Van Life ~ Chevy Express 2500 Kilmat Install

- I was on the fence as to whether or not I was going to buy some type of sound deadening for the interior of my van. One night I was checking out Facebook Marketplace when I stumbled across an ad for Kilmat. The guy said he bought too much for a project car he was working on. He was only asking $40 for two full boxes, and he only used 7 pieces from a third box! Since he was only 5 minutes away, I headed right out and bought them. My son wanted to help me and began the installation. I'm sure we put up way more than necessary, but what a big difference in the noise reduction. I only used one full box and the partial box & I still have one full box left! All of the walls, fender wells and roof are done!

My Econoline van was a conversion van and had 3 large windows. I wanted to do things on the cheap side so I installed 5mm Reflective Foam Thermal Insulation all the way around and I was told by a friend who used it in his cabin that rodents don't like the stuff so that's a plus. I think the wood interior is helping with the noise in my van but the noise wasn't a big deal to me. Have fun with your projects.
It was quite a bit noisy with the parts cabinets installed and even more so once I removed them. It's understandable with nothing in the back to absorb the sound. I installed the Kilmat only because I got that awesome deal but otherwise, I probably would've just used the insulation and wall covering. Several projects are out of the way - one step at a time! Well....lol....you probably saw my video that included Dirty John's hot dogs so - yes - it sounds like I'm very close to you!! That Kilmat purchase was being on the computer at the right time! I used what I did in my van - no doubt a bit overboard, then my son used some of it in his jeep and today I was able to get the plastic trim off two of my doors and ended up using another two pieces per door. Deals like that are hard to pass up. I had to look up what Kilmat is; think I'd use Astrofoil instead.
Honestly - I never heard of it until I watched some videos on van builds. I was on the fence because of the cost, but like you said - it was hard to pass up. The automotive industry uses it for sound deadening in luxury cars, I guess. But I can say it makes a large difference in noise reduction! Thanks for watching!
What does the killmat do?
Hi! It's basically a sound deadening material and works great stopping the "tinny" sound of metal. We over did it in my van - you don't need to apply as much. Thank you for watching!!
