Used to be only this really. Use to watch tons of films back in the early days. But sadly now most are gone. Dinner for five was a good one, actors talking about industry eating, but got taken down and now impossible 2 find
Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf movie is cool, but it misses a lot of the point of the poem. Beowulf isn't really supposed to be a flawed hero, he's written as the saviour of a flawed world. The poem is a tragedy, and is written in the context of the poet longing for men such as Beowulf to make a return to the world and fix everything. This is still applicable today, as people throughout history have always thought they are living through the end times, and longed for the strength and character of the past. I think a Beowulf movie would work if it was told from the eyes of a young child, a citizen of Hrothgar's kingdom, who witnesses the rampages of Grendel, and the arrival of Beowulf. Imagine a young boy bravely, hopelessly standing between his baby sister and Grendel, mirroring what Beowulf would later do in the film. Imagine the boy older, a citizen under King Beowulf, living in happiness, having his moment of heroism in helping to defeat the dragon, or help people escape. Imagine the boy and the characters of the movie lamenting in dismay when Beowulf is dying, wondering whatever will they do now, and Beowulf telling them that they can be the heroes they are looking for if they just find their courage and stand together...
@@Philbert-s2c You kinda missed the point; in the film I imagined, Beowulf wouldn’t be the protagonist. He’d be the main focus point and catalyst for the plot, but the protagonist would be someone from Hrothgar’s kingdom
@Shadowman4710 a deeply flawed character that mirrors what's in vogue today is one of the reasons fantasy media is mediocre and boring nowadays. Compare the countless fantasy shows that have come out vs fantasy from the 80s and 90s culminating with LOTR. It's two different worlds, one really feels like an isekai drama that has ran its course (just look at s8 of got and rop) while the other is just timeless and deeper at a symbolic level.
In the poem, it's him who deals the final blow. Though the scene where Beowulf's shadow lengthens as the dragon kills him is amazing, my favorite bit of animation.

I will nitpick they left a few things from the original poem. 1) The lake where Grendel's Mother lived was full of all kinds of various monsters. 2) Grendel's Mother actually grabbed Beowulf and dragged him into her lair where she attempted to stab him. 3) One of Beowulf's men attempted to attack Grendel only to end up as monster chow. 4) Beowulf died due to a poisonous bite to the neck by Hordeshyrde (the dragon). Aside from that, this is a pretty faithful adaptation of the poem.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 I think the original commentator just got something confused. The poem doesn't give the dragon a name and "hordes hyrde" is just used to describe the dragon as "the treasure's guardian".
