Hope your channel grows. Not sure what most look for in vanlife videos. I watch for tips, hacks, interior builds, diy projects, product reviews for camping/vanlife, etc. I subscribed.
Welcome aboard and THANKS! I hope my channel grows as well and it's only through subscribers like yourself that make it happen. I think I've been here about a year now and I'm not a professional by any means at videography, editing, clickbait thumbnails lol. At first, I had just my Jeep JK, then I bought my van in May 2024. I knew right from the start that I wanted to do another van build since the last one was over 40 years ago! And the same goes for my van - I'm far from being any type of expert, but I do try with what I have for money and tools, and I love to repurpose things if I can. Thank you again for watching!
Looking great. Being I used cheap wood I used cedar chips in a bag and just laid them around the van for the cedar smell, 🤣🤣 I'm not sure you know this but be careful spraying that lower inside door channel, there should be built-in drain ports that are very small. If you open the doors and look at the bottom edge you should be able to see the openings they can be pen holes or look like slits. They are there so water can drain out of the panel and prevent moisture buildup. These also run all along the body paneling for drainage. Nothing should be airtight you want air to flow from one end of the van to the other like the attic of a house to stop mold from building up. If you take an air nozzle you should be able to blow air up into the panel this will also remove any sand or dirt that can build up and plug them. Take care.
Thanks Mike - I did take notice of the drain holes. The fluid film has worked great on everything that I've sprayed it on. It not only acts as a rust preventative but also a lubricant.
@@ADKOverlandNY I feel lucky, I know in the east rust is a problem but all of my vehicles have lived in the Southwest. My van is 24 years old with a 198K miles and has no rust but I know auto technicians who use torches to cut things off in the east due to the rust. I am sure my van will outlive me and then it can go to the junkyard.
I was fortunate that the original owner had enough foresight to undercoat & rustproof the van when he bought it. I'm sure mine will outlive me too! People complain about the amount of salt being used on the roads here, so now they're using "salt brine". They look like little lines of coke going down the road - little wet trails of salty water that dry white. I'm not convinced that's better lol.
Mike, I have is a quick question for you. There's a 4ga wire that runs from my starting battery to a fuse block under the driver's seat. My DC-to-DC charger needs to have a wire running from it to the battery. Can I run my wire from the charger and connect it right at that fuse block under the seat? I would be using a 50-amp circuit breaker in between.
@@ADKOverlandNY 4GA that far from the starter battery is not the best but a lot depends on the specs for your unit. I have seen them burn up over time being that far from the battery. It would be better to hook directly to the battery with your disconnect switch and resetable breaker. We normally installed two new copper cables that were two sizes larger than your 4GA and ran them along the frame, but a lot depends on the distance and load. The cable-end crimping tools can be expensive to make custom cables but do a nice job. I don't know if they would have it but I have heard that AutoZone loans tools or sells a cheap hammer press to install the new ends on the cables. I pressed and soldered the ends also adding heat shrink tubing. The positive cable must be carefully routed. A friend of mine installed a 2000-watt inverter in the bed of his truck with the right positive cable but went cheap and ran a short ground cable to the frame and his new inverter burst into flames. Good luck.
That looks so cozy with the blanket and mattress in there! And I love the tv haha, I was debating on putting one in mine or not but I also decided I’m going to at some point down the rosd
My tv lol - I was trying to get a 24" smart tv, but the freaking prices were out of sight, so I opted for a 32" smart tv. My son says even though that's a small tv, it looks like a big screen in my van. That buffalo plaid black & white blanket is actually an electric DC blanket. I watched a UA-cam video of a guy trying one out in sub-zero temps and he said it kept him pretty toasty. It's only about $26 on Amazon.
@@ADKOverlandNY yeah those blankets are great! And if you really want to go cold weather camping you throw it inside a sleeping bag, basically a human hot pocket haha
Jeff, I hate those wire clips used to hold the door panels down they have been using those for years and they’ve always been a pain in the patootie. You have to be really careful when you pull them out because the clips on the panels Brake and never go back in right then i they squeak. aside from that your project looks really good Jeff, doing a great job. It’s fun to watch. I like these longer videos.
Hi Mike - yeah, those little clips are nasty! I've only done two doors right now and trying to fit a little of everything else in. I finally found some halfway decent 2x2's at Home Depot today and snagged enough to get me started on some cabinetry. It's too bad the damn doors are curved and not flat. I think my own panels would've looked better and been more functional. You've seen where I post some of those video "shorts". I get less than 200 views on my longer videos, but those shorts videos will get 5,000 views! I do it to give everyone a little look at what's going on in the background.
@@ADKOverlandNY that’s quite a few views. It’s amazing for just just a little project, but I have to admit it’s really interesting and I can’t usually wait to see your next videos.
I mean, you just take your phone (it has to be in a vertical position), shoot a video less than 1 minute in length and upload it. Hundreds or thousands of views versus my longer videos that take me hours to shoot clips, edit & upload.
