 11 minutes into it and I already want every single book to be given this treatment. I'm not a super-fan, but like most anybody who comes across his work, I find him to be the perfect blend of humor, wisdom, and rage. I don't know how they did it, but Snowgum Films somehow drew forth Sir Terry's spirit to create this version of Troll Bridge (I haven't read the original short story). Like the best works of art, the film draws you in with the promise of (another) hilarious and exciting adventure. The respect for the world Prachett gave us is amazing. The acting and pacing was superb too.
I'm going to echo the sentiment that these people should be given huge bags of treasure and tasked with creating an entire Series.

The nostalgia was perfect. The picturesque setting felt isolating, magical, and perfect. I felt sad watching this...left me teary, but with a sense of timelessness. The loss of the past.
Who would've thought...God bless Terry Pratchett. What a beautifully fitting adaption!! 💜

Holy hells I clicked this because the title got me: knowing this is Sir Pratchett's work just... idk I think I might cry. I really do weep knowing the Disc will never have his influence anymore. Rest In Power, Sir Pratchett.
They always take the good ones...

In the mid 90's Star Trek DS9 had an episode with Kor as an old man, he was from the original series from the 60's. I was in my teens and it altered my perspective on the trials of aging. Now in my 40's and having gone through 20 years of MS prematurely taking my youth away I see this and I feel it. Where have the Trolls and adventure gone? Perhaps I need to buy a horse, maybe a Mustang? Perhaps the fun of life is simply what we make of it, or maybe I just got tired of struggling to pee? Thank you for this, I needed it. Also Pratchett's work must've been an inspiration for that episode of DS9, there were a couple of lines that were at least near verbatim
