Cool, don't get rid of them. I started with a 48k+, sold that to a mate at school and upgraded to the 128k+1 (heat sink model), got 2 of them still in perfect working order hence how i uploaded all these speccy games, i'll never get rid of them.
Really though, it was the first game I can remember to ever use that kind of combat mechanics. It was also mildly addictive. I used to get caught a four am trying to load it quietly even though the stupid loading screech would set off the dog, who would then go insane
I've got 2 sinclairs, ones a grey 128k plus 2 with the built in cassette Corder, and the others a black 48k zx spectrum, with a tape player that hooks in to the back of the Sinclair, and all in all a 160 games which work on both consoles. I love the speccy.
I remember seeing this game being played in a demo video behind the counter at Smiths, such a fantastic game, the 48k version (also on my channel) i found harder as you couldn't simply throw the bosses off the edge of the platforms on levels 1 & 2.
Is the missing throw (the music left aside) the only difference between the two versions? I recently played the 48k version and i found the difficulty definetly too hard, almost not enjoyable compared to other 8bit versions. Maybe it's just the missing moves?
Renegade with karate kicks, judo throws, and punching from full mount pioneering MMA, pre-UFC. I myself had a school fight and used the mount position from copying this game. Coincidentally it could've been around the same time as UFC 1 but I didn't know what it was until years later.
Why is it that the tape version I played as a kid and all the roms I've tried in recent years only run the title music and the music on the final level, every other level is silent. Is there some setting I'm missing? Great play through anyhoo.
+David Perkins That's VERY odd, if you have the 128k rom then it should play different music for every level,...unless you're using an emulator that isn't set properly?! Try the rom from the WOS spectrum site, that works perfectly for me. On another note, have you seen Renegade+ for the speccy?!,...take a look: ua-cam.com/video/FImRTgT3GTI/v-deo.html
Oh man, those new level graphics look great. Just tried the WOS Spectrum ROM and indeed, that works. I usually use Spectaculator on Android and that doesn't seem to play it... weird!
Agreed. Graphics may have improved but playability is piss poor now. Now you get no aim, no mission, just the ability to wander endlessly for no purpose.
I seem to be the only person on the planet who thinks Renegade on the Speccy is a load of fiddly frustrating shite. Maybe you had to have played it at the time and put the the effort in. I can't seem to beat the bloody bosses. Much prefer the excellent Target Renegade.
It's a marvel to play once you suss out the moves, if you think this is fiddly you should play the arcade, C64 and cpc versions,...horrible as you have 3 buttons!
That might be part of it. When you've spent a week's wages on it (paperboy), you're more inclined to knuckle down and fiddle with it. Nothing else to do that Saturday night etc. Coming back to the present, there was a trick to the moves. Stick to jumping kicks for wearing down the guys in earlier stages. You'll need to practice them for the motorbike stage anyway. If you want to use fancy moves, you either need to have your back to them and do a back kick, then either throw (128k only), or crotch drop them. See the end of level 2 on this vid. Don't try too many fancy moves when there's 2+ in reach, and if there's a boss about etc. Each level's boss has a different thing, and it's just practice learning it. Each boss just needs the health bar taken down via random kicks and punches, but the boss punches too, so no more than 1-2 then move. Once HP at zero, a crotch drop or throw, or series of punches and its over. Boss 1 likes to front kick and punch. Boss 2 likes a roundhouse kick. Boss 3 likes to just flatten you. Last boss...move move move. On the last levels, no fancy moves. Get on with taking each guy out, and keep moving. It can be a frustrating game if you want space and time to think. That's the point. Ironically, there's no throw option in 48k, so you're forced to learn the less fancy moves to do the work, and you're a better player for it. I can remember moving to 128k, and basically doing levels 1 & 2 in no time at all. :D
Nope it's perfection, all moves plus an extra one tied to just 1 button, the C64 & cpc versions are the shits when it comes down to the controls, having to use 3 keyboard buttons whilst using a joystick is a joke, ZX no doubt wins it.
@@ZEUSDAZ No, I'm not talking about the game, it's bad, I'm just saying that the people who made a game didn't look at this part of the gameplay, as a lot of times people will go flying and not get out.

This game was legendary lol
The loading screen was horrendous but the game was absolutely ten out of ten

Probably my first fighting type of game
Amazing upload 👏😄
Thank you, such a great game on the ZX.

Great game. Just found out today that that this is an arcade conversion!
And better than the arcade it's based on.

Well I'm glad it worked and I could help :-)
The music didn't work if you played on a spectrum +3 so if the emulator is pretending to be one of them that might explain it
YEAH I WON'T GET RID OF THEM, NO WAY HOSAY.
Kids got it so good these days
Ha, tell you summut, give me games like this any day over these new gen console stuff :-) soooooo much more playable and fun.

@@lgl2083What the fuck are you even talking about? For it’s day, this game was great and so was the sequel, now pipe down sonny, you’re boring.
6:49 That's some real mafia-style music there!
+Krizalid99v2
Yeah this version had some cool music that's for sure.
